1 Samuel 9
1 Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiach, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor.
Es war ein Mann aus Gibea in Benjamin, Namens Kis, ein Sohn Abiels, des Sohnes Zerors, des Sohnes Bechoraths, des Sohnes Apiahs, des Sohnes eines Benjaminiten, ein vermögender Mann.
2 And he had a son whose name was Saul, young and handsome; and there was not a man among the children of Israel handsomer than he: from his shoulders and upward he was taller than any of the people.
Der hatte einen Sohn namens Saul, stattlich und schön; es gab unter den Israeliten keinen schöneren Mann als ihn: um Haupteslänge überragte er jedermann im Volke.
3 And there were lost the asses belonging to Kish, Saul's father; and Kish said to Saul his son, Do take with thee one of the servants, and arise, go seek the asses.
Nun waren Kis, dem Vater Sauls, die Eselinnen verloren gegangen. Da gebot Kis seinem Sohne Saul: Nimm einen von den Knechten mit und mache dich auf den Weg, die Eselinnen zu suchen!
4 And he passed through the mountain of Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found [them] not; then they passed through the land of Sha'alim, and there was nothing there; and he passed through the land of Benjamin, but they found them not.
Da durchwanderten sie das Gebirge Ephraim und durchwanderten das Gebiet von Salisa, fanden sie aber nicht. Sodann durchwanderten sie das Gebiet von Saalim, aber sie waren nicht da. Sodann durchwanderten sie das Gebiet von Benjamin, fanden sie aber nicht.
5 When they were come in the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father relinquish the care for the asses, and become anxious for us.
Als sie nun ins Gebiet von Zuph gelangt waren, sagte Saul zu dem Knechte, den er bei sich hatte: Komm, laß uns heimkehren; sonst könnte mein Vater, statt um die Eselinnen, sich um uns sorgen!
6 And the other said unto him, Behold now, a man of God is in this city, and the man is honored; all that he ever saith will surely come to pass: now let us go thither; perhaps he can tell us our way that we should go.
Jener erwiderte ihm: Hier in dieser Stadt lebt ein Gottesmann, der Mann ist berühmt: alles, was er sagt, trifft sicher ein. Laß uns doch gleich hingehen; vielleicht giebt er uns Bescheid über den Weg, den wir unternommen haben.
7 Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we should go, what shall we bring to the man? for the bread is spent out of our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we with us?
Saul entgegnete seinem Knechte: Gut, aber falls wir nun hingehen, was bringen wir dem Manne? Denn das Brot ist uns ausgegangen in unsern Taschen, und ein Geschenk haben wir nicht, daß wir es dem Manne Gottes bringen könnten. Was haben wir?
8 And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here in my hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver; and I will give this to the man of God, that he may tell us our way.
Da erwiderte der Knecht Saul noch einmal und sprach: Ich habe da noch einen silbernen Viertelsekel bei mir, den magst du dem Gottesmanne geben, damit er uns sagt, welchen Weg wir einschlagen sollen.
9 In former times it was custom in Israel, that when a man went to inquire of God, he said thus, Come, and let us go as far as the seer; for the Prophet of the present day was in former times called a Seer.
Vor Zeiten sagte man in Israel, wenn man Gott befragen ging, also: Kommt, laßt uns zum Seher gehen! Denn die jetzt Propheten genannt werden, hießen vor Zeiten Seher.
10 Then said Saul to his servant, Thy word is good: come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.
Da sprach Saul zu seinem Knechte: Du hast recht. Komm, laß uns gehen! So gingen sie denn nach der Stadt, wo der Gottesmann war.
11 As they went up the ascent to the city, they found some maidens going out to draw water; and they said unto them, Is the seer here?
Während sie nun die Steige zur Stadt hinaufgingen, trafen sie Mädchen, die zum Wasserschöpfen herauskamen. Die fragten sie: Ist der Seher hier?
12 And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for this day came he to the city; because the people have a sacrifice today on the high-place;
Sie antworteten ihnen und sprachen: Jawohl, er ist da vor euch; eben jetzt ist er in die Stadt hereingekommen - das Volk feiert nämlich heute ein Opferfest auf der Höhe!
13 As soon as ye are come into the city, ye will straightway find him, before yet he can go up to the high-place to eat; for the people will not eat until he be come, because he always blesseth the sacrifice; afterward eat those that are invited; and now go you up; for just today will ye surely find him.
Wenn ihr in die Stadt kommt, werdet ihr ihn gerade noch antreffen, ehe er zur Mahlzeit nach der Opferstätte hinaufgeht. Denn das Volk ißt nicht eher, als bis er kommt; denn er segnet das Opfermahl, und erst dann essen die Geladenen. Geht also nur hinauf, denn eben jetzt könnt ihr ihn treffen!
