< 1 Samuel 17 >

1 And the Philistines gathered together their camps to battle, and they gathered themselves together at Sochoh, which belongeth to Judah; and they encamped between Sochoh and 'Azekah, at Ephess-dammim.

2 And Saul and the men of Israel gathered themselves together, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and put themselves in battle-array opposite to the Philistines.
Saulu àti àwọn ọmọ Israẹli wọ́n kò ara wọ́n jọ pọ̀, wọ́n sì pàgọ́ ní àfonífojì Ela, wọ́n sì gbé ogun wọn sókè ní ọ̀nà láti pàdé àwọn Filistini.
3 And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and the Israelites stood on a mountain on the other side: and the valley was between them.
Àwọn Filistini sì wà ní orí òkè kan àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì wà ní orí òkè mìíràn, àfonífojì sì wà láàrín wọn.
4 And there went out the champion out of the camp of the Philistines, Goliath of Gath was his name, whose height was six cubits and a span.
Ọ̀gágun tí a ń pè ní Goliati, tí ó jẹ́ ará Gati, ó wá láti ibùdó Filistini. Ó ga ní ìgbọ̀nwọ́ mẹ́fà àti ìnà ìka kan ní ìbú.
5 And he had a helmet of copper upon his head, and he was clothed with a scaly coat of mail; and the weight of the coat of mail was five thousand shekels of copper.
Ó ní àṣíborí idẹ ní orí rẹ̀, ó sì wọ ẹ̀wù tí a fi idẹ pẹlẹbẹ ṣe, ìwọ̀n ẹ̀wù náà sì jẹ́ ẹgbẹ̀rún márùn-ún ṣékélì idẹ.
6 And he had greaves of copper upon his legs, and a javelin of copper between his shoulders.
Òun sì wọ ìhámọ́ra idẹ sí ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀ àti àpáta idẹ kan láàrín ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀.
7 And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and the blade of his spear [weighed] six hundred shekels of iron: and the shield-bearer was walking before him.
Ọ̀pá ọ̀kọ̀ rẹ̀ rí bí apásá ìhunṣọ, orí ọ̀kọ̀ rẹ̀ sì wọn ẹgbẹ̀ta kilogiramu méje irin, ẹni tí ó ru asà ogun rẹ̀ lọ ṣáájú u rẹ̀.
8 And he stood and calleth unto the arrays of Israel, and said unto them, Why will ye come out to put yourselves in battle-array? Behold: I am the Philistine, and ye are servants to Saul! select for yourselves one man, and let him come down to me;
Goliati dìde, ó sì kígbe sí ogun Israẹli pé, “Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi jáde wá, tí ẹ ṣe tò fún ogun? Ṣé èmi kì í ṣe Filistini ni, àbí ẹ̀yin kì í ṣe ìránṣẹ́ Saulu? Yan ọkùnrin kan kí o sì jẹ́ kí ó sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ mi.
9 If he be able to fight with me, and he kill me, then will we be unto you as servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be unto us as servants, and ye shall serve us.
Tí òhun bá sì le jà tí ó sì pa mí, àwa yóò di ẹrú u yín, ṣùgbọ́n tí èmi bá lè ṣẹ́gun rẹ̀ tí mo sì pa á, ẹ̀yin yóò di ẹrú u wa, ẹ̀yin yóò sì máa sìn wá.”
10 And the Philistine said, I have defied the arrays of Israel this day; give me a man, and let us fight together.
Nígbà náà Filistini náà wí pé, “Èmi fi ìjà lọ ogun Israẹli ní òní! Ẹ mú ọkùnrin kan wá kí ẹ sì jẹ́ kí a bá ara wa jà.”
11 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were disheartened, and became greatly afraid.

12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lechem-judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was old in the days of Saul, belonging to the persons [of high esteem].

13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse were gone following Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that were gone to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and the next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.

14 And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.

15 But David kept going and returning from Saul to feed his father's flocks at Beth-lechem.

16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.

17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take, I pray thee, for thy brothers an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brothers;

18 And these ten cheeses shalt thou bring unto the captain of the thousand, and inquire of thy brothers how they fare, and take away their pledge.
Kí o sì mú wàrà mẹ́wàá yìí lọ́wọ́ fún adarí ogun tiwọn. Wo bí àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n rẹ ṣe wà kí o sì padà wá fún mi ní àmì ìdánilójú láti ọ̀dọ̀ wọn.
19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
Wọ́n wà pẹ̀lú Saulu àti gbogbo àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli ní àfonífojì Ela, wọ́n bá àwọn Filistini jà.”
20 And David rose up early in the morning, and gave up the flocks to a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the entrenchment, as the host was going forth in battle-array, and shouted the battle-cry.

