1 Kings 16

1 Then came the word of the Lord to Jehu the son of Chanani against Ba'sha, saying,

Or la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Jéhu, fils d’Hanani, contre Baasa, disant:

2 Forasmuch as I lifted thee up out of the dust, and I set thee as prince over my people Israel; and thou hast walked in the way of Jerobo'am, and hast induced my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins:

Quand je t’ai élevé de la poussière, et je t’ai établi chef sur mon peuple Israël, toi au contraire, tu as marché dans la voie de Jéroboam, et tu as fait pécher mon peuple Israël, pour m’irriter par leurs péchés:

3 Behold, I will sweep out after Ba'sha, and after his house; and I will render thy house like the house of Jerobo'am the son of Nebat;

Voilà que moi, je moissonnerai la postérité de Baasa et la postérité de sa maison, et je ferai de ta maison ce que j’ai fait de la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nabath.

4 Him that dieth of Ba'sha in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth of his in the field shall the fowls of the heavens eat.

Celui de la race de Baasa qui mourra dans la ville, les chiens le mangeront, et celui qui mourra dans la campagne, les oiseaux du ciel le mangeront.

5 And the rest of the acts of Ba'sha, and what he did, and his mighty deeds, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

Mais le reste des actions de Baasa, et tout ce qu’il fit, et ses combats, n’est-ce pas écrit dans le Livre des actions des jours des rois d’Israël?

6 And Ba'sha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Thirzah: and Elah his son became king in his stead.

Baasa dormit donc avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli à Thersa; et Ela son fils régna en sa place.

7 And also by the hand of Jehu the son of Chanani, the prophet, came the word of the Lord against Ba'sha, and against his house, both for all the evil that he did in the eyes of the Lord, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands, thus being like the house of Jerobo'am; and because he had killed him.

Mais lorsque par l’entremise de Jéhu le prophète, fils d’Hanani, la parole du Seigneur eut été adressée contre Baasa, contre sa maison, et contre tout le mal qu’il avait fait devant le Seigneur, pour l’irriter par les œuvres de ses mains, afin que sa maison devînt comme la maison de Jéroboam, Baasa pour ce motif même le tua, c’est-à-dire, Jéhu, fils d’Hanani le prophète,

8 In the twenty and sixth year of Assa the king of Judah became Elah the son of Ba'sha king over Israel in Thirzah, [for] two years.

La vingt-sixième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, Ela, fils de Baasa, régna sur Israël à Thersa pendant deux ans;

9 And there conspired against him his servant Zimri, captain of half the chariots, as he was in Thirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was set over the house in Thirzah.

Car son serviteur Zambri, chef de la moitié de sa cavalerie, se révolta contre lui; or Ela était à Thersa buvant et ivre, dans la maison d’Arsa, gouverneur de Thersa.

10 And Zimri went in and smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of Assa the king of Judah, and became king in his stead.

Zambri donc se jetant sur lui, le frappa et le tua la vingt-septième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, et il régna en sa place.

11 And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he slew all the house of Ba'sha: he left him not a single male, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends.

Et lorsqu’il fut roi et qu’il fut assis sur son trône, il tua toute la maison de Baasa, et il ne laissa d’elle aucun urinant contre une muraille, ni ses proches, ni ses amis.

12 Thus did Zimri exterminate all the house of Ba'sha, according to the word of the Lord, which he had spoken against Ba'sha by the agency of Jehu the prophet,

Ainsi Zambri détruisit toute la maison de Baasa, selon la parole que le Seigneur avait dite à Baasa par l’entremise de Jéhu le prophète,

13 For all the sins of Ba'sha, and the sins of Elah his son, by which they had sinned, and by which they had induced Israel to sin, to provoke the Lord the God of Israel to anger with their vanities.

À cause de tous les péchés de Baasa et des péchés d’Ela son fils, qui avaient péché et fait pécher tout Israël, provoquant le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël par leurs vanités.

14 Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

Mais le reste des actions d’Ela, et tout ce qu’il fit, n’est-ce pas écrit dans le Livre des actions des jours des rois d’Israël?

15 In the twenty and seventh year of Assa the king of Judah did Zimri reign seven days in Thirzah: and the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

La vingt-septième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, Zambri régna pendant sept jours à Thersa: or l’armée d’Israël assiégeait Gebbethon, ville des Philistins.

16 And when the people that were encamped heard it said, Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slain the king: all Israel made 'Omri, the captain of the army, king over Israel on that day in the camp.

Et lorsqu’il eut appris que Zambri s’était révolté et avait tué le roi, tout Israël se donna pour roi Amri, qui était prince de la milice d’Israël, et en ce jour-là dans le camp.

17 And 'Omri went up, and all Israel with him from Gibbethon, and they besieged Thirzah.

Amri monta donc, et tout Israël avec lui, de Gebbethon, et ils assiégeaient Thersa.

