Deuteronomy 9
1 Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass this day over the Jordan, to go in to drive out nations greater and mightier than thou, [to conquer] cities great and fortified up to heaven,
Άκουε, Ισραήλ· συ διαβαίνεις σήμερον τον Ιορδάνην, διά να εισέλθης να κληρονομήσης έθνη μεγαλήτερα και ισχυρότερά σου, πόλεις μεγάλας και τετειχισμένας έως του ουρανού,
2 A people great and tall, the children of the 'Anakim, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of 'Anak!
λαόν μέγαν και υψηλόν το ανάστημα, υιούς των Ανακείμ, τους οποίους γνωρίζεις και ήκουσας, Τις δύναται να σταθή έμπροσθεν των υιών του Ανάκ;
3 Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God it is who goeth over before thee, he is a consuming fire; he will destroy them, and he will subdue them before thy face; and thou wilt drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the Lord hath spoken unto thee.
Γνώρισον λοιπόν σήμερον, ότι Κύριος ο Θεός σου είναι ο προπορευόμενος έμπροσθέν σου· είναι πυρ καταναλίσκον· αυτός θέλει εξολοθρεύσει αυτούς και αυτός θέλει καταστρέψει αυτούς απ' έμπροσθέν σου· και θέλεις εκδιώξει αυτούς και ταχέως εξολοθρεύσει αυτούς, καθώς σοι είπεν ο Κύριος.
4 Thou must not say in thy heart, when the Lord thy God doth cast them out from before thee, as followeth, For my righteousness hath the Lord brought me in to possess this land; and that for the wickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee.
Αφού Κύριος ο Θεός σου εκδιώξη αυτούς απ' έμπροσθέν σου, μη είπης εν τη καρδία σου λέγων, Διά την δικαιοσύνην μου με εισήγαγεν ο Κύριος να κληρονομήσω την γην ταύτην· αλλά διά την ασέβειαν των εθνών τούτων εκδιώκει αυτούς ο Κύριος απ' έμπροσθέν σου.
5 Not for thy righteousness, nor for the uprightness of thy heart, dost thou go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations doth the Lord thy God drive them out from before thee, and in order that he may fulfill the word which the Lord hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Ουχί διά την δικαιοσύνην σου ουδέ διά την ευθύτητα της καρδίας σου εισέρχεσαι να κληρονομήσης την γην αυτών· αλλά διά την ασέβειαν των εθνών τούτων Κύριος ο Θεός σου εκδιώκει αυτά απ' έμπροσθέν σου, και διά να στερεώση τον λόγον, τον οποίον ο Κύριος ώμοσε προς τους πατέρας σου, προς τον Αβραάμ, προς τον Ισαάκ και προς τον Ιακώβ.
6 And thou shalt know, that not for thy righteousness doth the Lord thy God give unto thee this good land to possess it; for thou art a stiff-necked people.
Γνώρισον λοιπόν, ότι Κύριος ο Θεός σου δεν σοι δίδει την γην ταύτην την αγαθήν να κληρονομήσης αυτήν διά την δικαιοσύνην σου· διότι είσαι λαός σκληροτράχηλος.
7 Remember, do not forget, how thou didst provoke the Lord thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou wentest out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, have ye been rebellious against the Lord.
Ενθυμού, μη λησμονήσης πόσον παρώργισας Κύριον τον Θεόν σου εν τη ερήμω αφ' ης ημέρας εξήλθετε εκ γης Αιγύπτου, εωσού εφθάσατε εις τον τόπον τούτον, πάντοτε εστασιάσατε κατά του Κυρίου.
8 Also at Horeb ye provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord was angry with you to destroy you.
Και εν Χωρήβ παρωργίσατε τον Κύριον και εθυμώθη ο Κύριος εναντίον σας διά να σας εξολοθρεύση,
9 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, the tables of the covenant which the Lord had made with you, and I abode on the mount forty days and forty nights, bread did I not eat, and water did I not drink.