14 And they went up into the city. They were entering into the city, when, behold, Samuel came out toward them, to go up to the high-place.
Da gingen sie hinauf zur Stadt. Als sie aber eben ins Stadtthor eingetreten waren, kam ihnen Samuel von drinnen entgegen, um zur Opferstätte hinaufzusteigen.
15 And the Lord had revealed to Samuel's ear one day before Saul's coming, saying,
Nun hatte Jahwe einen Tag, bevor Saul kam, Samuel folgende Offenbarung zu teil werden lassen:
16 About this time tomorrow will I send unto thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him as chief over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have beheld my people, because their cry is come unto me.
Morgen um diese Zeit werde ich dir einen Mann aus dem Gebiete Benjamins zusenden, den sollst du zum Fürsten über mein Volk Israel salben. Er wird mein Volk aus der Gewalt der Philister befreien; denn ich habe auf die Bedrückung meines Volks geachtet, da sein Hilferuf zu mir gedrungen ist.
17 And when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord addressed him, Behold, the man of whom I spoke to thee, This one shall rule over my people.
Während nun Samuel Sauls ansichtig wurde, hatte Jahwe ihm Bescheid gegeben: Da ist der Mann, von dem ich dir gesagt habe: der soll über mein Volk herrschen.
18 And Saul drew near to Samuel within the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where is the house of the seer.
Da trat Saul inmitten des Thors an Samuel heran und bat: Sage mir doch, wo der Seher wohnt!
19 And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high-place, and ye shall eat with me today; and I will let thee go in the morning, and all that is in thy heart will I tell thee.
Samuel erwiderte Saul: Ich bin der Seher; gehe mir voran hinauf zur Opferstätte. Ihr müßt heute mit mir essen; morgen früh will ich dich dann ziehen lassen und dir Bescheid geben über alles, was dich beschäftigt.
20 And as for thy asses that were lost unto thee this day three days ago, do not set thy heart on them; for they have been found. And to whom belongeth all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not to thee, and to all thy father's house?
Was aber die Eselinnen betrifft, die dir heute vor drei Tagen abhanden kamen, so sorge dich nicht um sie: sie haben sich gefunden. Wem aber gehört alles, was Wert hat in Israel? Nicht dir und deines Vaters ganzer Familie?
21 And Saul answered and said, Am not I a son of Benjamin, of one of the smallest tribes of Israel? and [is not] my family the least of all the families of the tribes of Benjamin? wherefore then hast thou spoken to me such thing?
Saul entgegnete: Ich bin doch nur ein Benjaminit, ein Abkömmling aus einem der kleinsten Stämme Israels; dazu ist mein Geschlecht das geringste von allen Geschlechtern des Stammes Benjamin: warum redest du da so zu mir?
22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the apartment; and he assigned them a place at the head of the invited guests, who were about thirty persons.
Samuel aber nahm Saul und seinen Knecht mit sich, führte sie in den Saal und wies ihnen an der Spitze der Geladenen Plätze an; deren waren ungefähr dreißig Mann.
23 And Samuel said unto the cook, Hand here the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Put it away by thee.
Und Samuel gebot dem Koch: Gieb das Stück her, das ich dir übergeben habe, das, von dem ich dir sagte: Hebe es auf!
24 And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was on it, and set it before Saul; and he said, Behold what is left! set it before thee, and eat; for unto this time hath it been kept from thee, since I said, I have invited the people. And Saul ate with Samuel on that day.
Da trug der Koch die Keule und den Fettschwanz auf und setzte sie Saul vor. Und er sprach: Da ist dir, was übrig blieb, vorgesetzt; iß, denn auf die bestimmte Zeit ist es dir aufgehoben, indem man sprach: das Volk habe ich geladen. So aß denn Saul an jenem Tage mit Samuel.
25 And they went down from the high-place into the city, and he spoke with Saul upon the roof.
Als sie dann von der Opferstätte nach der Stadt hinuntergegangen waren, bettete man Saul auf dem Dach,
26 And they got up early; and it came to pass when the morning-dawn arose, that Samuel called Saul to the roof, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both of them, he and Samuel, into the street.
und er legte sich schlafen. Als aber die Morgenröte anbrach, rief Samuel dem Saul nach dem Dache hinauf: Steh auf, daß ich dich geleite! Da stand Saul auf, und sie beide, er und Samuel, gingen hinaus.
27 As they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Say to the servant that he pass on before us, —and he passed on, —but thou remain standing a while, and I will let thee hear the word of God.
Während sie nun nach der Grenze des Stadtgebiets hinunterschritten, sagte Samuel zu Saul: Heiße den Knecht uns vorangehen; du selbst aber bleibe jetzt stehen, daß ich dir ein Gotteswort kundthue!
