2 Samuel 12
1 And the Lord sent Nathan unto David, and he came unto him and said to him, Two men were once in one city, the one rich and the other poor.
Yahvé envió entonces a Natán, el cual llegó a David y le dijo: “Había en una ciudad dos hombres, el uno rico y el otro pobre.
2 The rich man had flocks and herds, in great abundance.
El rico tenía ovejas y ganado mayor en grandísimo número,
3 But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe, which he had bought; and he nourished it, and it grew up with him and with his children together; of his bread it used to eat, and out of his cup it used to drink, and in his bosom it used to lie, and it was to him as a daughter.
el pobre, en cambio, no tenía más que una ovejita, que había comprado y criado, y la cual había crecido juntamente con él y con sus hijos, comiendo de su bocado y bebiendo de su copa y durmiendo en su seno; y era para él como una hija.
4 And there came a traveler unto the rich man; and he felt compunction to take from his own flocks and from his own herds to dress for the wayfarer that was come to him; but he took the ewe of the poor man, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
Mas llegó un viajero al hombre rico, y este, no queriendo tocar a sus ovejas ni a sus bueyes para aderezarlos al viajero que le había llegado, tomó la ovejita del hombre pobre y la aderezó para el hombre que había venido a su casa.”
5 And the anger of David was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, surely the man that hath done this deserveth to die;
Se irritó David fuertemente contra aquel hombre y dijo a Natán: “¡Vive Yahvé que el hombre que ha hecho esto es digno de muerte!
6 And the ewe he shall pay fourfold, for punishment that he hath done this thing, and because he had no compassion.
Restituirá la oveja cuatro veces, por haber hecho esto y no haber tenido piedad.”
7 Then said Nathan to David, Thou art the man! Thus hath said the Lord, the God of Israel, It is I who anointed thee as king over Israel, and it is I who delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
Dijo entonces Natán a David: “Ese hombre eres tú. Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: «Yo te ungí rey sobre Israel y te libré de la mano de Saúl;
8 And I gave unto thee the house of thy master, and [put] the wives of thy master into thy bosom, and gave unto thee the house of Israel and Judah: and if this be too little, I could bestow on thee yet many more like these things.
te di la casa de tu señor y he puesto en tu seno las mujeres de tu señor; te he dado también la casa de Israel y de Judá; y si esto te parece poco, te daré por añadidura aún cosas mayores.
9 Wherefore hast thou despised the word of the Lord to do what is evil in his eyes? Uriyah the Hittite hast thou smitten with the sword, and his wife hast thou taken unto thee for wife; but him hast thou slain with the sword of the children of 'Ammon.
¿Por qué, pues, has vilipendiado el mandamiento de Yahvé, haciendo lo que es malo a sus ojos? Has matado a espada a Urías, el heteo, y has tomado a su mujer por mujer tuya, hiriéndole a él con la espada de los hijos de Ammón.
10 And now, the sword shall not depart from thy house for ever; for the reason that thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriyah the Hittite to be thy wife.
Por eso nunca se apartará la espada de tu casa; pues me has despreciado, tomando a la mujer de Urías, el heteo, para que sea mujer tuya.»
11 Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will raise up against thee evil out of thy own house, and I will take away thy wives before thy eyes, and I will give them unto thy neighbor; and he shall lie with thy wives before the face of this sun.
Así dice Yahvé: «He aquí que Yo suscitaré desgracias contra ti de entre tu misma familia. Quitaré tus mujeres ante tus mismos ojos y se las daré a tu prójimo, el cual se acostará con ellas a la luz de este sol.
12 For thou hast done it in secret; but I will surely do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
Tú lo has hecho en secreto, pero Yo haré esto a vista de todo Israel y a la luz del sol».”
13 Then said David unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David, Also the Lord hath caused thy sin to pass away: thou shalt not die.
Dijo entonces David a Natán: “He pecado contra Yahvé.” Y respondió Natán a David: “Yahvé, por su parte ha perdonado tu pecado; no morirás.
14 Nevertheless, because thou hast given great cause to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme through this thing, the child also that hath been born unto thee shall surely die.
Pero puesto que con esta acción has dado a los enemigos de Yahvé ocasión de blasfemar, por eso el niño que te ha nacido morirá irremisiblemente.”
15 And Nathan went to his house; and the Lord struck the child that Uriyah's wife had born unto David, that it became very sick.
Con esto Natán se fue a su casa, y Yahvé hirió al niño que la mujer de Urías había dado a David, de modo que enfermó gravemente.
