Deuteronomy 2
1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea, as the Lord had spoken unto me: and we traveled around mount Seir many days.
Luego nos dimos la vuelta y regresamos por el desierto de camino hacia el Mar Rojo, tal como el Señor me lo había dicho, y anduvimos por mucho tiempo de un lugar a otro en la región del Monte de Seír.
2 And the Lord said unto me, as followeth,
Finalmente el Señor me dijo:
3 Ye have traveled long enough around this mountain; turn yourselves northward.
“Han estado vagando en esta región montañosa por suficiente tiempo. Vuelvan al norte,
4 And the people command thou, saying, Ye are passing by the border of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you; therefore take ye good heed unto yourselves;
y dale estas órdenes al pueblo: Pasarán por el territorio de sus parientes, los descendientes de Esaú, que viven en Seir. Ellos tendrán miedo de ustedes, así que deben tener mucho cuidado.
5 Do not contend with them; for I will not give unto you of their land, even so much as a foot's breadth; because unto Esau have I given mount Seir for an inheritance.
No luchen contra ellos, porque no les voy a dar a ustedes nada de esta tierra, ni siquiera el tamaño de una huella, porque yo le he dado el monte Seir a Esaú y le pertenece.
6 Food shall ye buy of them for money, that ye may eat; and water also shall ye buy of them for money, that ye may drink.
Págales con dinero por la comida que comes y el agua que bebes”.
7 For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he hath provided for thy wandering through this great wilderness: these forty years the Lord thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
Recuerden que el Señor su Dios los ha bendecido en todo lo que han hecho. Él los ha cuidado durante su viaje a través de este gran desierto. El Señor su Dios ha estado con ustedes durante estos cuarenta años, y no les ha faltado nada.
8 And we passed away from our brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way through the plain, from Elath, and from 'Ezyon-gaber. And we turned and passed the way of the wilderness of Moab.
Así que pasamos por la tierra de nuestros parientes, los descendientes de Esaú, que viven en Seir. No tomamos el camino de la Arabá desde Elath y Ezion-geber. En su lugar usamos el camino que atraviesa el desierto de Moab.
9 And the Lord said unto me, Do not attack the Moabites, nor contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee from their land any inheritance, because unto the children of Lot have I given 'Ar for an inheritance.
Entonces el Señor me dijo: “No causes problemas a los moabitas ni los combatas, porque no te voy a dar nada de su tierra, porque he dado Ar a los descendientes de Lot y les pertenece”.
10 The Emim in times past dwelt therein, a people great, and numerous, and tall as the 'Anakim;
(Un pueblo fuerte y numeroso llamado los Emim vivió una vez allí. Ellos eran tan altos como los anaceos,
11 As Rephaim were also they accounted, equally with the 'Anakim; and the Moabites called the[[m]] Emim.
y al igual que los anaceos, también fueron considerados como Refaim, pero los moabitas los llamaron Emim.
12 And in Seir dwelt the Chorim in times past; but the children of Esau drove them out, and they destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel hath done unto the land of his inheritance, which the Lord hath given unto them.
Anteriormente los horeos vivían en Seir, pero los descendientes de Esaú se apoderaron de sus tierras. Mataron a los horeos y se establecieron allí, como hizo Israel cuando ocuparon la tierra que el Señor les había dado).
13 Now rise up, and get you over the brook Zered; and we passed over the brook Zered.
Entonces el Señor nos dijo: “Vayan y crucen el arroyo Zered”. Así que cruzamos el arroyo Zered.
14 And the time which we came from Kadesh-barnea', until we had passed over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were spent from out the midst of the camp, as the Lord had sworn unto them.
El tiempo que tardamos en viajar desde Cades-barnea hasta que cruzamos el arroyo de Zered fue de treinta y ocho años. Para entonces, toda la generación de guerreros había muerto y ya no formaban parte del campamento, como el Señor les había jurado que sucedería.
15 And also the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp; until they were spent.
De hecho, el Señor trabajó contra ellos para sacarlos del campamento, hasta que todos murieron.
16 So it came to pass, when all the men of war were spent by, dying from the midst of the people,
Una vez muertos los guerreros del pueblo,
17 That the Lord spoke unto me, saying,
el Señor me dijo:
18 Thou art passing this day by the border of Moab, by 'Ar,
“Hoy cruzarás la frontera de Moab por la ciudad de Ar.
19 And thou comest nigh opposite the children of 'Ammon: do not attack them, nor contend with them; for I will not give unto thee of the land of the children of 'Ammon any inheritance; because unto the children of Lot have I given it for an inheritance.
Sin embargo, cuando entres en territorio amonita, no les causes problemas ni luches con ellos, porque no les daré a ustedes ninguna tierra amonita, pues se la he dado a los descendientes de Lot y les pertenece”.
