1 Kings 1
1 Now king David was old, stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he could not become warm.
राजा दावीद अब बहुत बूढ़े हो चुके थे. उन्हें ओढ़ाया अवश्य जाता, था मगर कपड़े उनके शरीर को गर्म नहीं रख पा रहे थे.
2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let them seek out for my lord the king a young virgin, and let her stand before the king, and let her be an attendant on him; and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may become warm.
इसलिये उनके सेवकों ने उन्हें सलाह दी, “महाराज, हमारे स्वामी के लिए एक जवान लड़की की खोज की जाए, वह महाराज की सेवा करे और उनके सामने ही रहे. वही आपकी गोद में सोया करे, कि महाराज, हमारे स्वामी की देह गर्म रह सके.”
3 So they sought for a fair maiden throughout all the territory of Israel; and they found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
तब उन्होंने पूरे इस्राएल में एक सुंदर लड़की को खोजना शुरू कर दिया. उन्हें शुनाम देश में ऐसी लड़की मिल गई, जिसका नाम था अबीशाग. वे उसे राजा के सामने ले आए.
4 And the maiden was exceedingly fair; and she became an attendant on the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.
यह जवान लड़की बहुत ही सुंदर थी. उसे राजा की सेविका बना दिया गया, वह उनकी सेवा करने में लग गई; मगर राजा ने उसके साथ शारीरिक संबंध नहीं बनाए.
5 And Adoniyah the son of Chaggith exalted himself, saying, I shall be king: and he procured himself a chariot and horsemen, and fifty men who ran before him.
उसी समय हेग्गीथ के पुत्र अदोनियाह ने अपने आपको ऊंचा उठाते हुए यह घोषणा की: “अगला राजा मैं हूं.” उसने अपने लिए रथ और घुड़सवार भी तैयार कर लिए और अपने आगे-आगे दौड़ने के लिए पचास सैनिक भी.
6 And his father had never grieved him in all his life by saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was of a very goodly form; and his mother had born him after Abshalom.
उसके पिता ने उससे यह प्रश्न करते हुए कभी नहीं रोका: “तुमने ऐसा क्यों किया है?” अदोनियाह एक सुंदर युवक था. उसका जन्म अबशालोम के ठीक बाद ही हुआ था.
7 And he had conferences with Joab the son of Zeruyah, and with Ebyathar the priest: and they, following Adoniyah, helped him.
अदोनियाह ने जाकर ज़ेरुइयाह के पुत्र योआब और पुरोहित अबीयाथर से मिलकर बातचीत की. उन्होंने अदोनियाह की तरफ होकर उसकी सहायता भी की.
8 But Zadok the priest, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and Nathan the prophet, and Shim'i, and Re'i, and the mighty men that belonged to David, were not with Adoniyah.
मगर पुरोहित सादोक, यहोयादा का पुत्र बेनाइयाह, भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान, शिमेई, रेइ और दावीद के वीर योद्धाओं ने अदोनियाह को समर्थन नहीं दिया.
9 And Adoniyah slaughtered sheep and oxen and fatted cattle by the stone Zocheleth, which is by 'En-rogel; and he invited all his brothers the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants;
अदोनियाह ने एन-रोगेल नामक स्थान पर जाकर ज़ोहेलेथ नामक चट्टान के पास भेड़ों, बैलों और हष्ट-पुष्ट पशुओं की बलि चढ़ाई. इस मौके पर उसने अपने सभी भाइयों—राजकुमारों और यहूदिया के राजकीय अधिकारियों को तो आमंत्रित किया था,
10 But Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he invited not.
मगर उसने इस मौके पर न तो भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान को, न तो बेनाइयाह को न अपने भाई शलोमोन को और न किसी वीर योद्धा को आमंत्रित किया.
11 And Nathan spoke unto Bath-sheba' the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adoniyah the son of Chaggith is become king, and [that] David our lord knoweth it not?
नाथान ने शलोमोन की माता बैथशेबा से कहा, “क्या तुमने सुना नहीं कि हेग्गीथ का पुत्र अदोनियाह राजा बन गया है, और दावीद हमारे स्वामी इससे अनजान हैं?”
12 And now come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thy own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
इसलिये अब मेरी सलाह सुनो, कि तुम अपना और अपने पुत्र शलोमोन का जीवन सुरक्षित रख सको:
13 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy hand-maid, saying, Assuredly, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne? why then is Adoniyah become king?
इसी समय राजा दावीद से जाकर कहो, “महाराज, मेरे स्वामी, क्या आपने अपनी दासी से यह शपथ न ली थी, ‘मेरे बाद तुम्हारा पुत्र शलोमोन ही राजा बनेगा, वही मेरे सिंहासन पर बैठेगा? तो फिर अदोनियाह राजा कैसे बन बैठा?’