ότε ανέβην εις το όρος διά να λάβω τας πλάκας τας λιθίνας, τας πλάκας της διαθήκης την οποίαν ο Κύριος έκαμε προς εσάς. Τότε έμεινα εν τω όρει τεσσαράκοντα ημέρας και τεσσαράκοντα νύκτας· άρτον δεν έφαγον και ύδωρ δεν έπιον·
10 And the Lord gave unto me the two tables of stone inscribed by the finger of God; and on them [was written] according to all the words, which the Lord had spoken with you on the mount out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.
και έδωκεν εις εμέ ο Κύριος τας δύο λιθίνας πλάκας, γεγραμμένας διά του δακτύλου του Θεού· και επ' αυτάς ήσαν γεγραμμένοι πάντες οι λόγοι, τους οποίους ελάλησεν ο Κύριος προς εσάς επί του όρους εκ μέσου του πυρός εν τη ημέρα της συνάξεως.
11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave unto me the two tables of stone, the tables of the covenant.
Και εις το τέλος των τεσσαράκοντα ημερών και τεσσαράκοντα νύκτων έδωκεν εις εμέ ο Κύριος τας δύο λιθίνας πλάκας, τας πλάκας της διαθήκης.
12 And the Lord said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from here; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have become corrupted; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I have commanded them; they have made themselves a molten image.
Και είπε Κύριος προς εμέ, Σηκώθητι, κατάβα ταχέως εντεύθεν· διότι ο λαός σου, τον οποίον εξήγαγες εξ Αιγύπτου, ηνόμησεν· ταχέως εξέκλιναν από της οδού, την οποίαν προσέταξα εις αυτούς· έκαμον εις εαυτούς είδωλον χυτόν.
13 And the Lord said unto me, thus, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people:
Είπεν ότι ο Κύριος προς εμέ, λέγων, Είδον τον λαόν τούτον και ιδού, είναι λαός σκληροτράχηλος·
14 Let me alone, and I will destroy them, and blot out their name from under the heavens; and I will make of thee a nation mightier and more numerous than they.
άφες με να εξολοθρεύσω αυτούς και να εξαλείψω το όνομα αυτών υποκάτωθεν του ουρανού· και θέλω σε κάμει εις έθνος δυνατώτερον και μεγαλήτερον παρά τούτους.
15 And I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount was burning with fire; and the two tables of the covenant were upon my two hands.
Και επέστρεψα και κατέβην από του όρους, και το όρος εκαίετο με πυρ, και αι δύο πλάκες της διαθήκης ήσαν εις τας δύο χείρας μου.
16 And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the Lord your God, ye had made yourselves a molten calf; ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the Lord had commanded you.
Και είδον και ιδού, είχετε αμαρτήσει εναντίον Κυρίου του Θεού σας, κάμνοντες εις εαυτούς μόσχον χυτόν· είχετε εκκλίνει ταχέως εκ της οδού, την οποίαν προσέταξεν εις εσάς ο Κύριος·
17 And I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and I broke them before your eyes.
και πιάσας τας δύο πλάκας, έρριψα αυτάς από των δύο χειρών μου και συνέτριψα αυτάς έμπροσθεν των οφθαλμών σας·
18 And I threw myself down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; bread did I not eat, and water did I not drink; on account of all your sins which ye had committed, in doing what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
και προσέπεσον ενώπιον του Κυρίου, καθώς πρότερον, τεσσαράκοντα ημέρας και τεσσαράκοντα νύκτας· άρτον δεν έφαγον και ύδωρ δεν έπιον εξ αιτίας πασών των αμαρτιών σας, τας οποίας ημαρτήσατε, πράττοντες πονηρά ενώπιον του Κυρίου, ώστε να παροργίσητε αυτόν·
19 For I was afraid of the anger and the indignation, wherewith the Lord was wroth against you to destroy you; but the Lord hearkened unto me also at that time.
διότι κατεφοβήθην διά τον θυμόν και την οργήν, με την οποίαν ο Κύριος ήτο θυμωμένος εναντίον σας διά να σας εξολοθρεύση. Αλλ' ο Κύριος εισήκουσέ μου και ταύτην την φοράν.
