2 Chronicles 34
1 Eight years old was Josiah when he became king, and thirty and one years did he reign in Jerusalem.
Josias var åtte år gammel da han blev konge, og han regjerte en og tretti år i Jerusalem.
2 And he did what is right in the eyes of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, and turned not aside to the right or to the left.
Han gjorde hvad rett var i Herrens øine, og vandret på sin far Davids veier; han vek ikke av hverken til høire eller til venstre.
3 And in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a lad, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purify Judah and Jerusalem from the high-places, and the Asherim, and the carved images, and the molten images.
I det åttende år av sin regjering, da han ennu var en ungdom, begynte han å søke Davids, sin fars Gud, og i det tolvte år begynte han å rense Juda og Jerusalem for offerhaugene og Astarte-billedene og de utskårne og støpte billeder.
4 And they broke down in his presence the altars of the Be'alim, and the sun-images, that were set above them, he cut down; and the Asherim, and the carved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and ground down, and strewed [the same] upon the graves of those that had sacrificed unto them.
De rev ned Ba'alenes altere, mens han så på det, og solstøttene som stod ovenpå dem, hugg han i stykker, og Astarte-billedene og de utskårne og støpte billeder sønderslo han og knuste dem, og støvet av dem strødde han på de folks graver som hadde ofret til dem,
5 And the bones of priests did he burn upon their altars; and he purified Judah and Jerusalem.
og prestenes ben brente han på deres altere. Således renset han Juda og Jerusalem.
6 And [so did he] in the cities of Menasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even as far as Naphtali, with their mattocks, round about.
Og rundt omkring i Manasses og Efra'ims og Simeons byer like til Naftali gjennemsøkte han husene,
7 And when he had broken down the altars and had beaten the Asherim and the graven images into powder, and cut down all the sun-images throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
og han rev ned alterne og Astarte-billedene, og de utskårne billeder sønderslo han og knuste dem, og alle solstøttene i hele Israels land hugg han i stykker; så vendte han tilbake til Jerusalem.
8 And in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purified the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azalyahu, and Ma'asseyahu the governor of the city and Joach the son of Joachaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.
Og i det attende år av sin regjering, mens han holdt på å rense landet og Herrens hus, sendte han Safan, Asaljas sønn, og byens høvedsmann Ma'aseja og historieskriveren Joah, Jaokas' sønn, avsted for å sette i stand Herrens, hans Guds hus.
9 And they came to Chilkiyahu the high-priest, and gave up the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites that watched at the threshold had gathered from the hand of Menasseh and Ephraim, and from all the remnant of Israel, and from all Judah and Benjamin, and were returned to Jerusalem.—
Da de kom til ypperstepresten Hilkias, gav de fra sig de penger som var kommet inn til Guds hus, og som de levitter som var voktere ved dørtreskelen, hadde samlet inn fra Manasse og Efra'im og hele resten av Israel og fra hele Juda og Benjamin og Jerusalems innbyggere -
10 And they delivered it into the hand of those who overlooked the workmen that had been appointed as overseers of the house of the Lord: and those who overlooked the workmen, who did the work in the house of the Lord, gave it out, to repair and to restore the house,
de overgav dem til dem som forestod arbeidet og hadde tilsyn med Herrens hus; og de gav dem til dem som utførte arbeidet - dem som arbeidet i Herrens hus og skulde utbedre huset og sette det i stand,
11 And they gave it to the carpenters and to the builders to buy hewn stone and timber for joists, and to lay the beams in the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
til tømmermennene og bygningsmennene til innkjøp av hugne stener og tre til bindingsbjelkene og til å tømre op igjen de bygninger som Judas konger hadde latt forfalle.
12 And the men acted faithfully in the work: and over them were appointed Jachath and 'Obadyahu, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kehathites, to supervise; and every one of these Levites was skilful on instruments of music.
Mennene arbeidet med troskap på verket. Nogen av levittene var satt til å ha tilsyn med dem; det var Jahat og Obadja av Meraris barn og Sakarja og Mesullam av kahatittenes barn og alle de levitter som forstod sig på musikkinstrumenter.
13 They were also over the bearers of burdens and supervisors over all that did the work in every manner of service: and from the Levites there were also scribes, and officers, and gatekeepers.
De hadde også rådighet over bærerne og tilsyn med alle arbeiderne ved hvert enkelt arbeid. Nogen av levittene var også skrivere og opsynsmenn og dørvoktere.
14 And when they took out the money that had been brought into the house of the Lord, Chilkiyahu the priest found the book of the law of the Lord through the hand of Moses.
Da de nu tok ut de penger som var kommet inn til Herrens hus, fant presten Hilkias boken med Herrens lov, som var gitt ved Moses.
15 Then commenced Chilkiyahu and said to Shaphan the scribe, The book of the law have I found in the house of the Lord. And Chilkiyahu gave the book to Shaphan.
Da tok Hilkias til orde og sa til statsskriveren Safan: Jeg har funnet lovboken i Herrens hus. Og Hilkias overgav boken til Safan.
16 And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king also word back again, saying, All that was put in the hand of thy servants, have they truly done.