14 And, lo, while thou shalt be yet speaking there with the king, I myself will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.
जब तुम राजा से बातचीत कर ही रही होगी, मैं वहां तुम्हारे पीछे-पीछे आ जाऊंगा और तुम्हारी बातों में हामी भरूंगा.”
15 And Bath-sheba' went in unto the king into the chamber, and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering unto the king.
तब बैथशेबा राजा के कमरे में गई. राजा बहुत ही बूढ़े हो चुके थे और शूनामी अबीशाग उनकी सेवा में लगी थी.
16 And Bath-sheba' bowed, and prostrated herself unto the king: and the king said, What wouldst thou?
बैथशेबा ने झुककर राजा को नमस्कार किया. राजा ने उससे पूछा, “क्या चाहती हो तुम?”
17 And she said unto him, My lord, thou thyself didst swear by the Lord thy God unto thy hand-maid, Assuredly, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne.
बैथशेबा ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “मेरे स्वामी, आपने अपनी सेविका से याहवेह, आपके परमेश्वर की शपथ ली थी, ‘तुम्हारा पुत्र शलोमोन ही मेरे बाद राजा होगा, और वह मेरे राज सिंहासन पर बैठेगा.’
18 And now, behold, Adoniyah is become king; and now, my lord, O king, thou knowest it not:
अब देखिए, अदोनियाह राजा बन बैठा है, जबकि महाराज, मेरे स्वामी, आपको इसके बारे में पता ही नहीं है.
19 And he hath slaughtered oxen and fatted cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath invited all the sons of the king, and Ebyathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but Solomon thy servant hath he not invited.
अदोनियाह ने बड़ी संख्या में बैलों, हष्ट-पुष्ट पशुओं और भेड़ों की बलि चढ़ाई है, और उसने राजा के सभी पुत्रों को पुरोहित अबीयाथर और सेनापति योआब को भी बुलाया है, मगर आपके सेवक शलोमोन को इसके लिए नहीं बुलाया गया है.
20 And as for thee, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, to tell them, who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
महाराज, मेरे स्वामी, इस समय सारे इस्राएल की नज़रें आप पर लगी हैं, कि आप यह घोषणा करें कि महाराज, मेरे स्वामी के बाद कौन सिंहासन पर बैठेगा.
21 Otherwise it would come to pass, when my lord the king sleepeth with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon may be counted offenders.
नहीं तो यही होगा कि जैसे ही आप मेरे स्वामी हमेशा के लिए अपने पूर्वजों में जा मिलेंगे, मुझे और मेरे पुत्र शलोमोन को अपराधी घोषित कर दिया जाएगा.”
22 And, lo, while she was yet speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.
बैथशेबा राजा से यह बातें कर ही रही थी, कि भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान वहां आ गए.
23 And they told the king, saying, Behold, here is Nathan the prophet: and when he was come in before the king, he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground.
उन्हें बताया गया, “भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान आए हैं.” जब भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान राजा के सामने पहुंचे, उन्होंने राजा को दंडवत किया.
24 And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou then said, Adoniyah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
इसके बाद नाथान ने कहा, “महाराज, मेरे स्वामी, क्या यह आपकी घोषणा है ‘मेरे बाद अदोनियाह राज करेगा, वही मेरे सिंहासन पर बैठेगा?’
25 For he is gone down this day, and hath slaughtered oxen and fatted cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath invited all the king's sons, and the captains of the army, and Ebyathar the priest: and, behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and they say, Long live king Adoniyah.
क्योंकि आज उसने जाकर बैल, हष्ट-पुष्ट पशु और बड़ी मात्रा में भेड़ों की बलि चढ़ाई है. इस मौके पर उसने सभी राजकुमारों, सेनापतियों और पुरोहित अबीयाथर को भी आमंत्रित किया है. ये सभी इस समय उसकी उपस्थिति में यह कहते हुए खुशी मना रहे है. ‘अदोनियाह सदा जीवित रहे!’
26 But as for me, me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and thy servant Solomon, hath he not invited.
मगर अदोनियाह ने मुझे, हां मुझे, आपके सेवक को, पुरोहित सादोक को, यहोयादा के पुत्र बेनाइयाह और आपके सेवक शलोमोन को नहीं बुलाया है.
27 Can it be that this hath been done by order of my lord the king, and thou hast not informed thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
क्या, यह सब महाराज, मेरे स्वामी द्वारा किया गया है, और आपने अपने इन सेवकों को इस बात की सूचना देना सही न समझा, कि महाराज, मेरे स्वामी के बाद उनके सिंहासन पर कौन बैठेगा?”
