Ezekiel 20
1 And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, that certain men of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, and they sat down before me.
Im siebten Jahre, am zehnten Tage des fünften Monats, kamen einige von den Ältesten Israels, um den HERRN zu befragen, und sie ließen sich vor mir nieder.
2 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Da erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:
3 Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Is it to inquire of me that ye are coming? as I live, I will not let myself be inquired of by you, saith the Lord Eternal.
»Menschensohn, sprich zu den Ältesten Israels und sage zu ihnen: ›So hat Gott der HERR gesprochen: Mich zu befragen seid ihr gekommen? So wahr ich lebe: ich lasse mich von euch nicht befragen!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN.
4 Wilt thou take them to task, wilt thou take them to task, son of man? then cause them to know the abominations of their fathers;
Willst du ihnen nicht vielmehr das Urteil sprechen? Willst du mit ihnen nicht ins Gericht gehen, Menschensohn? Halte ihnen die Greueltaten ihrer Väter vor!«
5 And say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, On the day when I made choice of Israel, I lifted up my hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and I made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt: and I lifted up my hand unto them, saying, I am the Lord your God.
»Sage zu ihnen: ›So hat Gott der HERR gesprochen: An dem Tage, als ich Israel erwählte, erhob ich meine Hand für die Angehörigen des Hauses Jakob zum Schwur und gab mich ihnen im Lande Ägypten zu erkennen; ich erhob meine Hand für sie zum Schwur und sprach: Ich bin der HERR, euer Gott!
6 On the same day I lifted up my hand unto them, to bring them forth from the land of Egypt into a land that I had selected for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is an ornament among all the countries.
An demselben Tage erhob ich meine Hand und schwur ihnen, daß ich sie aus dem Lande Ägypten in ein Land führen würde, das ich für sie ausersehen hätte, das von Milch und Honig überfließe und die Krone unter allen Ländern sei.
7 And I said unto them, Cast ye away every one of the abominations of his eyes, and on the idols of Egypt shall ye not defile yourselves: I am the Lord your God.
Dabei gebot ich ihnen: Ein jeder von euch werfe die Scheusale weg, auf die er bisher seine Augen gerichtet hat, und verunreinigt euch nicht an den ägyptischen Götzen! Ich, der HERR, bin euer Gott!
8 But they rebelled against me, and they would not hearken unto me; they did not cast away every one the abominations of their eyes, and the idols of Egypt did they not forsake: and I thought then to pour out my fury over them, to let out all my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
Aber sie waren widerspenstig gegen mich und wollten nicht auf mich hören; keiner von ihnen warf die Scheusale weg, auf die er bisher seine Augen gerichtet hatte, und die ägyptischen Götzen ließen sie nicht fahren. Da gedachte ich meinen Grimm über sie auszugießen, meinen ganzen Zorn mitten im Lande Ägypten an ihnen auszulassen;
9 But I acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, in the midst of whom they were; because I had made myself known unto them before their eyes, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt.
aber ich nahm Rücksicht auf meinen Namen, damit dieser nicht entehrt würde vor den Augen der Heidenvölker, unter denen sie wohnten und vor deren Augen ich mich ihnen geoffenbart hatte, um sie aus dem Lande Ägypten wegzuführen.‹«
10 I therefore caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
»›So führte ich sie denn aus dem Lande Ägypten weg und brachte sie in die Wüste.
11 And I gave them my statutes, and my ordinances made I known to them, which a man is to do, that he may live through them.
Da gab ich ihnen meine Satzungen und lehrte sie meine Gebote kennen, durch deren Beobachtung der Mensch das Leben hat.
12 And also my sabbaths gave I unto them, to be as a sign between me and between them, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctify them.
Auch meine Sabbate gab ich ihnen, die ein Zeichen (des Bundes) zwischen mir und ihnen sein sollten, damit sie zur Erkenntnis kämen, daß ich, der HERR, es bin, der sie heiligt.
13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; in my statutes they walked not, and my ordinances they despised, which a man is to do, that he may live through them; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned: and I then thought to pour out my fury over them in the wilderness, to make an end of them.
