Daniel 5
1 King Belshazzar prepared a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and before these thousand did he drink wine.
Βαλτάσαρ ο βασιλεύς έκαμε συμπόσιον μέγα εις χιλίους εκ των μεγιστάνων αυτού και έπινεν οίνον ενώπιον των χιλίων.
2 Belshazzar ordered, through the counsel of the wine, to bring in the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken away out of the temple which was in Jerusalem: that the king, and his lords, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therefrom.
Και εν τη γεύσει του οίνου προσέταξεν ο Βαλτάσαρ να φέρωσι τα σκεύη τα χρυσά και τα αργυρά, τα οποία Ναβουχοδονόσορ ο πατήρ αυτού αφήρεσεν εκ του ναού του εν Ιερουσαλήμ, διά να πίωσιν εν αυτοίς ο βασιλεύς και οι μεγιστάνες αυτού, αι γυναίκες αυτού και αι παλλακαί αυτού.
3 Then they brought in the golden vessels that were taken away out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his lords, his wives, and his concubines, drank from them.
Και εφέρθησαν τα σκεύη τα χρυσά, τα οποία αφηρέθησαν εκ του ναού του οίκου του Θεού του εν Ιερουσαλήμ· και έπινον εν αυτοίς ο βασιλεύς και οι μεγιστάνες αυτού, αι γυναίκες αυτού και αι παλλακαί αυτού.
4 They drank wine, and praised their gods of gold, and of silver, of copper, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
Έπινον οίνον και ήνεσαν τους θεούς τους χρυσούς και αργυρούς, τους χαλκούς, τους σιδηρούς, τους ξυλίνους και τους λιθίνους.
5 At that same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote opposite to the chandelier upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
Εν αυτή τη ώρα εξήλθον δάκτυλοι χειρός ανθρώπου και έγραψαν κατέναντι της λυχνίας επί το κονίαμα του τοίχου του παλατίου του βασιλέως· και ο βασιλεύς έβλεπε την παλάμην της χειρός, ήτις έγραψε.
6 Then was the king's color changed, and his thoughts troubled him: so that the bands of his loins were loosed, and his knees knocked one against the other.
Τότε η όψις του βασιλέως ηλλοιώθη και οι διαλογισμοί αυτού συνετάραττον αυτόν, ώστε οι σύνδεσμοι της οσφύος αυτού διελύοντο και τα γόνατα αυτού συνεκρούοντο.
7 the king called with might to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king commenced, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whatsoever man will read this writing, and tell me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall rule as the third in the kingdom.
Και εβόησεν ο βασιλεύς μεγαλοφώνως να εισάξωσι τους επαοιδούς, τους Χαλδαίους και τους μάντεις. Τότε ο βασιλεύς ελάλησε και είπε προς τους σοφούς της Βαβυλώνος, Όστις αναγνώση την γραφήν ταύτην και μοι δείξη την ερμηνείαν αυτής, θέλει ενδυθή πορφύραν, και η άλυσος η χρυσή θέλει τεθή περί τον τράχηλον αυτού και θέλει είσθαι ο τρίτος άρχων του βασιλείου.
8 Then came in all the wise men of the king; but they were not able to read the writing, nor to make its interpretation known to the king.
Τότε εισήλθον πάντες οι σοφοί του βασιλέως· πλην δεν ηδύναντο να αναγνώσωσι την γραφήν ουδέ την ερμηνείαν αυτής να φανερώσωσι προς τον βασιλέα.
9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly terrified, and his color was changed on him, and his lords were confounded.
Και ο βασιλεύς Βαλτάσαρ εταράχθη μεγάλως και ηλλοιώθη εν αυτώ η όψις αυτού και οι μεγιστάνες αυτού συνεταράχθησαν.
10 [Now] the queen in consequence of the words of the king and of his lords came into the banquet-house; the queen commenced and said, O king, live for ever; let thy thoughts not trouble thee, nor let thy color be changed:
Η βασίλισσα εκ των λόγων του βασιλέως και των μεγιστάνων αυτού εισήλθεν εις τον οίκον του συμποσίου· και ελάλησεν η βασίλισσα και είπε, Βασιλεύ, ζήθι εις τον αιώνα· μη σε ταράττωσιν οι διαλογισμοί σου και η όψις σου ας μη αλλοιούται.
