1 Kings 20
1 And Ben-hadad the king of Syria assembled all his host together: and thirty and two kings were with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and made war against it.
૧અરામના રાજા બેન-હદાદે પોતાનું સમગ્ર સૈન્ય એકત્ર કર્યું; ત્યાં તેની સાથે બત્રીસ રાજાઓ અને ઘોડેસવારો તથા રથદળ હતાં. તેણે ચઢાઈ કરીને સમરુનને ઘેરી લીધું અને તેની વિરુદ્ધ યુદ્ધ કર્યું.
2 And he sent messengers to Achab the king of Israel into the city;
૨તેણે નગરમાં ઇઝરાયલના રાજા આહાબ પાસે સંદેશવાહકો મોકલીને તેને કહેવડાવ્યું કે, “બેન-હદાદ આમ કહે છે:
3 And he said unto him, Thus hath said Ben-hadad, Thy silver and thy gold are mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the best, are mine.
૩‘તારાં સોનાચાંદી મારાં છે. વળી તારી પત્નીઓ તથા તારાં બાળકો, એટલે તેઓમાં જે સૌથી સારાં હશે, તે પણ મારાં છે.’”
4 And the king of Israel answered and said, According to thy word, my Lord, O king, thine am I, and all that I have.
૪ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “હે મારા માલિક રાજા, તારા કહેવા પ્રમાણે છે. હું તથા મારું સર્વસ્વ તારાં છે.”
5 And the messengers returned, and said, Thus hath said Ben-hadad, to say [to thee], I have indeed sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt give unto me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
૫સંદેશવાહકોએ ફરીથી આવીને કહ્યું, “બેન-હદાદ આમ કહે છે કે, ‘મેં તો તારી પાસે માણસ મોકલીને ચોક્કસ કહેવડાવ્યું હતું કે તારું સોનુંચાંદી, તારી પત્નીઓ તથા તારાં બાળકો તું મારે સ્વાધીન કર.
6 Nevertheless, about this time tomorrow will I send my servants unto thee, and they shall search through thy house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thy eyes, they shall place it in their hand, and take it away.
૬પણ આવતી કાલે આશરે આ સમયે હું મારા ચાકરોને તારી પાસે મોકલીશ અને તેઓ તારા ઘરની તથા તારા ચાકરોનાં ઘરની તપાસ કરશે. જે બધું તને પ્રિય લાગતું હશે, તે તેઓ તારી પાસેથી લઈ જશે.’”
7 Then did the king of Israel call for all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see that this man seeketh mischief; for he hath sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I have not refused them to him.
૭પછી ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ દેશનાં સર્વ વડીલોને બોલાવીને એકત્ર કરીને કહ્યું, “કૃપા કરીને આ ધ્યાનમાં લો અને જુઓ કે આ માણસ કેવું નુકસાન કરવા ઇચ્છે છે. તેણે મારી પાસે માણસ મોકલીને મારી પત્નીઓ, મારાં બાળકો, મારું સોનું તથા ચાંદી માગ્યાં અને મેં તેને ના પાડી નહિ.”
8 And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Thou must not hearken, nor consent.
૮સર્વ વડીલોએ તથા સર્વ લોકોએ આહાબને કહ્યું, “તારે તેનું સાંભળવું નહિ અને તેની માગણી પૂરી કરવી નહિ.”
9 Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben-hadad, Say to my lord the king, all that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first will I do; but this thing I am not able to do. And the messengers went away, and brought him word again.
૯તેથી આહાબે બેન-હદાદના સંદેશવાહકોને કહ્યું, “મારા માલિક રાજાને કહેજો કે, ‘પહેલાં જે તેં તારા સેવક દ્વારા કહેવડાવ્યું હતું તેની માગણી પ્રમાણેનું હું બધું જ આપીશ, પણ હું તારી બીજી માંગણી નહિ સ્વીકારું.’” તેથી સંદેશવાહકો ત્યાંથી રવાના થઈને બેન-હદાદ પાસે જવાબ લઈ આવ્યા.
