1 Kings 2
1 And when the days of David drew near that he should die, he charged Solomon his son, saying,
Les jours de David approchaient où il devait mourir, et il donna cet ordre à Salomon, son fils:
2 I am going the way of all the earth; but be thou strong, and become a man;
« Je m'en vais par le chemin de toute la terre. Sois donc fort, et montre-toi un homme;
3 And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, and his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses; in order that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself;
et garde les instructions de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, pour marcher dans ses voies, pour observer ses lois, ses commandements, ses ordonnances et ses témoignages, selon ce qui est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, afin que tu prospères dans tout ce que tu fais et partout où tu te tournes.
4 In order that the Lord may fulfill his word which he hath spoken concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall never fail thee, said he, a man on the throne of Israel.
Alors Yahvé accomplira la parole qu'il a prononcée à mon sujet, en disant: « Si tes enfants prennent garde à leur voie, pour marcher devant moi dans la vérité, de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, tu ne manqueras pas, dit-il, d'un homme sur le trône d'Israël ».
5 And thou also knowest well what Joab the son of Zeruyah hath done to me, what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto 'Amassa the son of Yether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and on his shoes that were on his feet.
Vous savez d'ailleurs ce que m'a fait Joab, fils de Tseruja, ce qu'il a fait aux deux chefs des armées d'Israël, à Abner, fils de Ner, et à Amasa, fils de Jéther, qu'il a tués, et qu'il a fait couler en paix le sang de la guerre, en mettant le sang de la guerre sur la ceinture qu'il avait à la taille et sur les sandales qu'il avait aux pieds.
6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down in peace to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
Fais donc selon ta sagesse, et ne laisse pas sa tête grise descendre en paix au séjour des morts. (Sheol h7585)
7 But unto the sons of Barzillai the Gil'adite show thou kindness, and let them be of those that eat at thy table; for so they came near to me when I fled from before Abshalom thy brother.
Mais fais preuve de bonté envers les fils de Barzillai, le Galaadite, et qu'ils soient du nombre de ceux qui mangent à ta table, car c'est ainsi qu'ils sont venus à moi lorsque j'ai fui Absalom, ton frère.
8 And, behold, thou hast with thee Shim'i the son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bachurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse on the day when I went to Machanayim; but who came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.
« Voici qu'il y a avec toi Shimei, fils de Gera, Benjamite de Bahurim, qui m'a maudit d'une manière redoutable le jour où je suis allé à Mahanaïm; mais il est descendu à ma rencontre au Jourdain, et je lui ai juré par Yahvé: 'Je ne te ferai pas mourir par l'épée'.
9 But now leave him not unpunished; for thou art a wise man; know then what thou oughtest to do unto him, and bring thou down his hoary head with blood to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
Maintenant donc, ne le tiens pas pour innocent, car tu es un homme sage; tu sauras ce que tu dois lui faire, et tu feras descendre au séjour des morts sa tête grise dans le sang. » (Sheol h7585)
10 And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.
David se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré dans la ville de David.
11 And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years.
Les jours où David régna sur Israël furent de quarante ans; il régna sept ans à Hébron, et il régna trente-trois ans à Jérusalem.
12 Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.
Salomon s'assit sur le trône de David, son père, et son royaume fut solidement établi.
13 And Adoniyah the son of Chaggith came to Bath-sheba' the mother of Solomon: and she said, Is thy coming for peace? And he said, For peace.
Alors Adonija, fils de Haggith, vint auprès de Bethsabée, mère de Salomon. Elle dit: « Viens-tu paisiblement? » Il a dit: « pacifiquement ».
14 He said moreover, I have a word for thee. And she said, Speak.
Il dit en outre: « J'ai quelque chose à vous dire. » Elle a dit: « Dis-le. »
15 And he said, Thou well knowest that mine was the kingdom, and that on me all Israel had set their faces, that I should reign: nevertheless the kingdom was turned about, and became my brother's; for from the Lord was it [made] his.
Il dit: « Vous savez que le royaume était à moi, et que tout Israël s'est tourné vers moi pour que je règne. Mais le royaume s'est retourné et est devenu celui de mon frère, car il lui a été donné par Yahvé.
16 And now there is one petition I am going to ask of thee, do not turn me away. And she said unto him, Speak.
Maintenant, je te demande une chose. Ne me renie pas. » Elle lui a dit: « Dis-le. »
17 And he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king, [for he will not turn thee away, ] that he may give me Abishag the Shunammite for wife.