28 Then answered king David, and said, Call me Bath-sheba'; and she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.
जब राजा दावीद ने यह सुना, उन्होंने आदेश दिया, “मेरे सामने बैथशेबा को बुलाया जाए.” बैथशेबा आकर राजा के सामने खड़ी हो गई.
29 And the king swore and said, As the Lord liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,
राजा ने यह शपथ लेते हुए कहा, “जीवित याहवेह की शपथ, जिन्होंने मुझे हर एक मुसीबत में से निकाला है,
30 Even as I have sworn unto thee by the Lord the God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne in my stead: even so will I certainly do this day.
मैंने इस्राएल के परमेश्वर, याहवेह के सामने जो शपथ ली थी, ‘तुम्हारा पुत्र शलोमोन मेरे बाद राजा होगा और वही मेरी जगह पर मेरे सिंहासन पर बैठेगा,’ मैं आज ठीक यही पूरा करूंगा.”
31 Then did Bath-sheba' bow herself with her face to the earth, and prostrate herself unto the king; and she said, May my lord, the king David, live for ever!
यह सुन बैथशेबा ने झुककर राजा को दंडवत करते हुए कहा, “राजा दावीद, मेरे स्वामी, सदा जीवित रहें.”
32 And king David said, Call unto me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada'. And they came before the king.
राजा दावीद ने आदेश दिया, “पुरोहित सादोक, भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान और यहोयादा के पुत्र बेनाइयाह को मेरे सामने बुलाया जाए.” जब वे राजा के सामने आए,
33 And the king said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon my own mule, and conduct him down to Gichon:
राजा ने उन्हें आदेश दिया, “मेरे पुत्र शलोमोन को मेरे निज खच्चर पर चढ़ाकर उसे अपने स्वामी के सेवकों के साथ लेकर गीहोन चले जाओ.
34 And let Zadok the priest with Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel; and blow ye with the cornet, and say, Long live king Solomon.
वहां पहुंचकर पुरोहित सादोक और भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान इस्राएल का राजा होने के लिए शलोमोन को अभिषेक करें. इसके बाद नरसिंग फूंकने के साथ यह घोषणा की जाए. ‘राजा शलोमोन सदा जीवित रहें!’
35 Then shall ye go up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; and he shall be king in my stead: and him have I ordained to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.
आप सभी इसके बाद शलोमोन के पीछे-पीछे आएं. तब वह यहां आकर मेरे राज सिंहासन पर बैठे कि वह मेरे बाद मेरी जगह पर राजा हो जाए; क्योंकि खुद मैंने उसे यहूदिया और इस्राएल पर राजा बनाया है.”
36 And Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' answered the king, and said, Amen: May thus say the Eternal the God of my lord the king.
यहोयादा के पुत्र बेनाइयाह ने राजा से कहा, “आमेन! महाराज, मेरे स्वामी के परमेश्वर, याहवेह भी ऐसा ही कहें.
37 As the Eternal hath been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and may he make his throne greater than the throne of my lord the king David.
जिस प्रकार याहवेह महाराज, मेरे स्वामी के साथ साथ रहे हैं, उसी प्रकार वह शलोमोन के साथ साथ बने रहें, और उसके सिंहासन को मेरे स्वामी, राजा दावीद के सिंहासन से भी अधिक बढ़ाएं.”
38 Thereupon Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and conducted him to Gichon.
तब पुरोहित सादोक, भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान, यहोयादा का पुत्र बेनाइयाह और केरेथि और पेलेथी शलोमोन को राजा दावीद के निज खच्चर पर बैठाकर उसे गीहोन ले गए.
39 And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew with the cornet; and all the people said, Long live king Solomon.
वहां पुरोहित सादोक ने मिलनवाले तंबू से लाए हुए सींग के तेल से शलोमोन का अभिषेक किया. तब उन्होंने नरसिंगा फूंका और सभी ने एक आवाज में यह नारे लगाए: “राजा शलोमोन सदा जीवित रहें!”
40 And all the people went up after him, and the people blew on flutes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth was rent at their noise.
तब सारी भीड़ बड़े ही आनंद में बांसुरी बजाते हुए राजा के पीछे-पीछे चलने लगी. इतनी तेज थी उनकी आवाज कि इससे धरती डोल उठी!
41 And Adoniyah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had just finished eating: and when Joab heard the sound of the cornet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city in an uproar?
यह आवाज अदोनियाह और उसके सभी अतिथियों ने भी सुनी. इस समय वे अपना भोजन खत्म कर ही रहे थे. जैसे ही योआब ने नरसिंगे की आवाज सुनी, वह पूछने लगा, “नगर में इस चिल्लाहट का कारण क्या है?”