10 And Ben-hadad then sent unto him, and said, May the gods do so unto me, and continue to do so, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that are in my train.
૧૦પછી બેન-હદાદે આહાબ પાસે માણસ મોકલીને સંદેશો મોકલ્યો, “જો મારી સાથે આવેલા બધા લોકોને ભાગે સમરુનની મુઠ્ઠી ધૂળ પણ આવે, તો દેવતાઓ મને એવું અને એનાથી પણ વધારે વિતાડો.”
11 And the king of Israel answered and said, Speak, Let him that girdeth on the armor not boast himself as he that putteth it off.
૧૧પછી ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “બેન-હદાદને કહો, ‘જે વ્યક્તિ શસ્ત્ર ધારણ કરે તેણે શસ્ત્ર અંગ પરથી ઉતારનારની જેમ બડાશ મારવી નહિ.’
12 And it came to pass, when he heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Get ready for the attack. And they got ready for the attack against the city.
૧૨બેન-હદાદ તથા રાજાઓ તંબુઓમાં મદ્યપાન કરતા હતા, તે દરમિયાન તેણે આ સંદેશો સાંભળીને પોતાના માણસોને આજ્ઞા કરી, “યુદ્ધ માટે તૈયાર થાઓ.” તેથી તેઓએ પોતાને યુદ્ધ માટે તૈયાર કરીને નગર પર હુમલો કર્યો.
13 And, behold, there approached a certain prophet unto Achab the king of Israel, and said, Thus hath said the Lord, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thy hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.
૧૩તો જુઓ, એક પ્રબોધક ઇઝરાયલના રાજા આહાબની પાસે આવીને બોલ્યો, “યહોવાહ એવું કહે છે, ‘શું તેં આ મારા મોટા સૈન્યને જોયું છે? જો, હું આજે તેને તારા હાથમાં સોંપી દઈશ અને તું જાણશે કે હું યહોવાહ છું.’
14 And Achab said, By whom? And he said, Thus hath said the Lord, By means of the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then said he, Who shall order the battle? And he said, Thou.
૧૪આહાબે પૂછ્યું, “કોની મારફતે?” યહોવાહે જવાબ આપ્યો, “પ્રાંતોના સરદારોના જુવાનોની મારફતે.” પછી આહાબે કહ્યું, “યુદ્ધની શરૂઆત કોણ કરશે?” યહોવાહે જવાબ આપ્યો, “તું.”
15 He then numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two: and after them he numbered all the people, all the children of Israel, seven thousand strong.
૧૫પછી આહાબે યુવાનો કે જે પ્રાંતના સરદારોની સેવા કરતા હતા એ જુવાનોને ભેગા કર્યા. તેઓ બસો બત્રીસ હતા. તેઓના પછી તેણે સમગ્ર ઇઝરાયલી સેનાના સૈનિકોને ભેગા કર્યા; તેઓની સંખ્યા સાત હજાર હતી.
16 And they went out at midday; while Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
૧૬તેઓ બપોરે રવાના થયા. પણ બેન-હદાદ પોતે અને તેને સહાય કરનાર બત્રીસ રાજાઓ તંબુઓમાં મદ્યપાન કરીને મસ્ત થયા હતા.
17 And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out at first; and Ben-hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, Some men are come out of Samaria.
૧૭યુવાનો કે જેઓએ પ્રાંતોના સરદારોની સેવા કરી હતી તેઓ પ્રથમ ચાલી નીકળ્યા. પછી બેન-હદાદે માણસો મોકલ્યા અને તેઓએ તેને એવી ખબર આપી, “સમરુનમાંથી માણસો નીકળી આવેલા છે.”
18 And he said, If they be come out for peace, catch them alive; and if they be come out for war, alive must ye catch them.
૧૮બેન-હદાદે કહ્યું, “તેઓ સલાહને માટે આવ્યા હોય કે યુદ્ધ કરવા આવ્યા હોય તોપણ તેઓને જીવતા પકડી લો.”
