1 Kings 2
1 And when the days of David drew near that he should die, he charged Solomon his son, saying,
Or, approchèrent les jours où David devait mourir, et ils ordonna à Salomon, son fils, disant:
2 I am going the way of all the earth; but be thou strong, and become a man;
Moi j’entre dans la voie de toute la terre: fortifie-toi, et sois homme.
3 And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, and his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses; in order that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself;
Observe les commandements du Seigneur ton Dieu, afin que tu marches dans ses voies, que tu gardes ses cérémonies, ses préceptes, ses ordonnances et ses lois, comme il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, afin que tu comprennes tout ce que tu feras et toutes tes démarches,
4 In order that the Lord may fulfill his word which he hath spoken concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall never fail thee, said he, a man on the throne of Israel.
Afin que le Seigneur confirme les paroles qu’il a prononcées à mon sujet, disant: Si tes enfants gardent leurs voies, et qu’ils marchent devant moi dans la vérité, en tout leur cœur et en toute leur âme, un homme ne te sera pas enlevé du trône d’Israël.
5 And thou also knowest well what Joab the son of Zeruyah hath done to me, what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto 'Amassa the son of Yether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and on his shoes that were on his feet.
Toi aussi, tu sais ce que m’a fait Joab, fils de Sarvia, et ce qu’il a fait à deux chefs de l’armée d’Israël, à Abner, fils de Ner, et à Amasa, fils de Jéther, qu’il a tués; et il a versé en paix du sang de guerre; et il a mis du sang de combat sur le baudrier qui était à ses reins et sur la chaussure qui était à ses pieds.
6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down in peace to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
Tu feras donc selon ta sagesse, et tu ne laisseras pas descendre en paix ses cheveux blancs dans les enfers. (Sheol h7585)
7 But unto the sons of Barzillai the Gil'adite show thou kindness, and let them be of those that eat at thy table; for so they came near to me when I fled from before Abshalom thy brother.
Mais tu rendras grâce aux fils de Berzellaï, le Galaadite, et ils mangeront à la table: car ils ont couru au-devant de moi, quand je fuyais devant Absalom, ton frère.
8 And, behold, thou hast with thee Shim'i the son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bachurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse on the day when I went to Machanayim; but who came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.
Tu as aussi auprès de toi Séméi, fils de Géra, fils de Jémini, de Bahurim, qui m’a maudit de la malédiction la plus cruelle, quand je m’en allais au camp: mais, parce qu’il descendit au-devant de moi, lorsque je traversai le Jourdain, je lui jurai par le Seigneur, disant: Je ne te tuerai point par le glaive.
9 But now leave him not unpunished; for thou art a wise man; know then what thou oughtest to do unto him, and bring thou down his hoary head with blood to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
Pour toi, ne souffre pas qu’il n’éprouve aucun dommage. Mais tu es un homme sage, en sorte que tu sais ce que tu lui feras, et tu feras descendre ses cheveux blancs avec du sang dans les enfers. (Sheol h7585)
10 And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.
David dormit donc avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli dans la cité de David.
11 And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years.
Or, les jours durant lesquels David régna sur Israël furent de quarante années: à Hébron, il régna sept ans, et à Jérusalem, trente-trois ans.
12 Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.
Et Salomon s’assit sur le trône de David, son père, et son règne s’affermit puissamment.
13 And Adoniyah the son of Chaggith came to Bath-sheba' the mother of Solomon: and she said, Is thy coming for peace? And he said, For peace.
Et Adonias, fils d’Haggith, entra chez Bethsabée, mère de Salomon. Elle lui demanda: Ton entrée ici est-elle pacifique? Il lui répondit: Pacifique.
14 He said moreover, I have a word for thee. And she said, Speak.
Et il ajouta: J’ai un mot pour vous. Elle lui dit: Parle. Et lui:
15 And he said, Thou well knowest that mine was the kingdom, and that on me all Israel had set their faces, that I should reign: nevertheless the kingdom was turned about, and became my brother's; for from the Lord was it [made] his.
Vous savez, dit-il, que le royaume était à moi, et que tout Israël m’avait mis à sa tête comme roi; mais le royaume a été transféré, et il a passé à mon frère; car c’est par le Seigneur qu’il lui a été attribué.
16 And now there is one petition I am going to ask of thee, do not turn me away. And she said unto him, Speak.
Maintenant donc, je ne vous fais qu’une seule prière; ne couvrez pas ma face de confusion. Bethsabée lui dit: Parle.
17 And he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king, [for he will not turn thee away, ] that he may give me Abishag the Shunammite for wife.
