Exodus 17
1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeyings, by the order of the Lord; and they encamped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.
Så brød hele Israels Menighed op fra Sins Ørken og drog fra Lejrplads til Lejrplads efter HERRENs Bud. Men da de lejrede sig i Refidim, havde Folket intet Vand at drikke.
2 And the people quarrelled with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink; and Moses said unto them, Why will ye quarrel with me? why will ye tempt the Lord?
Da kivedes Folket med Moses og sagde: "Skaf os Vand at drikke!" Men Moses svarede dem: "Hvorfor kives I med mig, hvorfor frister I HERREN?"
3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, For what purpose is it that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill me and my children and my cattle with thirst?
Og Folket tørstede der efter Vand og knurrede mod Moses og sagde: "Hvorfor har du ført os op fra Ægypten? Mon for at lade os og vore Børn og vore Hjorde dø af Tørst?"
4 And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? but little is wanting and they will stone me.
Da råbte Moses til HERREN: "Hvad skal jeg gøre med dette Folk? Det er ikke langt fra, at de vil stene mig."
5 And the Lord said unto Moses, Pass on before the people, and take with thee some of the elders of Israel; and thy staff, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thy hand, and go.
Men HERREN sagde til Moses: "Træd frem for Folket med nogle af Israels Ældste og tag den Stav, du slog Nilen med, i din Hånd og kom så!
6 Behold, I will be standing before thee there upon the rock at Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come out from it water, and the people shall drink; and Moses did so before the eyes of the elders of Israel.
Se, jeg vil stå foran dig der på Klippen ved Horeb, og når du slår på Klippen, skal der strømme Vand ud af den, så Folket kan få noget at drikke." Det gjorde Moses så i Påsyn af Israels Ældste.
7 And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah; because of the quarrelling of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is then the Lord among us, or not?
Og han kaldte dette Sted Massa og Meriba, fordi Israeliterne der havde kivedes og fristet HERREN ved at sige: "Er HERREN iblandt os eller ej?"
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
Derefter kom Amalekiterne og angreb Israel i Refdim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.
Da sagde Moses til Josua: "Udvælg dig Mænd og ryk i. Morgen ud til Kamp mod Amalekiterne; jeg vil stille mig på Toppen af Højen med Guds Stav i Hånden!"
10 And Joshua did as Moses had said to him, to fight with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Chur went up to the top of the hill.
Josua gjorde, som Moses bød, og rykkede ud til Kamp mod Amalekiterne. Men Moses, Aron og Hur gik op på Toppen af Højen.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, that Amalek prevailed.
Når nu Moses løftede Hænderne i Vejret, fik Israeliterne Overtaget, men når han lod Hænderne synke, fik Amalekiterne Overtaget.
12 But when the hands of Moses became heavy, they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Chur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Og da Moses's Hænder blev trætte, tog de en Sten og lagde under ham; så satte han sig på den, og Aron og Hur støttede hans Hænder, hver på sin Side; således var hans Hænder stadig løftede til Solen gik ned,
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
og Josua huggede Amalekiterne og deres Krigsfolk ned med Sværdet.
14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in the book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua; for I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens.
Da sagde HERREN til Moses: "Optegn dette i en Bog, for at det kan mindes, og indskærp Josua, at jeg fuldstændig vil udslette Amalekiternes Minde under Himmelen!"
15 And Moses built an altar, and called its name Adonay Nissy [[The Lord is my Banner]].
Derpå byggede Moses et Alter og kaldte det: "HERREN er mit Banner!"
16 And he said, Because the Lord hath sworn on his throne, that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
Og han sagde: "Der er en udrakt Hånd på HERRENs Trone! HERREN har Krig med Amalek fra Slægt til Slægt!"