19 So these, the young men of the princes of the provinces, came out of the city, with the army which followed them.
૧૯તેથી પ્રાંતોના આગેવાનોની સેવા કરનારા યુવાનો તથા સૈન્ય નગરમાંથી બહાર આવ્યાં.
20 And they slew every one his man; and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them: and Ben-hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with the horsemen.
૨૦તેઓ સામા પક્ષનાઓને સૈનિકોમાંથી કેટલાક મારી નાખવા લાગ્યા ત્યારે અરામીઓ ડરીને ભાગવા લાગ્યા; પછી ઇઝરાયલીઓ તેઓની પાછળ પડ્યા. અરામનો રાજા બેન-હદાદ કેટલાક ઘોડેસવારો સાથે ઘોડા પર બેસી નાસી ગયો.
21 And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and inflicted on the Syrians a great defeat.
૨૧પછી ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ બહાર આવીને ઘોડેસવારો તથા રથદળ પર હુમલો કરીને અરામીઓની સખત કતલ કરીને તેઓને મારી નાખ્યા.
22 And the prophet approached unto the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou hast to do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
૨૨પ્રબોધકે ઇઝરાયલના રાજા પાસે આવીને તેને કહ્યું, “તું જઈને તારું બળ વધાર અને જે કંઈ કરે તે વિષે લક્ષ તથા ચોકસી રાખ, કેમ કે આવતા વર્ષે અરામનો રાજા તારા પર ફરીથી ચઢાઈ કરશે.”
23 And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Gods of the mountains are their gods; therefore they prevailed over us; but let us fight against them in the plain, [and see] whether we shall not prevail over them.
૨૩અરામના રાજાના ચાકરોએ તેને કહ્યું, “તેઓના ઈશ્વર તો પર્વતોના ઈશ્વર છે. તેથી તેઓ આપણા કરતાં બળવાન હતા. પણ હવે ચાલો આપણે તેમની સાથે મેદાનમાં યુદ્ધ કરીએ અને ચોક્કસ આપણે તેઓના કરતાં બળવાન થઈશું.
24 But do this thing, Remove the kings, every one from his place, and appoint governors in their rooms;
૨૪અને તમે આટલું કરો: રાજાઓને દૂર કરીને તેઓની જગ્યાએ સરદારોને રાખો.
25 And thou, number for thyself an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, [and see] whether we shall prevail over them. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
૨૫તમે જે સેના ગુમાવી છે તેના જેટલી જ, એટલે તેમાં જેટલા ઘોડેસવાર અને રથદળ હતા તેટલી સેના તમે ઊભી કરો અને આપણે મેદાનમાં તેઓની વિરુદ્ધ યુદ્ધ કરીશું. પછી ચોક્કસ આપણે તેઓના કરતાં બળવાન થઈશું.” બેન-હદાદે તેઓની સલાહ સાંભળી અને તેઓના કહ્યા પ્રમાણે જ કર્યું.
26 And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to the war with Israel.
૨૬નવું વર્ષ શરૂ થતાં, બેન-હદાદ અરામીઓને ભેગા કરીને ઇઝરાયલ સામે યુદ્ધ કરવા માટે અફેક સુધી ગયો.
27 And the children of Israel were numbered, and provisioned, and went [out] against them: and the children of Israel encamped opposite to them like two little flocks of goats; but the Syrians filled the country.
૨૭ઇઝરાયલી લોકો ભેગા થઈને ભાતું લઈને તેઓની સામે લડ્યા. ઇઝરાયલી લોકોએ તેઓની આગળ લવારાંની બે નાની ટોળીઓની માફક છાવણી કરી, પણ અરામીઓ તો સમગ્ર પ્રદેશમાં ફેલાઈ ગયા હતા.
