1 Kings 2
1 And when the days of David drew near that he should die, he charged Solomon his son, saying,
Khi sắp qua đời, Vua Đa-vít ban huấn lệnh cho Sa-lô-môn, con mình, như sau:
2 I am going the way of all the earth; but be thou strong, and become a man;
“Ta sắp đi vào con đường chung của thế nhân. Phần con, phải mạnh dạn tỏ ra đáng bậc nam nhi.
3 And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, and his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses; in order that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself;
Phải tuân giữ mệnh lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của con, đi theo đường lối Ngài, tuân giữ tất cả những điều răn, luật lệ, quy tắc, và chỉ thị đã ghi trong Luật Môi-se. Như thế, dù đi đến đâu hay làm việc gì, con sẽ được thành công;
4 In order that the Lord may fulfill his word which he hath spoken concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall never fail thee, said he, a man on the throne of Israel.
và Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ thực hiện lời Ngài đã phán hứa: ‘Nếu con cháu ngươi bước đi thận trọng, hết lòng, hết linh hồn, trung thành với Ta, chúng nó sẽ tiếp tục làm vua Ít-ra-ên mãi mãi.’
5 And thou also knowest well what Joab the son of Zeruyah hath done to me, what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto 'Amassa the son of Yether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and on his shoes that were on his feet.
Ngoài ra, con cũng biết Giô-áp, con Xê-ru-gia đã đối xử với ta như thế nào. Hắn đã sát hại hai tướng Ít-ra-ên là Áp-ne, con Nê-rơ và A-ma-sa, con Giê-the. Hắn gây đổ máu trong thời bình cũng như thời chiến, còn máu chiến tranh vẫn dính đầy thắt lưng và giày hắn.
6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down in peace to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
Con phải hành động khôn khéo, đừng để cho lão già ấy an ổn xuống mồ. (Sheol h7585)
7 But unto the sons of Barzillai the Gil'adite show thou kindness, and let them be of those that eat at thy table; for so they came near to me when I fled from before Abshalom thy brother.
Còn đối với các con Bát-xi-lai, người Ga-la-át, con phải tử tế, cho họ ăn cùng bàn với con, vì họ đã giúp đỡ ta khi ta chạy trốn Áp-sa-lôm, anh con.
8 And, behold, thou hast with thee Shim'i the son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bachurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse on the day when I went to Machanayim; but who came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.
Riêng về Si-mê-i, con Ghê-ra, người Bên-gia-min ở Ba-hu-rim, người này đã nguyền rủa ta thậm tệ lúc ta đi Ma-ha-na-im ngày ấy, nhưng khi người này xuống sông Giô-đan gặp ta, ta có nhân danh Chúa Hằng Hữu thề sẽ không giết nó.
9 But now leave him not unpunished; for thou art a wise man; know then what thou oughtest to do unto him, and bring thou down his hoary head with blood to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
Tuy nhiên, con đừng kể nó là vô tội. Là người khôn ngoan, con biết phải xử sự thế nào. Phải cho đầu bạc nó vấy máu khi xuống mồ.” (Sheol h7585)
10 And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.
Đa-vít an nghỉ với các tổ tiên, được chôn trong Thành Đa-vít.
11 And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years.
Đa-vít trị vì Ít-ra-ên bốn mươi năm, bảy năm ở Hếp-rôn và ba mươi ba năm ở Giê-ru-sa-lem.
12 Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.
Sa-lô-môn ngồi trên ngôi Đa-vít, cha mình, và ngôi nước được vững bền.
13 And Adoniyah the son of Chaggith came to Bath-sheba' the mother of Solomon: and she said, Is thy coming for peace? And he said, For peace.
A-đô-ni-gia, con Hà-ghi đến tìm Bát-sê-ba, mẹ Sa-lô-môn. Bà hỏi: “Anh đến với tinh thần hiếu hòa chứ?” Thưa: “Vâng, hiếu hòa.”
14 He said moreover, I have a word for thee. And she said, Speak.
A-đô-ni-gia tiếp: “Con có lời xin thưa với bà.” Bà bảo: “Nói đi.”
15 And he said, Thou well knowest that mine was the kingdom, and that on me all Israel had set their faces, that I should reign: nevertheless the kingdom was turned about, and became my brother's; for from the Lord was it [made] his.
A-đô-ni-gia nói: “Bà biết nước vốn thuộc về con, cả Ít-ra-ên đều mong con làm vua, nhưng nay nước lại về tay em con, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu muốn thế.
16 And now there is one petition I am going to ask of thee, do not turn me away. And she said unto him, Speak.
Bây giờ, con có một lời thỉnh cầu, xin bà đừng từ chối.” Bà đáp: “Cứ nói.”
17 And he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king, [for he will not turn thee away, ] that he may give me Abishag the Shunammite for wife.
A-đô-ni-gia nói: “Nhờ bà xin phép Vua Sa-lô-môn giúp—vì vua không từ khước bà—cho con được cưới A-bi-sác, người Su-nem, làm vợ.”