Safan bar boken til kongen, og han gav med det samme melding til kongen og sa: Dine tjenere gjør alt som er dem pålagt;
17 And they have taken out the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and have delivered it into the hand of the appointed overseers, and into the hand of those who overlook the workmen.
de har tømt ut de penger som fantes i Herrens hus, og overgitt dem til tilsynsmennene og til dem som forestår arbeidet.
18 Then told Shaphan the scribe the king, saying, A book hath Chilkiyahu the priest given me. And Shaphan read in it before the king.
Og statsskriveren Safan fortalte kongen at presten Hilkias hadde overgitt ham en bok. Og Safan leste op av den for kongen.
19 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.
Da kongen hørte lovens ord, sønderrev han sine klær.
20 And the king commanded Chilkiyahu, and Achikam the son of Shaphan, and 'Abdon the son of Michah, and Shaphan the scribe, and 'Assayah a servant of the king's, saying,
Og kongen bød Hilkias og Akikam, Safans sønn, og Abdon, Mikas sønn, og statsskriveren Safan og kongens tjener Asaja:
21 Go ye, inquire of the Lord in my behalf, and in behalf of those that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that hath been found; for great is the fury of the Lord that is poured out against us, because our fathers did not keep the word of the Lord, to do in accordance with all that is written in this book.
Gå og spør Herren for mig og for dem som er blitt igjen i Israel og Juda, om det som står i den bok som nu er funnet! For stor er Herrens vrede, som er utøst over oss fordi våre fedre ikke har holdt Herrens ord og ikke gjort alt det som skrevet er i denne bok.
22 Then went Chilkiyahu with those whom the king [had appointed], to Chuldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Thoknath, the son of Chassrah, the keeper of the wardrobe; —now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the suburb; —and they spoke to her in that wise.
Så gikk Hilkias og de andre som kongen sendte avsted, til profetinnen Hulda, hustru til klædeskammer-vokteren Sallum, sønn av Tokhat, Kasras sønn; hun bodde i Jerusalem i den annen bydel; og de talte med henne således som det var dem pålagt.
23 And she said unto them, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, Say unto the man that hath sent you to me,
Hun sa til dem: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Si til den mann som har sendt eder til mig:
24 Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah;
Så sier Herren: Se, jeg fører ulykke over dette sted og dets innbyggere - alle de forbannelser som er skrevet i den bok de har lest for Judas konge,
25 Because they have forsaken me, and have burnt incense unto other gods, in order to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands: therefore is my fury poured out upon this place, and it shall not be quenched.
fordi de har forlatt mig og brent røkelse for andre guder for å vekke min harme med alt sine henders verk; min vrede skal utøses over dette sted, og den skal ikke utslukkes.
26 And with respect to the king of Judah, who sendeth you to inquire of the Lord, thus shall ye say to him, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, Concerning the words which thou hast heard;
Og til Judas konge, som sendte eder for å spørre Herren, til ham skal I si således: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud, om de ord som du har hørt:
27 Because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardst his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and didst humble thyself before me, and rend thy clothes, and weep before me: I have also truly heard it, saith the Lord.
Fordi ditt hjerte blev bløtt, og du ydmyket dig for Guds åsyn da du hørte hans ord mot dette sted og dets innbyggere - fordi du ydmyket dig for mitt åsyn og sønderrev dine klær og gråt for mitt åsyn, så har også jeg hørt, sier Herren.
28 Behold, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy graves in peace, and thy eyes shall not look on all the evil which I am bringing over this place, and over its inhabitants. And they brought the king word again.
Så vil jeg da samle dig til dine fedre, og du skal samles med dem i din grav i fred, og dine øine skal ikke se all den ulykke jeg vil føre over dette sted og dets innbyggere. Med dette svar kom de tilbake til kongen.
29 And the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
Da sendte kongen bud og lot kalle sammen alle Judas og Jerusalems eldste.
30 And the king went up into the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, from the great to the small; and he read before their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord.
Og kongen gikk op til Herrens hus, og hver mann av Juda og Jerusalems innbyggere fulgte ham, prestene og levittene og alt folket, både store og små; og han leste op for dem alt det som stod skrevet i paktens bok, den som var funnet i Herrens hus.
31 And the king stood up on his stand, and he made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that are written in this book.
Og kongen stod på sin plass og gjorde den pakt for Herrens åsyn at han vilde følge Herren og holde hans bud og hans vidnesbyrd og hans forskrifter av alt sitt hjerte og av all sin sjel - at han vilde gjøre efter paktens ord, som var skrevet i denne bok.
32 And he caused to accede to it every one that was present in Jerusalem and Benjamin. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted in accordance with the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
Og han lot alle som fantes i Jerusalem og Benjamin, trede inn i pakten; og Jerusalems innbyggere gjorde efter den pakt de hadde inngått med Gud, sine fedres Gud.
33 And Josiah removed all the abominations out of all the countries that belonged to the children of Israel, and caused all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the Lord their God. All his days did they not depart from following the Lord God of their fathers.
Og Josias tok bort alle vederstyggeligheter fra alle de land som hørte Israels barn til, og han holdt alle som fantes i Israel, til å tjene Herren sin Gud. Så lenge han levde, vek de ikke av fra Herren, sine fedres Gud.