28 And there approached the man of God, and spoke unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus hath said the Lord, Forasmuch as the Syrians have said, “A God of the hills is the Lord, but he is not God of the valleys”: will I deliver all this great multitude into thy hand; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
૨૮પછી ઈશ્વરના એક માણસે પાસે આવીને ઇઝરાયલના રાજાને કહ્યું, “યહોવાહ આમ કહે છે: ‘અરામીઓ એવું માને છે કે યહોવાહ તો પર્વતોના પ્રભુ છે, પણ તે મેદાનનો પ્રભુ નથી; માટે હું આ આખો મોટો સમુદાય તારા હાથમાં સોંપીશ અને તમે જાણશો કે હું જ યહોવાહ છું.’”
29 And they encamped one opposite the other for seven days. And it happened, that on the seventh day the battle took place: and the children of Israel smote the Syrians a hundred thousand men on foot in one day.
૨૯તેથી સૈન્યએ સાત દિવસ સુધી સામસામે છાવણી રાખી. પછી સાતમાં દિવસે યુદ્ધ શરૂ થયું. ઇઝરાયલી લોકોએ એક જ દિવસમાં અરામના પાયદળના એક લાખ સૈનિકોને મારી નાખ્યા.
30 But those that were left fled to Aphek, into the city; but the city-wall fell upon the twenty and seven thousand men that had been left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an innermost chamber.
૩૦બીજા સૈનિકો અફેકના નગરમાં નાસી ગયા પરંતુ તેઓ દાખલ થયા તે સાથે જ નગરનો કોટ નાસી ગયેલા સત્તાવીસ હજાર સૈનિકો પર તૂટી પડ્યો. બેન-હદાદે નાસી જઈને નગરના અંદરના ભાગમાં આશ્રય લીધો.
31 And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are kindly kings; let us, we pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; peradventure he may save thy life.
૩૧બેન-હદાદના ચાકરોએ તેને કહ્યું, “જો, હવે અમે સાંભળ્યું છે, કે ઇઝરાયલના રાજાઓ દયાળુ હોય છે. કૃપા કરીને આપણે કમરે ટાટ શોકના વસ્રો પહેરીએ અને માથા પર દોરડાં વીટીંને ઇઝરાયલના રાજા પાસે જઈએ, કદાચ તે તારો જીવ બચાવે.”
32 So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad hath said, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
૩૨તેથી તેઓએ કમરે ટાટ તથા અને માથા પર દોરડાં વીંટાળીને ઇઝરાયલના રાજા પાસે જઈને તેને કહ્યું, “તારા સેવક બેન-હદાદે કહેવડાવ્યું છે કે, કૃપા કરીને મને જીવનદાન આપ.” તેણે જવાબ આપ્યો, “શું તે હજી જીવતો છે? તે તો મારો ભાઈ છે.”
33 Now the men took it for a good sign, and hastened and caught at his word, whether it was his earnest; and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad! But he said, Go ye, bring him. Then came Ben-hadad forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
૩૩હવે બેન-હદાદના માણસો તો આતુરતાથી તાકી રહ્યા હતા તેથી તેઓએ તરત જ તેને જવાબ આપ્યો કે, “હા, તારો ભાઈ બેન-હદાદ હજી જીવે છે.” પછી આહાબે કહ્યું, “જાઓ, તેને લઈ આવો.” પછી બેન-હદાદ તેની પાસે બહાર આવ્યો અને આહાબે તેને પોતાના રથમાં બેસાડ્યો.
34 And he said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, will I restore; and thou canst lay out for thyself streets in Damascus, as my father laid out in Samaria. “And I for my part will send thee away with this covenant.” So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
૩૪બેન-હદાદે આહાબને કહ્યું, “મારા પિતાએ તારા પિતા પાસેથી લઈ લીધેલાં નગરો હું પાછાં આપીશ અને મારા પિતાએ જેમ સમરુનમાં બજાર બનાવ્યાં હતાં તેમ તું દમસ્કસમાં બનાવજે.” આહાબે જવાબ આપ્યો, “હું તને આ શરતો પર જવા દઈશ.” એમ આહાબે તેની સાથે શાંતિકરાર કરીને તેને જવા દીધો.