21 And the Israelites and the Philistines put themselves in battle-array, army against army.
Israẹli àti Filistini lọ sí ojú ìjà wọ́n da ojú ìjà kọ ara wọn.
22 And David left the articles which he had on him in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran into the array, and came and asked of his brothers after their welfare.
Dafidi sì kó ẹrù rẹ̀ ti àwọn olùtọ́jú ohun èlò, ó sì sálọ sí ojú ogun ó sì kí àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n rẹ̀.
23 And as he was speaking with them, behold, there came up the champion, Goliath the Philistine, by name, of Gath, out of the battle-arrays of the Philistines, and spoke in accordance with these same words: and David heard it.
Bí ó ṣe ń bá wọn sọ̀rọ̀, Goliati akíkanjú Filistini tí ó wá láti Gati bọ́ sí iwájú ní ojú ogun, ó sì kígbe fún ìpèníjà, Dafidi sì gbọ́.
24 And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from before him, and were greatly afraid.
Nígbà tí àwọn Israẹli rí ọkùnrin náà, gbogbo wọn sì sá fún un ní ìbẹ̀rù bojo.
25 And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is coming forth? for to defy Israel is he coming forth; and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, —him will the king enrich with great riches, and his daughter will he give him, and his father's house will he make free in Israel.
Nígbà náà ni àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli wí pé, “Ǹjẹ́ ẹ̀yin kò rí i bí ọkùnrin yìí ṣe ń jáde wá? Ó jáde wá láti pe Israẹli níjà. Ọba yóò fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá pa á ní ọrọ̀ púpọ̀. Yóò tún fi ọmọ rẹ̀ obìnrin fún un ní ìyàwó, yóò sì sọ ilé e baba rẹ̀ di òmìnira kúrò nínú sísan owó orí ní Israẹli.”
26 And David said to the men that stood by him, thus, What shall be done to the man that may smite yon Philistine, and take away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the arrays of the living God?
Dafidi béèrè lọ́wọ́ ọkùnrin tí ó dúró ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ ẹ rẹ̀ pé, “Kí ni a yóò ṣe fún ọkùnrin náà tí ó bá pa Filistini yìí, tí ó sì mú ẹ̀gàn kúrò lára Israẹli? Ta ni aláìkọlà Filistini tí ó jẹ́ wí pé yóò máa gan ogun Ọlọ́run alààyè?”
27 And the people spoke to him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that may smite him.
Wọ́n tún sọ fún un ohun tí wọ́n ti ń sọ, wọ́n sì wí pé, “Èyí ni ohun tí wọn yóò ṣe fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá pa á.”
28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he was speaking unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why didst thou come down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy presumption, and the wickedness of thy heart; for in order to see the battle art thou come down.

