1 Kings 12
1 And Rehobo'am went to Shechem; for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.
രെഹബെയാമിനെ രാജാവായി വാഴിക്കുന്നതിന് ഇസ്രായേൽമുഴുവൻ ശേഖേമിൽ എത്തിച്ചേർന്നതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹവും അവിടെയെത്തി.
2 And it came to pass, when Jerobo'am the son of Nebat, heard of it, (but he was yet in Egypt, whither he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jerobo'am dwelt in Egypt;
ഇതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാം—അദ്ദേഹം ശലോമോൻരാജാവിന്റെ അടുത്തുനിന്ന് ഓടിപ്പോയി താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന ഈജിപ്റ്റിലായിരുന്നു അപ്പോഴും—ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് മടങ്ങിയെത്തി.
3 And they had sent and called him; ) that Jerobo'am and all the congregation of Israel came, and spoke unto Rehobo'am, saying,
അതിനാൽ ഇസ്രായേൽ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ യൊരോബെയാമിനെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി; അദ്ദേഹവും ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ സർവസഭയുംകൂടി രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കലെത്തി ഇപ്രകാരം ഉണർത്തിച്ചു:
4 Thy father made our yoke hard; but do thou now make lighter the hard service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
“അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവ് ഭാരമുള്ള ഒരു നുകമാണ് ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയിരുന്നത്; ആകയാൽ, ഇപ്പോൾ അങ്ങ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ കഠിനവേലയും അദ്ദേഹം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയിരുന്ന ഭാരമേറിയ നുകവും ലഘുവാക്കിത്തന്നാലും. അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ, ഞങ്ങൾ അങ്ങയെ സേവിച്ചുകൊള്ളാം.”
5 And he said unto them, Go away yet for three days, and then return to me. And the people went away.
“മൂന്നുദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞ് നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവരിക,” എന്ന് രെഹബെയാം മറുപടികൊടുത്തു. അങ്ങനെ ജനം മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
6 Then consulted king Rehobo'am with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I should give an answer to this people?
അതിനുശേഷം, രാജാവ് തന്റെ പിതാവായ ശലോമോനെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവിതകാലംമുഴുവൻ സേവിച്ചുനിന്നിരുന്ന വൃദ്ധജനങ്ങളുമായി കൂടിയാലോചിച്ചു. “ഞാൻ ഈ ജനത്തോട് എന്ത് മറുപടി പറയണം? നിങ്ങളുടെ ആലോചനയും അഭിപ്രായവും എന്ത്?” എന്ന് രെഹബെയാം അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
7 And they spoke unto him, saying, If thou wilt this day be a servant unto this people, and wilt serve them, and be attentive to them, and speak to them good words; then will they be servants unto thee for all times.
അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “ഇന്ന് അങ്ങ് ഈ ജനത്തിന് ഒരു സേവകനായിത്തീർന്ന് അവരെ സേവിക്കുകയും അവരോട് അനുകൂലമായ മറുപടി പറയുകയും ചെയ്താൽ അവർ എന്നും അങ്ങയുടെ ദാസന്മാരായിരിക്കും” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, those who stood before him:
എന്നാൽ, രെഹബെയാം വൃദ്ധജനങ്ങളുടെ ഉപദേശം സ്വീകരിച്ചില്ല. തന്നോടൊപ്പം വളർന്നവരും തന്നെ സേവിച്ചുനിൽക്കുന്നവരുമായ യുവജനങ്ങളുമായി അദ്ദേഹം കൂടിയാലോചിച്ചു.
9 And he said unto them, What do you counsel how we should give an answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make lighter the yoke which thy father did put upon us?
“നിങ്ങളുടെ ഉപദേശം എന്താണ്? ‘നിന്റെ പിതാവു ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയ നുകത്തിന്റെ ഭാരം കുറച്ചുതരിക,’ എന്ന് എന്നോടു പറയുന്ന ഈ ജനത്തോടു നാം എന്തു മറുപടി പറയണം?” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ചോദിച്ചു.
10 Then spoke unto him the young men that were grown up with him, saying, Thus must thou say unto this people that have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but do thou make it lighter unto us: thus must thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.
അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം വളർന്നുവന്ന ആ യുവജനങ്ങൾ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞത്: “‘അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവു ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ചുമത്തി; അതിന്റെ ഭാരം കുറച്ചുതരണം,’ എന്ന് അങ്ങയോടാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട ഈ ജനത്തോട് ഈ വിധം പറയണം: ‘എന്റെ ചെറുവിരൽ എന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ അരക്കെട്ടിനെക്കാളും വലുപ്പമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.
11 And now, if my father hath burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will even add to your yoke; if my father hath chastised you with whips, then will I chastise you with scorpion-thorns.
എന്റെ പിതാവ് നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ചുമത്തി; ഞാനതിനെ ഇനിയും കൂടുതൽ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കും. എന്റെ പിതാവു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാനോ, നിങ്ങളെ തേളുകളെക്കൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും.’”