Il dit: « Parle au roi Salomon, car il ne te dira pas non, pour qu'il me donne pour femme Abishag, la Sunamite. »
18 And Bath-sheba' said, Well: I will speak for thee unto the king.
Bethsabée dit: « Très bien. Je parlerai en ton nom au roi. »
19 Bath-sheba' thereupon went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adoniyah; and the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and then sat down on his throne, and placed a chair for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand.
Bethsabée alla donc vers le roi Salomon, pour lui parler en faveur d'Adonija. Le roi se leva à sa rencontre, se prosterna devant elle, s'assit sur son trône et fit placer un trône pour la mère du roi, et elle s'assit à sa droite.
20 Then said she, There is one small petition I am going to ask of thee; do not turn me away. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother; for I will not turn thee away.
Elle dit alors: « Je te demande une petite requête; ne me refuse pas. » Le roi lui dit: « Demande, ma mère, car je ne te refuserai pas. »
21 And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adoniyah thy brother for wife.
Elle dit: « Qu'Abishag, la Sunamite, soit donnée pour femme à Adonija, ton frère. »
22 And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adoniyah? rather ask for him the kingdom; for he is my elder brother; — even for him, and for Ebyathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruyah.
Le roi Salomon répondit à sa mère: « Pourquoi demandes-tu à Abischag, la Sunamite, pour Adonija? Demande pour lui aussi le royaume, car il est mon frère aîné; pour lui aussi, pour le prêtre Abiathar, et pour Joab, fils de Tseruja. »
23 Then swore king Solomon by the Lord, saying, May God do so to me, and may he thus continue, if Adoniyah have not spoken this word against his own life.
Alors le roi Salomon jura par Yahvé, en disant: « Que Dieu me fasse ainsi, et plus encore, si Adonija n'a pas prononcé cette parole contre sa propre vie.
24 And now, as the Lord liveth, who hath established me, and seated me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me a house, as he hath spoken, this very day shall Adoniyah be put to death.
Maintenant que Yahvé est vivant, lui qui m'a affermi et m'a mis sur le trône de mon père David, et qui m'a fait une maison comme il l'avait promis, Adonija sera mis à mort aujourd'hui. »
25 And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benayahu the son of Yehoyada'; and he fell upon him so that he died.
Le roi Salomon envoya Benaja, fils de Jehojada, qui tomba sur lui, de sorte qu'il mourut.
26 And unto Ebyathar the priest said the king, Go to 'Anathoth, unto thy own fields; for thou art a man worthy of death; but on this day will I not put thee to death; because thou hast borne the ark of the Lord Eternal before David my father, and because thou was afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.
Le roi dit au prêtre Abiathar: « Va à Anathoth, dans tes champs, car tu es digne de mourir. Mais je ne te ferai pas mourir maintenant, parce que tu as porté l'arche du Seigneur Yahvé devant David, mon père, et parce que tu as été affligé dans tout ce que mon père a été affligé. »
27 So Solomon banished Ebyathar that he should not be priest unto the Lord, to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken concerning the house of 'Eli in Shiloh.
Salomon chassa donc Abiathar de la fonction de prêtre de l'Éternel, afin d'accomplir la parole de l'Éternel qu'il avait prononcée au sujet de la maison d'Éli à Silo.
28 And the report came to Joab; for Joab had turned after Adoniyah, though he had not turned after Abshalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
Cette nouvelle parvint à Joab, car Joab avait suivi Adonija, bien qu'il n'eût pas suivi Absalom. Joab s'enfuit vers la tente de l'Éternel et s'accrocha aux cornes de l'autel.
29 And it was told to king Solomon that Joab had fled unto the tabernacle of the Lord; and that, behold, he was close by the altar. Then sent Solomon Benayahu the son of Yehoyada,' saying, Go, fall upon him.
On dit au roi Salomon: « Joab s'est enfui vers la tente de l'Éternel, et voici qu'il est près de l'autel. » Alors Salomon envoya Benaja, fils de Jehoiada, en disant: « Va, tombe sur lui. »
30 And Benayahu came to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said unto him, Thus hath said the king, Come forth. And he said, No; but here will I die. And Benayahu brought the king word again, saying, Thus hath Joab spoken, and thus hath he answered me.
Benaja vint à la tente de Yahvé et lui dit: « Le roi dit: « Sors! »" Il a dit: « Non; mais je mourrai ici. » Benaiah rapporta de nouveau la parole au roi, en disant: « Voici ce que Joab a dit, et voici comment il m'a répondu. »
31 Then said the king unto him, Do as he hath spoken, and fall upon him, and bury him; and remove [thus] the innocent blood, which Joab hath shed, from me, and from the house of my father.
