1 Samuel 1
1 And there was a certain man of Rama-thayim-zophim, of the mountain of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah, the son of Yerocham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tochu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.
૧એફ્રાઇમના પહાડી પ્રદેશના રામાથાઈમ-સોફીમ નગરનો એક માણસ હતો, તેનું નામ એલ્કાના હતું, જે એફ્રાઇમી સૂફનો દીકરા, અલીહૂના દીકરા, જે તોહૂના દીકરા, જે સૂફના દીકરા, જે અલીહૂના દીકરા યરોહામનો દીકરો હતો.
2 And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
૨તેને બે પત્નીઓ હતી, એકનું નામ હાન્ના અને બીજી પત્નીનું નામ પનિન્ના હતું. પનિન્નાને બાળકો હતાં, પણ હાન્નાને બાળકો ન હતાં.
3 And this man went up out of his city from year to year to prostrate himself and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And at that place were the two sons of 'Eli, Chophni and Phinehas, priests of the Lord.
૩આ માણસ પોતાના નગરમાંથી વર્ષો વર્ષ શીલોમાં સૈન્યના ઈશ્વરનું ભજન કરવા તથા બલિદાન આપવા સારુ જતો હતો. ત્યાં એલીના બે દીકરા હોફની તથા ફીનહાસ ઈશ્વરના યાજક હતા.
4 And when the day was come that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions;
૪જયારે એલ્કાનાનો વર્ષ પ્રમાણે બલિદાન કરવાનો દિવસ આવતો, ત્યારે તે હંમેશા પોતાની પત્ની પનિન્નાને તથા તેણીના દીકરા દીકરીઓને હિસ્સો વહેંચી આપતો.
5 But unto Hannah he gave a double portion; for Hannah he loved [greatly]; but the Lord had shut up her womb.
૫પણ હાન્નાને તે હંમેશા બમણો ભાગ આપતો, કેમ કે તે હાન્ના પર વધારે પ્રેમ રાખતો હતો, પણ ઈશ્વરે તેનું ગર્ભસ્થાન બંધ કર્યું હતું.
6 And her rival also provoked her continually, in order to make her fret; because the Lord had shut up her womb.
૬તેથી તેની શોક્ય પત્ની તેને ખૂબ જ ચીડવતી અને ખીજવતી હતી.
7 And he did so year by year, as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, so did she provoke her; wherefore she wept, and did not eat.
૭જયારે વર્ષો વર્ષ, તે પોતાના કુંટુંબ સાથે ઈશ્વરના ઘરમાં જતી, ત્યારે તેની શોક્ય હંમેશા તેને ઉશ્કેરતી. તેથી તે રડતી અને કશું પણ ખાતી ન હતી.
8 Then said to her Elkanah her husband, Hannah, why wilt thou weep? and why wilt thou not eat? and why should thy heart be grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
૮માટે તેનો પતિ એલ્કાના હંમેશા તેને કહેતો, “હાન્ના, તું કેમ રડે છે? તું કેમ ખાતી નથી? તારું હૃદય કેમ ઉદાસ છે?’ હું તને દસ પુત્ર કરતાં અધિક નથી શું?
9 And Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk; and 'Eli the priest was sitting upon a chair by the door-post of the temple of the Lord.
૯તેઓ શીલોમાં ખાઈ પી રહ્યા પછી હાન્ના ઊઠી. એલી યાજક ઈશ્વરના ઘરનાં દરવાજા પાસે પોતાની બેઠક પર બેઠેલો હતો.
10 But she had bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept greatly.
૧૦તે ઘણી દુઃખી હતી; તેણે ઈશ્વરને પ્રાર્થના કરી અને ખૂબ રડી.
11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man-child: then will I give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.
૧૧માનતા માનીને તેણે કહ્યું, “સૈન્યના ઈશ્વર, જો તમે તમારી દાસીના દુઃખ તરફ જોશો અને મને સંભારશો અને આ તમારી દાસીને વીસરશો નહિ, પણ તેને દીકરો આપશો, તો હું તેને તેના આયુષ્યનાં સર્વ દિવસોભર ઈશ્વરને અર્પણ કરીશ, અસ્ત્રો તેના માથા પર કદી ફરશે નહિ.”
12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying long before the Lord, that 'Eli watched her mouth.
૧૨જયારે ઈશ્વરની આગળ સતત પ્રાર્થના કરવામાં તે મશગૂલ હતી, ત્યારે એલીએ તેના મુખ તરફ જોયું.
13 Now as for Hannah, she spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice could not be heard; wherefore 'Eli regarded her as a drunken woman.
૧૩હાન્ના પોતાના હૃદયમાં બોલતી હતી, તેના હોઠ હાલતા દેખાતા હતા, પણ તેની વાણી સંભળાતી ન હતી. માટે એલીને એવું લાગ્યું કે તે નશામાં છે.
14 And 'Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from off thee.
૧૪એલીએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “તું ક્યાં સુધી નશામાં રહીશ? દ્રાક્ષારસ પીવાનું બંધ કર.”
15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my Lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit; but neither wine nor strong drink have I drunk, and I have poured out my soul before the Lord.
૧૫હાન્નાએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, “ના, મારા માલિક, હું હૃદયમાં દુઃખી સ્ત્રી છું. મેં દ્રાક્ષારસ કે દારૂ પીધો નથી, પણ હું ઈશ્વર આગળ મારું હૃદય ખાલી કરતી હતી.”
