1 Samuel 9
1 Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiach, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor.
Vivía en Benjamín un hombre que se llamaba Kis, hijo de Abiel, hijo de Seror, hijo de Becorat, hijo de Afía, benjaminita. Era hombre valeroso y poderoso,
2 And he had a son whose name was Saul, young and handsome; and there was not a man among the children of Israel handsomer than he: from his shoulders and upward he was taller than any of the people.
y tenía un hijo llamado Saúl, el cual era un joven de tan bella presencia, que entre los hijos de Israel no había hombre más gallardo que él: desde los hombros arriba descollaba sobre todo el pueblo.
3 And there were lost the asses belonging to Kish, Saul's father; and Kish said to Saul his son, Do take with thee one of the servants, and arise, go seek the asses.
Ahora bien, se habían extraviado las asnas de Kis, padre de Saúl; por lo cual Kis dijo a Saúl su hijo: “Toma contigo uno de los criados y levántate para andar a buscar las asnas.”
4 And he passed through the mountain of Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found [them] not; then they passed through the land of Sha'alim, and there was nothing there; and he passed through the land of Benjamin, but they found them not.
Atravesaron ellos la montaña de Efraím, y recorrieron el país de Salisá, mas no las hallaron. Pasaron también por el país de Saalbim, y tampoco aparecieron. Recorrieron al fin el país de los benjaminitas sin encontrarlas.
5 When they were come in the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father relinquish the care for the asses, and become anxious for us.
Habían ya entrado en el país de Suf, cuando Saúl dijo a su criado que le acompañaba: “Vamos a volvernos, no sea que mi padre, dejando ya el cuidado de las asnas, esté intranquilo por nosotros.”
6 And the other said unto him, Behold now, a man of God is in this city, and the man is honored; all that he ever saith will surely come to pass: now let us go thither; perhaps he can tell us our way that we should go.
El criado le contestó: “Mira, hay en esta ciudad un varón de Dios, hombre muy famoso. Todo cuanto él dice, se cumple sin falta. Ahora, pues, vamos allá; quizá nos diga el camino por el cual debemos ir.”
7 Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we should go, what shall we bring to the man? for the bread is spent out of our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we with us?
Respondió Saúl a su criado: “Sí, vamos, pero ¿qué podemos llevar a ese hombre? No hay ya pan en nuestras alforjas, y no tenemos regalo que podríamos ofrecer al varón de Dios: ¿qué tenemos?”
8 And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here in my hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver; and I will give this to the man of God, that he may tell us our way.
El criado comenzó a hablar de nuevo y dijo a Saúl: “He aquí que tengo en mi mano un cuarto de siclo de plata; se lo daré al varón de Dios para que nos indique nuestro camino.”
9 In former times it was custom in Israel, that when a man went to inquire of God, he said thus, Come, and let us go as far as the seer; for the Prophet of the present day was in former times called a Seer.
Antiguamente los hombres de Israel cuando iban a consultar a Dios decían: “Venid, vamos al vidente”; pues al profeta le llamaban anteriormente vidente.
10 Then said Saul to his servant, Thy word is good: come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.
Dijo entonces Saúl a su criado: “Tu propuesta es buena; vamos, pues.” Y se fueron a la ciudad donde vivía el varón de Dios.
11 As they went up the ascent to the city, they found some maidens going out to draw water; and they said unto them, Is the seer here?
Subiendo la cuesta hacia la ciudad encontraron a unas doncellas que salían a sacar agua, y les preguntaron: “¿Está aquí el vidente?”
12 And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for this day came he to the city; because the people have a sacrifice today on the high-place;
Ellas contestaron diciendo: “Sí, está; mira allí, delante de ti. Pero date prisa; porque ha venido hoy a la ciudad, por cuanto hoy el pueblo ofrece un sacrificio en la altura.
13 As soon as ye are come into the city, ye will straightway find him, before yet he can go up to the high-place to eat; for the people will not eat until he be come, because he always blesseth the sacrifice; afterward eat those that are invited; and now go you up; for just today will ye surely find him.
En cuanto entréis en la ciudad, lo hallaréis antes que suba a la altura para comer; porque no comerá la gente hasta que él venga; pues suele bendecir el sacrificio, y después de esto comen los convidados. Subid, pues, en seguida, que lo hallaréis ahora mismo.”