18 And Bath-sheba' said, Well: I will speak for thee unto the king.
Bát-sê-ba nhận lời: “Được. Ta hứa sẽ xin với vua điều đó cho con.”
19 Bath-sheba' thereupon went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adoniyah; and the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and then sat down on his throne, and placed a chair for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand.
Vậy, Bát-sê-ba đến gặp vua Sa-lô-môn để nói giúp cho A-đô-ni-gia. Vua đứng lên đón và cúi mình chào mẹ; rồi ngồi lại trên ngai. Vua sai đặt ghế cho mẹ ngồi bên phải.
20 Then said she, There is one small petition I am going to ask of thee; do not turn me away. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother; for I will not turn thee away.
Bà nói: “Mẹ có một việc nhỏ xin con, đừng từ chối mẹ.” Vua đáp: “Mẹ nói đi, con không từ chối đâu.”
21 And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adoniyah thy brother for wife.
Bà tiếp: “Con cho phép A-đô-ni-gia, anh con, được cưới A-bi-sác, người Su-nem, làm vợ.”
22 And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adoniyah? rather ask for him the kingdom; for he is my elder brother; — even for him, and for Ebyathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruyah.
Vua Sa-lô-môn trả lời mẹ: “Tại sao mẹ xin A-bi-sác cho A-đô-ni-gia? Sao không xin cả vương quốc cho anh ấy một thể, vì là anh con? Nếu mẹ đã xin cho anh ấy, sao mẹ không xin luôn cho Thầy Tế lễ A-bia-tha và Giô-áp con Xê-ru-gia nữa cho xong!”
23 Then swore king Solomon by the Lord, saying, May God do so to me, and may he thus continue, if Adoniyah have not spoken this word against his own life.
Vua lại nhân danh Chúa Hằng Hữu thề rằng: “Nguyện Đức Chúa Trời phạt con nặng nề nếu yêu sách của A-đô-ni-gia không làm cho anh ta mất mạng.
24 And now, as the Lord liveth, who hath established me, and seated me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me a house, as he hath spoken, this very day shall Adoniyah be put to death.
Con thề có Chúa Hằng Hữu—Đấng đã đặt con làm vua thế cho Đa-vít, cha con, và lập triều đại này như Ngài đã hứa—rằng A-đô-ni-gia phải chết hôm nay!”
25 And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benayahu the son of Yehoyada'; and he fell upon him so that he died.
Vua Sa-lô-môn sai Bê-na-gia, con Giê-hô-gia-đa giết A-đô-ni-gia.
26 And unto Ebyathar the priest said the king, Go to 'Anathoth, unto thy own fields; for thou art a man worthy of death; but on this day will I not put thee to death; because thou hast borne the ark of the Lord Eternal before David my father, and because thou was afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.
Sau đó vua bảo Thầy Tế lễ A-bia-tha: “Hãy hồi hương về sống ở A-na-tốt. Tội ông đáng chết, nhưng bây giờ ta không giết ông vì ông đã khiêng Hòm Giao Ước của Chúa Hằng Hữu Chí Cao trước mặt Đa-vít, cha ta, và ông cũng đã chia sẻ hoạn nạn với cha ta.”
27 So Solomon banished Ebyathar that he should not be priest unto the Lord, to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken concerning the house of 'Eli in Shiloh.
Thế là Sa-lô-môn cách chức A-bia-tha, không cho làm chức tế lễ của Chúa Hằng Hữu nữa. Việc này làm ứng nghiệm lời Chúa Hằng Hữu đã phán về nhà Hê-li ở Si-lô.
28 And the report came to Joab; for Joab had turned after Adoniyah, though he had not turned after Abshalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
Khi Giô-áp nghe những tin này, Giô-áp là người ủng hộ A-đô-ni-gia dù không theo Áp-sa-lôm, ông liền chạy đến lều tạm của Chúa Hằng Hữu, nắm lấy sừng bàn thờ.
29 And it was told to king Solomon that Joab had fled unto the tabernacle of the Lord; and that, behold, he was close by the altar. Then sent Solomon Benayahu the son of Yehoyada,' saying, Go, fall upon him.
Người ta tâu trình cho Sa-lô-môn: “Giô-áp đã trốn vào lều tạm và đang nắm sừng bàn thờ.” Vua sai Bê-na-gia con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa đi giết Giô-áp.
30 And Benayahu came to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said unto him, Thus hath said the king, Come forth. And he said, No; but here will I die. And Benayahu brought the king word again, saying, Thus hath Joab spoken, and thus hath he answered me.
Bê-na-gia đến lều tạm của Chúa Hằng Hữu và nói với Giô-áp: “Vua truyền lệnh cho ông đi ra!” Nhưng Giô-áp đáp: “Không, ta chết tại đây.” Bê-na-gia tâu lại với vua những điều Giô-áp nói.