16 And David besought God in behalf of the lad; and David kept a fast, and came home, and lay over night upon the earth.
David rogó a Dios por el niño y ayunó rigurosamente; y retirándose pasaba las noches acostado en tierra.
17 And the elders of the house arose about him, to raise him up from the earth; but he would not, and he did not partake of any bread with them.
Los ancianos de su casa le instaron para obligarle a que se levantase de la tierra; pero él no quiso hacerlo ni tomar con ellos alimento.
18 And it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died; and the servants of David were afraid to tell him, that the child was dead; for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he would not hearken to our voice: how then shall we say to him, The child is dead! he might do [himself] a hurt.
Al séptimo día murió el niño; mas los siervos de David no se atrevían a darle la noticia de que había muerto el niño, porque decían: “Si cuando aún vivía el niño le hablábamos y él no quería escuchar nuestra voz, ¿cómo podemos decirle que el niño ha muerto? ¿No le causará daño?”
19 But when David saw that his servants were whispering to each other, David understood that the child was dead; wherefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? and they said, he is dead.
Pero David, al ver que sus siervos cuchicheaban entre sí, conoció que el niño había muerto, por lo cual dijo a sus siervos: “¿Ha muerto el niño?” Y ellos respondieron: “Ha muerto.”
20 David then rose up from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his garments, and went into the house of the Lord and prostrated himself; and then he came to his own house, and asked that they should set food before him, and he ate.
Entonces se levantó David del suelo, se lavó y se ungió, y después de mudarse las ropas fue a la Casa de Yahvé y se prosternó. Luego vuelto a su casa pidió que le sirvieran la comida y comió.
21 And his servants then said unto him, What is this thing which thou hast done? On account of the child when living thou didst fast and weep; but as soon as the child was dead thou didst arise and eat bread!
Preguntáronle sus siervos: “¿Qué es esto que estás haciendo? Cuando el niño aún vivía, ayunabas y llorabas; y ahora que el niño ha muerto te levantas y comes pan.”
22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; because I said, Who knoweth, but that the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
A lo que respondió: “Yo ayunaba y lloraba por el niño cuando aún vivía, pues decía: «¿Quién sabe si Yahvé no tendrá piedad de mí, y el niño quedará con vida?»
23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast then? can I restore him again? I am going to him; but he will not return to me.
Mas ahora que ha muerto, ¿para qué he de ayunar? ¿Podré acaso restituirle la vida? Yo iré a él, pero él no vendrá más a mí.”
24 And David comforted Bath-sheba' his wife, and he went in unto her, and lay with her; and she bore a son, and called his name Solomon; and the Lord loved him.
Luego consoló David a Betsabee, su mujer, y entrado donde ella estaba se llegó a ella; la cual le dio un hijo, al que puso por nombre Salomón. Y Yahvé le amó,
25 And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and called his name, Yedideyah in behalf of the Lord.
y envió al profeta Natán, que le dio el nombre de Yedidyá, por amor de Yahvé.
26 And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of 'Ammon, and captured the royal city.
Entretanto Joab prosiguió la guerra contra Rabbá de los ammonitas, y tomó la ciudad real.
27 And Joab sent messengers to David; and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have also captured the water-town.
Envió, pues, Joab mensajeros a David que dijeran: “He atacado a Rabbá y he tomado la ciudad de las aguas.
28 And now gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and capture it: lest I capture the city myself, and it be called by my name.
Junta, pues, ahora el resto del pueblo y ven a acampar contra la ciudad para tomarla, no sea que tome yo la ciudad y tenga el honor de la victoria.”
29 And David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and captured it.
Entonces David juntó todo el pueblo y marchó a Rabbá; la atacó y se apoderó de ella.
30 And he took the crown of Malkam from off his head, and its weight was a talent of gold, and [on it was] a precious stone, and it was set on the head of David; and the booty of the city he brought out in great abundance.
Y quitó de la cabeza de su rey la corona, que pesaba un talento de oro y tenía una piedra preciosa. Esta fue puesta en la cabeza de David, el cual tomó de la ciudad un botín muy grande.
31 And the people that were therein he brought forward, and put them under saws, and under iron threshing-wagons, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through brick-kilns; and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of 'Ammon: and David returned with them with all the people unto Jerusalem.
Sacó también a los habitantes de la misma y los puso a las sierras, a los picos de hierro y a las hachas de hierro, y los llevó a los hornos de ladrillos. Lo mismo hizo con todas las ciudades de los hijos de Ammón. Después volvió David con toda la gente a Jerusalén.
