1 Samuel 11
1 Then came up Nachash the 'Ammonite, and encamped against Yabesh-gil'ad: and all the men of Yabesh said unto Nachash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
Y subió Naas Ammonita, y asentó campo contra Jabes de Galaad. Y todos los de Jabes dijeron a Naas: Haz alianza con nosotros, y servirte hemos.
2 And Nachash the 'Ammonite said unto them, On this condition will I make it with you, that ye all have put out the right eye, that I may lay it as a reproach upon all Israel.
Y Naas Ammonita les respondió: Con esta condición haré alianza con vosotros, que a cada uno de todos vosotros saque el ojo derecho, y ponga esta vergüenza sobre todo Israel.
3 And the elders of Yabesh said unto him, Grant us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers throughout all the boundary of Israel; and then, if there be none to save us, will we come out to thee.
Y los ancianos de Jabes le dijeron: Dános siete días, para que enviemos mensajeros en todos los términos de Israel: y si nadie hubiere que nos defienda, saldremos a ti.
4 And the messengers came to Gib'ah of Saul, and spoke the words in the ears of the people; and all the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
Y llegando los mensajeros a Gabaa de Saul, dijeron estas palabras en oídos del pueblo: y todo el pueblo lloró a alta voz.
5 And, behold, Saul was coming after the herds out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the words of the men of Yabesh.
Y, he aquí, Saul que venía del campo tras los bueyes: y dijo Saul: ¿Qué tiene el pueblo, que lloran? y contáronle las palabras de los varones de Jabes.
6 And the spirit of God came suddenly over Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was kindled greatly,
Y el Espíritu de Dios arrebató a Saul en oyendo estas palabras, y encendióse en ira en gran manera.
7 And he took a yoke of oxen, and cut them in pieces, and sent them about throughout all the boundary of Israel by the hand of the messengers, saying, Whosoever goeth not forth after Saul and after Samuel, shall have his herds thus treated. And the dread of the Lord fell on the people, and they went out as one man.
Y tomando un par de bueyes, cortólos en piezas, y enviólos por todos los términos de Israel por mano de mensajeros, diciendo: Cualquiera que no saliere en pos de Saul, y en pos de Samuel, así será hecho a sus bueyes. Y cayó temor de Jehová sobre el pueblo; y salieron todos como un hombre.
8 And he numbered them in Bezek; and the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
Y contólos en Bezec, y fueron los hijos de Israel trescientos mil: y los varones de Judá, treinta mil.
9 And they said unto the messengers that were come, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Yabesh-gil'ad, Tomorrow shall ye have help, when the sun shineth hot. And the messengers came and told it to the men of Yabesh; and these were glad.
Y respondieron a los mensajeros que habían venido: Así diréis a los de Jabes de Galaad: Mañana en calentando el sol, tendréis salud. Y vinieron los mensajeros, y declaráronlo a los de Jabes, los cuales se holgaron.
10 And the men of Yabesh said, Tomorrow will we go out unto you, and ye can do unto us in accordance with all that seemeth good in your eyes.
Y los de Jabes dijeron: Mañana saldremos a vosotros, para que hagáis con nosotros todo lo que bien os pareciere.
11 And it happened on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and they smote the 'Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that those that remained were scattered, and no two among them were left together.
Y el día siguiente Saul puso el pueblo en orden en tres escuadrones: y vinieron en medio del real a la vela de la mañana, e hirieron a los Ammonitas hasta que el día se calentaba; y los que quedaron, se derramaron, que no quedaron dos de ellos juntos.
12 And the people said unto Samuel, Who is there that saith, Shall Saul reign over us? give up the men, and we will put them to death.
El pueblo entonces dijo a Samuel: ¿Quién son los que decían? ¿Reinará Saul sobre nosotros? Dad aquellos hombres, y matarlos hemos,
13 And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death on this day; for today the Lord hath wrought deliverance in Israel.
Y Saul dijo: No morirá hoy alguno; porque hoy ha obrado Jehová salud en Israel.
14 And Samuel said to the people, Come and let us go to Gilgal, and renew there the choice of the king.
Mas Samuel dijo al pueblo: Veníd, vamos a Galgal para que renovemos allí el reino.
15 And all the people went to Gilgal; and they appointed there Saul as king before the Lord in Gilgal; and they sacrificed there sacrifices of peace-offerings before the Lord; and Saul with all the men of Israel rejoiced there very greatly.
Y fue todo el pueblo a Galgal, y envistieron allí a Saul por rey delante de Jehová en Galgal. Y sacrificaron allí víctimas pacíficas delante de Jehová: y alegráronse mucho allí Saul y todos los de Israel.
