Deuteronomy 10
1 At that time the Lord said unto me, Hew for thyself two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount; and make thyself an ark of wood.
En ce temps-là, Yahvé me dit: « Coupe deux tables de pierre comme les premières, et monte vers moi sur la montagne, et fais une arche de bois.
2 And I will write on the tables the words that were on the first tables which thou hast broken; and thou shalt put them in the ark.
J'écrirai sur ces tablettes les paroles qui étaient sur les premières tablettes que tu as brisées, et tu les mettras dans l'arche. »
3 And I made an ark of shittim-wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and I went up into the mount, with the two tables in my hand.
Je fis donc une arche de bois d'acacia, je taillai deux tablettes de pierre comme les premières, et je montai sur la montagne, les deux tablettes à la main.
4 And he wrote on the tables, like the first writing, the ten commandments, which the Lord had spoken unto you on the mount out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; and the Lord gave them unto me.
Il écrivit sur les tables, selon la première écriture, les dix commandements dont Yahvé vous a parlé sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, le jour de l'assemblée; et Yahvé me les donna.
5 And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and I put the tables in the ark which I had made; and they have remained there, as the Lord hath commanded me.
Je me suis retourné et je suis descendu de la montagne, et j'ai mis les tables dans l'arche que j'avais faite; et elles y sont comme l'Éternel me l'a ordonné.
6 And the children of Israel took their journey from the wells of the children of Ya'akan to Mosserah: there Aaron died, and he was buried there; and Elazar his son became priest in his stead.
(Les enfants d'Israël partirent de Beeroth Bene Jaakan pour se rendre à Mosérah. C'est là qu'Aaron mourut et qu'il fut enterré, et son fils Éléazar exerça le sacerdoce à sa place.
7 From there they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Yotbatha, a land of brooks of waters.
De là, ils partirent pour Gudgoda, et de Gudgoda pour Jotbatha, pays de ruisseaux.
8 At that time did the Lord separate the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.
En ce temps-là, Yahvé mit à part la tribu de Lévi pour porter l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé, pour se tenir devant Yahvé, pour le servir et pour bénir en son nom, jusqu'à ce jour.
9 Therefore was not assigned unto Levi any portion or inheritance with his brethren: the Lord is his inheritance, as the Lord thy God hath spoken to him.
C'est pourquoi Lévi n'a ni part ni héritage avec ses frères; son héritage, c'est Yahvé, selon ce que Yahvé ton Dieu lui a dit).
10 And I stayed on the mount, like the first days, forty days and forty nights; and the Lord hearkened unto me also at that time, the Lord would not destroy thee.
Je suis resté sur la montagne, comme la première fois, quarante jours et quarante nuits, et l'Éternel m'a écouté cette fois-là aussi. L'Éternel n'a pas voulu te détruire.
11 And the Lord said unto me, Arise, go on the journey before the people, that they may go in and take possession of the land, which I have sworn unto their fathers to give unto them.
Yahvé me dit: « Lève-toi, pars devant le peuple, et ils entreront en possession du pays que j'ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner. »
12 And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
Maintenant, Israël, qu'est-ce que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, exige de toi, sinon que tu craignes l'Éternel, ton Dieu, que tu marches dans toutes ses voies, que tu l'aimes et que tu serves l'Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme,
13 To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day, for thy own good?
en observant les commandements et les lois de l'Éternel, que je te prescris aujourd'hui pour ton bien?
14 Behold, to the Lord thy God belong the heavens and the heavens of heavens, and the earth with all that is thereon;
Voici, à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, appartiennent le ciel, le ciel des cieux, et la terre, avec tout ce qu'elle contient.
15 Yet only in thy fathers had the Lord delight, to love them; he chose, therefore, their seed after them, namely you, from all the nations, as it is this day.
Seulement, l'Éternel a pris plaisir à vos pères pour les aimer, et il a choisi leur descendance après eux, même vous par-dessus tous les peuples, comme il en est aujourd'hui.
16 Remove therefore the obduracy of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked.
Circoncise donc le prépuce de ton cœur, et ne sois plus un cou rigide.
17 For the Lord your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who hath no regard to persons, and taketh no bribe;
Car Yahvé, ton Dieu, est le Dieu des dieux et le Seigneur des seigneurs, le grand Dieu, le puissant et l'imposant, qui ne respecte pas les personnes et n'accepte pas les pots-de-vin.
18 Who executeth justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loveth the stranger, to give him food and raiment.
Il fait justice à l'orphelin et à la veuve, et il aime l'étranger en lui donnant nourriture et vêtement.
19 Love ye then the stranger; for you have been strangers in the land of Egypt.
C'est pourquoi, aimez l'étranger, car vous avez été étrangers au pays d'Égypte.
20 The Lord thy God shalt thou fear: him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and by his name shalt thou swear.
Tu craindras Yahvé, ton Dieu. Tu le serviras. Tu t'attacheras à lui et tu jureras par son nom.
21 He is thy praise, and he is thy God, who hath done for thee these great and fearful things, which thy own eyes have seen.
C'est lui qui te loue et c'est lui qui est ton Dieu, qui a fait pour toi ces choses grandes et impressionnantes que tes yeux ont vues.
22 With seventy persons did thy fathers go down into Egypt; and now the Lord thy God hath made thee like the stars of heaven in multitude.
Tes pères sont descendus en Égypte avec soixante-dix personnes; et maintenant Yahvé ton Dieu t'a rendu comme les étoiles du ciel pour la multitude.
