2 Kings 17
1 In the twelfth year of Achaz the king of Judah became Hoshea' the son of Elah king in Samaria over Israel, [for] nine years.
En la douzième année du règne d'Achaz, en Juda, Osée, fils d'Ela, commença en Samarie, sur Israël, un règne de neuf ans.
2 And he did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, but not like the kings of Israel that were before him.
Et il fit le mal aux yeux du Seigneur, mais non comme les rois d'Israël qui avaient existé avant lui.
3 Against him came up Shalmanesser, the king of Assyria; and Hoshea' became his servant, and rendered him tribute.
Salmanasar, roi des Assyriens, marcha contre lui; Osée lui fut asservi, et il lui paya un tribut.
4 And the king of Assyria discovered a conspiracy on Hoshea'; for he had sent messengers to So the king of Egypt, and had raised no tribute for the king of Assyria, as [before] year by year; and the king of Assyria made him prisoner, and shut him up in a prison-house.
Ensuite, Salmanasar trouva en Osée une iniquité, en ce qu'il avait envoyé des messagers à Ségor, roi d'Égypte, et n'avait point payé cette année-là le tribut au roi des Assyriens; et celui-ci l'assiégea et le jeta, enchaîné, dans une prison.
5 And the king of Assyria came up over all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.
Puis, il parcourut toute la terre d'Israël, et monta à Samarie, qu'il assiégea trois ans.
6 In the ninth year of Hoshea' did the king of Assyria capture Samaria, and he led Israel away as exiles into Assyria, and settled them in Chalach and in Chabor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of Media.
Ce fut en la neuvième année du règne d'Osée, que Salmanasar prit Samarie, et transporta Israël en Assyrie, où il l'établit en Hala, en Habor, sur le fleuve Gozan, et sur les montagnes des Mèdes.
7 This took place, because the children of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
Et cela arriva, parce que les fils d'Israël avaient péché contre le Seigneur leur Dieu, qui les avait tirés de l'Égypte, et délivrés des mains du roi Pharaon; parce qu'ils avaient craint d'autres dieux.
8 And had walked in the customs of the nations whom the Lord had driven out from before the children of Israel, and in those of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
Car ils avaient marché dans les voies des nations que le Seigneur avait exterminées devant les fils d'Israël, et dans celles des rois d'Israël qui avaient fait de tels péchés,
9 And [because] the children of Israel had secretly done things that are not right against the Lord their God, and had built themselves high-places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen up to fortified cities;
Et dans celles des enfants d'Israël, adonnés à des coutumes qui n'étaient point selon le Seigneur leur Dieu; ils s'étaient bâti des hauts lieux en toutes les villes, depuis les tours des guetteurs jusqu'aux cités entourées de remparts.
10 And had set themselves up statues and groves on every high hill, and under every green tree;
Et ils s'étaient dressé des colonnes dans des bois sacrés sur toutes les hautes collines, et sous tous les arbres touffus.
11 And had burnt there incense on all the high-places, like the nations that the Lord had led away exiles before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger;
Et ils avaient fait des sacrifices sur tous les hauts lieux, comme les nations que le Seigneur avait expulsées de devant leur face; ils avaient formé de honteuses associations, ils avaient gravé des images pour irriter le Seigneur.
12 And had served the idols, whereof the Lord had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.
Et ils avaient servi des idoles au sujet desquelles le Seigneur leur avait dit: Ne faites point cette offense au Seigneur.
13 The Lord had indeed warned Israel and Judah, by means of all the prophets, all the seers, saying, Turn ye back from your evil ways, and keep my commandments [and] my statutes, in accordance with all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I have sent to you by means of my servants the prophets.
Cependant, le Seigneur protestait en Israël et en Juda par la bouche de tous ses voyants et de tous ses prophètes, disant: Détournez-vous de vos mauvaises voies, observez mes commandements et mes préceptes; suivez en toutes choses la loi que j'ai donnée à vos pères, et tout ce que je leur ai mandé par mes serviteurs les prophètes.
14 But they would not hear, and hardened their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who had not believed in the Lord their God;
Mais ils ne l'écoutaient point; ils s'endurcissaient le cœur plus que ne l'avaient fait leurs pères.
