1 Kings 5
1 And Hiram the king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father; for Hiram had all the time been a lover of David.
Hiram aussi Roi de Tyr envoya ses serviteurs vers Salomon, ayant appris qu'on l'avait oint pour Roi en la place de son père; car Hiram avait toujours aimé David.
2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
Et Salomon envoya vers Hiram pour lui dire:
3 Thou well knowest of David my father, that he was not able to build a house unto the name of the Lord his God, on account of the war wherewith his enemies encompassed him, until the Lord had put them under the soles of his feet.
Tu sais que David mon père n'a pu bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Eternel son Dieu, à cause des guerres qui l'ont environné, jusqu'à ce que l'Eternel a eu mis ses [ennemis] sous ses pieds.
4 But now hath the Lord my God given me rest on every side, there is neither adversary nor evil hinderance.
Et maintenant l'Eternel mon Dieu m'a donné du repos tout alentour, et je n'ai point d'ennemis, ni d'affaire fâcheuse.
5 And, behold, I purpose to build a house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord hath spoken unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will place in thy room upon thy throne, he it is that shall build the house unto my name.
Voici donc je prétends bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Eternel mon Dieu, selon que l'Eternel en a parlé à David mon père en disant: Ton fils que je mettrai en ta place sur ton trône sera celui qui bâtira une maison à mon Nom.
6 And now command thou that they hew me cedar-trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants; and the wages of thy servants will I give unto thee in accordance with all that thou wilt say; for thou well knowest that there is not among us a man that hath the skill to hew timber like unto the Zidonians.
C'est pourquoi commande maintenant qu'on coupe des cèdres du Liban, et que mes serviteurs soient avec tes serviteurs; et je te donnerai pour tes serviteurs telle récompense que tu me diras; car tu sais qu'il n'y a point de gens parmi nous qui s'entendent comme les Sidoniens, à couper le bois.
7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly; and he said, Blessed be the Lord this day, who hath given unto David a wise son over this numerous people.
Or il arriva que quand Hiram eut entendu les paroles de Salomon, il s'en réjouit fort, et dit: Béni soit aujourd'hui l'Eternel, qui a donné à David un fils sage [pour être Roi] sur ce grand peuple.
8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have heard what thou hast sent to me for: I will gladly execute all thy desire in respect of timber of cedar, and in respect of timber of fir.
Hiram envoya donc vers Salomon pour [lui] dire: J'ai entendu ce que tu m'as envoyé dire, et je ferai tout ce que tu veux au sujet du bois de cèdre et du bois de sapin.
9 My servants shall bring them down from the Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place of which thou wilt send me word, and I will cause them to be taken apart there, and thou shalt take them away; and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving the food for my household.
Mes serviteurs les amèneront depuis le Liban jusqu'à la mer, puis je les ferai mettre sur la mer par radeaux, jusqu'au lieu que tu m'auras marqué, et je les ferai là délier, et tu les prendras, et de ton côté tu me satisferas en fournissant de vivres ma maison.
10 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar-trees and fir-trees, all his desire.
Hiram donc donnait du bois de cèdre et du bois de sapin à Salomon, autant qu'il en voulait.
11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand kors of wheat as provision for his household, and twenty kors of beaten oil: thus did Solomon give to Hiram year by year.
Et Salomon donnait à Hiram vingt mille Cores de froment pour la nourriture de sa maison, et vingt Cores d'huile très-pure; Salomon en donnait autant à Hiram chaque année.
12 And the Lord gave wisdom unto Solomon, as he had spoken to him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they made a covenant with each other.
Et l'Eternel donna de la sagesse à Salomon, comme l'Eternel lui [en] avait parlé; et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils traitèrent alliance ensemble.
13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
Le Roi Salomon fit aussi une levée [de gens] sur tout Israël, et la levée fut de trente mille hommes.
14 And he sent them into the Lebanon, ten thousand in each month by turns; one month they used to be in the Lebanon, two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.
Et il en envoyait dix mille au Liban chaque mois, tour à tour, ils étaient un mois au Liban, et deux mois en leur maison; et Adoniram [était commis] sur cette levée.
15 And there belonged to Solomon seventy thousand bearers of burdens, and eighty thousand stone-cutters in the mountains;
Salomon avait aussi soixante-dix mille hommes qui portaient les faix, et quatre-vingt mille qui coupaient le bois sur la montagne;
16 Besides the chiefs who were appointed by Solomon over the work, three thousand and three hundred, who ruled over the people that wrought on the work.
Sans les Chefs des Commis de Salomon, qui avaient la charge de l'ouvrage, au nombre de trois mille trois cents, lesquels commandaient au peuple qui était employé à ce travail.
17 And when the king commanded, they quarried out great stones, heavy stones, to lay the foundation of the house, and hewn stones.
Et par le commandement du Roi, on amena de grandes pierres, et des pierres de prix, pour faire le fondement de la maison, qui étaient toutes taillées.
18 And the builders of Solomon, and the builders of Hiram, and the Giblites hewed them; and so they prepared the wood and the stones to build the house.
De sorte que les maçons de Salomon, et les maçons d'Hiram, et les tailleurs de pierres taillèrent et préparèrent le bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison.
