2 Samuel 20
1 And there happened to be a worthless man, whose name was Sheba', the son of Bichri, a Benjamite; and he blew the cornet, and said, We have no part in David, nor have we any inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel!
Il arriva aussi que là était un homme de Bélial, du nom de Séba, fils de Bochri, homme de Jémini, et il sonna de la trompette, et dit: Nous n’avons point de part avec David, ni d’héritage avec le fils d’Isaï; retourne en tes tabernacles, ô Israël.
2 So every man of Israel went off from David, following Sheba' the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah adhered unto their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
Et tout Israël se sépara de David, et suivit Séba, fils de Bochri; mais les hommes de Juda restèrent près de leur roi, depuis le Jourdain jusqu’à Jérusalem.
3 And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women, the concubines, whom he had left to guard the house, and put them in a guard-house, and provided for them, but went not in unto them. So they were confined until the day of their death, living in widowhood.
Et lorsque le roi fut venu en sa maison à Jérusalem, il prit les dix femmes qu’il avait laissées pour garder la maison, les donna en garde, leur fournissant les aliments; et il ne s’approcha plus d’elles: mais elles étaient enfermées jusqu’au jour de leur mort, vivant en veuves.
4 Then said the king to 'Amassa, Call together for me the men of Judah within three days, and thou present thyself here [then].
Or, le roi dit à Amasa: Appelle près de moi tous les hommes de Juda pour le troisième jour, et toi, sois présent.
5 So 'Amassa went to call Judah together; but he remained out longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
Amasa donc s’en alla pour appeler Juda, et il tarda au-delà de l’ordre que lui avait donné le roi.
6 And David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba' the son of Bichri do us more harm than [did] Abshalom: take thou the servants of thy Lord, and pursue after him, lest he succeed in reaching fortified cities, and withdraw himself from our eyes.
Or David dit à Abisaï: Maintenant Séba, fils de Bochri, nous affligera plus qu’Absalom: prends donc les serviteurs de ton seigneur, et poursuis-le, de peur qu’il ne trouve des villes fortifiées, et qu’il ne nous échappe.
7 And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: and they went forth out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba' the son of Bichri.
Les hommes de Joab sortirent donc avec lui, les Céréthiens aussi et les Phélétiens; et tous les hommes vigoureux sortirent de Jérusalem pour poursuivre Séba, fils de Bochri.
8 They were close by the great stone which is at Gib'on, as 'Amassa came before them. And Joab was girded with his coat, his [usual] garment, and upon it the girdle of the sword which was fastened upon his loins in its sheath; and as he went forth it fell out.
Et lorsqu’ils furent près de la grande pierre qui est à Gabaon, Amasa, venant, les rencontra. Or, Joab était vêtu d’une tunique étroite, selon la mesure de son habit, et par-dessus ceint d’un glaive pendant à ses côtés dans son fourreau, et fait de manière qu’il pouvait par un léger mouvement sortir et frapper.
9 And Joab said to 'Amassa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab's right hand took hold of 'Amassa's beard to kiss him.
C’est pourquoi Joab dit à Amasa: Salut, mon frère. Et de sa main droite, il prit le menton d’Amasa, comme pour le baiser.
10 And 'Amassa did not guard himself against the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. But Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba' the son of Bichri.
Or Amasa ne prit point garde au glaive qu’avait Joab, qui le frappa dans le côté, et répandit ses entrailles sur la terre; et il ne le frappa point d’un second coup, et Amasa mourut. Ensuite Joab et Abisaï son frère poursuivirent Séba, fils de Bochri.
11 And one man of Joab's people remained standing by him, and said, He that favoreth Joab, and he that is for David, follow Joab.
Cependant quelques hommes des compagnons de Joab, s’étant arrêtés près du cadavre d’Amasa, dirent: Voilà celui qui a voulu être de la suite de David à la place de Joab.
12 And 'Amassa was wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he put 'Amassa aside out of the highway into the field, and threw a garment over him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.
Et Amasa, couvert de sang, gisait au milieu de la voie. Mais un certain homme vit que tout le peuple s’arrêtait pour le voir; il poussa Amasa de la voie dans le champ, et le couvrit d’un vêtement, afin que les passants ne s’arrêtassent pas à cause de lui.