29 And David said, What have I now done? It is nothing but a word.
Dafidi wí pé, “Kí ni mo ṣe nísinsin yìí? Ǹjẹ́ mo lè sọ̀rọ̀ bí?”
30 And he turned from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner: and the people made him again a reply after the former manner.
Ó sì yípadà sí ẹlòmíràn, ó sì ń sọ̀rọ̀ kan náà, ọkùnrin náà sì dáhùn bí ti ẹni ìṣáájú.
31 And the words which David had spoken were heard, and they told them in the presence of Saul, who sent for him.
Àwọn ènìyàn gbọ́ ohun tí Dafidi sọ wọ́n sọ fún Saulu, Saulu sì ránṣẹ́ sí i.
32 And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him: thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
Dafidi sọ fún Saulu pé, “Kí ẹnikẹ́ni má ṣe ba ọkàn jẹ́ nítorí Filistini yìí, ìránṣẹ́ rẹ yóò lọ láti bá a jà.”
33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go unto this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a lad, and he [hath been] a man of war from his youth.
Saulu sì wí fún Dafidi pé, “Ìwọ kò tó láti jáde lọ pàdé ogun Filistini yìí àti láti bá a jà; ọmọdé ni ìwọ, òun sì ti ń jagun láti ìgbà èwe rẹ̀ wá.”
34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant was feeding his father's flocks, and there came a lion, and a bear, and bore off a lamb out of the drove;
Ṣùgbọ́n Dafidi sọ fún Saulu pé, “Ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ ti ń tọ́jú agbo àgùntàn baba rẹ̀. Nígbà tí kìnnìún tàbí àmọ̀tẹ́kùn bá wá láti wá gbé àgùntàn láti inú igbó.
35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he rose up against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
Mo sá tẹ̀lé e, mo lù ú, mo sì gba àgùntàn náà kúrò lẹ́nu rẹ̀. Nígbà tí ó kọjú sí mi, mo fi irun rẹ̀ gbá a mú, mo sì lù ú mo sì pa á.
36 Both the lion and the bear did thy servant smite: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall become as one of them; because he hath defied the arrays of the living God.
Ìránṣẹ́ rẹ ti pa kìnnìún àti àmọ̀tẹ́kùn, aláìkọlà Filistini yìí yóò jẹ́ ọ̀kan lára wọn, nítorí ó ti pe ogun Ọlọ́run alààyè ní ìjà.
37 Moreover David said, The Lord who hath delivered me out of the power of the lion, and out of the power of the bear, will also surely deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and may the Lord be with thee.
Olúwa tí ó gbà mí kúrò lọ́wọ́ ìhàlẹ̀ kìnnìún àti ti ìhàlẹ̀ àmọ̀tẹ́kùn yóò gbà mí kúrò lọ́wọ́ Filistini yìí.” Saulu wí fún Dafidi pé, “Lọ kí Olúwa wà pẹ̀lú rẹ.”
38 And Saul clothed David with his garments, and he put a helmet of copper upon his head; and he clothed him also with a coat of mail.
Saulu fi aṣọ àwọ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ rẹ̀ wọ Dafidi, ó wọ̀ ọ́ ní aṣọ ìhámọ́ra ogun, ó sì fi ìbòrí idẹ kan bò ó ní orí.
39 And David girded his sword over his garments, and he essayed to go; for he had not tried it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot walk in these [things]; for I have never tried it before. And David put them off from him.
Dafidi si di idà rẹ̀ mọ́ àwọ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ rẹ̀ ó sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí ní rìn káàkiri nítorí wí pé kò mọ́ ọ lára. Ó sọ fún Saulu pé, “Èmi kò le wọ èyí lọ, kò mọ́ mi lára.” Ó sì bọ́ wọn kúrò.
40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's pouch which be had, even in a scrip, with his sling in his hand; and he approached to the Philistine.
Nígbà náà, ó sì mú ọ̀pá rẹ̀ lọ́wọ́, ó ṣá òkúta dídán márùn-ún létí odò, ó kó wọn sí àpò olùṣọ́-àgùntàn tí ó wà lọ́wọ́ rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú kànnàkànnà, ó sì súnmọ́ Filistini náà.
41 And the Philistine went and drew nearer and nearer unto David; and the man that bore the shield went before him.
Lákòókò yìí, Filistini pẹ̀lú ẹni tí ń gbé ìhámọ́ra ààbò wà níwájú rẹ̀, ó ń bọ̀ wá sọ́dọ̀ Dafidi.
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a lad, and ruddy, with a fair appearance.
Nígbà tí Filistini náà sì wo Dafidi láti òkè délẹ̀, ó sì rí i wí pé ọmọ kékeré kùnrin ni, ó pọ́n ó sì lẹ́wà lójú, ó sì kẹ́gàn an rẹ̀.
43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest unto me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
Ó sì wí fún Dafidi pé, “Ṣé ajá ni mí ni? Tí o fi tọ̀ mí wá pẹ̀lú ọ̀pá?” Filistini sì fi Dafidi bú pẹ̀lú Ọlọ́run rẹ̀.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the heavens, and to the beasts of the field.
Filistini náà sì wí Dafidi pé, “Wá níbí, èmi yóò fi ẹran-ara rẹ fún àwọn ẹyẹ ojú ọ̀run jẹ àti fún àwọn ẹranko tí ó wà nínú igbó!”
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest unto me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the arrays of Israel, that thou hast defied.
Dafidi sì wí fún Filistini pé, “Ìwọ dojú ìjà kọ mí pẹ̀lú idà, ọ̀kọ̀ àti ọfà, ṣùgbọ́n èmi wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ pẹ̀lú orúkọ Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun, Ọlọ́run àwọn ọmọ-ogun Israẹli tí ìwọ tí gàn.
46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and remove thy head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the army of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; and all the earth shall know that there is a God for Israel.
Lónìí yìí ni Olúwa yóò fi ọ́ lé mi lọ́wọ́, èmi yóò sì pa ọ́, èmi yóò sì gé orí rẹ. Lónìí èmi yóò fi òkú ogun Filistini fún ẹyẹ ojú ọ̀run àti fún ẹranko igbó, gbogbo ayé yóò sì mọ̀ pé Ọlọ́run wà ní Israẹli.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not through sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you up into our hand.
Gbogbo àwọn tí ó péjọ níbí ni yóò mọ̀ pé kì í ṣe nípa ọ̀kọ̀ tàbí idà ni Olúwa fi ń gbàlà; ogun náà ti Olúwa ni, yóò sì fi gbogbo yín lé ọwọ́ wa.”
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and went and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the battle-array to meet the Philistine.
Bí Filistini ṣe súnmọ́ iwájú láti pàdé e rẹ̀. Dafidi yára sáré sí òun náà láti pàdé e rẹ̀.
49 And David put his hand into the pouch, and took thence a stone, and slung it, and he struck the Philistine on his forehead, and the stone sunk into his forehead: and he fell upon his face to the ground.
Dafidi ti ọwọ́ sí àpò rẹ̀, ó sì mú òkúta jáde wá ó sì fì í, ó sì jù ú sí ọ̀kọ́kán iwájú orí Filistini. Òkúta náà sì wọ̀ ọ́ níwájú orí, ó sì ṣubú ó sì dojúbolẹ̀ ní orí ilẹ̀.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with the sling and with the stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
Dafidi yọ ayọ̀ ìṣẹ́gun lórí Filistini pẹ̀lú kànnàkànnà àti òkúta, láìsí idà ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀, ó lu Filistini, ó sì pa á.
51 And David ran, and stood by the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they fled.
Dafidi sì sáré ó sì dúró lórí rẹ̀. Ó sì mú idà Filistini, ó sì fà á yọ nínú àkọ̀ ọ rẹ̀. Lẹ́yìn ìgbà tí ó ti pa á tan, ó sì gé orí rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú idà. Nígbà tí àwọn ará Filistini rí i wí pé akọni wọn ti kú, wọ́n yípadà wọ́n sì sálọ.
52 And then arose the men of Israel and of Judah, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to the valley, and to the gates of 'Ekron. And the slain of the Philistines fell down by the way to Sha'arayim, even as far as Gath, and up to 'Ekron.