Le roi lui dit: « Fais ce qu'il a dit, tombe sur lui et enterre-le, afin d'ôter de moi et de la maison de mon père le sang que Joab a versé sans raison.
32 And may the Lord bring back his blood-guiltiness upon his own head, because he fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, while my father David knew it not, Abner the son of Ner, the captain of the army of Israel, and 'Amassa the son of Yether, the captain of the army of Judah.
Yahvé fera retomber son sang sur sa propre tête, car il est tombé sur deux hommes plus justes et meilleurs que lui, et les a tués par l'épée, sans que mon père David le sache: Abner, fils de Ner, chef de l'armée d'Israël, et Amasa, fils de Jether, chef de l'armée de Juda.
33 And their blood shall return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but unto David, and unto his seed, and unto his house, and unto his throne, may there be peace for ever from the Lord.
Ainsi leur sang retombera sur la tête de Joab et sur la tête de sa descendance pour toujours. Mais pour David, pour sa descendance, pour sa maison et pour son trône, il y aura une paix éternelle de la part de Yahvé. »
34 So Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' went up, and fell upon him, and slew him: and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.
Alors Benaja, fils de Jehojada, monta, se jeta sur lui et le tua; et il fut enterré dans sa maison, dans le désert.
35 And the king appointed Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' in his place over the army; and Zadok the priest did the king appoint in the place of Ebyathar.
Le roi remit Benaja, fils de Jehojada, à sa place dans l'armée, et le roi mit le sacrificateur Tsadok à la place d'Abiathar.
36 And the king sent and called for Shim'i, and said unto him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and thou shalt not go forth from there hither or thither.
Le roi fit appeler Shimei et lui dit: « Construis-toi une maison à Jérusalem, et habite là, et ne va pas ailleurs.
37 And it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thy own head.
Car le jour où tu sortiras et passeras le torrent de Cédron, sache que tu mourras certainement. Ton sang sera sur ta tête. »
38 And Shim'i said unto the king, It is well: as my Lord the king hath spoken, so will thy servant do. And Shim'i dwelt in Jerusalem many days.
Shimei dit au roi: « Ce que tu dis est bien. Ce que mon seigneur le roi a dit, ton serviteur le fera aussi. » Shimei vécut de nombreux jours à Jérusalem.
39 And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two servants of Shim'i ran away unto Achish the son of Ma'achah the king of Gath: and they told unto Shim'i, saying, Behold, thy servants are in Gath.
Au bout de trois ans, deux des esclaves de Shimei s'enfuirent chez Akish, fils de Maaca, roi de Gath. Ils en informèrent Shimei en disant: « Voici tes esclaves à Gath. »
40 And Shim'i arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants; and Shim'i went, and brought his servants from Gath.
Shimei se leva, sella son âne et alla à Gath, chez Akish, pour chercher ses esclaves; et Shimei alla chercher ses esclaves à Gath.
41 And it was told to Solomon that Shim'i had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had returned.
On raconta à Salomon que Shimei était allé de Jérusalem à Gath, et qu'il était revenu.
42 And the king sent and called for Shim'i, and said unto him, Did I not make thee swear by the Lord, and warned thee, saying, On that day thou goest out, and walkest abroad hither or thither, know for certain that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, It is well, I have heard?
Le roi fit appeler Shimei et lui dit: « Ne t'ai-je pas adjuré par l'Éternel et ne t'ai-je pas averti en disant: « Sache bien que le jour où tu sortiras et marcheras ailleurs, tu mourras certainement? » Tu m'as répondu: « La parole que j'ai entendue est bonne. »
43 Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the Lord, and the commandment with which I charged thee?
Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas respecté le serment de l'Éternel et le commandement dont je t'ai instruit? »
44 The king said moreover to Shim'i, Thou well knowest all the wickedness of which thy heart is conscious, that thou hast done to David my father: and the Lord bringeth back thy wickedness upon thy own head;
Le roi dit encore à Shimei: « Tu sais dans ton cœur toute la méchanceté que tu as commise envers David, mon père. C'est pourquoi Yahvé fera retomber ta méchanceté sur ta propre tête.
45 But king Solomon will be blessed, and the throne of David will be established before the Lord for ever.
Mais le roi Salomon sera béni, et le trône de David sera affermi devant Yahvé pour toujours. »
46 So the king commanded Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', who went out, and fell upon him, so that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
Le roi donna des ordres à Benaja, fils de Jehoïada, qui sortit et tomba sur lui, de sorte qu'il mourut. Le royaume fut établi entre les mains de Salomon.
