Deuteronomy 14
1 Ye are the children of the Lord your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
Ninyi ni watu wa Yahwe Mungu wenu. Msijikate wenyewe, wala kunyoa sehemu za nyuso zenu kwa ajili ya wafu.
2 For a holy people art thou unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath made choice of thee to be unto himself a peculiar nation above all the nations that are upon the face of the earth.
Kwa kuwa mu taifa lilowekwa wakfu kwa Yahwe Mungu wenu, na Yahwe amewachagua kuwa watu kwa ajili ya urithi wake, zaidi kuliko watu wote walio juu ya uso wa dunia.
3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.
Hampaswi kula kitu chochote kilicho chukizo.
4 These are the beasts which ye may eat: The ox, the sheep, and the goat,
Hawa ni wanyama ambao mnaweza kula: ng'ombe, kondoo, mbuzi,
5 The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow-deer, and the chamois, and the gazelle, and the wild ox, and the antelope.
kulungu, paa, kulungu wa kiume, mbuzi wa mwituni, paa mweupe na pofu na kondoo wa mlimani
6 And every beast that hath parted hoofs, and whose feet are cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts—that alone may ye eat.
Mnaweza kula wanyama wowote ambao wamegawanyika kwato, ambaye ana kwato zilizogawanyika mara mbili, na utafuna macheuo.
7 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of those that chew the cud, and of those that possess the divided cloven hoof: The camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; unclean are they unto you;
Hata hivyo, hampaswi kula baadhi ya wanyama ambao utafuna macheuo au ambao wana kwato zilizogawanyika mara mbili: ngamia, sungura, pomono, kwa sababu watafuna macheuo lakini hawajagawanyika kwato, ni najisi kwenu.
8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you; of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their dead carcass shall ye not touch.
Nguruwe ni najisi kwenu pia kwa sababu amegawanyika kwato lakini hatafuni macheuo; ni najisi kwenu. Msile nyama ya nguruwe, na msiguse mizoga yao.
9 This may ye eat of all that is in the waters: all that hath fins and scales may ye eat;
Haya yaliyo ndani ya maji mnaweza kula: chochote kilicho na mapesi na magamba;
10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales shall ye not eat; it is unclean unto you.
lakini chochote kisichokuwa na mapesi na magamba msile; ni najisi kwenu.
11 Every clean bird may ye eat.
Ndege wote safi mnaweza kula.
12 But these are they which ye shall not eat of them: The eagle, and the ossifrage, and the osprey,
Lakini hawa ni ndege ambao hampaswi kula: tai, tumbusi, kipungu,
13 And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind,
mwewe mwekundu na mweusi, aina yoyote ya kipanga.
14 And every raven after his kind,
Hampaswi kula aina yoyote ya kunguru,
15 And the ostrich, and the night-hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after his kind,
na mbuzi na mwewe wa usiku, Lanes ndege wa baharini, aina yoyote ya mwewe,
16 The little owl, and the great owl and the swan,
bundi mdogo, bundi mkubwa, na bundi mweupe,
17 And the pelican, and the gier-eagle, and the cormorant,
Mwari, nyamafu ya tai, mnandio.
18 And the stork, and the heron after his kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
Hampaswi kula korongo, aina yoyote ya kongoti, hudihudi, na popo.
19 And every winged insect is unclean unto you: it shall not be eaten.
Wote wenye mabawa; vitu vya utando ni najisi kwenu; havipaswi kuliwa.
20 All clean fowls may ye eat.
Mnaweza kula vitu vyote virukavyo.
21 Ye shall not eat any thing that dieth of itself: unto the stranger that is in thy gates canst thou give it, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien; for thou art a holy people unto the Lord thy God; thou shalt not seethe a kid in its mother's milk.
Hampaswi kula chochote kinachokufa chenyewe; mnaweza kumpa mgeni ambaye yuko katika mji wenu, kwamba anaweza kula au mnaweza kuuza kwa mgeni. Kwa kuwa mu taifa lilolowekwa wakfu kwa ajili ya Yahwe Mungu wenu. Hampaswi kumchemusha mbuzi kijana katika maziwa ya mama yake.
22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the produce of thy seed, which the field bringeth forth year by year.
Hakika mnapaswa kutoa fungu la kumi la mavuno ya mbegu zenu zote, ambazo huja kutoka kwenye shamba kila mwaka.
23 And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he will choose to cause his name to dwell there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thy oil, and the first-born of thy herds and of thy flocks; in order that thou may learn to fear the Lord thy God all the days.
Mnapaswa kula mbele ya Yahwe Mungu wenu, katika eneo ambalo atachagua kama patakatifu pake, fungu la kumi la nafaka zenu, za mvinyo mpya, na mafuta yenu, na mzaliwa wa kwanza wa wanyama na mifugo, kwamba mnaweza kujifunza daima kumheshimu Yahwe Mungu wenu.
24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; because the place is too far from thee, which the Lord thy God will choose to set his name there, because the Lord thy God will bless thee:
Kama safari ni ndefu kwenu na kwamba hamwezi kuibeba, kwa sababu eneo ambalo Yahwe Mungu wenu atachagua kama patakatifu pake ni mbali kwenu, basi, wakati Yahwe Mngu anawabariki,
25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thy hand, and thou shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God will choose;
mtabadilisha sadaka katika pesa. Fungeni pesa kwenye mkono, na nendeni kwenye eneo ambalo Yahwe Mungu wenu atachagua.
26 And thou shalt lay out that money for whatsoever thy soul longeth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul asketh of thee; and thou shalt eat it there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thy household.
Huko mtatumia pesa kwa chochote mnatamani kwa ng'ombe au kondoo, au kwa mvinyo, au kwa kinywaji imara, au kwa chochote mnatamani; mtakula hapo mbele ya Yahwe Mungu wenu, na mtafurahi, nyie na nyumba zenu.
27 And the Levite, who is within thy gates, him shalt thou not forsake; for he hath no portion nor inheritance with thee.
Mlawi ambaye yuko malangoni mwenu- msimsahau, kwa kuwa hana sehemu wala urithi pamoja nanyi.
28 At the end of three years shalt thou bring forth all the tithe of thy produce in the same year, and thou shalt lay it down within thy gates:
Mwisho mwa kila miaka mitatu mtawasilisha mafungu yote ya kumi ya mazao kwa mwaka huo huo, na mtatunza katika malango yenu;
29 And then shall come the Levite, because he hath no portion nor inheritance with thee, with the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates, and they shall eat and be satisfied; in order that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hand which thou doest.
na Mlawi, kwa sababu hana sehemu wala urithi pamoja nanyi, na mgeni, na yatima, na wajane walio ndani ya malango yenu, watakuja na kula na kurithika. Fanya hivyo kwa Yahwe Mungu wenu aweze kuwabariki katika kazi zote za mikono yenuo mnazofanya.