11 There is a man in thy kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father enlightenment and intelligence and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him: and king Nebuchadnezzar thy father appointed him chief of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers: —yes, thy father, O king.—
Υπάρχει άνθρωπος εν τω βασιλείω σου, εις τον οποίον είναι το πνεύμα των αγίων θεών· και εν ταις ημέραις του πατρός σου φως και σύνεσις και σοφία, ως η σοφία των θεών, ευρέθησαν εν αυτώ, τον οποίον ο βασιλεύς Ναβουχοδονόσορ ο πατήρ σου, ο βασιλεύς ο πατήρ σου, κατέστησεν άρχοντα των μάγων, των επαοιδών, των Χαλδαίων και των μάντεων.
12 Forasmuch as a superior spirit, and knowledge, and intelligence, interpreting of dreams, and solving of riddles, and of untying knotty [doubts], were found in him, in Daniel, to whom the king assigned the name of Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will tell the interpretation.
Διότι πνεύμα έξοχον και γνώσις και σύνεσις, ερμηνεία ενυπνίων και εξήγησις αινιγμάτων και λύσις αποριών, ευρέθησαν εν αυτώ τω Δανιήλ, τον οποίον ο βασιλεύς μετωνόμασε Βαλτασάσαρ· τώρα λοιπόν ας προσκληθή ο Δανιήλ, και θέλει δείξει την ερμηνείαν.
13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king: the king commenced and said unto Daniel, Art thou Daniel, who art of the children of the exiles of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?
Τότε εισήχθη ο Δανιήλ έμπροσθεν του βασιλέως. Και ο βασιλεύς ελάλησε και είπε προς τον Δανιήλ, Συ είσαι ο Δανιήλ εκείνος, όστις είσαι εκ των υιών της αιχμαλωσίας του Ιούδα, τους οποίους έφερεν εκ της Ιουδαίας ο βασιλεύς ο πατήρ μου;
14 And I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that enlightenment and intelligence and superior wisdom are found in thee.
Ήκουσα τωόντι περί σου, ότι το πνεύμα των θεών είναι εν σοι και φως και σύνεσις και σοφία έξοχος ευρέθησαν εν σοι.
15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, had been brought before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me its interpretation; but they were not able to tell the interpretation of the matter.
Και τώρα εισήλθον έμπροσθέν μου οι σοφοί και οι επαοιδοί, διά να αναγνώσωσι την γραφήν ταύτην και να φανερώσωσιν εις εμέ την ερμηνείαν αυτής, πλην δεν ηδυνήθησαν να δείξωσι του πράγματος την ερμηνείαν.
16 But I have truly heard concerning thee, that thou art able to give interpretations, and untie knotty [doubts]: now if thou art able to read the writing, and make known to me its interpretation, thou shalt be clothed with purple, with a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt rule as the third in the kingdom.
Και εγώ ήκουσα περί σου, ότι δύνασαι να ερμηνεύης και να λύης απορίας· τώρα λοιπόν, εάν δυνηθής να αναγνώσης την γραφήν και να φανερώσης προς εμέ την ερμηνείαν αυτής θέλεις ενδυθή πορφύραν και η άλυσος η χρυσή θέλει τεθή περί τον τράχηλόν σου και θέλεις είσθαι ο τρίτος άρχων του βασιλείου.
17 Then answered Daniel and said before the king, Let thy gifts remain in thy possession, and bestow thy bounty on another: nevertheless will I read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
Τότε ο Δανιήλ απεκρίθη και είπεν έμπροσθεν του βασιλέως, Τα δώρα σου ας ήναι εν σοι και δος εις άλλον τας αμοιβάς σου· εγώ δε θέλω αναγνώσει την γραφήν εις τον βασιλέα και θέλω φανερώσει την ερμηνείαν προς αυτόν.
18 O thou king! the most high God gave kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and honor unto Nebuchadnezzar thy father;
Βασιλεύ, ο Θεός ο ύψιστος έδωκεν εις τον Ναβουχοδονόσορ τον πατέρα σου βασιλείαν και μεγαλειότητα και δόξαν και τιμήν.
19 And because of the greatness that he had given unto him, all people, nations, and languages trembled and shook before him: whom he pleased he slew; and whom he pleased he kept alive; and whom he pleased he lifted up; and whom he pleased he brought low.