12 When now Jerobo'am and all the people came to Rehobo'am on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, Return to me on the third day.
“മൂന്നുദിവസത്തിനുശേഷം എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവരിക,” എന്നു രാജാവു നിർദേശിച്ചിരുന്നതുപോലെ യൊരോബെയാമും സർവജനവും രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നു.
13 The king answered the people harshly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they had advised him;
വൃദ്ധജനം നൽകിയ ഉപദേശം അവഗണിച്ച രാജാവ് ജനത്തോടു വളരെ പരുഷമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.
14 And he spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will even add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpion-thorns.
യുവാക്കന്മാർ നൽകിയ ഉപദേശമനുസരിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം അവരോട്: “എന്റെ പിതാവു നിങ്ങളുടെ നുകത്തെ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കി; ഞാനതിനെ കൂടുതൽ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കും. എന്റെ പിതാവു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ തേളുകളെക്കൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
15 Thus the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was so brought about from the Lord, in order that he might fulfill his word, which the Lord had spoken by means of Achiyah the Shilonite unto Jerobo'am the son of Nebat.
ഇങ്ങനെ, രാജാവ് ജനങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ സ്വീകരിച്ചില്ല. നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിനോട് ശീലോന്യനായ അഹീയാവിലൂടെ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വാക്കുകൾ നിറവേറുന്നതിന് ഈ സംഭവവികാസം യഹോവയുടെ ഹിതപ്രകാരം ആയിരുന്നു.
16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people gave the king an answer saying, What portion have we in David? nor have we an inheritance in the son of Jesse; to your tents, O Israel: now see to thy own house, David. So did Israel go away unto their tents.
രാജാവു തങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ ചെവിക്കൊള്ളുന്നില്ല എന്നുകണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഇസ്രായേൽജനമെല്ലാം അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞത്: “ദാവീദിങ്കൽ നമുക്കെന്ത് ഓഹരി? യിശ്ശായിയുടെ പുത്രനിൽ നമുക്കെന്ത് ഓഹരി? ഇസ്രായേലേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങളിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളൂ. ദാവീദേ, ഇനി സ്വന്തഭവനത്തെ നോക്കിക്കൊള്ളുക!” അങ്ങനെ, ഇസ്രായേൽജനം താന്താങ്ങളുടെ ഭവനങ്ങളിലേക്കു മടങ്ങി.
17 But as for the children of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah, over them did Rehobo'am reign.
എന്നാൽ, യെഹൂദ്യനഗരങ്ങളിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇസ്രായേല്യർക്ക് രെഹബെയാം രാജാവായി തുടർന്നു.
18 Then sent king Rehobo'am Adoram, who was over the tribute; but all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehobo'am made speed with all his might to get up into his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
നിർബന്ധിതമായി വേലചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ ചുമതല വഹിച്ചിരുന്ന അദോനിരാമിനെ രെഹബെയാംരാജാവ് ഇസ്രായേല്യരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കയച്ചു. എന്നാൽ, അവരെല്ലാം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞുകൊന്നു. രെഹബെയാംരാജാവാകട്ടെ, കഷ്ടിച്ച് രഥത്തിലേറി ജെറുശലേമിലേക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോന്നു.
19 So did Israel rebel against the house of David unto this day.
ഇപ്രകാരം, ഇസ്രായേൽ ഇന്നുവരെ ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭവനത്തോടുള്ള മാത്സര്യത്തിൽ കഴിയുന്നു.
20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jerobo'am was returned, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, save the tribe of Judah alone.
യൊരോബെയാം ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്നും മടങ്ങിവന്നിട്ടുണ്ടെന്ന് എല്ലാ ഇസ്രായേല്യരും കേട്ടപ്പോൾ, ആളയച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഇസ്രായേൽ സഭയിലേക്കു ക്ഷണിച്ചുവരുത്തി സമസ്തഇസ്രായേലിനും രാജാവാക്കി. യെഹൂദാഗോത്രംമാത്രമല്ലാതെ മറ്റാരും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭവനത്തോടു പക്ഷംചേർന്നില്ല.
21 And when Rehobo'am was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehobo'am the son of Solomon.
രെഹബെയാം ജെറുശലേമിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം സകല യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തെയും ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രത്തെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി. അവർ ഒരുലക്ഷത്തി എൺപതിനായിരം യോദ്ധാക്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്യുന്നതിനും ശലോമോന്റെ മകനായ രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ രാജ്യം പുനഃസ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നതിനും ആയിരുന്നു അവരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടിയത്.
22 But the word of God came unto Shema'yah the man of God, saying,
എന്നാൽ, ദൈവപുരുഷനായ ശെമയ്യാവിന് ഇപ്രകാരം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി:
23 Say unto Rehobo'am, the son of Solomon, the king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,
“യെഹൂദാരാജാവും ശലോമോന്റെ പുത്രനുമായ രെഹബെയാമിനോടും യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിലെയും ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രത്തിലെയും സകലജനത്തോടും, ശേഷം ജനത്തോടും പറയുക:
24 Thus hath said the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight with your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for from me hath this thing been brought about. And they hearkened to the word of the Lord, and returned to go home, according to the word of the Lord.
