2 Chronicles 20
1 And it came to pass after this, that the children of Moab, and the children of 'Ammon, and with them some of the 'Ammonim, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
Después de esto, los hijos de Moab, los hijos de Amón, y con ellos algunos de los amonitas, vinieron contra Josafat para combatir.
2 And there came some and told unto Jehoshaphat, saying, There is coming against thee a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Syria; and, behold, they are in Chazazon-thamar, which is 'En-gedi.
Entonces vinieron algunos que le dijeron a Josafat: “Una gran multitud viene contra ti desde el otro lado del mar, desde Siria. He aquí que están en Hazazón Tamar” (es decir, En Gedi).
3 Then became Jehoshaphat afraid, and he directed his face to seek the Lord; and he proclaimed a fast over all Judah.
Josafat se alarmó y se puso a buscar a Yahvé. Proclamó un ayuno en todo Judá.
4 And [the people of] Judah gathered themselves together, to ask [help] of the Lord: also out of all the cities of Judah did they come to seek the Lord.
Judá se reunió para pedir ayuda a Yahvé. Salieron de todas las ciudades de Judá para buscar a Yahvé.
5 And Jehoshaphat stood forward in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court.
Josafat se puso de pie en la asamblea de Judá y Jerusalén, en la casa de Yahvé, ante el nuevo tribunal;
6 And he said, O Lord, the God of our fathers, thou art God in the heavens, and thou rulest over all the kingdoms of the nations; and in thy hand are the power and might, and there is none that can withstand thee.
y dijo: “Yahvé, el Dios de nuestros padres, ¿no eres tú el Dios del cielo? ¿No eres tú el que gobierna todos los reinos de las naciones? El poder y la fuerza están en tu mano, de modo que nadie puede resistirte.
7 Behold, it is thou, O our God, who hast driven out the inhabitants of this land from before thy people Israel; and thou gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend to eternity.
¿No expulsaste tú, Dios nuestro, a los habitantes de esta tierra antes que tu pueblo Israel, y se la diste a la descendencia de Abraham, tu amigo, para siempre?
8 And they have dwelt therein, and have built for thee therein a sanctuary for thy name, saying,
Ellos vivieron en ella y te construyeron un santuario en tu nombre, diciendo:
9 If there should come over us any evil, the sword, punishment, or pestilence, or famine, [then] will we stand before this house, and in thy presence, for thy name is in this house, and we will cry unto thee out of our distress, and thou wilt hear and help.
‘Si nos sobreviene el mal — la espada, el juicio, la peste o el hambre — nos presentaremos ante esta casa y ante ti (pues tu nombre está en esta casa), y clamaremos a ti en nuestra aflicción, y tú nos escucharás y salvarás.’
10 And now, behold, the children of 'Ammon and Moab and mount Se'ir, against whom thou wouldst not suffer Israel to come, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and destroyed them not: —
Ahora bien, he aquí que los hijos de Amón, de Moab y del monte Seír, a quienes no dejaste invadir a Israel cuando salieron de la tierra de Egipto, pero se apartaron de ellos y no los destruyeron;
11 And behold, they recompense us, by coming to drive us out of thy inheritance, which thou hast given us to possess.
he aquí que nos recompensan, para venir a echarnos de tu posesión, que nos has dado en herencia.
12 O our God, wilt thou not execute justice on them? for there is no power in us against this great multitude that is coming against us; and we indeed know not what we are to do: but upon thee are our eyes [directed].
Dios nuestro, ¿no los juzgarás? Porque no tenemos fuerza contra esta gran compañía que viene contra nosotros. No sabemos qué hacer, pero nuestros ojos están puestos en ti”.
13 And all Judah were standing before the Lord, also their little ones, their wives, and their sons.
Todo Judá se presentó ante el Señor, con sus pequeños, sus mujeres y sus hijos.
14 And upon Jachaziel the son of Zecharyahu, the son of Benayah, the son of Je'iel, the son of Matthanyah, the Levite, of the sons of Assaph, came the spirit of the Lord in the midst of the assembly;
Entonces el Espíritu de Yahvé vino sobre Jahaziel hijo de Zacarías, hijo de Benaía, hijo de Jeiel, hijo de Mattanías, levita, de los hijos de Asaf, en medio de la asamblea;
15 And he said, Listen ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus hath said the Lord unto you, Be ye not afraid and be not dismayed because of this great multitude; for not unto you belongeth the battle, but unto God.
y dijo: “Escuchad, todo Judá, y vosotros, habitantes de Jerusalén, y tú, rey Josafat. El Señor les dice: ‘No teman, ni se amedrenten a causa de esta gran multitud; porque la batalla no es de ustedes, sino de Dios.
16 Tomorrow go ye down against them behold, they come up by the ascent of Ziz; and ye will find them at the end of the valley, in front of the wilderness of Jeruel.
Mañana, baja contra ellos. He aquí que suben por la subida de Ziz. Los encontrarás al final del valle, antes del desierto de Jeruel.
17 Ye shall not need to fight in this place: stand firmly, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, and be not dismayed; tomorrow go out to meet them, and the Lord will be with you.
No será necesario que luchéis en esta batalla. Pónganse firmes, quédense quietos y vean la salvación de Yahvé con ustedes, oh Judá y Jerusalén. No tengan miedo, ni se amedrenten. Salid mañana contra ellos, porque Yahvé está con vosotros”.
18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the Lord, to prostrate themselves unto the Lord.
Josafat inclinó la cabeza con el rostro hacia el suelo, y todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén se postraron ante Yahvé, adorando a Yahvé.