Aber das Haus Israel war auch in der Wüste widerspenstig gegen mich: sie wandelten nicht nach meinen Satzungen und mißachteten meine Gebote, durch deren Beobachtung doch der Mensch das Leben hat; auch meine Sabbate hielten sie durchaus nicht heilig. Da gedachte ich meinen Grimm in der Wüste über sie auszugießen, um sie ganz auszurotten;
14 But I acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them forth.
aber ich nahm Rücksicht auf meinen Namen, damit er nicht entehrt würde vor den Augen der Heidenvölker, vor deren Augen ich sie weggeführt hatte.
15 Yet did I also lift up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given [them], flowing with milk and honey, which is an ornament among all the countries.
Doch erhob ich meine Hand in der Wüste und schwur ihnen, daß ich sie nicht in das verheißene Land bringen würde, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließe und die Krone unter allen Ländern sei,
16 Because my ordinances they had despised, and in my statutes they had not walked, and my sabbaths they had profaned; for after their idols did their heart go.
weil sie meine Gebote mißachtet und nicht nach meinen Satzungen gewandelt und meine Sabbate entheiligt hätten; denn ihr Herz war immer nur hinter ihren Götzen her.
17 Nevertheless my eye looked pityingly on them, so as not to destroy them, and I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.
Dennoch blickte mein Auge mitleidsvoll auf sie, so daß ich sie nicht vernichtete und sie in der Wüste nicht völlig ausrottete.‹«
18 And I said unto their children in the wilderness, In the statutes of your fathers shall ye not walk, and their ordinances shall ye not keep, and on their idols shall ye not defile yourselves.
»›Da gebot ich ihren Söhnen in der Wüste: Wandelt nicht nach den Gewohnheiten eurer Väter und beobachtet nicht die von ihnen geübten Bräuche und verunreinigt euch nicht an ihren Götzen!
19 I am the Lord your God: in my statutes must ye walk, and my ordinances must ye keep, and do them;
Ich, der HERR, bin euer Gott: wandelt nach meinen Satzungen, beobachtet meine Gebote und handelt nach ihnen!
20 And my sabbaths must ye sanctify; and they shall be as a sign between me and between you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God.
Haltet auch meine Sabbate heilig, damit sie ein Zeichen (des Bundes) zwischen mir und euch seien und damit man erkenne, daß ich der HERR, euer Gott, bin.
21 Nevertheless the children rebelled against me; in my statutes did they not walk, and my ordinances they kept not to do them, which a man is to do, that he may live through them; my sabbaths they profaned: and I then thought to pour out my fury over them, to let out all my anger against them in the wilderness.
Aber auch die Söhne waren widerspenstig gegen mich: sie wandelten nicht nach meinen Satzungen und befolgten meine Gebote nicht, daß sie nach ihnen gehandelt hätten, obgleich doch der Mensch durch ihre Beobachtung das Leben hat; auch meine Sabbate entheiligten sie. Da gedachte ich meinen Grimm über sie auszugießen und meinen Zorn in der Wüste an ihnen völlig auszuwirken;
22 But I withdrew my hand, and acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them forth.
aber ich zog meine Hand wieder zurück und nahm Rücksicht auf meinen Namen, damit er nicht entehrt würde vor den Augen der Heidenvölker, vor deren Augen ich sie ausgeführt hatte.
23 I also lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse them through the countries;
Doch erhob ich meine Hand in der Wüste und schwur ihnen, daß ich sie unter die Heidenvölker zerstreuen und sie in die Länder versprengen würde,
24 Because my ordinances they had not executed, and my statutes they had despised, and my sabbaths they had profaned, and after the idols of their fathers their eyes were directed.
weil sie nicht nach meinen Geboten lebten, meine Satzungen mißachteten, meine Sabbate nicht heilig hielten und weil ihre Augen auf die Götzen ihrer Väter gerichtet seien.