31 Then said the king unto him, Do as he hath spoken, and fall upon him, and bury him; and remove [thus] the innocent blood, which Joab hath shed, from me, and from the house of my father.
Vua đáp: “Cứ làm như lời hắn nói. Giết và chôn hắn đi! Như vậy mới gỡ cho ta và nhà cha ta khỏi huyết vô tội mà Giô-áp đã giết người vô cớ.
32 And may the Lord bring back his blood-guiltiness upon his own head, because he fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, while my father David knew it not, Abner the son of Ner, the captain of the army of Israel, and 'Amassa the son of Yether, the captain of the army of Judah.
Vì hắn làm đổ máu người khác, nên Chúa Hằng Hữu khiến máu đổ lại trên đầu hắn. Hắn đã sát hại hai người trung thực và tốt hơn hắn; đó là Áp-ne con Nê-rơ, tư lệnh quân đội Ít-ra-ên; và A-ma-sa, con Giê-the, tư lệnh quân đội Giu-đa, trong khi Đa-vít, cha ta, không hề hay biết.
33 And their blood shall return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but unto David, and unto his seed, and unto his house, and unto his throne, may there be peace for ever from the Lord.
Nguyền máu của họ đổ trên đầu Giô-áp và con cháu hắn đời đời. Còn đối với Đa-vít, con cháu, gia đình, và ngôi nước người sẽ được Chúa Hằng Hữu cho bình an mãi mãi.”
34 So Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' went up, and fell upon him, and slew him: and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.
Vậy, Bê-na-gia con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa trở lại giết Giô-áp. Ông được chôn tại nhà riêng trong hoang mạc.
35 And the king appointed Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' in his place over the army; and Zadok the priest did the king appoint in the place of Ebyathar.
Vua chỉ định Bê-na-gia con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa làm tướng chỉ huy quân đội thay cho Giô-áp; Xa-đốc làm thầy tế lễ thay cho A-bia-tha.
36 And the king sent and called for Shim'i, and said unto him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and thou shalt not go forth from there hither or thither.
Vua đòi Si-mê-i đến và bảo: “Ngươi phải cất một cái nhà tại Giê-ru-sa-lem và ở đó, không được đi đâu cả.
37 And it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thy own head.
Ngày nào ngươi đi qua Trũng Kít-rôn, ngươi phải chết. Máu ngươi sẽ đổ lại trên đầu ngươi.”
38 And Shim'i said unto the king, It is well: as my Lord the king hath spoken, so will thy servant do. And Shim'i dwelt in Jerusalem many days.
Si-mê-i đáp: “Vua nói phải lắm. Tôi xin làm theo lời phán ấy.” Vậy, Si-mê-i ở lại Giê-ru-sa-lem trong một thời gian dài.
39 And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two servants of Shim'i ran away unto Achish the son of Ma'achah the king of Gath: and they told unto Shim'i, saying, Behold, thy servants are in Gath.
Ba năm sau, hai người nô lệ của Si-mê-i chạy trốn đến với A-kích, con Ma-a-ca, vua đất Gát. Có người báo cho Si-mê-i hay.
40 And Shim'i arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants; and Shim'i went, and brought his servants from Gath.
Ông thắng lừa đi đến Gát gặp A-kích, tìm được hai người nô lệ và dẫn họ về.
41 And it was told to Solomon that Shim'i had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had returned.
Khi Sa-lô-môn nghe Si-mê-i rời Giê-ru-sa-lem và đi Gát về,
42 And the king sent and called for Shim'i, and said unto him, Did I not make thee swear by the Lord, and warned thee, saying, On that day thou goest out, and walkest abroad hither or thither, know for certain that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, It is well, I have heard?
liền đòi đến tra hỏi: “Ta đã bảo ngươi thề nhân danh Chúa và cảnh cáo ngươi rằng: ‘Ngày nào ngươi bỏ đi bất kỳ nơi đâu, ngươi phải chết,’ và ngươi có đáp: ‘Vua nói đúng. Tôi xin vâng lời.’
43 Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the Lord, and the commandment with which I charged thee?
Tại sao ngươi không giữ lời thề với Chúa Hằng Hữu và không tuân lệnh ta?”
44 The king said moreover to Shim'i, Thou well knowest all the wickedness of which thy heart is conscious, that thou hast done to David my father: and the Lord bringeth back thy wickedness upon thy own head;
Vua tiếp lời: “Những điều ác ngươi chủ tâm làm cho Đa-vít cha ta ngươi còn nhớ đó chứ! Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ khiến những điều ác ấy quay lại đổ lên đầu ngươi.
45 But king Solomon will be blessed, and the throne of David will be established before the Lord for ever.
Ngược lại, ta sẽ được phước lành, và ngôi nhà Đa-vít sẽ được vững bền trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu đời đời.”
46 So the king commanded Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', who went out, and fell upon him, so that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
Vua ra lệnh cho Bê-na-gia con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa giết Si-mê-i. Như vậy, Sa-lô-môn củng cố được vương quốc mình.
