Esther 7
1 And the king came with Haman to drink with Esther the queen.
Le roi et Aman allèrent au festin d’Esther.
2 And the king said unto Esther also on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even if it be equal to half the kingdom, it shall still be done.
Ce second jour, le roi dit encore à Esther, lorsqu’on fut au festin du vin: « Quelle est ta demande, reine Esther? Elle te sera accordée. Quel est ton désir? Quand ce serait la moitié du royaume, tu l’obtiendras. »
3 Then answered Esther the queen and said, If I have found grace in thy eyes, O king! and if it be pleasing unto the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request;
La reine Esther répondit: « Si j’ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, ô roi, et si le roi le trouve bon, accorde-moi la vie: voilà ma demande; accorde-la à mon peuple: voilà mon désir.
4 For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain and to be exterminated; and if we had been only sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I would have remained silent; for the adversary regardeth not the damage of the king.
Car nous sommes vendus, moi et mon peuple, pour être détruits, égorgés, anéantis. Encore si nous étions vendus pour devenir esclaves et servantes, je me tairais; mais maintenant, l’oppresseur ne peut compenser le dommage fait au roi. »
5 Then spoke king Achashverosh and said unto Esther the queen, Who is this, and where is he, whose heart hath emboldened him to do so?
Le roi Assuérus prenant la parole, dit à la reine Esther: « Qui est-il et où est-il celui que son cœur pousse à agir ainsi? »
6 And Esther said, An adversary, and inimical man, this wicked Haman. Then became Haman terrified before the king and the queen.
Esther répondit: « L’oppresseur, l’ennemi, c’est Aman, ce méchant! « Aman fut saisi d’effroi en présence du roi et de la reine.
7 And the king arose in his fury from the banquet of wine, and went into the palace-garden: and Haman remained behind to make request for his life of Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil fully determined.
Le roi, dans sa colère, se leva et quitta le festin du vin pour aller dans le jardin du palais; et Aman resta pour demander grâce de la vie à la reine Esther, car il voyait bien que, du côté du roi, sa perte était assurée.
8 And when the king returned out of the palace-garden into the apartment of the banquet of wine, Haman was fallen upon the couch whereon Esther was: then said the king. Will he even do violence to the queen before me in the house? The word had just come out of the king's mouth, when they covered Haman's face.
Lorsque le roi revint du jardin du palais dans la salle du festin du vin, il vit Aman qui s’était prosterné sur le lit sur lequel était Esther; et le roi dit: « Quoi! ferait-il violence à la reine chez moi, dans le palais? « Cette parole était à peine sortie de la bouche du roi qu’on voilà le visage d’Aman.
9 Then said Charbonah, one of the chamberlains, before the king, Behold, there is also the gallows, which Haman hath had made for Mordecai, who hath spoken well for the king, standing in the house of Haman, fifty cubits high. And the king said, Hang him thereon.
Harbona, l’un des eunuques, dit devant le roi: « Voici que le bois préparé par Aman pour Mardochée, qui a parlé pour le bien du roi, est dressé dans la maison d’Aman, à une hauteur de cinquante coudées. « Le roi dit: « Qu’on y pendre Aman! »
10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows which he had prepared for Mordecai, and the fury of the king was appeased.
Et l’on pendit Aman au bois qu’il avait préparé pour Mardochée. Et la colère du roi s’apaisa.