‘നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ഇസ്രായേല്യരോടു യുദ്ധത്തിനു പോകരുത്. നിങ്ങൾ ഓരോരുത്തനും താന്താങ്ങളുടെ ഭവനത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുക. ഈ കാര്യം എന്റെ ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരം സംഭവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.’” അങ്ങനെ അവർ യഹോവയുടെ വചനമനുസരിച്ച് യഹോവയുടെ കൽപ്പനപ്രകാരം സ്വന്തം ഭവനങ്ങളിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
25 And Jerobo'am built Shechem in the mountain of Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and he went out from there and built Penuel.
പിന്നെ, യൊരോബെയാം മലനാടായ എഫ്രയീമിലെ ശേഖേം കോട്ടകെട്ടി പണിതുറപ്പിച്ച് അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു. അവിടെനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട് അദ്ദേഹം പെനീയേലും പണിതു.
26 And Jerobo'am said in his heart, Now may the kingdom return to the house of David:
പിന്നെ, യൊരോബെയാം മനസ്സിൽ ഇപ്രകാരം നിരൂപിച്ചു: “രാജ്യം മിക്കവാറും ദാവീദ് ഗൃഹത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്.
27 If this people go up to prepare sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then may the heart of this people turn again unto their Lord, even unto Rehobo'am the king of Judah, and they might kill me, and return to Rehobo'am the king of Judah.
ഈ ജനം ജെറുശലേമിൽ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്ക് യാഗങ്ങൾ അർപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി പോകുന്നപക്ഷം അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം യെഹൂദാരാജാവും തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനനുമായ രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ വശത്തേക്കുചായും. അവർ എന്നെ വധിച്ച് രെഹബെയാം രാജാവിന്റെ പക്ഷത്തേക്കു ചേരും.”
28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and he made two calves of gold, and said unto the people, You have been long enough going up to Jerusalem: behold, here are thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
അതിനാൽ, അദ്ദേഹം ഉപദേശം തേടിയശേഷം സ്വർണംകൊണ്ടുള്ള രണ്ടു കാളക്കിടാങ്ങളെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി. അദ്ദേഹം ജനത്തോട്: “ജെറുശലേംവരെ പോകുന്നത് നിങ്ങൾക്കു ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാണ്; ഇസ്രായേലേ, നിങ്ങളെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവന്നവനായ, നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേവന്മാർ ഇതാ!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
29 And he placed the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.
കാളക്കിടാങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നിനെ അദ്ദേഹം ബേഥേലിലും മറ്റേതിനെ ദാനിലും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.
30 And this thing became a sin; and the people went before the one, as far as Dan.
ഇത് ഒരു പാപമായിത്തീർന്നു; ജനം അവയെ ആരാധിക്കാൻ ബേഥേലിലേക്കും ദാനിലേക്കും യാത്രചെയ്തു.
31 And he made a house of the high-places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.
യാഗമർപ്പിച്ചുവന്നിരുന്ന മലകളിൽ യൊരോബെയാം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ നിർമിച്ചു; സകലജനത്തിൽനിന്നും പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ—ലേവ്യാഗോത്രത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഉള്ളവർ അല്ലായിരുന്നിട്ടും—നിയമിച്ചു.
32 And Jerobo'am made a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar; so did he in Beth-el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he stationed at Beth-el the priests of the high-places whom he had made.
യെഹൂദ്യയിൽ ആചരിച്ചുവന്ന രീതിയിലുള്ള ഉത്സവംപോലെ ഇവിടെയും എട്ടാംമാസത്തിന്റെ പതിനഞ്ചാംതീയതി ഒരു ഉത്സവം യൊരോബെയാം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തുകയും അവിടത്തെ യാഗപീഠത്തിൽ ബലികൾ അർപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ബേഥേലിൽ താൻ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ കാളക്കിടാങ്ങൾക്കു സ്വയം ബലി അർപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണ് യൊരോബെയാം ഇത് ബേഥേലിൽ നടപ്പാക്കിയത്. ബേഥേലിൽ താൻ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ അദ്ദേഹം പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും നിയമിച്ചു.
33 So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Beth-el on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month which he had falsely devised of his own heart; and he ordained a feast unto the children of Israel, and he went up to the altar, to burn incense.
അദ്ദേഹം സ്വമേധയാ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത എട്ടാംമാസം പതിനഞ്ചാംതീയതി ബേഥേലിൽ താൻ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ യാഗപീഠത്തിൽ ബലികൾ അർപ്പിച്ചു. സ്വയം യാഗപീഠത്തിൽ ധൂപാർച്ചന നടത്തി. അങ്ങനെ, അദ്ദേഹം ഇസ്രായേല്യർക്കുവേണ്ടി ഒരു ഉത്സവം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.