35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his companion, By the word of the Lord, smite me, I pray thee. But the man refused to smite him.
૩૫પ્રબોધકોના દીકરાઓમાંના એક માણસે યહોવાહના વચનથી પોતાના સાથીને કહ્યું, “કૃપા કરીને મને માર.” પણ પેલા માણસે તેમ કરવાની ના પાડી.
36 Then said he unto him, Forasmuch as thou hast not obeyed the voice of the Lord, behold, when thou goest away from me, a lion shall slay thee. And he went away from him, when a lion found him, and slew him.
૩૬પછી પ્રબોધકે તેના સાથીને કહ્યું, તેં યહોવાહની આજ્ઞાની અવગણના કરી છે, તેથી તું મારી પાસેથી જશે કે તરત જ એક સિંહ તને મારી નાખશે.” તે માણસ ગયો કે તરત જ તેને એક સિંહ મળ્યો અને તેણે તેને મારી નાખ્યો.
37 Then he met with another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, smiting and wounding [him].
૩૭ત્યાર બાદ પેલો પ્રબોધક બીજા માણસને મળ્યો અને તેણે તેને કહ્યું, “કૃપા કરીને મને માર.” અને તે માણસે તેને માર્યો અને ઘાયલ કર્યો.
38 And the prophet then went, and placed himself before the king on the way, and disguised himself with a bandage over his eyes.
૩૮પછી તે પ્રબોધક ત્યાંથી ચાલ્યો ગયો અને રાજાની રાહ જોતો આંખો પર પાટો બાંધીને પોતાનો વેશ બદલીને માર્ગમાં ઊભો રહ્યો.
39 And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king, and said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought unto me a man, and said, Guard this man; if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be [forfeit] for his life, or else thou shalt weigh me down a talent of silver.
૩૯જ્યારે રાજા ત્યાંથી પસાર થયો ત્યારે તેણે તેને બૂમ પાડીને કહ્યું, “હું યુદ્ધની વચ્ચોવચ્ચ જતો હતો એવામાં એક યોદ્ધાએ એક કેદીને લઈને મારી પાસે આવીને કહ્યું, ‘આ માણસને જો, એ જો નાસી જશે તો તેને બદલે તારે તારો જીવ આપવો પડશે અથવા એક તાલંત ચાંદી આપવી પડશે.’
40 But it happened as thy servant was Busy here and there, that he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So is thy sentence: thou thyself hast decided it.
૪૦પણ હું અહીં તહીં કામમાં વ્યસ્ત હતો, એવામાં તે જતો રહ્યો. “પછી ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ તેને કહ્યું, “તને એ સજા થવી જ જોઈએ - તેં પોતે જ એ નિર્ણય કર્યો છે.”
41 And he hastened, and removed the bandage from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized him that he was one of the prophets.
૪૧પછી તરત જ તે પ્રબોધકે તેની આંખ પર બાંધેલો પાટો છોડી નાખ્યો અને ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ તેને ઓળખી કાઢયો કે, આ તો પ્રબોધકોમાંનો એક છે.
42 And he said unto him, Thus hath said the Lord, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand the man whom I had caught in my net, therefore shall thy life be the forfeit for his life, and thy people for his people.
૪૨તેણે રાજાને કહ્યું, “આ યહોવાહના વચન છે, ‘જે માણસને મેં નાશપાત્ર ઠરાવ્યો હતો તેને તેં તારા હાથમાંથી જવા દીધો છે. તેથી તે માણસના બદલામાં તું મૃત્યુ પામશે અને તેના સૈનિકોના બદલે તારા સૈનિકો મૃત્યુ પામશે.’
43 And the king of Israel went to his house low-spirited and displeased, and he came to Samaria.
૪૩તેથી ઇઝરાયલનો રાજા ઉદાસ અને ગુસ્સે થઈને તેના ઘરે જવા નીકળ્યો અને સમરુનમાં આવી પહોંચ્યો.