53 And the children of Israel returned from hotly pursuing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their camps.
Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì padà láti máa lé àwọn ará Filistini, wọ́n sì ba ibùdó wọn jẹ́.
54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but his weapons he placed in his tent.
Dafidi gé orí Filistini ó sì gbé e wá sí Jerusalẹmu, ó sì kó àwọn ohun ìjà Filistini sínú àgọ́ tirẹ̀.
55 And when Saul saw David going forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the army, Abner, whose son is this lad? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I know it not.
Bí Saulu sì ti wo Dafidi bí ó ṣe ń jáde lọ pàdé Filistini, ó wí fún Abneri, olórí àwọn ológun rẹ̀ pé, “Abneri, ọmọ ta ni ọmọdékùnrin yìí?” Abneri dáhùn pe, “Bí ọkàn rẹ̀ ti ń bẹ ní ààyè, ọba èmi kò mọ̀.”
56 And the king said, Ask thou whose son this youth is.
Ọba sì wí pé, “Wádìí ọmọ ẹni tí ọmọdékùnrin náà ń ṣe.”
57 And as David returned from smiting the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
Kété tí ó dé láti ibi tí ó ti lọ pa Filistini, Abneri sì mú u wá síwájú Saulu, orí Filistini sì wà ní ọwọ́ Dafidi.
58 And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, young man? And David answered, The son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lechemite.
Saulu béèrè pé, “Ọmọdékùnrin, ọmọ ta ni ọ́?” Dafidi dáhùn pé, “Èmi ni ọmọ ìránṣẹ́ rẹ Jese ti Bẹtilẹhẹmu.”