14 And they went up into the city. They were entering into the city, when, behold, Samuel came out toward them, to go up to the high-place.
Subieron, pues, a la ciudad; y he aquí que cuando entraban en la ciudad se encontraron con Samuel que salía para subir a la altura.
15 And the Lord had revealed to Samuel's ear one day before Saul's coming, saying,
Ya un día antes de la llegada de Saúl, Yahvé había avisado a Samuel, diciendo:
16 About this time tomorrow will I send unto thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him as chief over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have beheld my people, because their cry is come unto me.
“Mañana a esta hora te enviaré un hombre del país de Benjamín, al cual ungirás por príncipe sobre Israel, mi pueblo; él salvará a mi pueblo del poder de los filisteos, pues he mirado a mi pueblo, por cuanto ha llegado a Mí su clamor.”
17 And when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord addressed him, Behold, the man of whom I spoke to thee, This one shall rule over my people.
Luego que Samuel vio a Saúl, Yahvé le dijo: “He aquí el hombre de quien te hablé. Este reinará sobre mi pueblo.”
18 And Saul drew near to Samuel within the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where is the house of the seer.
Entretanto, Saúl se acercó a Samuel en medio de la puerta y dijo: “Dime, por favor, dónde está la casa del vidente.”
19 And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high-place, and ye shall eat with me today; and I will let thee go in the morning, and all that is in thy heart will I tell thee.
Samuel respondió a Saúl, diciendo: “Yo soy el vidente; sube delante de mí a la altura. Comeréis hoy conmigo, y mañana te despediré; te diré también todo lo que tienes en tu corazón.
20 And as for thy asses that were lost unto thee this day three days ago, do not set thy heart on them; for they have been found. And to whom belongeth all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not to thee, and to all thy father's house?
Por las asnas que se te perdieron tres días ha, no te preocupes; han sido halladas. ¿Y para quién será lo más precioso en Israel? ¿No será para ti y para toda la casa de tu padre?”
21 And Saul answered and said, Am not I a son of Benjamin, of one of the smallest tribes of Israel? and [is not] my family the least of all the families of the tribes of Benjamin? wherefore then hast thou spoken to me such thing?
Respondió Saúl y dijo: “¿No soy yo un benjaminita, de la más pequeña de las tribus de Israel? ¿Y no es mi familia la mínima entre todas las familias de los linajes de Benjamín? ¿Por qué me hablas de esta manera?”
22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the apartment; and he assigned them a place at the head of the invited guests, who were about thirty persons.
Entonces tomó Samuel a Saúl y a su criado, y los introdujo en la sala, donde los colocó a la cabecera de los convidados, que eran unos treinta hombres.
23 And Samuel said unto the cook, Hand here the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Put it away by thee.
Y dijo Samuel al cocinero: “Dame la porción que te di, de la cual te dije: Guárdala contigo.”
24 And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was on it, and set it before Saul; and he said, Behold what is left! set it before thee, and eat; for unto this time hath it been kept from thee, since I said, I have invited the people. And Saul ate with Samuel on that day.
Sacó, pues el cocinero la espaldilla con lo que hay sobre ella, y la puso delante de Saúl, y dijo: “He aquí lo que quedó reservado; ponlo delante de ti y come; pues para este momento fue guardado para ti cuando invité al pueblo.” Y comió Saúl con Samuel aquel día.
25 And they went down from the high-place into the city, and he spoke with Saul upon the roof.
Después bajaron de la altura a la ciudad, y conversó Samuel con Saúl en el terrado.
26 And they got up early; and it came to pass when the morning-dawn arose, that Samuel called Saul to the roof, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both of them, he and Samuel, into the street.
Se levantaron muy de mañana, y al rayar el alba Samuel llamó a Saúl que estaba en el terrado, diciendo: “Levántate y te despediré.” Se levantó, pues, Saúl, y salieron fuera los dos, él y Samuel.
27 As they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Say to the servant that he pass on before us, —and he passed on, —but thou remain standing a while, and I will let thee hear the word of God.
Y cuando llegaron a la parte extrema de la ciudad, dijo Samuel a Saúl: “Di al criado que vaya delante de nosotros —y este pasó adelante—, pero tú, párate por ahora, para que te comunique una palabra de Dios.”
