Deuteronomy 5
1 And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and that ye may observe to do them.
Entonces Moisés convocó a todo Israel y les dijo: ¡Escucha, Israel, los Estatutos y Ordenanzas que yo proclamo hoy a sus oídos para que los aprendan y los practiquen!
2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
Yavé nuestro ʼElohim hizo un Pacto con nosotros en Horeb.
3 Not with our fathers did the Lord make this covenant, but with us, we who are here all of us alive this day.
No fue con nuestros antepasados con quienes Yavé hizo este Pacto, sino con nosotros, los que hoy estamos aquí, todos vivos.
4 Face to face did the Lord speak with you on the mount, out of the midst of the fire,
Cara a cara Yavé habló con ustedes en la Montaña, desde en medio del fuego.
5 (I was standing between the Lord and between you at that time, to announce to you the word of the Lord; for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and ye went not up into the mount; ) saying,
Yo mediaba en aquel tiempo entre ustedes y Yavé para ponerles delante la Palabra de Yavé, porque temieron a causa del fuego y no subieron a la montaña. Y [Él] dijo:
6 I am the Lord thy God, who have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
Yo soy Yavé tu ʼElohim, Quien te sacó de tierra de Egipto, de la casa de esclavitud.
7 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
No tendrás otros ʼelohim delante de Mí.
8 Thou shalt not make unto thyself any graven image, any likeness of any thing that is in the heavens above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
No te harás imagen ni alguna semejanza de lo que esté arriba en el cielo, o abajo en la tierra o en las aguas debajo de la tierra.
9 Thou shalt not bow thyself down unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me,
No te postrarás ante ellas ni les servirás, porque Yo soy Yavé tu ʼElohim, ʼElohim celoso, que visito la iniquidad de los padres sobre los hijos hasta la tercera y la cuarta [generación] de los que me aborrecen,
10 And showing kindness unto the thousandth generation of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
pero hago misericordia con millares de los que me aman y guardan mis Mandamientos.
11 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
No tomarás el Nombre de Yavé tu ʼElohim en vano, porque Yavé no tendrá como inocente al que tome su Nombre en vano.
12 Keep the sabbath-day to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.
Guardarás el día sábado para santificarlo, tal como Yavé tu ʼElohim te ordenó.
13 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work;
Seis días trabajarás y harás toda tu obra,
14 But the seventh day is the sabbath in honor of the Lord thy God; on it thou shalt not do any work, neither thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy ox, nor thy ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: in order that thy man-servant and thy maid-servant may rest as well as thou.
pero el séptimo es sábado consagrado a Yavé tu ʼElohim. No harás ninguna labor, ni tú, ni tu hijo, ni tu hija, ni tu esclavo, ni tu esclava, ni tu buey, ni tu asno, ni ningún otro animal tuyo, ni el extranjero que habita en tus ciudades para que puedan descansar tu esclavo y tu esclava, así como tú.
15 And thou shalt remember that thou hast been a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore hath the Lord thy God commanded thee to observe the sabbath-day.
Pues recuerda que fuiste esclavo en tierra de Egipto, y que Yavé tu ʼElohim te sacó de allá con mano fuerte y brazo extendido, por lo cual Yavé tu ʼElohim te manda guardar el día sábado.
16 Honor thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee: in order that thy days may be prolonged, and in order that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, como Yavé tu ʼElohim te ordenó, para que se prolonguen tus días y te vaya bien en la tierra que Yavé tu ʼElohim te da.
17 Thou shalt not kill.
No asesinarás.
18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
No adulterarás.
19 Neither shalt thou steal.
No robarás.
20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.
No dirás falso testimonio contra tu prójimo.
21 Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbor's wife. Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbor's house, nor his field, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.
No codiciarás la esposa de tu prójimo, ni desearás la casa de tu prójimo, ni su campo, ni su esclavo, ni su esclava, ni su buey, ni su asno, ni cosa alguna que pertenece a tu prójimo.
22 These words did the Lord speak unto all your assembly on the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice, but he did so no more; and he wrote them on two tables of stone, and he gave them unto me.
Estas Palabras Yavé habló a gran voz a toda su congregación en la Montaña, desde en medio del fuego, la nube y la densa oscuridad, y no añadió más. Las escribió sobre dos tablas de piedra y me las dio.
23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mount was burning with fire, that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
Sucedió que cuando ustedes oyeron la voz desde en medio de la oscuridad, mientras la Montaña ardía con fuego, todos los jefes de sus tribus y sus ancianos se acercaron a mí
24 And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath caused us to see his glory and his greatness, and his voice have we heard out of the midst of the fire: this day have we seen that God can speak with man, who nevertheless may live.
y dijeron: Mira, Yavé nuestro ʼElohim nos mostró su gloria y su grandeza. Oímos su voz desde en medio del fuego. Hoy vimos que ʼElohim habla con el hombre, sin embargo éste vive.
25 But now why should we die? for this great fire may consume us; if we continue to hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, then shall we die.
Pero ¿por qué moriremos? Pues este gran fuego nos devorará. Si continuamos oyendo la voz de Yavé nuestro ʼElohim, moriremos.
26 For where is there any flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, like us, and hath remained alive?
Porque ¿cuál es el hombre que oyó la voz del ʼElohim vivo que habla desde en medio del fuego, como nosotros la oímos, y aún vivimos?
27 Do thou approach, and hear all that the Lord our God may say; and thou shalt speak unto us all that the Lord our God may speak unto thee; and we will hear and do it.
Acércate tú y escucha todo lo que Yavé nuestro ʼElohim diga. Dinos todo lo que Yavé nuestro ʼElohim te dice, y nosotros escucharemos y lo haremos.
28 And the Lord heard the voice of your words, while ye were speaking unto me; and the Lord said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have done well in all that they have spoken.
Yavé escuchó las palabras de ustedes mientras me hablaban y me dijo: Escuché las palabras que te habló este pueblo. Está bien todo lo que dijeron.
29 Who would grant that this their heart might remain in them, to fear me, and to keep all my commandments at all times; in order that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!
¡Oh si ellos tuvieran tal corazón que me temieran y guardaran siempre mis Mandamientos para que les vaya bien a ellos y a sus hijos para siempre!
30 Go, say to them, Return you unto your tents.
Vé y diles: Regresen a sus tiendas.
31 But as for thee, remain thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
Pero tú permanece aquí conmigo y te diré todos los Mandamientos, Estatutos y Ordenanzas que les enseñarás para que los cumplan en la tierra que Yo les doy como posesión.
32 Observe ye then to do as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Así que cuidarán de hacer como Yavé su ʼElohim les ordenó. No se apartarán ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
33 altogether in the way, which the Lord your God hath commanded you, shall ye walk; in order that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may remain many days in the land which ye will possess.
Andarán por todo el camino que Yavé su ʼElohim les ordenó para que vivan y les vaya bien, y prolonguen los días en la tierra que van a poseer.