Και διά την μεγαλειότητα, την οποίαν έδωκεν εις αυτόν, πάντες οι λαοί, έθνη και γλώσσαι έτρεμον και εφοβούντο έμπροσθεν αυτού· όντινα ήθελεν εφόνευε και όντινα ήθελεν εφύλαττε ζώντα και όντινα ήθελεν ύψωνε και όντινα ήθελεν εταπείνονεν·
20 But, when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit hardened to deal presumptuously, he was cast down from the throne of his kingdom, and his dignity did they take from him;
αλλ' ότε η καρδία αυτού επήρθη και ο νούς αυτού εσκληρύνθη εν τη υπερηφανία, κατεβιβάσθη από του βασιλικού θρόνου αυτού και αφηρέθη η δόξα αυτού απ' αυτού·
21 And from the sons of men was he driven forth, and his heart became equal with [that of] the beasts, and with the wild asses was his dwelling; they suffered him to eat herbs like oxen, and with the dew of heaven was his body made wet: till he acknowledged that the most high God ruleth over the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he pleaseth.
και εξεδιώχθη εκ των υιών των ανθρώπων, και η καρδία αυτού έγεινεν ως των θηρίων και η κατοικία αυτού ήτο μετά των αγρίων όνων· με χόρτον ως οι βόες ετρέφετο και το σώμα αυτού εβρέχετο υπό της δρόσου του ουρανού· εωσού εγνώρισεν ότι ο Θεός ο ύψιστος είναι Κύριος της βασιλείας των ανθρώπων και όντινα θέλει, στήνει επ' αυτήν.
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thy heart, though thou knewest all this;
Και συ ο υιός αυτού, ο Βαλτάσαρ, δεν εταπείνωσας την καρδίαν σου, ενώ εγνώριζες πάντα ταύτα·
23 But against the Lord of heaven hast thou lifted thyself up; and the vessels of his house have they brought before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine from them; and the gods of silver, and gold, of copper, iron, wood, and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor know, hast thou praised; and the God in whose hand thy soul is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
αλλ' υψώθης εναντίον του Κυρίου του ουρανού· και τα σκεύη του οίκου αυτού έφεραν έμπροσθέν σου, και επίνετε οίνον εξ αυτών και συ και οι μεγιστάνές σου, αι γυναίκές σου και αι παλλακαί σου· και εδοξολόγησας τους θεούς τους αργυρούς και τους χρυσούς, τους χαλκούς, τους σιδηρούς, τους ξυλίνους και τους λιθίνους, οίτινες δεν βλέπουσιν ουδέ ακούουσιν ουδέ νοούσι· τον δε Θεόν, εις του οποίου την χείρα είναι η πνοή σου και εις την εξουσίαν αυτού πάσαι αι οδοί σου, δεν εδόξασας.
24 Thereupon was sent from before him the part of the hand, and this writing was noted down.
Διά τούτο εστάλη απ' έμπροσθεν αυτού η παλάμη της χειρός και ενεχαράχθη η γραφή αύτη.
25 And this is the writing that was noted down, M'ne, M'ne, T'kel, Upharsin.
Και αύτη είναι η γραφή ήτις ενεχαράχθη· Μενέ, Μενέ, Θεκέλ, Ο υ φ α ρ σ ί ν.
26 This the interpretation of the matter: M'ne, God hath numbered thy kingdom, and made an end of it.
Αύτη είναι η ερμηνεία του πράγματος· Μενέ, εμέτρησεν ο Θεός την βασιλείαν σου και ετελείωσεν αυτήν·
27 T'kel, Thou least been weighed in the balances, and been found wanting.
Θεκέλ, εζυγίσθης εν τη πλάστιγγι και ευρέθης ελλιπής·
28 P'ress; Thy kingdom hath been divided, and is given to the Medes and Persians.
Φερές, διηρέθη η βασιλεία σου και εδόθη εις τους Μήδους και Πέρσας.
29 Then gave Belshazzar the order, and they clothed Daniel with purple, with a chain of gold about his neck, and they made a proclamation concerning him, that he should rule as the third in the kingdom.
Τότε προσέταξεν ο Βαλτάσαρ και ενέδυσαν τον Δανιήλ την πορφύραν, και περιέθηκαν την άλυσον την χρυσήν περί τον τράχηλον αυτού, και διεκήρυξαν περί αυτού, να ήναι ο τρίτος άρχων του βασιλείου.
30 In that very night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
Την αυτήν νύκτα εφονεύθη ο Βαλτάσαρ ο βασιλεύς των Χαλδαίων.
31 And Darius the Median obtained the kingdom, when he was sixty and two years old.
Και Δαρείος ο Μήδος έλαβε την βασιλείαν, ων περίπου ετών εξήκοντα δύο.
