Exodus 7
1 And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh; and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Vois, je te fais Dieu pour Pharaon, et Aaron, ton frère, sera ton prophète.
2 Thou shalt speak all that I shall command thee; and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send away the children of Israel out of his land.
Tu diras tout ce que je te prescris, et Aaron, ton frère, le redira à Pharaon, afin qu'il laisse sortir de son pays les enfants d'Israël.
3 And I will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and I will multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
Et moi, j'endurcirai le cœur de Pharaon et je multiplierai mes signes et mes miracles dans le pays d'Egypte.
4 And Pharaoh will not hearken unto you, and I will lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth my armies, my people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by means of great judgments.
Et Pharaon ne vous écoutera pas; et je mettrai la main sur l'Egypte, et je ferai par de grands jugements sortir du pays d'Egypte ma milice, mon peuple, les enfants d'Israël.
5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch forth my hand over Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from the midst of them.
Et les Égyptiens sentiront que je suis l'Éternel, lorsque j'étendrai ma main sur l'Egypte et que je tirerai du milieu d'eux les enfants d'Israël.
6 And Moses and Aaron did so; as the Lord commanded them, so did they.
Et Moïse et Aaron firent ainsi que l'Éternel le leur ordonnait; ainsi firent-ils.
7 And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty and three years old, when they spoke unto Pharaoh.
Or Moïse était âgé de quatre-vingts ans, et Aaron de quatre-vingt-trois ans, lorsqu'ils s'adressèrent à Pharaon.
8 And the Lord said unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron en ces termes:
9 If Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Show a miracle for yourselves: then shalt thou say unto Aaron, Take thy staff and cast it down before Pharaoh; it shall become a serpent.
Si Pharaon vous parle et vous dit: Opérez un miracle, dis à Aaron: Prends ton bâton et le jette devant Pharaon; qu'il devienne serpent!
10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so, as the Lord had commanded; and Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
Et Moïse et Aaron étant venus chez Pharaon firent ce que l'Éternel avait ordonné; et Aaron jeta son bâton devant Pharaon et devant ses serviteurs, et il devint serpent.
11 Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers; and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did with their secret arts in like manner.
Et Pharaon de son côté manda les sages et les enchanteurs, et eux aussi, les hiérogrammates de l'Egypte, en firent autant par leurs charmes.
12 And they cast down every man his staff, and they became serpents; but Aaron's staff swallowed up their staves.
Et ils jetèrent chacun son bâton, et les bâtons devinrent des serpents; mais le bâton d'Aaron engloutit les leurs.
13 But the heart of Pharaoh was hard, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had spoken.
Et le cœur de Pharaon s'endurcit, et il ne les écouta point, ainsi que l'avait annoncé l'Éternel.
14 And the Lord said unto Moses, The heart of Pharaoh is obdurate, he refuseth to let the people go.
Alors l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Le cœur de Pharaon s'obstine, il refuse de laisser partir le peuple.
15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt place thyself opposite to him by the brink of the river; and the staff which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thy hand.
Va trouver Pharaon le matin; voici, il ira à la rivière, et présente-toi à sa rencontre sur le bord du Nil; et prends en ta main le bâton qui a été changé en serpent,
16 And thou shalt say unto him, The Eternal, the God of the Hebrews, hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, thou wouldst not hear, up to this time.
et dis-lui: L'Éternel, Dieu des Hébreux, m'a envoyé auprès de toi pour te dire: Laisse partir mon peuple pour me servir dans le désert; mais voici, jusqu'à présent tu n'as point écouté.
17 Thus hath said the Lord, By this thou shalt know that I am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the staff that is in my hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: A ceci tu connaîtras que je suis ]'Éternel: voici, du bâton qui est dans ma main, je vais frapper les eaux du Nil et elles seront changées en sang;
18 And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall loath to drink water from the river.
et les poissons qui sont dans le Nil périront; et le Nil sera fétide, et les Égyptiens auront peine à boire l'eau du Nil.
19 And the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy staff, and stretch out thy hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, and over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, also in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Dis à Aaron: Prends ton bâton et étends ta main sur les eaux de l'Egypte, sur ses courants, sur ses canaux et sur ses lacs et sur tous ses amas d'eaux; et qu'elles deviennent du sang; et il y aura du sang dans tout le pays d'Egypte, dans le bois et dans la pierre.
20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord had commanded; and he lifted up [his hand] with the staff, and smote the waters that were in the river, before the eyes of Pharaoh, and before the eyes of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
Et Moïse et Aaron exécutèrent ce que leur commandait l'Éternel; et il leva son bâton et frappa les eaux du Nil sous les yeux de Pharaon et sous les yeux de ses serviteurs, et toute l'eau du fleuve fut changée en sang.
21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink water from the river; and the blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.
Et les poissons du Nil périrent, et le Nil devint fétide, et les Égyptiens ne pouvaient plus boire l'eau du Nil, et il y eut du sang dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their secret arts: and the heart of Pharaoh remained hardened, and he did not hearken unto them; as the Lord had spoken.
Mais les hiérogrammates d'Egypte en firent autant par leurs charmes; et le cœur de Pharaon s'endurcit, et il ne les écouta point, ainsi que l'Éternel l'avait annoncé.
23 And Pharaoh turned away and went into his house, and he did not set his heart to this thing also.
Et Pharaon se tourna et rentra dans sa demeure et cela même ne le fit point réfléchir.
24 And all the Egyptians dug in the neighborhood of the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
Et tous les Égyptiens creusaient aux alentours du fleuve pour trouver de l'eau à boire; car ils ne pouvaient boire, l'eau du Nil.
25 And full seven days elapsed, after that the Lord had smitten the river.
Et sept jours s'écoulèrent après que l'Éternel eut frappé le fleuve.