15 And they despised his statutes, and his covenant which he had made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he had entrusted to them; and they followed after what is vanity, and became vain, and followed after the nations that were round about them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them, not to do like them.
Ils ne gardaient aucun des témoignages que portait le Seigneur; ils marchaient à la suite des vanités, étant vains eux-mêmes; à la suite des nations qui les entouraient, au sujet desquelles le Seigneur leur avait dit: Ne faites pas comme elles.
16 And they forsook all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made themselves molten images, two calves, and made a grove, and bowed down to all the host of the heavens, and served Ba'al;
Ils abandonnaient les commandements du Seigneur leur Dieu; ils s'étaient fait deux génisses jetées en fonte; ils plantaient des bois sacrés; ils adoraient toute l'armée du ciel, et ils servaient Baal.
17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divinations and enchantments, and sold themselves to do what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
Et ils faisaient passer dans la flamme de Moloch leurs fils et leurs filles; ils usaient de la divination et des présages, et ils s'attachaient à faire le mal aux yeux du Seigneur et à l'irriter.
18 Therefore became the Lord very angry with Israel, and he removed them from his presence: there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone.
Et le Seigneur conçut un grand courroux contre Israël; il le rejeta de devant sa face, et il ne resta que la seule tribu de Juda.
19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the customs of Israel which they had made.
Et Juda lui-même n'observa point les commandements du Seigneur son Dieu; il marcha dans les voies d'Israël, et il répudia le Seigneur.
20 Therefore did the Lord reject all the seed of Israel, and he afflicted them, and gave them up into the hand of spoilers, until that he had cast them out of his presence.
Et le Seigneur se courrouça contre toute la race d'Israël; il les ébranla, il les livra à tous ceux qui vinrent les piller, jusqu'à ce. qu'il les rejetât de devant sa face.
21 For Israel had torn themselves from the house of David, and they made Jerobo'am the son of Nebat king: and Jerobo'am misled Israel from following the Lord, and caused them to commit a great sin;
Il le fit surtout parce qu'Israël ayant rejeté la maison de David, et s'étant donné pour roi Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, Jéroboam entraîna Israël hors des voies du Seigneur, et lui fit commettre un grand péché.
22 And the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jerobo'am which he did; they departed not therefrom.
Car, les fils d'Israël tombèrent tous dans le péché de Jéroboam, et ils ne s'en retirèrent point,
23 Until that the Lord removed Israel out of his presence, as he had spoken by means of all his servants the prophets; and Israel was led away as exiles out of their own land to Assyria even until this day.
Jusqu'à ce que le Seigneur eût expulsé Israël de devant sa face, comme il l'en avait menacé par la voix de tous ses serviteurs les prophètes. Et Israël fut emmené en la terre des Assyriens, où il est encore de nos jours.
24 And the king of Assyria brought [men] from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from 'Avva, and from Chamath, and from Sepharvayim, and settled them in the cities of Samaria in the room of the children of Israel: and they took possession of Samaria, and dwelt in its cities.
Ensuite, le roi des Assyriens amena des hommes de Babylone, de Chuth, d'Aïa, d'Emath, de Sepharvaïm, et il les établit en Samarie à la place des fils d'Israël; ils se partagèrent son territoire, et ils demeurèrent dans ses villes.
25 And it happened at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the Lord; wherefore the Lord sent among them lions, which slew some of them.
Dans les premiers temps de leur séjour, ils ne craignaient point le Seigneur, et le Seigneur envoya contre eux des lions qui en tuèrent quelques- uns.
26 And they said to the king of Assyria, as followeth, The nations that thou hast led away, and settled in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land; wherefore he hath sent among them lions, and, behold, they are slaying them, since they know not the manner of the God of the land.
Ils le firent savoir au roi des Assyriens, disant: Les nations que tu as transportées et assises dans les villes de Samarie, ne connaissaient point les jugements du Dieu de cette terre; et il a envoyé contre eux des lions; et voilà que ces lions les tuent, parce qu'ils ne savent pas les jugements du Dieu de cette terre.
