2 Chronicles 11
1 And when Rehobo'am was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring back the kingdom again to Rehobo'am.
Roboam vint donc à Jérusalem, et il convoqua toute la maison de Juda et de Benjamin, cent quatre-vingt mille hommes, choisis et guerriers, pour combattre contre Israël et ramener à lui son royaume.
2 But the word of the Lord came unto Shema'yahu the man of God, saying,
Alors la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Séméias, homme de Dieu, disant:
3 Say unto Rehobo'am the son of Solomon, the king of Judah and Benjamin, saying,
Dis à Roboam, fils de Salomon, roi de Juda, et à tout le peuple d’Israël qui est dans Juda et Benjamin:
4 Thus hath said the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight with your brethren: return every man to his house; for from me hath this thing been brought about. And they hearkened to the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jerobo'am.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Vous ne monterez pas, vous ne combattrez pas contre vos frères: que chacun retourne en sa maison, parce que cela s’est fait par ma volonté. Ceux-ci, lorsqu’ils eurent entendu la parole du Seigneur, s’en retournèrent, et n’avancèrent pas contre Jéroboam.
5 And Rehobo'am dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities as fortresses in Judah.
Ainsi Roboam habita à Jérusalem, et bâtit des villes murées dans Juda.
6 He built, namely, Beth-lechem, and 'Etam, and Thekoa'.
Il construisit donc Bethléhem, Etham, Thécué,
7 And Beth-zur, and Socho, and 'Adullam,
Et aussi Bethsur, Socho, Odollam;
8 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
De plus Geth, Marésa, Ziph,
9 And Adorayim and Lachish, and 'Azekah,
Et même Aduram, Lachis, et Azéca,
10 And Zor'ah, and Ayalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.
Saraa aussi, et Aïalon, et Hébron, qui étaient dans Juda et Benjamin, villes très fortifiées.
11 And he strengthened the strong-holds, and put commanders in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine;
Et quand il les eut fermées de murs, il y mit des gouverneurs et des magasins de vivres, c’est-à-dire d’huile et de vin.
12 And in each and every city [he placed] shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong: and thus remained with him Judah and Benjamin.
Mais il établit aussi dans chaque ville un arsenal de boucliers et de lances, et il fortifia ces villes avec le plus grand soin; et il régna sur Juda et Benjamin.
13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel presented themselves to him out of all their territory.
Or les prêtres et les Lévites qui étaient dans tout Israël, vinrent auprès de lui, de toutes leurs demeures,
14 For the Levites left their open districts and their possession, and went to Judah and Jerusalem; because Jerobo'am and his sons cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the Lord,
Abandonnant les faubourgs et leurs possessions, et passant dans Juda et à Jérusalem, parce que Jéroboam et ses enfants les avaient chassés, afin qu’ils n’exerçassent pas les fonctions du sacerdoce du Seigneur.
15 And [because] he ordained for himself priests for the high-places, and for the evil spirits, and for the calves which he had made.
Jéroboam se constitua lui-même des prêtres pour les hauts lieux, pour les démons, et pour les veaux qu’il avait faits.
16 And after them [came] out of all the tribes of Israel such as directed their heart to seek the Lord the God of Israel: these came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord, the God of their fathers.
Mais de plus, dans toutes les tribus d’Israël, tous ceux qui avaient mis leur cœur à chercher le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, vinrent à Jérusalem pour immoler leurs victimes devant le Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères.
17 And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and brought power to Rehobo'am, the son of Solomon, during three years; for they walked in the way of David and Solomon during three years.
Et ils fortifièrent le royaume de Juda, et ils affermirent Roboam, fils de Salomon, durant trois ans; car ils marchèrent dans les voies de David et de Salomon, durant trois ans seulement.
18 And Rehobo'am took himself as wife Machalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, [and] Abichayil the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
Or Roboam épousa Mahalath, fille de Jérimoth, fils de David, et encore Abihaïl, fille d’Eliab, fils d’Isai,
19 And she bore to him sons: Je'ush, and Shamaryah, and Zaham.
Laquelle lui enfanta Jéhus, Somoria et Zoom.
20 And after her did he take Ma'achah the daughter of Abshalom; and she bore to him Abiyah, and 'Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
Après celle-ci, il prit encore Maacha, fille d’Absalom, laquelle lui enfanta Abia, Ethaï, Ziza et Salomith.
21 And Rehobo'am loved Ma'achah the daughter of Abshalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines; and he begat twenty and eight sons, and sixty daughters.
Or Roboam aima Maacha, fille d’Absalom, plus que toutes ses femmes du premier et du second rang; car il avait épousé dix-huit femmes du premier rang, et soixante du second; et il avait engendré vingt-huit fils et soixante filles.
22 And Rehobo'am appointed Abiyah the son of Ma'achah to be the chief, to be ruler among his brethren; because [he desired] to make him king.
Mais il établit en tête Abia, fils de Maacha, chef sur tous ses frères; car c’est lui qu’il pensait faire roi,
23 And he dealt understandingly, and dispersed all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance and he required [for them] a multitude of wives.
Parce qu’il était plus sage et plus puissant que tous ses frères dans tous les confins de Juda et de Benjamin et dans toutes les villes murées; et il leur donna des vivres en abondance, et il leur chercha un grand nombre de femmes.