20 And with Aaron was the Lord very angry to destroy him; and I prayed also for Aaron at the same time.
Και ήτο ο Κύριος θυμωμένος σφόδρα κατά του Ααρών, διά να εξολοθρεύση αυτόν· και εδεήθην και υπέρ του Ααρών εν τω καιρώ εκείνω.
21 And your work of sin, which ye had made, the calf, I took and burnt it in fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descendeth from the mount.
Και έλαβον την αμαρτίαν σας, τον μόσχον τον οποίον εκάμετε, και κατέκαυσα αυτόν εν πυρί και συνέτριψα αυτόν και κατελέπτυνα αυτόν εωσού έγεινε λεπτόν ως σκόνη· και έρριψα την σκόνην τούτου εις τον χείμαρρον τον καταβαίνοντα από του όρους.
22 And at Taberah, and at Massah and at Kibroth-hattaavah, have ye been provoking the Lord to wrath.
Και εν Ταβερά και εν Μασσά και εν Κιβρώθ-αττααβά παρωργίσατε τον Κύριον.
23 And when the Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea', saying, Go up and take possession of the land which I have given you: then rebelled ye against the order of the Lord your God, and ye believed not in him, and ye hearkened not to his voice.
Και ότε ο Κύριος σας απέστειλεν από Κάδης-βαρνή, λέγων, Ανάβητε και κληρονομήσατε την γην, την οποίαν έδωκα εις εσάς, τότε σεις εστασιάσατε εναντίον της προσταγής Κυρίου του Θεού σας, και δεν επιστεύσατε εις αυτόν ουδέ εισηκούσατε της φωνής αυτού.
24 Rebellious have ye been against the Lord, from the day that I have known you.
Πάντοτε εστασιάσατε εναντίον του Κυρίου, αφ' ης ημέρας σας εγνώρισα.
25 And I threw myself down before the Lord those forty days and forty nights, which I threw myself down; because the Lord had said that he would destroy you.
Και προσέπεσον ενώπιον του Κυρίου τεσσαράκοντα ημέρας και τεσσαράκοντα νύκτας, καθώς προσέπεσον πρότερον· διότι ο Κύριος είπε να σας εξολοθρεύση.
26 And I prayed unto the Lord, and said, O Lord Eternal, destroy not thy people and thy heritage, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
Και εδεήθην του Κυρίου λέγων, Κύριε Θεέ, μη εξολοθρεύσης τον λαόν σου και την κληρονομίαν σου, τον οποίον ελύτρωσας διά της μεγαλωσύνης σου, τον οποίον εξήγαγες εξ Αιγύπτου εν χειρί κραταιά·
27 Think of thy servants, of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob; turn not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to its wickedness, nor to its sin:
ενθυμήθητι τους δούλους σου, τον Αβραάμ, τον Ισαάκ και τον Ιακώβ· μη επιβλέψης εις την σκληρότητα του λαού τούτου, μήτε εις τας ασεβείας αυτών, μήτε εις τας αμαρτίας αυτών·
28 Lest [the inhabitants of] the land whence thou hast brought us out say, Out of want of ability in the Lord to bring them into the land which he had promised them, and out of his hatred to them, hath he brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
μήπως είπωσιν οι κάτοικοι της γης, εκ της οποίας εξήγαγες ημάς, Επειδή ο Κύριος δεν ηδύνατο να εισαγάγη αυτούς εις την γην, την οποίαν υπεσχέθη προς αυτούς, και επειδή εμίσει αυτούς, εξήγαγεν αυτούς διά να φονεύση αυτούς εν τη ερήμω·
29 Whereas they are thy people and thy heritage, whom thou hast brought out by thy mighty power and by thy outstretched arm.
αλλ' ούτοι είναι λαός σου και κληρονομία σου, τους οποίους εξήγαγες με την δύναμίν σου την μεγάλην και με τον βραχίονά σου τον εξηπλωμένον.
