2 Samuel 2
1 And it came to pass after this, that David asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into one of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
Or il arriva après cela que David consulta l'Eternel, en disant: Monterai-je en quelqu'une des villes de Juda? Et l'Eternel lui répondit: Monte. Et David dit: En laquelle monterai-je? Il répondit: A Hébron.
2 So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Achino'am the Yizre'elitess, and Abigayil, Nabal's wife, the Carmelite.
David donc monta là avec ses deux femmes, Ahinoham qui était de Jizréhel, et Abigal, [qui avait été] femme de Nabal, lequel était de Carmel.
3 And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household; and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
David fit remonter aussi les hommes qui étaient avec lui, chacun avec sa famille, et ils demeurèrent dans les villes de Hébron.
4 And then came the men of Judah, and they anointed there David as king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, The men of Yabesh-gil'ad were those that buried Saul.
Et ceux de Juda vinrent, et oignirent là David pour Roi sur la maison de Juda. Et on fit rapport à David; en disant: Les hommes de Jabés de Galaad ont enseveli Saül.
5 And David thereupon sent messengers unto the men of Yabesh-gil'ad, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have done this kindness unto your Lord, unto Saul, and have buried him.
Et David envoya des messagers vers les hommes de Jabés de Galaad, et leur fit dire: Bénis soyez-vous de l'Eternel de ce que vous avez fait cette gratuité à Saül votre Seigneur, que de l'avoir enseveli.
6 And now may the Lord deal with you in kindness and truth: and as for me also, I will requite you this good deed, because ye have done this thing.
Que maintenant donc l'Eternel veuille user envers vous de gratuité, et de vérité; de ma part aussi je vous ferai du bien, parce que vous avez fait cela.
7 And now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant men; for your lord Saul is dead; and also me have the house of Judah anointed as king over them.
Et que maintenant vos mains se fortifient, et soyez hommes de cœur; car Saül votre Seigneur est mort, et la maison de Juda m'a oint pour être Roi sur eux.
8 But Abner, the son of Ner, the captain of the army of Saul, took Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Machanayim;
Mais Abner fils de Ner, chef de l'armée de Saül, prit Is-boseth fils de Saül, et le fit passer à Mahanajim;
9 And made him king over Gil'ad, and over the Ashurites, and over Yizre'el, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.
Et l'établit Roi sur Galaad, et sur les Asuriens, et sur Jizréhel, et sur Ephraïm, et sur Benjamin; même sur tout Israël.
10 Forty years old was Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, when he became king over Israel, and two years he reigned. But the house of Judah followed David.
Is-boseth fils de Saül était âgé de quarante ans quand il commença à régner sur Israël, et il régna deux ans. Il n'y avait que la maison de Juda qui suivît David.
11 And the number of days that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
Et le nombre des jours que David régna à Hébron sur la maison de Juda, fut de sept ans et six mois.
12 And there went out Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, from Machanayim to Gib'on.
Or Abner fils de Ner, et les gens d'Is-boseth fils de Saül, sortirent de Mahanajim, vers Gabaon.
13 And Joab the son of Zeruyah and the servants of David also went out, and they met together by the pool of Gib'on: and they sat down, these on the one side of the pool, and the others on the other side of the pool.
Joab aussi fils de Tséruja, et les gens de David sortirent, et ils se rencontrèrent les uns les autres près de l'étang de Gabaon; et les uns se tenaient auprès de l'étang du côté de deçà, et les autres auprès de l'étang du côté de delà.
14 And Abner said to Joab, Do let the young men rise up and play before us. And Joab said, They may rise up.
Alors Abner dit à Joab: Que quelques-uns de ces jeunes gens se lèvent maintenant, et qu'ils escarmouchent devant nous. Et Joab dit: Qu'ils se lèvent.
15 Then they rose up and went over by number: twelve for Benjamin, and for Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
Ils se levèrent donc, et on en compta douze de Benjamin pour le parti d'Is-boseth fils de Saül; et douze des gens de David.
16 And they grasped every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow's side; and they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Chelkath-hazzurim, which is by Gib'on.
Alors chacun d'eux empoignant son homme lui passa son épée dans les flancs, et ils tombèrent tous ensemble; et ce lieu-là fut appelé Helkath-hatsurim, qui est en Gabaon.
17 And the battle was exceedingly fierce on that day; and Abner with the men of Israel was beaten, before the servants of David.
Et il y eut en ce jour-là un très-rude combat, dans lequel Abner fut battu avec ceux d'Israël par les gens de David.