42 And while he was yet speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Ebyathar the priest came in: and Adoniyah said [unto him], Come in; for thou art a worthy man, and must bring good tidings.
वह यह पूछताछ कर ही रहा था, कि पुरोहित अबीयाथर का पुत्र योनातन वहां आ पहुंचा. अदोनियाह ने उससे कहा, “यहां आओ तुम भले व्यक्ति हो, इसलिये भला समाचार ही लाए होगे.”
43 And Jonathan answered and said to Adoniyah, Alas, no; our lord king David hath made Solomon king;
योनातन ने उसे उत्तर दिया, “नहीं! हमारे स्वामी, महाराज दावीद ने शलोमोन को राजा बना दिया है.
44 And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule;
राजा दावीद ने उसे पुरोहित सादोक, भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान, यहोयादा के पुत्र बेनाइयाह और केरेथि और पेलेथी भी उसके साथ भेजे हैं. इसके अलावा उन्होंने शलोमोन को राजा दावीद के निज खच्चर पर भी चढ़ा दिया है.
45 And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him as king on the Gichon; and they are come up from there rejoicing, and the city hath been set in commotion. This is the noise that ye have heard.
पुरोहित सादोक और भविष्यद्वक्ता नाथान ने गीहोन में शलोमोन का राजाभिषेक कर दिया है. वे सभी वहां से बड़ी ही खुशी में लौटे हैं. इसलिये नगर में यह आनंद मनाने की आवाज सुनाई दे रही है. यही है वह चिल्लाहट, जो आपने सुनी है.
46 And Solomon hath also sat on the kingly throne.
इन सबके अलावा अब शलोमोन राज सिंहासन पर बैठे हैं.
47 And also the king's servants are come to bless our lord king David, saying, May God make the name of Solomon more famous than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne: and the king hath bowed himself upon the bed.
वह सब होने के बाद राजा के सेवकों ने जाकर महाराज, हमारे स्वामी को यह कहते हुए बधाईयां दी है ‘परमेश्वर शलोमोन के नाम को आपके नाम से भी अधिक ऊंचा करें, उनके राज सिंहासन को आपके राज सिंहासन से भी अधिक बढ़ाएं.’ यह सुन महाराज ने अपने पलंग पर ही दंडवत किया.
48 And also thus hath the king said, Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who hath given [me] this day one who sitteth on my throne, while my eyes see it.
साथ ही राजा ने यह भी कहा, ‘धन्य हैं, याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर, जिन्होंने आज किसी को मेरे सिंहासन पर बैठने के लिए चुना है, और उसे खुद मेरी आंखों ने देख लिया है.’”
49 And all the guests that were with Adoniyah were terrified, and rose up, and went, every man, on his own way.
यह सुन अदोनियाह के सभी अतिथि बहुत ही डर गए. वे सभी उसी समय उठकर अपने-अपने रास्ते पर निकल गए.
50 And Adoniyah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
फिर अदोनियाह मन ही मन शलोमोन से डरने लगा; इसलिये उसने तुरंत जाकर वेदी के सींग पकड़ लिए. शलोमोन को इस बात की ख़बर इस प्रकार दी गई:
51 And it was told unto Solomon, saying, Behold, Adoniyah feareth king Solomon; and, behold, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me today that he will not slay his servant with the sword.
“सुनिए, सुनिए! अदोनियाह महाराज से डरता है, इसलिये उसने जाकर यह कहते हुए वेदी के सींग थाम लिए हैं, ‘आज महाराज शलोमोन यह शपथ लें, कि वह अपने सेवक को तलवार से नहीं मारेंगे.’”
52 And Solomon said, If he will become a worthy man, there shall not a hair of his fall to the earth; but if any wrong shall be found on him, then shall he die.
शलोमोन ने उत्तर दिया, “यदि वह अपने आपको एक अच्छा व्यक्ति साबित करे, उसका ज़रा सा भी नुकसान न होगा; मगर यदि उसमें दुष्टता का अंश भी पाया गया तो उसकी मृत्यु तय है.”
53 So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar; and he came and bowed himself to king Solomon; and Solomon said unto him, Go to thy house.
राजा शलोमोन ने आदेश दिया कि उसे वेदी से लाकर उनके सामने पेश किया जाए. वह लाया गया, और उसे राजा शलोमोन के सामने पेश किया गया. वह आया और राजा शलोमोन के सामने दंडवत हो गया. राजा शलोमोन ने उसे आदेश दिया, “आप अपने घर को लौट जाइए.”
