1 Samuel 5
1 And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ha'ezer unto Ashdod.
Und die Philister hatten die Lade Gottes genommen und brachten sie von Eben-Eser nach Asdod.
2 And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
Und die Philister nahmen die Lade Gottes und brachten sie in das Haus Dagons [H. Dach= Fisch; eine Fischgottheit mit dem Kopf und den Händen eines Menschen und dem Rumpfe eines Fisches] und stellten sie neben Dagon.
3 And when the people of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was lying upon his face on the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him again in his place.
Und als die Asdoditer am anderen Tage früh aufstanden, siehe, da lag Dagon auf seinem Angesicht auf der Erde vor der Lade Jehovas; und sie nahmen Dagon und stellten ihn wieder an seinen Ort.
4 And when they arose early on the morning of the following day, behold, Dagon was lying upon his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the fish portion was left on him.
Und als die am anderen Tage des Morgens früh aufstanden, siehe, da lag Dagon auf seinem Angesicht auf der Erde vor der Lade Jehovas; und zwar lagen das Haupt Dagons und seine beiden Hände abgehauen auf der Schwelle, nur der Fischrumpf war an ihm übriggeblieben.
5 Therefore do the priests of Dagon, and all that come into Dagon's house, not step on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod even until this day.
Darum treten die Priester Dagons und alle, die in das Haus Dagons gehen, nicht auf die Schwelle Dagons in Asdod bis auf diesen Tag.
6 And the hand of the Lord became heavy upon the people of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with hemorrhoids, even Ashdod and its territory.
Und die Hand Jehovas lag schwer auf den Asdoditern, und er verwüstete sie; und er schlug sie mit Beulen, Asdod und sein Gebiet.
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not remain with us; for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our God.
Und als die Leute von Asdod sahen, daß dem also war, sprachen sie: Die Lade des Gottes Israels soll nicht bei uns bleiben; denn seine Hand ist hart über uns und über Dagon, unserem Gott.
8 And they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be removed unto Gath. And they removed the ark of the God of Israel thither.
Und sie sandten hin und versammelten alle Fürsten der Philister zu sich und sprachen: Was sollen wir mit der Lade des Gottes Israels tun? Und sie sprachen: Man schaffe die Lade des Gottes Israels nach Gath. Und sie schafften die Lade des Gottes Israels hin.
9 And it happened, after they had removed it, that the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great confusion; and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had hemorrhoids in their secret parts.
Und es geschah, nachdem sie sie hingeschafft hatten, da kam die Hand Jehovas über die Stadt, und es entstand eine sehr große Bestürzung; und er schlug die Leute der Stadt, vom Kleinen bis zum Großen, daß Beulen an ihnen ausbrachen.
10 And they sent away the ark of God to 'Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to 'Ekron, that the 'Ekronites cried out, saying, They have removed to us the ark of the God of Israel, to slay us and our people.
Da sandten sie die Lade Gottes nach Ekron. Und es geschah, als die Lade Gottes nach Ekron kam, da schrieen die Ekroniter und sprachen: Sie haben die Lade des Gottes Israels zu mir hergeschafft, um mich und mein Volk zu töten!
11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, that it may return to its own place, so that it may not slay us, and our people; for there was a confusion of death throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
Und sie sandten hin und versammelten alle Fürsten der Philister und sprachen: Sendet die Lade des Gottes Israels fort, daß sie an ihren Ort zurückkehre und mich und mein Volk nicht töte. Denn es war eine tödliche Bestürzung in der ganzen Stadt; die Hand Gottes war sehr schwer daselbst.
12 And the people that did not die were smitten with the hemorrhoids; and the lamentation of the city went up to heaven.
Und die Leute, die nicht starben, wurden mit Beulen geschlagen; und das Geschrei; der Stadt stieg zum Himmel empor.