25 And I also let them follow statutes that were not good, and ordinances whereby they could not live;
So gab denn auch ich ihnen Satzungen, die nicht zum Guten waren, und Gebote, durch die sie nicht das Leben haben konnten;
26 And I let them be defiled through their gifts, in that they caused to pass [through the fire] all that openeth the womb, in order that I might destroy them, to the end that they might know that I am the Lord.
ich machte sie durch ihre Opfergaben unrein, dadurch daß sie jegliche Erstgeburt als Opfer verbrannten: ich wollte ihnen eben Entsetzen einflößen, damit sie erkennen möchten, daß ich der HERR bin.‹«
27 Therefore, speak unto the house of Israel, O son of man, and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Yet in this too did your fathers blaspheme me, by their committing a trespass against me:
»Darum, Menschensohn, rede zum Hause Israel und sage zu ihnen: ›So hat Gott der HERR gesprochen: Auch noch dadurch haben eure Väter mich beschimpft, daß sie mir die Treue gebrochen haben.
28 When I had brought them into the land, for which I had lifted up my hand to give it to them, they saw every high hill, and all the thick-branched trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and presented there their provoking offerings, and they brought there their sweet savor, and poured out there their drink-offerings.
Nachdem ich sie nämlich in das Land gebracht hatte, dessen Verleihung ich ihnen zugeschworen hatte, da schlachteten sie, wo immer sie einen hohen Hügel und einen dichtbelaubten Baum erblickt hatten, daselbst ihre Opfertiere, brachten dort ihre Gaben zu meiner Kränkung dar, ließen daselbst ihre lieblichen Weihrauchdüfte aufsteigen und gossen dort ihre Trankopfer aus.
29 Then said I unto them, What is this high-place whereunto ye go? And its name was called “The height” until this day.
[Da fragte ich sie: Was ist das für eine Höhe, auf die ihr euch da begebt? Daher ist der Name ›Höhe‹ geblieben bis auf den heutigen Tag.]‹«
30 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Ha! do you pollute yourselves after the manner of your fathers; and after their abominations do ye go astray?
»Darum sage zum Hause Israel: ›So hat Gott der HERR gesprochen: Wie? Nach der Weise eurer Väter wollt auch ihr euch verunreinigen und mit ihren Scheusalen ebenfalls Buhlerei treiben?
31 And when ye offer up your gifts, when ye make your sons pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even until this day: and I should allow myself to be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord Eternal, I will not let myself be inquired of by you.
Ja, dadurch, daß ihr eure Gaben darbringt, daß ihr eure Kinder als Opfer verbrennt, verunreinigt ihr euch an all euren Götzen bis auf den heutigen Tag; und da sollte ich mich von euch befragen lassen, Haus Israel? So wahr ich lebe!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN –: ›ich will mich von euch nicht befragen lassen!‹«
32 And that which cometh up into your mind shall not at all come to pass, [namely, ] that ye say, We will be like the nations, like the families of the [other] countries, to serve wood and stone.
»›Und das, was euch in den Sinn gekommen ist, darf nimmermehr zur Ausführung gelangen, daß ihr sagt: Wir wollen es machen wie die Heiden, wie die Völker in den anderen Ländern, indem wir Holz und Stein anbeten!
33 As I live, saith the Lord Eternal, surely, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:
So wahr ich lebe!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN –: ›Mit starker Hand und hocherhobenem Arm und so, daß ich meinem Ingrimm freien Lauf lasse, will ich mich als König über euch erweisen!
34 And I will bring you out from the people, and I will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with [my] fury poured out.
Ich will euch aus den Heidenvölkern herausführen und euch aus den Ländern sammeln, in die ihr zerstreut worden seid, mit starker Hand und hocherhobenem Arm und so, daß ich meinem Ingrimm freien Lauf lasse,
35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and I will hold judgment over you there, face to face.
und will euch in die Wüste inmitten der Völker bringen und dort ins Gericht mit euch gehen von Angesicht zu Angesicht!
36 As I held judgment over your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I hold judgment over you, saith the Lord Eternal.
Wie ich einst in der Wüste des Landes Ägypten mit euren Vätern ins Gericht gegangen bin, ebenso will ich auch über euch Gericht halten!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN.
