1 Samuel 26
1 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gib'ah, saying, Behold, David hideth himself on the hill of Chachilah, before the desert.
そのころジフびとがギベアにおるサウルのもとにきて言った、「ダビデは荒野の前にあるハキラの山に隠れているではありませんか」。
2 Then arose Saul, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, and with him were three thousand men chosen out of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
サウルは立って、ジフの荒野でダビデを捜すために、イスラエルのうちから選んだ三千人をひき連れて、ジフの荒野に下った。
3 And Saul encamped on the hill of Chachilah, which is before the desert by the way; but David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul was coming after him into the wilderness.
サウルは荒野の前の道のかたわらにあるハキラの山に陣を取った。ダビデは荒野にとどまっていたが、サウルが自分のあとを追って荒野にきたのを見て、
4 David thereupon sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come for a certainty.
斥候を出し、サウルが確かにきたのを知った。
5 And David arose, and came to the place where Saul was encamped; and David beheld the place where Saul lay, with Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army; and Saul was lying in the midst of the ring, and the people were encamped round about him.
そしてダビデは立って、サウルが陣を取っている所へ行って、サウルとその軍の長、ネルの子アブネルの寝ている場所を見た。サウルは陣所のうちに寝ていて、民はその周囲に宿営していた。
6 Then commenced David and said to Achimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruyah, the brother of Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will readily go down with thee.
ダビデは、ヘテびとアヒメレク、およびゼルヤの子で、ヨアブの兄弟であるアビシャイに言った、「だれがわたしと共にサウルの陣に下って行くか」。アビシャイは言った、「わたしが一緒に下って行きます」。
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the ring, with his spear stuck in the ground by his head; but Abner and the people were lying round about him.
こうしてダビデとアビシャイとが夜、民のところへ行ってみると、サウルは陣所のうちに身を横たえて寝ており、そのやりは枕もとに地に突きさしてあった。そしてアブネルと民らとはその周囲に寝ていた。
8 Then said Abishai to David, God hath surrendered this day thy enemy into thy hand: and now let me strike him through, I pray thee, with the spear, even to the earth with one blow, and I will not give him a second one.
アビシャイはダビデに言った、「神はきょう敵をあなたの手に渡されました。どうぞわたしに、彼のやりをもってひと突きで彼を地に刺しとおさせてください。ふたたび突くには及びません」。
9 But David said to Abishai, Destroy him not; for who hath stretched forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, and remained guiltless?
しかしダビデはアビシャイに言った、「彼を殺してはならない。主が油を注がれた者に向かって、手をのべ、罪を得ない者があろうか」。
10 David said farthermore, As the Lord liveth, the Lord alone shall strike him down: either his day shall come that he die; or he shall go down into battle, and perish.
ダビデはまた言った、「主は生きておられる。主が彼を撃たれるであろう。あるいは彼の死ぬ日が来るであろう。あるいは戦いに下って行って滅びるであろう。
11 Far be this from me for the sake of the Lord, that I should stretch forth my hand against the Lord's anointed; but now, I pray thee, take thou the spear that is by his head, and the cruise of water, and let us go our way.
主が油を注がれた者に向かって、わたしが手をのべることを主は禁じられる。しかし今、そのまくらもとにあるやりと水のびんを取りなさい。そしてわれわれは去ろう」。
12 So David took the spear and the cruise of water by the head of Saul, and they went their way; and no one saw it, and no one perceived it, and-no one awaked; for they were all sleeping; because a deep sleep from the Lord was fallen upon them.
こうしてダビデはサウルの枕もとから、やりと水のびんを取って彼らは去ったが、だれもそれを見ず、だれも知らず、また、だれも目をさまさず、みな眠っていた。主が彼らを深く眠らされたからである。
13 Then went David over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mount afar off, the space between them being great.
ダビデは向こう側に渡って行って、遠く離れて山の頂に立った。彼らの間の隔たりは大きかった。
14 And David called to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Wilt thou not answer, Abner? And Abner answered and said, Who art thou that callest to the king?
