Ezekiel 17
1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
La palabra de Yahvé vino a mí, diciendo:
2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and propound a parable unto the house of Israel;
“Hijo de hombre, cuenta una adivinanza y di una parábola a la casa de Israel;
3 And say, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, The great eagle with large wings, long winged, full of feathers, who is rich in many colors, came unto the Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:
y di: “El Señor Yahvé dice: “Una gran águila de grandes alas y largas plumas, llena de plumas de diversos colores, llegó al Líbano y tomó la copa del cedro.
4 The topmost of its young twigs did he crop off, and carry it into the traders' land; and he set it in a city of merchants.
Cortó la parte superior de sus ramitas jóvenes y lo llevó a una tierra de tráfico. Lo plantó en una ciudad de mercaderes.
5 And he took some of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field: he placed it by great waters, he transplanted it among the willow-trees.
“‘“También tomó una parte de la semilla de la tierra y la plantó en tierra fructífera. La colocó junto a muchas aguas. La puso como un sauce.
6 And it grew, and became a trailing vine of low stature, the tendrils of which should turn toward him, and the roots of which should be under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and sent out shoots.
Creció y se convirtió en una vid extendida de baja estatura, cuyas ramas se volvieron hacia él, y sus raíces estaban debajo de él. Así se convirtió en una vid, produjo ramas y echó ramitas.
7 There was also another great eagle with large wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend its roots famishing toward him, and shot forth its tendrils toward him, that he might water it, from the beds where it was planted;
“‘“Había también otra gran águila con grandes alas y muchas plumas. He aquí que esta vid inclinaba sus raíces hacia él, y echaba sus ramas hacia él, desde la tierra donde estaba plantada, para que él la regara.
8 [Although] it was planted in a good field by great waters, that it might produce boughs, and that it might bear fruit, that it might become an elegant vine.
Estaba plantada en buena tierra, junto a muchas aguas, para que produjera ramas y diera fruto, para que fuera una buena vid”.
9 Say now, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Shall it prosper? Behold the other will pull up its roots, and its fruit will he cut away, that it may dry up; every one of its growing leaves shall dry up; and not with great power and numerous people [will he have to come] to tear it away from its roots.
“Di: El Señor Yahvé dice: “¿Prosperará? ¿No arrancará sus raíces y cortará sus frutos, para que se marchite, para que se marchiten todas sus hojas frescas que brotan? No puede ser levantada de sus raíces por un brazo fuerte ni por mucha gente.
10 Yea, behold, although it is planted, shall it prosper? Lo, as soon as the east wind toucheth it, shall it be utterly dried up: in the beds where it groweth shall it dry up.
Sí, he aquí, estando plantada, ¿prosperará? ¿No se marchitará del todo cuando la toque el viento del este? Se marchitará en la tierra donde creció”.
11 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Y vino a mí la palabra de Yahvé, diciendo:
12 Do now say to the rebellious family, Know ye not what these things mean? Say, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took away its king and its princes, and he brought them unto himself to Babylon;
“Di ahora a la casa rebelde: ‘¿No sabéis lo que significan estas cosas? Diles: ‘He aquí que el rey de Babilonia vino a Jerusalén, y tomó a su rey y a sus príncipes, y se los llevó a Babilonia.
13 And he took one of the royal seed, and made a covenant with him, and bound him with an oath; but the mighty of the land did he take away;
Tomó a uno de los descendientes reales, e hizo un pacto con él. También lo sometió a un juramento, y le quitó a los poderosos del país,
14 That the kingdom should be debased, so as not to lift itself up; that it should keep his covenant that it might continue to exist.
para que el reino fuera abatido, para que no se levantara, sino que cumpliendo su pacto se mantuviera en pie.
15 But he rebelled against him by sending his messengers into Egypt, that they might give him horses and numerous people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doth such things? yea, he hath broken the covenant, and shall he escape?
Pero se rebeló contra él enviando a sus embajadores a Egipto, para que le dieran caballos y mucha gente. ¿Prosperará? ¿Escapará el que hace tales cosas? ¿Romperá el pacto y aún así escapará?
16 As I live, saith the Lord Eternal, surely in the residence of the king that hath made him king, whose oath he hath despised, and whose covenant he hath broken, even near him in the midst of Babylon shall he die.
“‘Vivo yo’, dice el Señor Yahvé, ‘ciertamente en el lugar donde habita el rey que lo hizo rey, cuyo juramento despreció y cuya alianza rompió, incluso con él en medio de Babilonia morirá.
17 And not with a mighty army and a large assembly shall Pharaoh labor for him in the war, when [the other] casteth up mounds, and buildeth works of attack, to cut off many souls.
El faraón, con su poderoso ejército y su gran compañía, no lo ayudará en la guerra, cuando levante montículos y construya fortalezas para cortar a muchas personas.
18 Yea, he that hath despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, shall not escape.
Porque ha despreciado el juramento rompiendo el pacto; y he aquí que había dado su mano, y sin embargo ha hecho todas estas cosas. No escapará.
19 Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, As I live, surely my oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, —even this will I bring upon his own head.
“Por eso dice el Señor Yahvé: ‘Vivo yo, que haré recaer sobre su propia cabeza mi juramento que ha despreciado y mi pacto que ha roto.
20 And I will spread my net over him, and he shall be caught in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will hold judgment with him there for his trespass which he hath committed against me.
Extenderé mi red sobre él, y será atrapado en mi trampa. Lo llevaré a Babilonia, y allí entraré en juicio con él por la transgresión que ha cometido contra mí.
21 And all his fugitives with all the wings of his army shall fall by the sword, and those that remain shall be dispersed toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the Lord have spoken it.
Todos sus fugitivos en todas sus bandas caerán a espada, y los que queden serán dispersados a todo viento. Entonces sabrás que yo, Yahvé, lo he dicho’.
22 Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, But I myself will take [a part] of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will preserve it; from the topmost of its young twigs will I crop off a tender one, and I myself will plant it firmly upon a high and eminent mountain:
“El Señor Yahvé dice: ‘También tomaré una parte de la cima del cedro y la plantaré. De la parte superior de sus ramas jóvenes cortaré una tierna, y la plantaré en un monte alto y elevado.
23 On the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it firmly; and it shall produce boughs, and bear fruit, and become an elegant cedar; and there shall dwell under it all fowls, every thing that hath wing; in the shadow of its light branches shall they dwell.
Lo plantaré en el monte de la altura de Israel, y producirá ramas, dará fruto y será un buen cedro. A la sombra de sus ramas habitarán aves de toda clase.
24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have made low the high tree, have made high the lowly tree, that I have dried up the green tree, and have caused to flourish the dry tree: I the Lord have spoken and have done it.
Todos los árboles del campo sabrán que yo, Yahvé, he derribado el árbol alto, he exaltado el árbol bajo, he secado el árbol verde y he hecho florecer el árbol seco. “‘Yo, Yahvé, he hablado y lo he hecho’”.