37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;
›Da will ich euch unter meinem Stabe an mir vorübergehen lassen und euch zur Erfüllung der Bundespflichten zwingen,
38 And I will separate from you those that have rebelled, and those that have transgressed against me: out of the country where they sojourn will I cause them to go forth, but into the land of Israel shall not one [of them] enter; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
und ich will die Ungehorsamen und die von mir Abgefallenen aus euch aussondern: aus dem Lande, in dem sie als Fremdlinge gelebt haben, will ich sie herausführen; aber auf Israels Boden soll keiner von ihnen zurückkehren, damit ihr erkennt, daß ich der HERR bin!‹«
39 As for you, O house of Israel, thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter [also], if ye will not hearken unto me; but my holy name do not profane any more with your gifts, and with your idols.
»Was euch aber betrifft, ihr vom Hause Israel, so hat Gott der HERR folgendermaßen gesprochen: ›Geht nur hin und dient ein jeder seinen Götzen! Später aber werdet ihr sicherlich auf mich hören und meinen heiligen Namen nicht länger durch eure Opfergaben und durch eure Götzen entweihen,
40 For on my holy mountain, on the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord Eternal, there shall serve me all the house of Israel, altogether, in the land: there will I accept them in favor, and there will I require your heave-offerings, and the first-fruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
sondern auf meinem heiligen Berge, auf Israels Bergeshöhe‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN –, ›dort wird mir das ganze Haus Israel dienen, alle, die sich im Lande befinden; dort will ich euch gnädig annehmen und dort eure Hebeopfer und eure Erstlingsgaben mir darbringen lassen, alles, was ihr an Weihegaben opfert.
41 With your sweet savor will I accept you in favor, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered: and I will be sanctified through you before the eyes of the nations.
Beim lieblichen Opferduft will ich euch gnädig annehmen, wenn ich euch aus den Heidenvölkern herausführe und euch aus den Ländern sammle, in die ihr zerstreut worden seid, und ich will mich an euch vor den Augen der Heidenvölker als den Heiligen erweisen.
42 And ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for which I have lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers.
Da werdet ihr dann erkennen, daß ich der HERR bin, wenn ich euch in das Land Israel zurückführe, in das Land, dessen Verleihung ich euren Vätern einst durch einen Schwur zugesagt habe.
43 And ye shall remember there your ways, and all your doings, whereby ye have been defiled; and ye shall loathe yourselves, because of all your evil deeds that ye have committed.
Dort werdet ihr dann an euren Wandel und all eure Taten zurückdenken, durch die ihr euch verunreinigt habt, und werdet einen Abscheu vor euch selbst empfinden wegen all des Bösen, das ihr begangen habt.
44 And ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for the sake of my name, not in accordance with your wicked ways, and in accordance with your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord Eternal.
Dann werdet ihr auch erkennen, daß ich der HERR bin, wenn ich so mit euch verfahre um meines Namens willen und nicht nach eurem bösen Wandel und nach euren verwerflichen Taten, Haus Israel!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN.«
45 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Weiter erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:
46 Son of man, set thy face in the direction toward the south, and preach toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the field in the south.
»Menschensohn, richte deine Blicke nach Süden zu, predige gegen Mittag hin und weissage gegen den Wald, der im Gefilde des Südlandes liegt,
47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the Lord, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour in thee every green tree, and every dry tree: the glowing flame shall not be quenched, and there shall be burnt therein all faces from the south to the north.
und sprich zu dem Walde im Südland: ›Höre das Wort des HERRN! So hat Gott der HERR gesprochen: Siehe, ich will ein Feuer in dir anzünden, das soll alle saftreichen und alle dürren Bäume in dir verzehren; die lodernde Flamme soll nicht erlöschen, und alle Gesichter vom Südland bis zum Norden sollen durch sie versengt werden!
48 And all flesh shall see that I the Lord have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.
Dann wird alles Fleisch einsehen, daß ich, der HERR, sie angezündet habe, indem sie nicht erlischt.‹«
49 Then said I, Ah Lord Eternal! they say of me, Behold, he speaketh but in parables!
Da entgegnete ich: »Ach, HERR, mein Gott! Die Leute sagen von mir: ›Trägt der nicht immer Rätselreden vor?‹«
