Deuteronomy 30

1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou reflectest on them in thy heart among all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath driven thee,

"Or, quand te seront survenus tous ces événements, la bénédiction ou la malédiction que j’offre à ton choix; si tu les prends à cœur au milieu de tous ces peuples où t’aura relégué l’Éternel, ton Dieu,

2 So that thou returnest unto the Lord thy God, and hearkenest unto his voice according to all that I command this day, thou and thy children, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul:

que tu retournes à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, et que tu obéisses à sa voix en tout ce que je te recommande aujourd’hui, toi et tes enfants, de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme,

3 That then the Lord thy God will restore thy captivity, and have mercy upon thee; and he will again gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.

l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te prenant en pitié, mettra un terme à ton exil, et il te rassemblera du sein des peuples parmi lesquels il t’aura dispersé.

4 If thy outcasts be at the outmost parts of heaven, from there will the Lord thy God gather thee, and from there will he fetch thee:

Tes proscrits, fussent-ils à l’extrémité des cieux, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te rappellerait de là, et là même il irait te reprendre.

5 And the Lord thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.

Et il te ramènera, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, dans le pays qu’auront possédé tes pères, et tu le posséderas à ton tour; et il te rendra florissant et nombreux, plus que tes pères.

6 And the Lord thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, in order that thou mayest live.

Et l’Éternel, ton Dieu, circoncira ton cœur et celui de ta postérité, pour que tu aimes l’Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme, et assures ton existence.

7 And the Lord thy God will put all these denunciations upon thy enemies, and on those that hate thee, who have persecuted thee.

Et l’Éternel, ton Dieu, fera peser toutes ces malédictions-là sur tes ennemis, sur ceux dont la haine t’aura persécuté.

8 And thou wilt return and hearken unto the voice of the Lord, and thou wilt do all his commandments which I command thee this day.

Tandis que toi, revenu au bien, tu seras docile à la voix du Seigneur, accomplissant tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd’hui.

9 And the Lord thy God will make thee pre-eminent in every work of thy hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good; for the Lord will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers;

Et le Seigneur, ton Dieu, te prodiguera des biens en favorisant tout le travail de ta main, le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de ton bétail, le fruit de ton sol; car il se plaira de nouveau, le Seigneur, à te faire du bien, comme il s’y est plu pour tes ancêtres,

10 If thou wilt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if thou wilt return unto the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.

pourvu que tu écoutes la voix de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, en gardant ses préceptes et ses lois, tracés dans ce livre de la doctrine; que tu reviennes à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme.

11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, is not hidden from thee, nor is it far off.

Car cette loi que je t’impose en ce jour, elle n’est ni trop ardue pour toi, ni placée trop loin.

12 It is not in heaven; that thou shouldst say, Who will go up for us to heaven, and fetch it down unto us, and cause us to hear it, that we may do it?

Elle n’est pas dans le ciel, pour que tu dises: "Qui montera pour nous au ciel et nous l’ira quérir, et nous la fera entendre afin que nous l’observions?"

13 Neither is it beyond the sea; that thou shouldst say, Who will go over the sea for us, and fetch it unto us, and cause us to hear it, that we may do it!

Elle n’est pas non plus au delà de l’océan, pour que tu dises: "Qui traversera pour nous l’océan et nous l’ira quérir, et nous la fera entendre afin que nous l’observions?"

14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

Non, la chose est tout près de toi: tu l’as dans la bouche et dans le cœur, pour pouvoir l’observer!

15 See, I have set before thee this day life and the good, death and the evil;

Vois, je te propose en ce jour, d’un côté, la vie avec le bien, de l’autre, la mort avec le mal.

16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances; that thou mayest live and multiply; and that the Lord thy God may bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

En faisant ce que je te recommande en ce jour: aimer l’Éternel, ton Dieu, marcher dans ses voies, garder ses préceptes, ses lois et ses décrets, tu vivras, tu grandiras et tu seras béni de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, dans le pays où tu vas entrer pour le conquérir.

17 But if thy heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hearken, and thou sufferest thyself to be drawn away, and thou bowest down to other gods, and servest them:

Mais si, m’aliénant ton cœur, tu deviens indocile; si tu t’égares jusqu’à te prosterner devant des dieux étrangers et leur rendre un culte,

18 I announce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish; ye shall not remain many days upon the land, whither thou passest over the Jordan to go thither to possess it.

je vous le déclare aujourd’hui, vous périrez à coup sûr! Vous n’aurez pas de longs jours sur cette terre où vous allez pénétrer, en passant le Jourdain, pour en faire la conquête!

19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore choose thou life, in order that thou mayest live, both thou and thy seed;

J’En atteste sur vous, en ce jour, le ciel et la terre: j’ai placé devant toi la vie et la mort, le bonheur et la calamité; choisis la vie! Et tu vivras alors, toi et ta postérité.

20 To love the Lord thy God, to hearken to his voice, and to cleave unto him; for he is thy life, and the length of thy days; that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them.

Aime l’Éternel, ton Dieu, écoute sa voix, reste-lui fidèle: c’est là la condition de ta vie et de ta longévité, c’est ainsi que tu te maintiendras dans le pays que l’Éternel a juré à tes pères, Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, de leur donner."
