2 Samuel 8
1 And it came to pass after this, that David smote the Philistines, and humbled them: and David took Metheg-haammah out of the hand of the Philistines.
Après cela il arriva que David battit les Philistins, et les abaissa, et David prit Methegamma de la main des Philistins.
2 And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, laying them down on the ground; and he measured with two lines to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became David's servants, bringing presents.
Il battit aussi les Moabites, et les mesura au cordeau, les faisant coucher par terre; et il en mesura deux cordeaux pour les faire mourir, et un plein cordeau pour leur sauver la vie; et [le pays] des Moabites fut à David sous cette condition, qu'ils lui seraient sujets et tributaires.
3 David smote also Hadad'ezer, the son of Rechob, the king of Zobah, as he went to extend his territory at the river Euphrates.
David battit aussi Hadadhézer fils de Réhob, Roi de Tsoba, comme il allait pour recouvrer ses limites sur le fleuve d'Euphrate.
4 And David captured from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand men on foot: and David hamstringed all the chariot-teams, but reserved of them a hundred chariot-teams.
Et David lui prit mille et sept cents hommes de cheval, et vingt mille hommes de pied, et coupa les jarrets [des chevaux] de tous les chariots, mais il en réserva cent chariots.
5 And the Syrians of Damascus then came to aid Hadad'ezer, the king of Zobah, when David slew of the Syrians twenty and two thousand men.
Car les Syriens de Damas étaient venus pour donner du secours à Hadadhézer Roi de Tsoba; et David battit vingt-deux mille Syriens.
6 And David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, bearing presents. And the Lord helped David whithersoever he went.
Puis David mit garnison en Syrie de Damas, et [le pays] de ces Syriens fut à David sous cette condition, qu'ils lui seraient sujets et tributaires; et l'Eternel gardait David partout où il allait.
7 And David took the shields of gold that belonged to the servants of Hadad'ezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
Et David prit les boucliers d'or qui étaient aux serviteurs de Hadadhézer, et les apporta à Jérusalem.
8 And from Betach, and from Berothai, cities of Hadad'ezer, did king David take exceedingly much copper.
Le Roi David emporta aussi une grande quantité d'airain de Bétah, et de Bérothaï, villes de Hadadhézer.
9 And when To'i the king of Chamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadad'ezer,
Or Tohi, Roi de Hamath, apprit que David avait défait toutes les forces de Hadadhézer.
10 Then did To'i send Yoram his son unto king David, to ask him after his well-being, and to bless him, because that he had fought against Hadad'ezer, and smitten him; for Hadad'ezer had been engaged in wars with To'i; and he had in his hand vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of copper:
Et il envoya Joram son fils vers le Roi David, pour le saluer, et le féliciter de ce qu'il avait fait la guerre contre Hadadhézer, et de ce qu'il l'avait défait; car Hadadhézer était en guerre continuellement avec Tohi, et [Joram] apporta des vaisseaux d'argent, et des vaisseaux d'or, et des vaisseaux d'airain;
11 These also did king David sanctify unto the Lord, with the silver and gold that he had sanctified from all the nations which he subdued;
Lesquels David consacra à l'Eternel avec l'argent et l'or qu'il avait [déjà] consacrés [du butin] de toutes les nations qu'il s'était assujetties;
12 From Syria, and from Moab, and from the children of 'Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from 'Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadad'ezer, the son of Rechob, the king of Zobah.
De Syrie, de Moab, des enfants de Hammon, des Philistins, de Hamalec, et du butin de Hadadhézer, fils de Réhob, Roi de Tsoba.
13 And David acquired a name when he returned from his smiting the Syrians in the valley of salt, eighteen thousand men.
David s'acquit aussi [une grande] réputation de ce qu'en retournant de la défaite des Syriens, [il tailla en pièces] dans la vallée du sel dix-huit mille Iduméens.
14 And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And the Lord helped David whithersoever he went.
Et il mit garnison dans l'Idumée, il mit, dis-je, garnison dans toute l'Idumée; et tous les Iduméens furent assujettis à David; et l'Eternel gardait David partout où il allait.
15 And David reigned over all Israel; and David did what is just and right unto all his people.
Ainsi David régna sur tout Israël, faisant droit et justice à tout son peuple.
16 And Joab the son of Zeruyah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Achilud was recorder;
Et Joab fils de Tséruja avait la charge de l'armée; et Jéhosaphat fils d'Ahilud, était commis sur les registres.
17 And Zadok the son of Achitub, and Achimelech the son of Ebyathar, were priests; and Serayah was scribe;
Et Tsadok fils d'Ahitub, et Ahimélec fils d'Abiathar étaient les Sacrificateurs, et Séraja était le Secrétaire.
18 And Banayahu the son of Yehoyada' was over both the Kerethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were officers of state.
Et Bénaja fils de Jéhojadah était sur les Kéréthiens et les Péléthiens; et les fils de David étaient les principaux Officiers.