18 And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was captured, that he went into the strong-hold of the king's house, and burnt the king's house over him with fire, and he died;

Or Zambri, voyant que la ville allait être prise d’assaut, entra dans le palais et se brûla avec la maison royale: et il mourut

19 For his sins which he had sinned, in doing what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, to walk in the way of Jerobo'am, and in his sin which he did, to induce Israel to sin.

Dans ses péchés qu’il avait commis, faisant le mal devant le Seigneur, et marchant dans la voie de Jéroboam et dans le péché par lequel il avait fait pécher Israël.

20 And the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his conspiracy that he contrived, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

Mais le reste des actions de Zambri, de ses embûches et de sa tyrannie, n’est-ce pas écrit dans le Livre des actions des jours des rois d’Israël?

21 At that time were the people of Israel divided into two parts: one half of the people followed Thibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and the other half followed 'Omri.

Alors le peuple d’Israël fut divisé en deux parties: la moitié du peuple suivait Thebni, fils de Gineth, pour l’établir roi, et l’autre moitié. Amri.

22 But the people that followed 'Omri prevailed against the people that followed Thibni the son of Ginath: and Thibni [also] died, and 'Omri became king.

Mais le peuple qui était avec Amri l’emporta sur le peuple qui était avec Thebni, fils de Gineth; or Thebni mourut, et Amri régna.

23 In the thirty and first year of Assa the king of Judah became 'Omri king over Israel, [for] twelve years; in Thirzah he reigned six years.

Depuis la trente-unième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, Amri régna sur Israël pendant douze ans: à Thersa, il régna six ans.

24 And he bought the mount Samaria, of Shemer for two talents of silver, and built on the mount, and called the name of the city which he had built, after the name of Shemer, the Lord of the mount, Samaria.

Et il acheta la montagne de Samarie à Somer, pour deux talents d’argent; et il la bâtit, et il appela la ville qu’il avait construite Samarie, du nom de Somer, le maître de la montagne.

25 And 'Omri did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse than all that were before him.

Mais Amri fit le mal en la présence du Seigneur, et il agit méchamment, plus que tous ceux qui furent avant lui.

26 And he walked in all the way of Jerobo'am the son of Nebat, and in his sin wherewith he induced Israel to sin, to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger with their vanities.

Et il marcha dans toute la voie de Jéroboam, fils de Nabath, et dans ses péchés par lesquels il avait fait pécher Israël, pour irriter le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël par ses vanités.

27 Now the rest of the acts of 'Omri which he did, and his mighty deeds that he displayed, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

Mais le reste des actions d’Amri et les combats qu’il donna, n’est-ce pas écrit dans le Livre des actions des jours des rois d’Israël?

28 And 'Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria: and Achab his son became king in his stead.

Et Amri dormit avec ses pères et fut enseveli à Samarie, et Achab, son fils, régna en sa place.

29 And Achab the son of 'omri became king over Israel in the thirty and eighth year of Assa the king of Judah; and Achab the son of 'Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty and two years.

Mais Achab, fils d’Amri, régna sur Israël la trente-huitième année d’Asa, roi de Juda. Et Achab, fils d’Amri, régna sur Israël à Samarie pendant vingt-deux ans.

30 And Achab the son of 'Omri did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord more than all that had been before him.

Et Achab, fils d’Amri, fit le mal en la présence du Seigneur plus que tous ceux qui furent avant lui.

31 And it came to pass, as if it had been too light a thing for him to walk in the sins of Jerobo'am the son of Nebat, that he took for wife Izebel the daughter of Ethba'al the king of the Zidonians, and went and served Ba'al, and worshipped him.

Et il ne lui suffit pas de marcher dans les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabath; de plus, il prit pour femme Jézabel, fille d’Ethbaal, roi des Sidoniens, et il alla, et servit Baal et l’adora.

32 And he erected an altar for Ba'al in the house of Ba'al, which he had built in Samaria.

Et il éleva un autel à Baal dans le temple de Baal qu’il avait bâti à Samarie,

33 And Achab made a grove; and Achab did yet more, so as to provoke the Lord the God of Israel to anger, than all the kings of Israel that had been before him.

Et il planta le bois sacré; et Achab ajouta à son œuvre en irritant le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël plus que tous les rois d’Israël qui furent avant lui.

34 In his days did Chiel the Beth-elite build Jericho: with Abiram his first-born laid he the foundation thereof, and with Segub his youngest son set he up the gates thereof, according to the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by means of Joshua the son of Nun.

Pendant ses jours, Hiel, de Béthel, bâtit Jéricho: il en jeta les fondements sur Abiram, son premier-né, et il en posa les portes sur Ségub, son dernier fils, selon la parole que le Seigneur avait dite par l’entremise de Josué, fils de Nun.