27 Then commanded the king of Assyria, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye led away from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
Et le roi des Assyriens donna ses ordres, disant: Emmenez d'ici des gens, qu'ils partent, qu'ils demeurent avec vous; ils vous éclaireront sur les jugements du Dieu de cette terre.
28 And there came one of the priests whom they had led away as exiles from Samaria, and dwelt in Beth-el; and he taught them how they should fear the Lord.
Et ils emmenèrent un des prêtres qu'on avait transportés de Samarie; il s'établit à Béthel; il les éclaira, et il leur apprit comme ils devaient craindre le Seigneur.
29 Yet they made, every nation, their own gods; and they put them in the houses of the high-places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.
Mais, chaque nation fabriqua ses dieux; on les plaça dans les temples des hauts lieux que les Samaritains avaient construits; chaque nation eut les siens dans les villes qu'elle habitait.
30 And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, and the men of Cuth made Neregal, and the men of Chamath made Ashima.
Ceux de Babylone avaient fabriqué Soccoth-Benith; ceux de Chuth, Ergel; ceux d'Emath, Asimath;
31 And the 'Avvites made Nibchaz and Tharthak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to 'Adrammelech and 'Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvayim.
Les Evéens fabriquèrent Eblazer et Tharthac; ceux de Sepharvaïm firent le mal quand ils brûlèrent leurs fils dans les flammes d'Adra-Moloch et d'Ana- Moloch, leurs dieux.
32 And they feared [also] the Lord; and they made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high-places, and these sacrificed for them in the houses of the high-places.
Ils craignaient le Seigneur; mais ils avaient établi leurs abominations dans les temples des hauts lieux qu'avaient construits les Samaritains, chacun dans la ville que sa nation habitait; ils craignaient le Seigneur; mais ils avaient institué pour eux des prêtres des hauts lieux, et ils sacrifiaient dans les temples des hauts lieux.
33 The Lord did they fear, and their own gods did they serve, after the manner of the nations whence they had been led away.
Ils craignaient le Seigneur, mais ils servirent leurs dieux selon l'usage des nations dont ils avaient été tirés.
34 Even until this day do they act after the former manners: they fear not the Lord, neither do they act after their own customs, and after their manner, nor after the law and after the commandment which the Lord commanded the children of Israel, whose name he styled Israel;
Jusqu'à ce jour, ils ont agi selon leurs usages; les mêmes gens craignent le Seigneur et agissent selon leurs mœurs, selon leurs usages, et en même temps selon la loi et les préceptes que le Seigneur a donnés aux fils de Jacob, qu'il a appelé aussi Israël;
35 With whom the Lord had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves down to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them;
Avec qui le Seigneur fit jadis alliance, disant: Vous ne craindrez point d'autres dieux, vous ne les adorerez pas, vous ne les servirez point, vous ne leur ferez point de sacrifices.
36 But the Lord, who hath brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great might and with an outstretched arm, him alone shall ye fear, and to him shall ye bow yourselves down, and to him shall ye sacrifice;
Vous ne craindrez, vous n'adorerez, vous n'honorerez par des sacrifices que le Seigneur qui vous a ramenés d'Égypte par sa toute-puissance, et par son bras très-haut.
37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he hath written for you, shall ye observe to do for all time; and ye shall not fear other gods.
Vous observerez toujours les ordonnances, les jugements, la loi et les commandements qu'il a écrits, pour que vous les pratiquiez; vous ne craindrez point d'autres dieux.
38 And the covenant that I have made with you shall ye not forget; and ye shall not fear other gods.
Et vous n'abandonnerez point l'alliance qu'il a faite avec vous, et vous ne craindrez point d'autres dieux;
39 But the Lord your God shall ye fear; and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.
Vous ne craindrez que le Seigneur votre Dieu, et il vous délivrera de tous vos ennemis;
40 Nevertheless they have not hearkened, but they act after their former manner.
Vous ne suivrez point les pratiques que suivent les Gentils.
41 So were these nations, while they feared the Lord, also serving their graven images; and both their children and their children's children do until this day as their fathers have done.
Ces nations nouvelles craignaient donc le Seigneur, et elles servaient leurs idoles; et leurs fils, et les fils de leurs fils, ont fait comme leurs pères jusqu'à nos jours.
