Ecclesiastes 1
1 The words of Koheleth, the son of David, the king in Jerusalem.
Mao kini ang mga pulong sa Magtutudlo, ang kaliwat ni David ug hari sa Jerusalem.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith Koheleth, vanity of vanities: all is vanity.
Miingon ang Magtutudlo niini. “Sama sa aso, sama sa huyuhoy sa hangin, mahanaw ang tanan, ug nagbilin ug daghang pangutana.
3 What profit hath a man of all his toil which he toil-eth under the sun?
Unsa man ang makuha sa mga tawo gikan sa tanang buhat nga ilang gihagoan ilalom sa adlaw?
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh; but the earth endureth for ever.
Ang usa ka kaliwatan mahanaw, ug moabot ang laing kaliwatan, apan ang kalibotan magpabilin hangtod sa kahangtoran.
5 The sun also riseth, and the sun goeth down, and striving to reach his place he riseth again there.
Mosubang ang adlaw, ug mosalop kini ug modalig balik ngadto sa dapit nga subangan niini pag-usab.
6 Going toward the south, and turning round toward the north, the wind moveth round about continually; and around its circles doth the wind return again.
Mohuyop ang hangin ngadto sa habagatan ug molibot sa amihanan, kanunay lamang nagalibot sa agianan niini ug mobalik pag-usab.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is never full: unto the place whither the rivers go, thither will they continue to go.
Ang tanang kasapaan nagaagas padulong sa dagat, apan wala gayod napuno ang dagat. Ngadto sa dapit diin nagaagas ang mga sapa, mobalik kini pag-usab.
8 All things weary themselves [constantly]; man can not utter them: the eye is never satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
Ang tanang butang makaluya, ug walay makapasabot niini. Dili matagbaw ang mata sa makita niini, bisan paman ang dalunggan dili matagbaw sa madungog niini.
9 That which hath been, is the same which will be; and that which hath been done, is the same which will be done; and there is nothing new under the sun.
Ang bisan unsa nga nahitabo kaniadto mao gayod ang mahitabo, ug ang bisan unsa nga nabuhat mao gayod ang buhaton.
10 If there be any thing whereof it is said, See, this is new: It hath already been in olden times which were before us.
Walay bag-o ilalom sa adlaw. Aduna bay butang diin mahimong maingnan, 'Tan-awa, bag-o kini'? Ang bisan unsa nga naglungtad milungtad na sa dugay nga panahon, sa kapanahonan nga dugay nang miabot una kanato.
11 [Only] there is no recollection of former [generations]; and also of the later ones, that are to be—of these [likewise] there will be no recollection with those that will be still later.
Wala nay bisan usa nga nahinumdom sa mga butang nga nahitabo kaniadto. Ug sa mga butang nga nahitabo sa nangagi ug ang mahitabo sa umaabot dili na usab mahinumdoman.”
12 I Koheleth was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
Ako ang Magtutudlo, ug nahimo akong hari sa Israel diha sa Jerusalem.
13 And I directed my heart to inquire and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under the heavens: this is an evil employment which God hath given to the sons of man to busy themselves therewith.
Gigamit ko ang akong hunahuna sa pagtuon ug sa pagpangita pinaagi sa kaalam sa tanang butang nga nahimo ilalom sa langit. Ang pagpangita usa ka makahasol nga buhat nga gihatag sa Dios sa kaanakan sa katawhan aron pagabuhaton.
14 I saw all the deeds that are done under the sun: and, behold, all is vanity and a torture of the spirit.
Nakita ko ang tanang mga buhat nga nahimo ilalom sa adlaw, ug tan-awa, kining tanan sama lamang sa aso ug usa ka sulay sa pagbantay sa hangin.
15 What is crooked cannot be made straight; and that which is defective cannot be numbered.
Ang baliko dili na matul-id! Ang nawala dili na maihap!
16 I spoke with my own heart, saying, Lo, I have truly obtained greater and more wisdom than all those who have been before me over Jerusalem: yea, my heart had seen much wisdom and knowledge.
Nakigsulti ako sa akong kasingkasing nga nag-ingon, “Tan-awa, nakaangkon ako ug dakong kaalam kaysa tanan nga nag-una kanako sa Jerusalem. Nakita sa akong hunahuna ang dakong kaalam ug kahibalo.”
17 And I directed my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly; [but] I have perceived that this also is a torture of the spirit.
Busa gigamit ko ang akong kasingkasing sa pagsayod sa kaalam ug sa pagkabuangbuang ug pagkawalay pulos. Nasabtan nako nga kini usa ka sulay sa pagbantay sa hangin.
18 For where there is much wisdom there is much vexation: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth pain.
Kay diha sa kadagaya sa kaalam anaa ang tumang suliran, ug siya nga nagadaghan ang kahibalo nagadaghan ang kasub-anan.
