Exodus 22
1 If a man steal an ox or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it: five oxen shall he restore for one ox, and four sheep for one sheep.
Si un homme vole un veau ou une brebis, et qu'il l'égorge ou le vende, il rendra cinq veaux pour le veau, et quatre brebis pour la brebis.
2 If a thief be found while breaking in, and be smitten so that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.
Si le voleur a été trouvé perçant le mur, et que blessé, il meure; il n'y a point de meurtre à son sujet.
3 If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; he shall make full restitution; if he have nothing, then shall he be sold for his theft.
Si le soleil était levé, celui qui a frappé le voleur est coupable qu'on le mette à mort; si le voleur n'a rien, qu'on le vende pour prix de l'objet volé.
4 If the thing stolen be actually found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep, he shall restore double.
Si la bête volée vit encore et est trouvée dans ses mains, depuis l'âne jusqu'à la brebis, il en rendra le double.
5 If a man cause a field or vineyard to be eaten off, and he let his beasts enter, and they feed in another man's field; with the best of his own field, and with best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.
Si quelqu'un cause du dommage dans un champ ou une vigne, et s'il laisse son bétail paître dans le champ d'autrui, il indemnisera de son propre champ, selon ses produits. Si tout le champ d'autrui a été dévoré, il indemnisera du meilleur de son champ et du meilleur de sa vigne.
6 If a fire break out, and meet with thorns, so that stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed thereby, he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
Si un feu rencontrant des épines gagne de proche en proche et brûle des meules ou des épis, ou la récolte d'un champ, celui qui aura allumé le feu paiera la perte.
7 If a man do deliver unto his neighbor money or vessels to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house: if the thief be found, he shall pay double.
Si un homme donne à son voisin de l'argent ou un objet à garder, et que le dépôt soit volé en la maison du dépositaire, si le voleur est découvert il rendra le double;
8 If the thief be not found, then shall the master of the house be brought unto the judges, [to swear] that he have not stretched out his hand against his neighbor's goods.
Mais si le voleur n'est pas trouvé, le dépositaire ira devant Dieu et jurera qu'il n'a point agi méchamment au sujet du dépôt,
9 For all manner of trespass, for ox, for ass, for lamb, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, of which he can say, This is it, before the judges shall come the cause of both parties, and he, whom the judges may condemn, shall pay double unto his neighbor.
Ni du délit déclaré; que l'on ait pris veau, ou âne, ou brebis, ou vêtement, ou quoi que ce soit, un jugement sera rendu devant Dieu entre le plaignant et le dépositaire, et celui qui sera découvert par le Seigneur restituera le double.
10 If a man deliver unto his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a lamb, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:
Si un homme donne à garder à son voisin âne ou veau, brebis ou autre bête, et que la bête soit malade ou morte, ou prise de vive force par l'ennemi sans que personne le sache,
11 Then shall an oath of the Lord be between them both, that he have not stretched out his hand against his neighbor's goods; and the owner of it shall accept this, and he shall not make it good.
Il y aura, entre les deux hommes, serment devant Dieu; le dépositaire jurera qu'il n'a pas agi méchamment au sujet du dépôt; le voisin ainsi l'agréera, et il n'y aura point d'indemnité.
12 But if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.
Mais si la bête a été dérobée chez lui, il indemnisera le maître de la bête.
13 If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it as evidence; that which was torn he shall not make good.
Si elle a été prise par une bête fauve, il le conduira sur ses traces, et ne devra rien.
14 And if a man borrow aught of his neighbor, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof not being with it, he shall surely make it good.
Si un homme a emprunté à son voisin une bête qui tombe malade, qui meure on qui soit prise de vive force par l'ennemi, et cela en l'absence du maître, il paiera l'indemnité.
15 But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good; if it be a hired thing, the loss is included in its hire.
Mais si le maître était avec la bête, l'emprunteur ne paiera rien; si c'était un homme à gages, il perdra son salaire.
16 And if a man seduce a virgin that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.
Si un homme trompe une vierge qui n'est point encore fiancée, et s'il dort avec elle, il lui donnera une dot et l'épousera;
17 If her father refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.
Mais s'il s'y refuse ou si le père de la vierge ne veut pas qu'il l'ait pour femme, il lui donnera autant d'argent qu'on en donne pour doter les vierges.
18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Vous ne souffrirez point les magiciens.
19 Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.
Celui qui se sera accouplé à une bête, punissez-le de mort.
20 He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the Lord only, shall be utterly destroyed.
Celui qui sacrifiera à des dieux autres que le Seigneur sera exterminé.
21 And a stranger thou shalt not vex, and shalt not oppress him; for strangers ye were in the land of Egypt.
Vous ne maltraiterez pas l'étranger et vous ne l'opprimerez point; car vous étiez étranger en la terre d'Égypte.
22 Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.
Vous ne maltraiterez jamais la veuve ni l'orphelin.
23 If thou afflict him in any wise; [for if he cry at all unto me, I will surely hear his cry: ]
Si vous les maltraitez, s'ils crient vers moi, j'entendrai leurs cris;
24 My wrath shall wax hot, and I will slay you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
Et je serai courroucé en mon Cœur, et je vous ferai périr par l'épée; vos femmes deviendront veuves, et vos enfants orphelins.
25 If thou lend money to my people, to the poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as a lender of money; thou shalt not lay upon him usury.
Si chez toi tu prêtes de l'argent à ton frère pauvre tu ne le presseras pas, et tu ne lui demanderas point d'intérêt.
26 If thou take at all thy neighbor's raiment in pledge, thou shalt restore it unto him by the time the sun goeth down;
Si tu as pris en nantissement le manteau de ton voisin, tu le lui rendras avant le coucher du soleil.
27 For it is his only covering, it is his raiment for his skin; wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.
Car c'est son vêtement unique, l'unique voile de sa nudité: avec quoi dormirait-il? Si donc il crie vers moi, je l'écouterai, parce que je suis miséricordieux.
28 The judges thou shalt not revile; and a ruler among thy people thou shalt not curse.
Tu ne maudiras point les dieux, tu n'injurieras point le prince de ton peuple.
29 The first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors, shalt thou not delay to offer; the first-born of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.
Tu ne différeras point l'offrande des prémices de tes aires et de tes pressoirs; tu me donneras les premiers-nés de tes fils.
30 In like manner shalt thou do with thy ox, with thy sheep; seven days it shall be with its dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.
Tu me donneras aussi le premier-né de ta génisse, de ta brebis, de ton ânesse; tu le laisseras sept jours sous sa mère; le huitième jour tu me le donneras.
31 And holy men shall ye be unto me: and flesh that is torn of beasts in the field, shall ye not eat; to the dogs shall ye cast it.
Vous serez des hommes saints devant moi, et vous ne mangerez point de chair enlevée par les bêtes fauves; vous la jetterez aux chiens.
