Daniel 1
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoyakim the king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
În anul al treilea al domniei lui Ioiachim, împăratul lui Iuda, a venit Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului la Ierusalim și l-a asediat.
2 And the Lord gave up into his hand Yehoyakim the king of Judah, with part of the vessels of the house of God: and he brought them into the land of Shin'ar into the house of his god, namely, he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.
Și Domnul l-a dat pe Ioiachim, împăratul lui Iuda, în mâna lui, cu o parte din vasele casei lui Dumnezeu; pe care le-a dus în țara Șinar la casa dumnezeului său; și a adus vasele în casa tezaurului dumnezeului său.
3 And the king said unto Ashpenas, the chief of his eunuchs, that he should bring out of the children of Israel, and of the royal seed, and of the nobles,
Și împăratul i-a vorbit lui Așpenaz, stăpânul famenilor săi, să aducă [pe câțiva] dintre copiii lui Israel și din sămânța împăratului și a prinților;
4 [Certain] lads in whom there should be no kind of blemish, but who should be handsome in appearance, and intelligent in all wisdom, and acquainted with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as should have the ability to serve in the king's palace, and that these should be taught the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.
Copii în care nu [era] cusur, ci plăcuți la vedere și pricepuți în toată înțelepciunea și iscusiți în cunoaștere și înțelegând știința și să fie în stare să stea în palatul împăratului și pe care să îi învețe învățătura și limba caldeenilor.
5 And the king ordered for them a daily provision for its day of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank, and to educate them three years, so that at the end thereof they should serve before the king.
Și împăratul le-a rânduit o porție zilnică din mâncarea împăratului și din vinul pe care l-a băut; astfel hrănindu-i trei ani, ca la sfârșitul acestora să poată sta în fața împăratului.
6 Now there were among these of the children of Judah, Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah.
Și printre aceștia erau dintre copiii lui Iuda: Daniel, Hanania, Mișael și Azaria;
7 And the chief of the eunuchs assigned them names; and he assigned to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Chananyah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to 'Azaryah, of 'Abed-nego.
Cărora mai marele famenilor le-a dat nume; și i-a dat lui Daniel [numele] Belteșațar; și lui Hanania, Șadrac; și lui Mișael, Meșac; și lui Azaria, Abednego.
8 But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the food of the king, nor with the wine which he drank: and therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not need to defile himself.
Dar Daniel a hotărât în inima lui să nu se întineze cu porția de mâncare a împăratului, nici cu vinul pe care îl bea el; de aceea a cerut de la mai marele famenilor să nu [îl oblige] să se pângărească.
9 And God gave Daniel kindness and mercy before the chief of the eunuchs.
Și Dumnezeu i-a dat lui Daniel favoare și milă înaintea mai marelui famenilor.
10 And the chief of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath ordered your food and your drink; for why should he see your face sadder looking than that of the lads who are of your age? and ye would thus endanger my head with the king.
Și mai marele famenilor i-a spus lui Daniel: Mă tem de domnul meu împăratul, care v-a rânduit mâncarea și băutura; căci de ce să vadă el fețele voastre arătând mai rău decât ale tinerilor care [sunt] de felul vostru? Atunci [îmi] veți pune capul în pericol în fața împăratului.
11 Then said Daniel to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had given charge over Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah,
Atunci Daniel i-a spus lui Melțar, pe care mai marele famenilor l-a pus peste Daniel, Hanania, Mișael și Azaria:
12 Prove, I beseech thee, thy servants, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink;
Te implor, încearcă pe servitorii tăi, zece zile; și ei să ne dea legume să mâncăm și apă să bem.
13 And then let our countenances be looked at before thee, and the countenance of the lads that eat the food of the king: and as thou mayest see [fitting], so deal with thy servants.
Apoi să fie privite înfățișările noastre înaintea ta și înfățișarea tinerilor ce mănâncă din porția de mâncare a împăratului; și după cum vezi [așa] să te porți cu servitorii tăi.
14 And he hearkened unto them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
Astfel el le-a dat ascultare în acest lucru și i-a încercat zece zile.
15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared better and fuller in flesh than [that of] all the lads who ate the food of the king.
Și la sfârșitul a zece zile, înfățișările lor au apărut mai frumoase și mai grase în carne decât a tuturor tinerilor care au mâncat porția de mâncare a împăratului.
16 And the steward took away their [apportioned] food, and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.
Astfel Melțar a luat porția lor de mâncare și vinul pe care trebuiau să îl bea; și le-a dat legume.
17 But as regardeth all these four lads, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
Cât despre acești patru tineri, Dumnezeu le-a dat cunoaștere și pricepere în toată învățătura și înțelepciunea; și Daniel avea înțelegere în toate viziunile și visele.
18 And at the end of the days [after] which the king had said that they should be presented, the chief of the eunuchs presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.
Și la sfârșitul zilelor la care împăratul spusese să îi aducă, mai marele famenilor i-a adus înaintea lui Nebucadnețar.
19 And the king spoke with them; and there was not found among them all any one like Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah: and so they served before the king.
Și împăratul a vorbit îndeaproape cu ei; și dintre toți nu s-a găsit nimeni ca Daniel, Hanania, Mișael și Azaria; de aceea au stat în picioare înaintea împăratului.
20 And in every matter of wise understanding, which the king required of them, he found them ten times superior above all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his kingdom.
Și în toate lucrurile de înțelepciune [și] înțelegere de care i-a întrebat împăratul, i-a găsit de zece ori mai buni decât toți magii [și] astrologii care [erau] în tot domeniul lui.
21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
Și Daniel a fost acolo până în anul întâi al împăratului Cirus.