ダビデは民とネルの子アブネルに呼ばわって言った、「アブネルよ、あなたは答えないのか」。アブネルは答えて言った、「王を呼んでいるあなたはだれか」。
15 And David said to Abner, Art thou not a man? and who is like to thee in Israel? why then hast thou not kept guard over thy lord the king? for there came one of the people to destroy the king thy lord.
ダビデはアブネルに言った、「あなたは男ではないか。イスラエルのうちに、あなたに及ぶ人があろうか。それであるのに、どうしてあなたは主君である王を守らなかったのか。民のひとりが、あなたの主君である王を殺そうとして、はいりこんだではないか。
16 This thing which thou hast done is not good. As the Lord liveth, ye deserve to die; because ye have not kept guard over your master, over the Lord's anointed. And now see, where is the king's spear, and the cruise of water that was by his head?
あなたがしたこの事は良くない。主は生きておられる。あなたがたは、まさに死に値する。主が油をそそがれた、あなたの主君を守らなかったからだ。いま王のやりがどこにあるか。その枕もとにあった水のびんがどこにあるかを見なさい」。
17 And Saul recognized David's voice, and he said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my Lord, O king.
サウルはダビデの声を聞きわけて言った、「わが子ダビデよ、これはあなたの声か」。ダビデは言った、「王、わが君よ、わたしの声です」。
18 And he said, Why is this that my lord doth pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in my hand?
ダビデはまた言った、「わが君はどうしてしもべのあとを追われるのですか。わたしが何をしたのですか。わたしの手になんのわるいことがあるのですか。
19 And now, I pray thee, let my Lord the king hear the words of his servant! If the Lord have stirred thee up against me, then may he accept the savor of an offering; but if they be the children of men, then be they cursed before the Lord; because they have driven me out this day so that I cannot attach myself on the inheritance of the Lord, saying, Go, serve other gods.
王、わが君よ、どうぞ、今しもべの言葉を聞いてください。もし主があなたを動かして、わたしの敵とされたのであれば、どうぞ主が供え物を受けて和らいでくださるように。もし、それが人であるならば、どうぞその人々が主の前にのろいを受けるように。彼らが『おまえは行って他の神々に仕えなさい』と言って、きょう、わたしを追い出し、主の嗣業にあずかることができないようにしたからです。
20 Now, therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth far from the presence of the Lord; for the king of Israel is come out to seek a single flea, as one doth usually pursue a partridge on the mountains.
それゆえ今、主の前を離れて、わたしの血が地に落ちることのないようにしてください。イスラエルの王は、人が山で、しゃこを追うように、わたしの命を取ろうとして出てこられたのです」。
21 Then said Saul, I have sinned; return, my son David; for I will not do thee harm any more, for the cause that my life was precious in thy eyes this day: behold, I have acted foolishly, and have erred exceedingly much.
その時、サウルは言った、「わたしは罪を犯した。わが子ダビデよ、帰ってきてください。きょう、わたしの命があなたの目に尊く見られたゆえ、わたしは、もはやあなたに害を加えないであろう。わたしは愚かなことをして、非常なまちがいをした」。
22 And David answered and said, Behold, here is the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.
ダビデは答えた、「王のやりは、ここにあります。ひとりの若者に渡ってこさせ、これを持ちかえらせてください。
23 And may the Lord recompense to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; since the Lord delivered thee into my hand today, and I would not stretch forth my hand against the anointed of the Lord.
主は人おのおのにその義と真実とに従って報いられます。主がきょう、あなたをわたしの手に渡されたのに、わたしは主が油を注がれた者に向かって、手をのべることをしなかったのです。
24 And behold, as thy life was highly valued this day in my eyes, so may my life be highly valued in the eyes of the Lord, and may he deliver me out of all tribulation.
きょう、わたしがあなたの命を重んじたように、どうぞ主がわたしの命を重んじて、もろもろの苦難から救い出してくださるように」。
25 Then said Saul to David, Blessed be thou my son David: thou wilt both do great things, and wilt also surely prevail. And David went then on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
サウルはダビデに言った、「わが子ダビデよ、あなたはほむべきかな。あなたは多くの事をおこなって、それをなし遂げるであろう」。こうしてダビデはその道を行き、サウルは自分の所へ帰った。