13 When he was removed out of the highway, every man passed on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba' the son of Bichri.
Amasa donc ôté de la voie, tout homme passait, suivant Joab, pour poursuivre Séba, fils de Bochri.
14 And this one passed through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, which is of Beth-ma'achah, and all the Berim: and they assembled themselves together, and went also after him.
Mais celui-ci avait passé à travers toutes les tribus d’Israël, à Abéla et à Bethmaacha; et tous les hommes choisis s’étaient assemblés auprès de lui.
15 And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-ma'achah, and they cast up a trench against the city, and it stood enclosed by the troops: and all the people that were with Joab were battering to throw down the wall.
C’est pourquoi Joab et les siens vinrent, et l’assiégèrent à Abéla et à Bethmaacha; et ils environnèrent la ville de fortifications, et la ville fut investie: or, toute la multitude qui était avec Joab s’efforçait de détruire les murs.
16 Then called a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear: say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near as far as hither, that I may speak with thee.
Et une femme sage de la ville s’écria: Ecoutez, écoutez; dites à Joab: Approche-toi d’ici, et je te parlerai.
17 And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he said, I am. Then said she unto him, Hear the words of thy hand-maid. And he said, I do hear.
Lorsque Joab se fut approché d’elle, elle lui dit: C’est toi qui es Joab? Et celui-ci répondit: Moi. Elle lui parla ainsi: Ecoute les paroles de ta servante. Joab répondit: J’écoute.
18 Then said she, thus, They ought surely first to have spoken, saying, “Let them ask at least in Abel:” and so would they have come to an end.
Et elle de nouveau: Ce mot, dit-elle, se disait dans un ancien proverbe: Ceux qui interrogent, qu’ils interrogent à Abéla; et c’est ainsi qu’ils arrivaient au but.
19 I am one of the peaceful and faithful [cities] in Israel; thou seekest to overthrow a city and a metropolis in Israel: why wilt thou destroy the inheritance of the Lord?
N’est-ce pas moi qui réponds la vérité en Israël, et toi, tu demandes à bouleverser une cité, et à détruire une mère en Israël? Pourquoi renverses-tu l’héritage du Seigneur?
20 And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should destroy or ruin.
Et répondant, Joab dit: Loin de moi, loin de moi cela! je ne renverse, ni ne démolis.
21 The matter is not so; but a man from the mountains of Ephraim, Sheba' the son of Bichri is his name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, against David: give him up alone, and I will withdraw from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be cast down to thee over the wall.
La chose n’est pas ainsi; mais un homme de la montagne d’Ephraïm, Séba, fils de Bochri par son surnom, a levé sa main contre le roi David: livrez-le seul, et nous nous retirerons de la ville. Et la femme dit à Joab: Voilà que sa tête te sera envoyée par-dessus le mur.
22 And the woman came unto all the people with her wisdom; and they cut off the head of Sheba' the son of Bichri, and cast it down to Joab: and he blew the cornet, and they scattered themselves from the city, every man to his tents. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.
Elle s’avança donc vers tout le peuple, et parla sagement; et ayant coupé la tête de Séba, fils de Bochri, ils la jetèrent à Joab. Et celui-ci sonna de la trompette, et ils se retirèrent de la ville, chacun en ses tabernacles; mais Joab retourna à Jérusalem près du roi.
23 Now Joab was over all the army of Israel; and Benayah the son of Yehoyada' was over the Kerethites and over the Pelethites;
Joab donc fut chef de toute l’armée d’Israël, mais Banaïas, fils de Joïada, des Céréthiens et des Phéléthiens,
24 And Adoram was over the tribute; and Jehoshaphat the son of Achilud was recorder;
Et Aduram, des tributs; et Josaphat, fils d’Ahilud, tenait les registres.
25 And Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Ebyathar were priests;
Siva était scribe, et Sadoc et Abiathar, prêtres.
26 And 'Ira also the Yairite was an officer of state unto David.
Mais Ira, le Jaïrite, était prêtre de David.
