1 Samuel 23
1 Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Ke'ilah, and they are plundering the threshing-floors.
On dit à David: « Voici que les Philistins attaquent Keïla et pillent les aires de battage. »
2 Thereupon David asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite among these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go and smite among the Philistines, and deliver Ke'ilah.
David consulta Yahvé, en disant: « Irai-je frapper ces Philistins? » Yahvé dit à David: « Va frapper les Philistins, et sauve Keïla. »
3 And David's men said unto him, Behold, here in Judah are we afraid: how much more then if we should go to Ke'ilah against the battle-arrays of the Philistines?
Les hommes de David lui dirent: « Voici, nous avons peur ici en Juda. Combien plus encore si nous allons à Keïla contre les armées des Philistins? »
4 Then David asked yet again counsel of the Lord. And the Lord answered him and said, Arise, Go down to Ke'ilah; for I [will] deliver the Philistines into thy hand.
Et David consulta de nouveau Yahvé. Yahvé lui répondit: « Lève-toi, descends à Keïla, car je livrerai les Philistins entre tes mains. »
5 So David and his men went to Ke'ilah; and he fought with the Philistines, and lead away their cattle, and smote among them a great slaughter. So David delivered the inhabitants of Ke'ilah.
David et ses hommes allèrent à Keïla, combattirent les Philistins, emmenèrent leur bétail et les tuèrent dans un grand carnage. David sauva ainsi les habitants de Keïla.
6 And it came to pass, when Ebyathar the son of Achimelech, fled over to David, to Ke'ilah, that the ephod came down with him.
Lorsque Abiathar, fils d'Ahimélec, s'enfuit vers David à Keïla, il descendit avec un éphod à la main.
7 And it was told to Saul that David was come to Ke'ilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.
On annonça à Saül que David était arrivé à Keïla. Saül dit: « Dieu l'a livré entre mes mains, car il est enfermé en entrant dans une ville qui a des portes et des barres. »
8 And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Ke'ilah, to besiege David and his men.
Saül convoqua tout le peuple à la guerre, pour descendre à Keïla et assiéger David et ses hommes.
9 And David understood that Saul secretly devised mischief against him; and he said to Ebyathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.
David savait que Saül préparait un mauvais coup contre lui. Il dit au prêtre Abiathar: « Apporte l'éphod ici. »
10 Then said David, O Lord, God of Israel, thy servant hath heard for certain that Saul seeketh to come to Ke'ilah, to destroy the city for my sake.
David dit alors: « Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, ton serviteur a appris que Saül cherche à venir à Keïla pour détruire la ville à cause de moi.
11 Will the men of Ke'ilah surrender me into his hand? will Saul come down as thy servant hath heard? O Lord, God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the Lord said, He will come down.
Les hommes de Keïla me livreront-ils entre ses mains? Saül descendra-t-il, comme ton serviteur l'a appris? Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël, je t'en prie, dis-le à ton serviteur. » Yahvé a dit: « Il descendra. »
12 Then said David, Will the men of Ke'ilah surrender me and my men into the hand of Saul! And the Lord said, They will surrender.
David dit alors: « Les hommes de Keila me livreront-ils, moi et mes hommes, entre les mains de Saül? » Yahvé a dit: « Ils te livreront. »
13 Then arose David and his men, about six hundred men, and departed out of Ke'ilah, and wandered about whithersoever they could go. And when it was told to Saul that David was escaped from Ke'ilah, he forbore to go forth.
Et David et ses hommes, qui étaient environ six cents, se levèrent et partirent de Keïla et allèrent où ils purent. Saül apprit que David s'était échappé de Keïla, et il renonça à s'y rendre.
14 And David remained in the wilderness in strong-holds, and abode on the mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him all the time, but God delivered him not into his hand.
David resta dans le désert, dans les forteresses, et demeura dans la région des collines, dans le désert de Ziph. Saül le cherchait chaque jour, mais Dieu ne le livra pas entre ses mains.
15 And David saw that Saul was gone forth to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the forest.
David vit que Saül était sorti pour chercher sa vie. David était dans le désert de Ziph, dans les bois.
16 And Jonathan, the son of Saul, arose and went to David into the forest, and strengthened his hand in God.
Jonathan, fils de Saül, se leva et alla vers David dans la forêt, et il affermit sa main en Dieu.
17 And he said unto him, Fear not; for the hand of Saul my father will not find thee; and thou wilt be king over Israel, and I will be next unto thee; and also Saul my father knoweth this.
Il lui dit: « Ne crains pas, car la main de Saül, mon père, ne te trouvera pas; tu seras roi d'Israël et je serai à côté de toi, et Saül, mon père, le sait aussi. »
18 And they made, both of them, a covenant before the Lord: and David remained in the forest; but Jonathan went to his house.
Ils firent tous deux une alliance devant Yahvé. Puis David resta dans la forêt et Jonathan alla dans sa maison.
19 Then came up the Ziphites unto Saul to Gib'ah, saying, Behold, David is hiding himself with us in the strong-holds in the forest, on the hill of Chachilah, which is on the right of the desert.
Alors les Ziphites montèrent vers Saül à Guibea, et dirent: David ne se cache-t-il pas avec nous dans les forteresses de la forêt, sur la colline de Hakila, qui est au sud du désert?
20 And now in accordance with all the longing of thy soul, O king, to come down, come down; and our part shall be to surrender him into the king's hand.
Maintenant donc, ô roi, descends. Selon tout le désir de ton âme, descends; et notre part sera de le livrer entre les mains du roi. »
21 And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the Lord; for ye have pity on me.
Saül dit: « Tu es béni de Yahvé, car tu as eu pitié de moi.
22 Go, I pray you, make yet more preparations, and remark and see his place where his foot may be, who hath seen him there; for I am told that he dealeth with great subtilty.
Je t'en prie, va t'en assurer encore davantage, savoir et voir où est son repaire, et qui l'y a vu, car on m'a dit qu'il est très rusé.
23 See therefore, and remark every one of all the lurking-places where he usually hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you; and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.
Vois donc, et prends connaissance de tous les repaires où il se cache; puis reviens me voir avec certitude, et je t'accompagnerai. S'il est dans le pays, je le chercherai parmi tous les milliers de Juda. »
24 And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Ma'on, in the plain on the right of the desert.
Ils se levèrent et allèrent à Ziph avant Saül; mais David et ses hommes étaient dans le désert de Maon, dans la plaine, au sud du désert.
25 And Saul and his men went to make a search. And they told it to David: wherefore he came down to the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Ma'on. And when Saul heard this, he pursued after David into the wilderness of Ma'on.
Saül et ses hommes allèrent à sa recherche. A cette nouvelle, David descendit au rocher et resta dans le désert de Maon. Lorsque Saül apprit cela, il poursuivit David dans le désert de Maon.
26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David made haste to get away from before Saul; and Saul and his men were compassing David and his men to seize them.
Saül allait de ce côté de la montagne, et David et ses hommes de l'autre côté de la montagne. David se hâtait de s'enfuir par crainte de Saül, car Saül et ses hommes entouraient David et ses hommes pour les prendre.
27 But a messenger came unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.
Mais un messager arriva à Saül en disant: « Dépêche-toi de venir, car les Philistins ont fait une incursion dans le pays! ».
28 Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammachlekoth.
Saül s'en retourna donc de la poursuite de David et alla à l'encontre des Philistins. C'est pourquoi on appela ce lieu Sela Hammahlekoth.
29 And David went up from there, and dwelt in strong-holds of 'En-gedi.
David monta de là et habita dans les forteresses d'En Gedi.