19 And then arose the Levites, of the children of the Kehathites, and of the children of the Korehites, to praise the Lord the God of Israel with a very loud voice.
Los levitas, de los hijos de los coatitas y de los hijos de los corasitas, se levantaron para alabar a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, con una voz muy fuerte.
20 And they rose up early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Thekoa': and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood forward and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; believe in the Lord your God, and ye will have permanence; believe his prophets, and ye will prosper.
Se levantaron de madrugada y salieron al desierto de Tecoa. Mientras salían, Josafat se puso de pie y dijo: “¡Escúchenme, Judá y ustedes, habitantes de Jerusalén! Creed en Yahvé, vuestro Dios, para que seáis firmes. Creed a sus profetas, así prosperaréis”.
21 And he consulted with his people, and he appointed singers unto the Lord, and those that should praise in the holy ornaments, as they went out before the armed array, and said, Give thanks unto the Lord; for unto everlasting endureth his kindness.
Después de consultar con el pueblo, designó a los que debían cantar a Yahvé y alabar en formación sagrada al salir delante del ejército, y decir: “Dad gracias a Yahvé, porque su bondad es eterna.”
22 And at the time when they began with the song and the praise, the Lord set an ambush against the children of 'Ammon, Moab, and mount Se'ir, who were come against Judah, and they were smitten.
Cuando comenzaron a cantar y a alabar, Yahvé puso emboscadas contra los hijos de Amón, de Moab y del monte Seír, que habían venido contra Judá, y fueron derrotados.
23 And the children of 'Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Se'ir, utterly to annihilate and to destroy them; and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Se'ir, they helped to destroy one another.
Porque los hijos de Amón y de Moab se levantaron contra los habitantes del monte de Seír para matarlos y destruirlos por completo. Cuando acabaron con los habitantes de Seir, todos se ayudaron a destruirse mutuamente.
24 And when Judah came toward the watchtower in the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none had escaped.
Cuando Judá llegó al lugar que daba al desierto, miraron a la multitud; y he aquí que eran cadáveres caídos en tierra, y no había quien escapara.
25 And then came Jehoshaphat and his people to plunder their booty, and they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies, and costly vessels, which they stript off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in plundering the booty, for it was so much.
Cuando Josafat y su gente vinieron a tomar su botín, encontraron entre ellos en abundancia tanto riquezas como cadáveres con joyas preciosas, que despojaron para sí, más de lo que podían llevar. Tomaron el botín durante tres días, pues era mucho.
26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the Lord: therefore did they call the name of this place, The valley of Berachah [[Blessing]], until this day.
Al cuarto día se reunieron en el valle de Beracah, porque allí bendijeron a Yahvé. Por eso el nombre de ese lugar se llamó “Valle de Beracá” hasta el día de hoy.
27 Then returned all the men of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to return to Jerusalem with joy; for the Lord had caused them to rejoice over their enemies.
Luego regresaron, todos los hombres de Judá y de Jerusalén, con Josafat al frente, para volver a Jerusalén con alegría, porque Yahvé les había hecho alegrarse de sus enemigos.
28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and with harps and with trumpets unto the house of the Lord.
Llegaron a Jerusalén con instrumentos de cuerda, arpas y trompetas a la casa de Yahvé.
29 And a dread from God was on all the kingdoms of [those] countries, when they heard that the Lord had fought with the enemies of Israel.
El temor de Dios se apoderó de todos los reinos de los países cuando oyeron que Yahvé luchaba contra los enemigos de Israel.
30 So the kingdom of Jehoshaphat had repose, and his God gave him rest all round about.
Así, el reino de Josafat estaba tranquilo, pues su Dios le daba descanso en todo el territorio.
31 And [so] did Jehoshaphat reign over Judah; thirty and five years old was he when he became king, and twenty and five years did he reign in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was 'Azubah the daughter of Shilchi.
Así reinó Josafat sobre Judá. Tenía treinta y cinco años cuando comenzó a reinar. Reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Azubá, hija de Silí.
32 And he walked in the way of his father Assa, and turned not aside from it, doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord.
Siguió el camino de su padre Asá y no se apartó de él, haciendo lo que era justo a los ojos del Señor.
33 Nevertheless the high-places were not removed; for the people had not yet directed their heart firmly unto the God of their fathers.
Sin embargo, los lugares altos no fueron quitados, y el pueblo aún no había puesto su corazón en el Dios de sus padres.
34 And the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, behold, they are written in the history of Jehu the son of Chanani, which was entered into the book of the kings of Israel.
El resto de los hechos de Josafat, los primeros y los últimos, están escritos en la historia de Jehú, hijo de Hanani, que está incluida en el libro de los reyes de Israel.
35 And after this did Jehoshaphat the king of Judah connect himself with Achazyah the king of Israel, the same who acted very wickedly;
Después de esto, Josafat, rey de Judá, se unió a Ocozías, rey de Israel. Éste hizo muy mal.
36 And he connected himself with him to make ships to go to Tharshish: and they made ships in 'Ezyon-geber.
Se unió a él para hacer barcos para ir a Tarsis. Hicieron las naves en Ezión Geber.
37 Then prophesied Eli'ezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast connected thyself with Achazyahu, the Lord hath broken down thy works. And the ships were wrecked, so that they were not able to go to Tharshish.
Entonces Eliezer, hijo de Dodavahu, de Mareshah, profetizó contra Josafat, diciendo: “Por haberte unido a Ocozías, el Señor ha destruido tus obras.” Los barcos naufragaron, de modo que no pudieron ir a Tarsis.