20 As the land of Rephaim was it also accounted: Rephaim dwelt therein in times past; and the 'Ammonites called them Zamzummim;
(Esta tierra era considerada anteriormente como el país de los Refaim que solían vivir allí. Sin embargo, los amonitas los llamaban Zamzumitas.
21 A people great, and numerous, and tall, as the 'Anakim; but the Lord destroyed them before them; and they drove them out, and dwelt in their stead:
Eran un pueblo fuerte y numeroso, tan alto como los descendientes de Anac. Pero el Señor los destruyó cuando los amonitas los invadieron y los expulsaron y se establecieron allí,
22 As he hath done to the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from before whom he destroyed the Chorim; and they drove them out and dwelt in their stead, even unto this day.
tal como lo hizo con los descendientes de Esaú que vivían en Seir cuando destruyó a los horeos. Los expulsaron y se establecieron donde vivían y siguen allí hasta hoy.
23 And the 'Avvim, who dwelt in open towns, as far as unto Gazzah, —the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.
Los Avvim, que vivían en aldeas tan lejanas como Gaza, fueron destruidos por los filisteos, quienes vinieron desde Creta, y se establecieron en el lugar donde solían vivir).
24 Rise ye up, set forward, and pass over the brook Arnon; behold I have given into thy hand Sichon the king of Cheshbon, the Emorite, and his land: begin to drive him out, and contend with him in battle.
Entonces el Señor nos dijo, “Levántense y crucen el Valle de Arnón. Sepan que les he entregado a Sehón el Amorita, rey de Heshbon, así como su tierra. Vayan y comiencen a tomarla, y peleen con él en batalla.
25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven; whoever will hear the report of thee, shall tremble, and shall quake because of thee.
A partir de este día, haré que todas las naciones de la tierra les teman. Temblarán de terror cuando aparezcas por causa de las noticias que oirán sobre ustedes”.
26 And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sichon, the king of Cheshbon, with words of peace, saying,
Entonces Moisés les dijo a los israelitas: “Desde el desierto de Cademot envié mensajeros con una oferta de paz para Sehón, rey de Hesbón, diciéndole,
27 Let me pass through thy land: always by the highway will I go along; I will not turn unto the right hand or unto the left.
‘Déjanos pasar por tu tierra. Nos quedaremos en el camino principal y no nos desviaremos ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
28 Food shalt thou sell me for money, that I may eat; and water for money shalt thou give me, that I may drink: only let me pass through on foot;
Véndenos comida para comer y agua para beber por dinero. Déjanos pasar a pie,
29 (As the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in 'Ar, have done unto me: ) until that I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which the Lord our God giveth us.
como nos permitieron los descendientes de Esaú que viven en Seir y los moabitas que viven en Ar, hasta que crucemos el Jordán hacia el país que el Señor nuestro Dios nos da’”.
30 But Sichon, the king of Cheshbon, would not suffer our passing by him; for the Lord thy God had hardened his spirit, and had made obstinate his heart, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as [hath happened] this day.
Pero Sehón, rey de Hesbón, se negó a dejarnos pasar, porque el Señor su Dios le dio un espíritu terco y una actitud obstinada, para entonces entregárnoslo, como lo ha hecho ahora.
31 And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give up Sichon and his land before thee: begin to drive him out, that thou mayest inherit his land.
Entonces el Señor me dijo: “Mira, he empezado a entregarte a Sehón y su tierra. Ahora puedes empezar a conquistar y tomar su tierra”.
32 And Sichon came out against us, he and all his people, to the battle at Yahaz.
Sehón y todo su ejército salieron a luchar contra nosotros en Yahaza.
33 And the Lord our God gave him up before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
El Señor nuestro Dios nos lo entregó y lo matamos a él, a sus hijos y a todo su ejército.
34 And we conquered all his cities at that time, and devoted every inhabited city, and the women, and the little ones; we left none that escaped.
También capturamos a toda su gente, y los separamos para su destrucción. A la gente de cada pueblo: hombres, mujeres y niños. No dejamos ningún sobreviviente.
35 Only the cattle we took as booty unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we had captured.
Todo lo que tomamos para nosotros fue el ganado y el saqueo de los pueblos que habíamos capturado.
36 From 'Aro'er, which is by the bank of the brook of Arnon, and the city that is in the brook, even unto Gil'ad, there was not one city which was too strong for us; the whole did the Lord our God give up before us.
Ningún pueblo tenía muros demasiado altos que no pudiéramos conquista, desde Aroer en el borde del valle del Arnón, hasta Galaad. El Señor nuestro Dios nos los entregó todos.
37 Only unto the land of the children of 'Ammon didst thou not come nigh, unto the whole margin of the brook Yabbok, and the cities in the mountain, and unto whatsoever the Lord our God had forbidden us.
Pero no fueron a ningún sitio cerca del país de los amonitas, la zona que rodea el río Jabocni los pueblos de las colinas, ni cualquier otro lugar que el Señor nuestro Dios haya puesto fuera de los límites.