18 And there were at that place three sons of Zeruyah, Joab, and Abishai, and 'Asahel: and 'Asahel was as fleet of foot as any roe in the field.
Les trois fils de Tséruja, Joab, Abisaï, et Hasaël étaient là. Et Hasaël était léger du pied comme un chevreuil [qui est] par les champs.
19 And 'Asahel pursued after Abner; and he turned not in going to the right hand or to the left from following Abner.
Et Hasaël poursuivit Abner, sans se détourner à droite ni à gauche d'après Abner.
20 And Abner turned round and said, Art thou 'Asahel? And he answered, I am.
Abner donc regardant derrière soi, dit: Es-tu Hasaël? et [Hasaël] répondit: Je le suis.
21 And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay hold for thyself on one of the young men, and take thyself his armor. But 'Asahel would not turn aside from following him.
Et Abner lui dit: Détourne-toi à droite ou à gauche, et saisis-toi de l'un de ces jeunes gens, et prends sa dépouille pour toi. Mais Hasaël ne voulut point se détourner de lui.
22 And Abner repeated again to say unto 'Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? and how should I then lift up my face to Joab thy brother?
Et Abner continuait à dire à Hasaël: Détourne-toi de moi; pourquoi te jetterais-je mort par terre? et comment oserais-je paraître devant Joab ton frère?
23 But he refused to turn aside; and Abner smote him with the hinder end of the spear under the fifth rib, so that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died on the spot: and it came to pass, that all who came to the place where 'Asahel had fallen down and died remained standing still.
Mais il ne voulut jamais se détourner; et Abner le frappa de sa hallebarde à la cinquième côte du bout de derrière, tellement que sa hallebarde lui sortait par derrière, et il tomba là roide mort sur la place; et tous ceux qui venaient à l'endroit où Hasaël était tombé mort, s'arrêtaient.
24 But Joab and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giach on the way to the wilderness of Gib'on.
Joab donc et Abisaï poursuivirent Abner, et le soleil se coucha quand ils arrivèrent au coteau d'Amma, qui est vis-à-vis de Gujah, au chemin du désert de Gabaon.
25 And the children of Benjamin assembled themselves together behind Abner, and formed one solid body, and posted themselves on the top of a certain hill.
Et les enfants de Benjamin s'assemblèrent auprès d'Abner, se rangèrent en un bataillon, et se tinrent sur le sommet d'un coteau.
26 And Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall for everlasting the sword devour? knowest thou not that it will be bitter in the end? and how long shall it be, ere thou wilt bid the people to return from pursuing their brethren?
Alors Abner cria à Joab, et dit: L'épée dévorera-t-elle sans cesse? ne sais-tu pas bien que l'amertume est à la fin; et jusqu'à quand différeras-tu de dire au peuple, qu'il cesse de poursuivre ses frères?
27 And Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then already in the morning would the people have gone away every one from pursuing his brother.
Et Joab dit: Dieu est vivant, que si tu avais parlé ainsi, le peuple se serait retiré dès le matin chacun arrière de son frère.
28 So Joab blew the cornet, and all the people remained standing still, and pursued no more after Israel, and they continued no more to fight.
Joab donc sonna de la trompette et tout le peuple s'arrêta, ils ne poursuivirent plus Israël, et ils ne continuèrent plus à se battre.
29 And Abner and his men walked through the plain all that night, and they passed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Machanayim.
Ainsi Abner et ses gens marchèrent toute cette nuit-là par la campagne, traversèrent le Jourdain, passèrent par tout Bithron, et arrivèrent à Mahanajim.
30 And Joab returned from pursuing Abner; and he gathered all the people together; and there were missed of David's servants nineteen men and 'Asahel.
Joab aussi revint de la poursuite d'Abner; et quand il eut assemblé tout le peuple, on trouva qu'il en manquait dix-neuf des gens de David, et Hasaël.
31 But the servants of David had smitten [many] of Benjamin, and of Abner's men: three hundred and sixty men died.
Mais les gens de David frappèrent de ceux de Benjamin, [savoir] des gens d'Abner, trois cent soixante hommes qui moururent.
32 And they took up 'Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Beth-lechem. And Joab and his men went all that night, and the day broke on them at Hebron.
Et ils enlevèrent Hasaël, et l'ensevelirent au sépulcre de son père, à Bethléhem; et toute cette nuit-là Joab et ses gens marchèrent et arrivèrent à Hébron sur le point du jour.