Et Adonias lui dit: Je vous prie de dire à Salomon, le roi (car il ne peut rien vous refuser), qu’il me donne Abisag, la Sunamite, pour femme.
18 And Bath-sheba' said, Well: I will speak for thee unto the king.
Et Bethsabée dit: Bien; je parlerai moi-même pour toi au roi.
19 Bath-sheba' thereupon went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adoniyah; and the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and then sat down on his throne, and placed a chair for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand.
Bethsabée vint donc auprès du roi Salomon, afin de lui parler pour Adonias; et le roi se leva au-devant d’elle, puis il s’assit sur son trône: et un trône fut placé pour la mère du roi, laquelle s’assit à sa droite.
20 Then said she, There is one small petition I am going to ask of thee; do not turn me away. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother; for I will not turn thee away.
Et elle lui dit: Je n’ai qu’une petite prière à te faire; ne couvre pas ma face de confusion. Et le roi lui dit: Demandez, ma mère; car il n’est pas juste que j’écarte votre face.
21 And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adoniyah thy brother for wife.
Bethsabée lui dit: Qu’Abisag, la Sunamite, soit donnée à Adonias, ton frère, pour femme.
22 And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adoniyah? rather ask for him the kingdom; for he is my elder brother; — even for him, and for Ebyathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruyah.
Et le roi Salomon répondit et dit à sa mère: Pourquoi demandez-vous Abisag, la Sunamite, pour Adonias? Demandez aussi pour lui le royaume; car il est mon frère aîné, et il a déjà pour lui Abiathar, le prêtre, et Joab, fils de Sarvia.
23 Then swore king Solomon by the Lord, saying, May God do so to me, and may he thus continue, if Adoniyah have not spoken this word against his own life.
C’est pourquoi le roi Salomon jura par le Seigneur, disant: Que Dieu me fasse ceci, et qu’il ajoute cela, si ce n’est pas contre son âme qu’Adonias a dit cette parole.
24 And now, as the Lord liveth, who hath established me, and seated me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me a house, as he hath spoken, this very day shall Adoniyah be put to death.
Et maintenant le Seigneur vit, lui, qui m’a affermi, qui m’a placé sur le trône de David, mon père, et qui m’a fait une maison, comme il l’avait dit! aujourd’hui Adonias sera mis à mort.
25 And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benayahu the son of Yehoyada'; and he fell upon him so that he died.
Et le roi Salomon envoya Banaïas, fils de Joïada, qui le tua, et il mourut.
26 And unto Ebyathar the priest said the king, Go to 'Anathoth, unto thy own fields; for thou art a man worthy of death; but on this day will I not put thee to death; because thou hast borne the ark of the Lord Eternal before David my father, and because thou was afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.
Le roi dit aussi à Abiathar, le prêtre: Va à Anathoth, dans ton champ; à la vérité, tu es un homme de mort; mais aujourd’hui je ne te tuerai point, parce que tu as porté l’arche du Seigneur Dieu devant David, mon père, et que tu as supporté le labeur dans toutes les choses dans lesquelles mon père l’a enduré.
27 So Solomon banished Ebyathar that he should not be priest unto the Lord, to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken concerning the house of 'Eli in Shiloh.
Salomon relégua donc Abiathar, pour qu’il ne fût plus le prêtre du Seigneur, afin que la parole que le Seigneur avait dite fût accomplie sur la maison d’Héli à Silo.
28 And the report came to Joab; for Joab had turned after Adoniyah, though he had not turned after Abshalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
Or cette nouvelle vint à Joab, parce qu’il avait passé à Adonias, et qu’il n’avait pas passé à Salomon: Joab donc s’enfuit dans le tabernacle du Seigneur, et saisit la corne de l’autel.
29 And it was told to king Solomon that Joab had fled unto the tabernacle of the Lord; and that, behold, he was close by the altar. Then sent Solomon Benayahu the son of Yehoyada,' saying, Go, fall upon him.
Et l’on annonça au roi Salomon que Joab s’était enfui dans le tabernacle du Seigneur, et qu’il était près de l’autel; et Salomon envoya Banaïas, fils de Joïada, disant: Va, et tue-le.
30 And Benayahu came to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said unto him, Thus hath said the king, Come forth. And he said, No; but here will I die. And Benayahu brought the king word again, saying, Thus hath Joab spoken, and thus hath he answered me.
Et Banaïas vint au tabernacle du Seigneur, et dit à Joab: Voici ce que dit le roi: Sors. Joab répondit: Je ne sortirai point, mais je mourrai ici. Banaïas rapporta cette parole au roi, disant: Voilà ce qu’a dit Joab, et voilà ce qu’il m’a répondu.