16 Esteem not thy handmaid as a worthless woman; for out of the abundance of my grief and vexation have I spoken hitherto.
૧૬“તારી દાસી ખરાબ છે એવું માનીશ નહિ; કેમ કે હું અત્યાર સુધી અતિશય ચિંતા અને ગમગીનીમાં બોલતી રહેલી છું.”
17 Then 'Eli answered and said, Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant thy petition which thou hast asked of him.
૧૭ત્યારે એલીએ ઉત્તર આપીને કહ્યું, “શાંતિએ જા; ઇઝરાયલના ઈશ્વરની આગળ તેં જે વિનંતી કરી છે, તે ઈશ્વર સફળ કરે.”
18 And she said, Let thy handmaid find grace in thy eyes. The woman then went on her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no longer as before.
૧૮તેણે કહ્યું, “તારી દાસી ઉપર તારી કૃપાદ્રષ્ટિ થાઓ.” પછી હાન્ના પોતાને માર્ગે ચાલી ગઈ અને તેણે ખોરાક ખાધો. ત્યાર પછી તેના મુખ પર ઉદાસીનતા રહી નહિ.
19 And they rose up early in the morning, and prostrated themselves before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house at Ramah; and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.
૧૯સવારે વહેલા ઊઠીને તેઓએ ઈશ્વરની આગળ ભજન કર્યું, પછી તેઓ રામામાં પોતાને ઘરે પાછા આવ્યાં. એલ્કાના પોતાની પત્ની હાન્નાની સાથે સૂઈ ગયો અને ઈશ્વરે તેને સંભારી.
20 And it came to pass, after the lapse of some time, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she called his name Samuel, saying, Because from the Lord have I asked him.
૨૦સમય પસાર થતાં એમ થયું કે, હાન્ના ગર્ભવતી થઈ. પછી દીકરાને જન્મ આપ્યો. તેણે તેનું નામ શમુએલ રાખ્યું. અને કહ્યું, “મેં તેને ઈશ્વર પાસેથી માગી લીધો છે.”
21 And the man Elkanah went up, with all his house, to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
૨૧ફરીથી, એલ્કાના પોતાના આખા કુટુંબ સહિત, ઈશ્વરની આગળ વાર્ષિક બલિદાન તથા પોતાની માનતા ચઢાવવા ગયો.
22 But Hannah did not go up; for she said unto her husband, So soon as the child shall be weaned, then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord, and abide there for ever.
૨૨પણ હાન્ના ગઈ નહિ; તેણે તેના પતિને કહ્યું, “બાળક દૂધ છોડે નહિ ત્યાં સુધી હું જઈશ નહિ; પછી હું તેને લઈ જઈશ, જેથી તે ઈશ્વરની સમક્ષ હાજર થઈને સદા ત્યાં જ રહે.”
23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth good in thy eyes; tarry until thou hast weaned him; only may the Lord fulfill his word. So the woman remained behind, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
૨૩એલ્કાનાએ તેને કહ્યું, “તને જે સારું લાગે તે કર.” તું તેને દૂધ છોડાવે ત્યાં સુધી રાહ જો; એટલું જ કે ઈશ્વર પોતાનું વચન પરિપૂર્ણ કરો.” માટે તે સ્ત્રી ત્યાં રહી અને પોતાના દીકરાનું દૂધ છોડાવ્યું ત્યાં સુધી તેનું પોષણ કર્યું.
24 And she took him up with her, when she had weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and she brought him unto the house of the Lord at Shiloh; although the child was yet young.
૨૪તેણે તેનું દૂધ છોડાવ્યું ત્યાર પછી, તેણે તેને પોતાની સાથે લીધો, ત્રણ વર્ષનો એક બળદો, એક એફાહ આશરે 20 કિલો લોટ, એક કૂંડીમાં દ્રાક્ષાસવ પણ લીધો, આ બધું તેઓ શીલોમાં ઈશ્વરના ઘરમાં લાવ્યા. બાળક હજી નાનો હતો.
25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to 'Eli.
૨૫તેઓએ બળદનું બલીદાન કર્યું અને તેઓ તે બાળ શમુએલને એલી પાસે લાવ્યા.
26 And she said, Pardon, my Lord, as thy soul liveth, my Lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, to pray unto the Lord.
૨૬હાન્નાએ કહ્યું, “ઓ, મારા માલિક! તારા જીવના સમ કે જે સ્ત્રી ઈશ્વરને પ્રાર્થના કરતી હતી તે હું છું.
27 For this lad did I pray; and the Lord hath granted me my petition which I asked of him;
૨૭આ બાળક સારુ હું પ્રાર્થના કરતી હતી અને ઈશ્વર સમક્ષ મેં જે પ્રાર્થના કરી હતી તે તેમણે ફળીભૂત કરી છે.
28 Therefore also have I lent him, for my part, to the Lord; all the days that have been assigned to him shall he be lent to the Lord. And he bowed himself there before the Lord.
૨૮માટે મેં તેને ઈશ્વરને અર્પિત કરેલો છે; તે જીવે ત્યાં સુધી ઈશ્વરને અર્પણ કરેલો છે.” અને એલ્કાના તથા તેના કુંટુબે ત્યાં ઈશ્વરનું ભજન કર્યું. શમુએલ ભજન કરવા ત્યાં જ રહ્યો.
