1 Samuel 16

1 And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him so as not to reign over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lechemite; for I have selected among his sons unto myself a king.

Y dijo el SEÑOR a Samuel: ¿Hasta cuándo has tú de llorar a Saúl, habiéndolo yo desechado para que no reine sobre Israel? Llena tu cuerno de aceite, y ven, te enviaré a Isaí de Belén; porque de sus hijos me he provisto de rey.

2 And Samuel said, How shall I go? if Saul should hear it, he would kill me. And the Lord said, Take a heifer with thee, and say, To sacrifice unto the Lord am I come.

Y dijo Samuel: ¿Cómo iré? Si Saúl lo entendiere, me matará. El SEÑOR respondió: Toma contigo una becerra, y di: A sacrificar al SEÑOR he venido.

3 And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will let thee know what thou shalt do; and thou shalt anoint unto me the one whom I will say unto thee.

Y llama a Isaí al sacrificio, y yo te enseñaré lo que has de hacer; y me ungirás al que yo te dijere.

4 And Samuel did that which the Lord had spoken, and came to Beth-lechem. And the elders of the town came hastily to meet him, and said, Peace to thee at thy coming.

Y Samuel hizo como le dijo el SEÑOR; y cuando él llegó a Belén, los ancianos de la ciudad le salieron a recibir con miedo, y dijeron: ¿Es pacífica tu venida?

5 And he said, Peace: to sacrifice unto the Lord am I come; sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.

Y él respondió: Sí, vengo a sacrificar al SEÑOR; santificaos, y venid conmigo al sacrificio. Y santificando él a Isaí y a sus hijos, los llamó al sacrificio.

6 And it came to pass, when they came, that he saw Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord's anointed is [here] before him.

Y aconteció que cuando ellos vinieron, él vio a Eliab, y dijo: ¿Por ventura está delante del SEÑOR su ungido?

7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Regard not his appearance, nor the height of his stature; because I have rejected him; for not what man looketh on; —for man looketh on the eyes, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

Y el SEÑOR respondió a Samuel: No mires a su parecer, ni a la altura de su estatura, porque yo lo desecho; porque no es lo que el hombre ve. Porque el hombre ve lo que está delante de sus ojos, mas el SEÑOR ve el corazón.

8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and caused him to pass before Samuel. And he said, This one also hath the Lord not chosen.

Entonces llamó Isaí a Abinadab, y le hizo pasar delante de Samuel, el cual dijo: Ni a éste ha elegido el SEÑOR.

9 Then Jesse caused Shammah to pass by. And he said, This one also hath the Lord not chosen.

Hizo luego pasar Isaí a Sama. Y él dijo: Tampoco a éste ha elegido el SEÑOR.

10 And Jesse caused seven of his sons to pass before Samuel: and Samuel said unto Jesse, The Lord hath not made choice of these.

E hizo pasar Isaí sus siete hijos delante de Samuel; mas Samuel dijo a Isaí: el SEÑOR no ha elegido a éstos.

11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are there not more young men? And he said, There is yet left behind the youngest, and, behold, he is feeding the flocks. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he have come hither.

Entonces dijo Samuel a Isaí: ¿Se han acabado los jóvenes? Y él respondió: Aún queda el menor, que apacienta las ovejas. Y dijo Samuel a Isaí: Envía por él, porque no nos sentaremos a la mesa hasta que él venga aquí.

12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, having withal handsome eyes, and being of a goodly appearance. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.

Envió, pues, por él, y lo introdujo; el cual era rojo, (de buen color), de hermoso parecer y de bello aspecto. Entonces el SEÑOR dijo: Levántate y úngelo, que éste es.

13 Then took Samuel the horn of oil, and anointed him from among his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came suddenly upon David from that day and forward. And Samuel then rose up, and went to Ramah.

Y Samuel tomó el cuerno del aceite, y lo ungió de entre sus hermanos; y desde aquel día en adelante el Espíritu del SEÑOR tomó a David. Y levantándose Samuel, se volvió a Ramá.

14 And the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and there troubled him an evil spirit from the Lord.

Y el Espíritu del SEÑOR se apartó de Saúl, y le atormentaba el espíritu malo de parte del SEÑOR.

15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

Y los criados de Saúl le dijeron: He aquí ahora, que el espíritu malo de parte de Dios te atormenta.

16 Let our Lord but say [the word], and thy servants, now before thee, will seek out a man, who is skilful as a player on the harp; and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, that thou mayest be well.

Diga, pues, nuestro señor a tus siervos que están delante de ti, que busquen alguno que sepa tocar el arpa; para que cuando fuere sobre ti el espíritu malo de parte de Dios, él taña con su mano, y tengas alivio.

17 And Saul said unto his servants, Select for me, I pray you, a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

Y Saúl respondió a sus criados: Buscadme, pues, ahora alguno que taña bien, y traédmelo.

18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lechemite, who is skilful as a player, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and intelligent in speech, and a person of a good form, and the Lord is with him.

Entonces uno de los criados respondió, diciendo: He aquí yo he visto a un hijo de Isaí de Belén, que sabe tocar, y es valiente y vigoroso, y hombre de guerra, prudente en sus palabras, y hermoso, y el SEÑOR es con él.

19 Thereupon Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, who is with the flocks.

Y Saúl envió mensajeros a Isaí, diciendo: Envíame a David tu hijo, el que está con las ovejas.

20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them through David his son unto Saul.

Y tomó Isaí un asno cargado de pan, y un cántaro de vino y un cabrito, y lo envió a Saúl por mano de David su hijo.

21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him; and he loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer.

Y viniendo David a Saúl, estuvo delante de él; y él lo amó mucho, y fue hecho su paje de armas.

22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my eyes.

Y Saúl envió a decir a Isaí: Yo te ruego que esté David conmigo; porque ha hallado gracia en mis ojos.

23 And it came to pass, when the spirit of God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand; so Saul became relieved, and he felt well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

Y cuando el espíritu malo de parte de Dios era sobre Saúl, David tomaba el arpa, y tañía con su mano; y Saúl tenía refrigerio, y estaba mejor, y el espíritu malo se apartaba de él.
