1 Kings 4
1 Thus was king Solomon king over all Israel.
| ויהי המלך שלמה מלך על כל ישראל׃ |
2 And these were the princes whom he had: 'Azaryahu the son of Zadok the priest;
| ואלה השרים אשר לו עזריהו בן צדוק הכהן׃ |
3 Elichoreph and Achiyah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Achilud, the recorder;
| אליחרף ואחיה בני שישא ספרים יהושפט בן אחילוד המזכיר׃ |
4 And Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' over the army; and Zadok and Ebyathar priests;
| ובניהו בן יהוידע על הצבא וצדוק ואביתר כהנים׃ |
5 And Azaryahu the son of Nathan was over the superintendents; and Zabud the son of Nathan was an officer of state and the king's friend;
| ועזריהו בן נתן על הנצבים וזבוד בן נתן כהן רעה המלך׃ |
6 And Achishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of 'Abda was over the tribute.
| ואחישר על הבית ואדנירם בן עבדא על המס׃ |
7 And Solomon had twelve superintendents over all Israel, who provided for the king and his household: one month in the year had the particular one to procure provisions.
| ולשלמה שנים עשר נצבים על כל ישראל וכלכלו את המלך ואת ביתו חדש בשנה יהיה על אחד לכלכל׃ |
8 And these are their names: Ben-chur on the mountain of Ephraim;
| ואלה שמותם בן חור בהר אפרים׃ |
9 Ben-deker, in Makaz, and in Sha'albim, and Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-chanan;
| בן דקר במקץ ובשעלבים ובית שמש ואילון בית חנן׃ |
10 Ben-chessed, in Arubboth; to him pertained Sochoh and all the land of Chepher;
| בן חסד בארבות לו שכה וכל ארץ חפר׃ |
11 Ben-abinadab, in all the district of Dor; he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon for wife;
| בן אבינדב כל נפת דאר טפת בת שלמה היתה לו לאשה׃ |
12 Ba'ana the son of Achilud in Tha'anach and Megiddo, and all Beth-shean, which is by Zarethanah beneath Yizre'el, from Beth-shean to Abel-mecholah, as far as beyond Yokme'am;
| בענא בן אחילוד תענך ומגדו וכל בית שאן אשר אצל צרתנה מתחת ליזרעאל מבית שאן עד אבל מחולה עד מעבר ליקמעם׃ |
13 Ben-geber, in Ramoth-gil'ad; to him pertained the villages of Ya'ir the son of Menasseh, which are in Gil'ad; to him also pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and brazen bars;
| בן גבר ברמת גלעד לו חות יאיר בן מנשה אשר בגלעד לו חבל ארגב אשר בבשן ששים ערים גדלות חומה ובריח נחשת׃ |
14 Achinadab the son of 'Iddo in Machanayim;
| אחינדב בן עדא מחנימה׃ |
15 Achima'az in Naphtali; he also took Bahsemath the daughter of Solomon for wife;
| אחימעץ בנפתלי גם הוא לקח את בשמת בת שלמה לאשה׃ |
16 Ba'anah the son of Chushai in Asher and in Be'aloth;
| בענא בן חושי באשר ובעלות׃ |
17 Jehoshaphat the son of Paruach, in Issachar;
| יהושפט בן פרוח ביששכר׃ |
18 Shim'i the son of Ela, in Benjamin;
| שמעי בן אלא בבנימן׃ |
19 Geber the son of Uri in the country of Gil'ad, the country of Sichon the king of the Emorites, and of 'Og the king of Bashan; besides the one superintendent who was in the land.
| גבר בן ארי בארץ גלעד ארץ סיחון מלך האמרי ועג מלך הבשן ונציב אחד אשר בארץ׃ |
20 Judah and Israel were numerous, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude; and they ate and drank, and made merry.
| יהודה וישראל רבים כחול אשר על הים לרב אכלים ושתים ושמחים׃ |
21 And Solomon was ruling over all the kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and as far as the boundary of Egypt, which brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
| ושלמה היה מושל בכל הממלכות מן הנהר ארץ פלשתים ועד גבול מצרים מגשים מנחה ועבדים את שלמה כל ימי חייו׃ |
22 And Solomon's provision for one day was thirty kors of fine flour, and sixty kors of meal,
| ויהי לחם שלמה ליום אחד שלשים כר סלת וששים כר קמח׃ |
23 Ten fatted oxen, and twenty pasture oxen, and a hundred sheep, besides harts, and roebucks, and fallow-deer, and fatted fowl.
| עשרה בקר בראים ועשרים בקר רעי ומאה צאן לבד מאיל וצבי ויחמור וברברים אבוסים׃ |
24 For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Thiphsach even to Gazzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.
| כי הוא רדה בכל עבר הנהר מתפסח ועד עזה בכל מלכי עבר הנהר ושלום היה לו מכל עבריו מסביב׃ |
25 And Judah and Israel dwelt in safety, every man under his vine and under his fig-tree, from Dan even to Beer-sheba', all the days of Solomon.
| וישב יהודה וישראל לבטח איש תחת גפנו ותחת תאנתו מדן ועד באר שבע כל ימי שלמה׃ |
26 And Solomon had forty thousand stalls for the horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.
| ויהי לשלמה ארבעים אלף ארות סוסים למרכבו ושנים עשר אלף פרשים׃ |
27 And those superintendents provided for king Solomon, and for all that came near unto king Solomon's table, every man in his month: they let nothing be wanting.
| וכלכלו הנצבים האלה את המלך שלמה ואת כל הקרב אל שלחן המלך שלמה איש חדשו לא יעדרו דבר׃ |
28 The barley also and the straw for the horses and the runners did they bring unto the place where he might be, every man according to his prescription.
| והשערים והתבן לסוסים ולרכש יבאו אל המקום אשר יהיה שם איש כמשפטו׃ |
29 And God gave unto Solomon wisdom and understanding exceedingly much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea-shore.
| ויתן אלהים חכמה לשלמה ותבונה הרבה מאד ורחב לב כחול אשר על שפת הים׃ |
30 And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
| ותרב חכמת שלמה מחכמת כל בני קדם ומכל חכמת מצרים׃ |
31 And he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrachite, and Heman, and Kalkol, and Darda', the sons of Machol: and his name was [spread] among all the nations round about.
| ויחכם מכל האדם מאיתן האזרחי והימן וכלכל ודרדע בני מחול ויהי שמו בכל הגוים סביב׃ |
32 And he spoke three thousand proverbs; and his songs were a thousand and five.
| וידבר שלשת אלפים משל ויהי שירו חמשה ואלף׃ |
33 And he spoke concerning the trees, from the cedar-tree that is on the Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall; he spoke also concerning the beasts, and concerning the fowl, and concerning the creeping things, and concerning the fishes.
| וידבר על העצים מן הארז אשר בלבנון ועד האזוב אשר יצא בקיר וידבר על הבהמה ועל העוף ועל הרמש ועל הדגים׃ |
34 And men came from all the people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.
| ויבאו מכל העמים לשמע את חכמת שלמה מאת כל מלכי הארץ אשר שמעו את חכמתו׃ |
