Amos 6
1 Woe to those that are free from care in Zion, and that are in safety on the mount of Samaria, who are named the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!
Wehe den Sorglosen in Zion und den Sicheren auf dem Berge von Samaria, den Vornehmen [Eig. den Namhaften] der ersten der Nationen, zu welchen das Haus Israel kommt!
2 Pass ye over unto Calneh, and see; and go from there to Chamath-rabbah; then go down to Gath of the Philistines: whether they be better than these kingdoms? or whether their territory be greater than your territory?
Gehet hinüber nach Kalne [In Babylonien am Flusse Tigris gelegen] und sehet, und gehet von dort nach Hamath, der großen Stadt, und steiget hinab nach Gath der Philister: sind sie vorzüglicher als diese Königreiche, oder ist ihr Gebiet größer als euer Gebiet?
3 [Ye] that deem far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
ihr, die den Tag des Unglücks hinausschieben und den Thron der Gewalttat nahe rücken;
4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and are stretched out upon their couches, and eat lambs out of the flock, and calves out of the midst of the stall;
die auf Polstern von Elfenbein liegen und auf ihren Ruhebetten sich strecken, und Fettschafe von der Herde essen und Kälber aus dem Maststall;
5 That chant to the sound of the psaltery, and like David's do they imagine their instrument of music to be;
die da faseln zum Klange der Harfe, sich wie David Musikinstrumente ersinnen;
6 That drink out of wine-bowls, and anoint themselves with the costliest of ointments; but who feel no pain for the wound of Joseph.
die Wein aus Schalen trinken und mit den besten Ölen sich salben, und sich nicht grämen über die Wunde Josephs.
7 Therefore now shall they go into exile at the head of exiles, and the noisy banquet of those that were stretched out shall pass away.
Darum werden sie nun weggeführt werden an der Spitze der Weggeführten, und das Gejauchze der träge Hingestreckten wird aufhören.
8 The Lord Eternal hath sworn by his own existence, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the pride of Jacob, and his palaces do I hate: therefore will I surrender up [to the enemy] the city with all that filleth it.
Der Herr, Jehova, hat bei sich selbst geschworen, spricht Jehova, der Gott der Heerscharen: Ich verabscheue die Hoffart Jakobs und hasse seine Paläste; und ich werde die Stadt preisgeben und alles, was sie erfüllt.
9 And it shall come to pass, that if there remain ten men in one house, they shall die.
Und es wird geschehen, wenn zehn Männer in einem Hause übrigbleiben, so werden sie sterben.
10 And should a man's uncle or relative carry him forth, to bring out the bones out of the house, and say unto him that is in the recesses of the house, Is there yet any one with thee? he will say, There is no one left. Then will he say, Be silent; for we may not make mention of the name of the Lord.
Und hebt einen der Gestorbenen sein Oheim [d. i. sein naher Verwandter] und sein Bestatter [Eig. sein Verbrenner, weil die Toten so zahlreich sein werden, daß man sie verbrennen muß] auf, um die Gebeine aus dem Hause hinauszuschaffen, und spricht zu dem, der im Innern des Hauses ist: Ist noch jemand bei dir? und dieser sagt: Niemand; so wird er sagen: Still! denn der Name Jehovas darf nicht erwähnt werden.
11 For, behold, the Lord commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
Denn siehe, Jehova gebietet, und man schlägt das große Haus in Trümmer und das kleine Haus in Splitter [Eig. in Risse.]
12 Do horses ever run upon the rock? or will one plough there with oxen? that ye have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood;
Rennen wohl Rosse auf Felsen, oder pflügt man darauf mit Rindern? [And. l.: oder pflügt man das Meer mit dem Rinde?] daß ihr das Recht in Gift und die Frucht der Gerechtigkeit in Wermut verwandelt habt,
13 Ye who rejoice for a thing of naught, who say, Have we not through our own strength procured ourselves horns?
die ihr euch über Nichtiges freuet, die ihr sprechet: Haben wir uns nicht durch unsere Stärke Hörner [d. i. Macht] erworben?
14 For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts, and they shall oppress you from the entrance of Chamath unto the brook of the wilderness.
Denn siehe, ich werde wider euch, Haus Israel, eine Nation erwecken, spricht Jehova, der Gott der Heerscharen; und sie werden euch bedrücken von dem Eingange Hamaths an bis zum Bache der Ebene [O. Steppe, Hebr. Araba; d. h. wahrsch. bis zu dem Grenzflusse zwischen Moab und Edom. [Vergl. 2. Kön. 14,25].]