31 Then said the king unto him, Do as he hath spoken, and fall upon him, and bury him; and remove [thus] the innocent blood, which Joab hath shed, from me, and from the house of my father.
Et le roi lui dit: Fais comme il a dit: tue-le et l’ensevelis; et tu écarteras de moi et de la maison de mon père un sang innocent qui a été versé par Joab.
32 And may the Lord bring back his blood-guiltiness upon his own head, because he fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, while my father David knew it not, Abner the son of Ner, the captain of the army of Israel, and 'Amassa the son of Yether, the captain of the army of Judah.
Et le Seigneur fera retomber son sang sur sa tête, parce qu’il a tué deux hommes justes, meilleurs que lui, et qu’il les a tués par le glaive, mon père David l’ignorant: Abner, fils de Ner, prince de la milice d’Israël, et Amasa, fils de Jéther, prince de l’armée de Juda;
33 And their blood shall return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but unto David, and unto his seed, and unto his house, and unto his throne, may there be peace for ever from the Lord.
Et leur sang retombera sur la tête de Joab et sur la tête de sa postérité pour jamais. Mais qu’à David et à sa postérité, à sa maison et à son trône, soit une paix éternelle par le Seigneur.
34 So Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' went up, and fell upon him, and slew him: and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.
C’est pourquoi Banaïas, fils de Joïada, monta; et ayant attaqué Joab, il le tua; et il fut enseveli en sa maison, dans le désert.
35 And the king appointed Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' in his place over the army; and Zadok the priest did the king appoint in the place of Ebyathar.
Et le roi établi Banaïas, fils de Joïada, sur l’armée au lieu de Joab, et il mit Sadoc, le prêtre, à la place d’Abiathar.
36 And the king sent and called for Shim'i, and said unto him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and thou shalt not go forth from there hither or thither.
Le roi envoya aussi, et appela Séméi, et lui dit: Bâtis-toi une maison dans Jérusalem, et demeures-y, et n’en sors point pour aller ici et là.
37 And it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thy own head.
Or, au jour où tu sortiras, et tu passeras le torrent de Cédron, sache que tu seras tué et que ton sang sera sur ta tête.
38 And Shim'i said unto the king, It is well: as my Lord the king hath spoken, so will thy servant do. And Shim'i dwelt in Jerusalem many days.
Séméi dit au roi: Cette parole est juste. Comme mon seigneur le roi a dit, ainsi fera votre serviteur. C’est pourquoi Séméi demeura longtemps à Jérusalem.
39 And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two servants of Shim'i ran away unto Achish the son of Ma'achah the king of Gath: and they told unto Shim'i, saying, Behold, thy servants are in Gath.
Mais il arriva, après trois ans, que les esclaves de Séméi s’enfuirent vers Achis, fils de Maacha, roi de Geth; et on annonça à Séméi que ses esclaves étaient allés à Geth.
40 And Shim'i arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants; and Shim'i went, and brought his servants from Gath.
Et Séméi se leva, scella son âne, et s’en alla vers Achis, à Geth, pour redemander ses esclaves, et les ramena de Geth.
41 And it was told to Solomon that Shim'i had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had returned.
Or, on annonça à Salomon que Séméi avait été de Jérusalem à Geth, et qu’il était revenu.
42 And the king sent and called for Shim'i, and said unto him, Did I not make thee swear by the Lord, and warned thee, saying, On that day thou goest out, and walkest abroad hither or thither, know for certain that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, It is well, I have heard?
Et envoyant, il l’appela, et lui dit: Ne t’ai-je pas juré par le Seigneur, et dit par avance: Au jour où, étant sorti, tu iras ici et là, sache que tu mourras? Et tu m’as répondu: Elle est juste la parole que j’ai entendue.
43 Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the Lord, and the commandment with which I charged thee?
Pourquoi donc n’as-tu pas gardé le serment du Seigneur, et l’ordre que je t’avais donné?
44 The king said moreover to Shim'i, Thou well knowest all the wickedness of which thy heart is conscious, that thou hast done to David my father: and the Lord bringeth back thy wickedness upon thy own head;
Et le roi dit à Séméi: Tu sais toi-même tout le mal que ton cœur te reproche d’avoir fait à David, mon père: le Seigneur a fait retomber ta malice sur ta tête.
45 But king Solomon will be blessed, and the throne of David will be established before the Lord for ever.
Elle roi Salomon sera béni, et le trône de David sera stable devant le Seigneur à jamais.
46 So the king commanded Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', who went out, and fell upon him, so that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
C’est pourquoi Salomon commanda à Banaïas, fils de Joïada; et Banaïas sortit, frappa Séméi; et il mourut.
