2 Kings 7
1 Then said Elisha', Hear ye the word of the Lord: Thus hath said the Lord, About this time tomorrow a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
Allora Eliseo disse: “Ascoltate la parola dell’Eterno! Così dice l’Eterno: Domani, a quest’ora, alla porta di Samaria, la misura di fior di farina si avrà per un siclo, e le due misure d’orzo si avranno per un siclo”.
2 Then answered the lord of the king, on whose hand he used to lean, the man of God, and said, Behold, will the Lord make windows in the heavens, that this thing shall be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thy eyes, but thereof shalt thou not eat.
Ma il capitano sul cui braccio il re s’appoggiava, rispose all’uomo di Dio: “Ecco, anche se l’Eterno facesse delle finestre in cielo, potrebbe mai avvenire una cosa siffatta?” Eliseo rispose: “Ebbene, lo vedrai con gli occhi tuoi, ma non ne mangerai”.
3 And there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate: and they said one to another, Why do we remain here until we die?
Or v’erano quattro lebbrosi presso all’entrata della porta, i quali dissero tra di loro: “Perché vogliam noi restar qui finché moriamo?
4 If we say, We will enter into the city, then is the famine in the city, and we shall die there; and if we remain here, we die [also]: now therefore come, and let us go over unto the camp of the Syrians; if they will let us live, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.
Se diciamo: Entriamo in città in città c’è la fame, e noi vi morremo; se restiamo qui, morremo lo stesso. Or dunque venite, andiamoci a buttare nel campo dei Siri; se ci lascian vivere, vivremo; se ci dànno la morte, morremo”.
5 And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians; and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no man there.
E, sull’imbrunire, si mossero per andare al campo dei Siri; e come furon giunti all’estremità del campo dei Siri, ecco che non v’era alcuno.
6 For the Lord had caused the camp of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, the noise of a large army: and they said one to the other, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.
Il Signore avea fatto udire nel campo dei Siri un rumor di carri, un rumor di cavalli, un rumor di grande esercito, sì che i Siri avean detto fra di loro: “Ecco, il re d’Israele ha assoldato contro di noi i re degli Hittei e i re degli Egiziani, perché vengano ad assalirci”.
7 And they were arisen and fled in the twilight, and had left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
E s’eran levati, ed eran fuggiti sull’imbrunire, abbandonando le loro tende, i loro cavalli, i loro asini, e il campo così com’era; eran fuggiti per salvarsi la vita.
8 And so came these lepers to the uttermost part of the camp, and they went into one tent, and ate and drank, and carried away thence silver, and gold, and garments, and went and hid them; and they returned, and entered into another tent, and carried away [something] thence, and went and hid it.
Que’ lebbrosi, giunti che furono all’estremità del campo, entrarono in una tenda, mangiarono, bevvero, e portaron via argento, oro, vesti, e andarono a nascondere ogni cosa. Poi tornarono, entrarono in un’altra tenda, e anche di là portaron via roba, che andarono a nascondere.
9 And then they said one to the other, We do not act correctly; this day is a day of good tidings; and if we remain silent, and tarry till the morning-light, we shall incur guilt: now then come, and let us go and tell it at the king's house.
Ma poi dissero fra di loro: “Noi non facciamo bene; questo è giorno di buone novelle, e noi ci tacciamo! Se aspettiamo finché si faccia giorno, sarem tenuti per colpevoli. Or dunque venite, andiamo ad informare la casa del re”.
10 So they went and called unto one of the gate-keepers of the city, and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, nor the voice of man; but the horses were tied, and the asses were tied, and the tents as they had been.
Così partirono, chiamarono i guardiani della porta di città, e li informarono della cosa, dicendo: “Siamo andati al campo dei Siri, ed ecco che non v’è alcuno, né vi s’ode voce d’uomo; non vi son che i cavalli attaccati, gli asini attaccati, e le tende intatte”.
11 And he called the gate-keepers; and they told it at the king's house within.
Allora i guardiani chiamarono, e fecero saper la cosa alla gente del re dentro il palazzo.
12 And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I can easily tell you what the Syrians have done to us: they know that we are hungry; and they are therefore gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, If they should come out of the city, we will catch them alive, and enter into the city.
E il re si levò nella notte, e disse ai suoi servi: “Vi voglio dire io quel che ci hanno fatto i Siri. Sanno che patiamo la fame; sono quindi usciti dal campo a nascondersi per la campagna, dicendo: Come usciranno dalla città, li prenderemo vivi, ed entreremo nella città”.
13 And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, let it fare with them as with all the multitude of Israel that are left in it, [or] let it fare with them as with all the multitude of Israel that have perished: and let us send out and see.
Uno de’ suoi servi gli rispose: “Ti prego, si prendan cinque de’ cavalli che rimangono ancora nella città guardate! son come tutta la moltitudine d’Israele che v’è rimasta; son come tutta la moltitudine d’Israele che va in consunzione! e mandiamo a vedere di che si tratta”.
14 And they took two chariots with horses; and the king sent after the camp of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.
Presero dunque due carri coi loro cavalli, e il re mandò degli uomini in traccia dell’esercito dei Siri, dicendo: “Andate e vedete”.
15 And they went after them as far as the Jordan; and, lo, the whole way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste: and the messengers returned, and told it to the king.
E quelli andarono in traccia de’ Siri, fino al Giordano; ed ecco, tutta la strada era piena di vesti e gli oggetti, che i Siri avean gettati via nella loro fuga precipitosa. E i messi tornarono e riferiron tutto al re.
16 And the people went out, and plundered the camp of the Syrians: and a seah of fine flour was to be had for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.
Allora il popolo uscì fuori, e saccheggiò il campo dei Siri; e una misura di fior di farina si ebbe per un siclo e due misure d’orzo per un siclo, secondo la parola dell’Eterno.
17 And the king had appointed the lord on whose hand he used to lean to have the charge of the gate; and the people trod him down in the gate, and he died; as the man of God had spoken, which he spoke when the king came down to him.
Il re aveva affidato la guardia della porta al capitano sul cui braccio s’appoggiava; ma questo capitano fu calpestato dalla folla presso la porta e morì, come avea detto l’uomo di Dio, quando avea parlato al re ch’era sceso a trovarlo.
18 And it came to pass as the man of God was speaking to the king, saying, Two seahs of barley for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, shall be about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria:
Difatti, quando l’uomo di Dio avea parlato al re dicendo: “Domani, a quest’ora, alla porta di Samaria, due misure d’orzo s’avranno per un siclo e una misura di fior di farina per un siclo”,
19 That the Lord had answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if even the Lord were to make windows in the heavens, would such a thing be? And he had said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thy eyes, but thereof shalt thou not eat.
quel capitano avea risposto all’uomo di Dio e gli avea detto: “Ecco, anche se l’Eterno facesse delle finestre in cielo, potrebbe mai avvenire una cosa siffatta?” Ed Eliseo gli avea detto: “Ebbene, lo vedrai con gli occhi tuoi, ma non ne mangerai”.
20 And it happened unto him so; for the people trod him down in the gate, and he died.
E così gli avvenne: fu calpestato dalla folla presso la porta, e morì.
