1 Kings 1
1 Now king David was old, stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he could not become warm.
রাজা দাউদ যখন খুব বৃদ্ধ হয়ে গেলেন, তখন এমনকি তাঁর শরীর প্রচুর কাপড় দিয়ে ঢেকে রাখলেও গরম থাকত না।
2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let them seek out for my lord the king a young virgin, and let her stand before the king, and let her be an attendant on him; and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may become warm.
তাই তাঁর পরিচারকেরা তাঁকে বলল, “মহারাজের সেবা করার ও তাঁর যত্ন নেওয়ার জন্য আমরা একজন অল্পবয়স্ক কুমারী মেয়েকে খুঁজে আনি। সে আপনার পাশে শুয়ে থাকবে, যেন আমাদের প্রভু মহারাজের শরীর গরম থাকে।”
3 So they sought for a fair maiden throughout all the territory of Israel; and they found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
পরে তারা ইস্রায়েলের এক প্রান্ত থেকে আর এক প্রান্ত পর্যন্ত সুন্দরী এক যুবতীর খোঁজ করল এবং শূনেমীয়া অবীশগকে পেয়ে তাকে রাজার কাছে নিয়ে এসেছিল।
4 And the maiden was exceedingly fair; and she became an attendant on the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.
মেয়েটি অপরূপ সুন্দরী ছিল; সে মহারাজের দায়িত্ব নিয়েছিল ও খুব যত্নআত্তি করল, কিন্তু রাজা তার সঙ্গে যৌন সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করেননি।
5 And Adoniyah the son of Chaggith exalted himself, saying, I shall be king: and he procured himself a chariot and horsemen, and fifty men who ran before him.
এদিকে হগীতের ছেলে আদোনিয় আগ বাড়িয়ে বলে বেড়াচ্ছিল, “আমিই রাজা হব।” তাই সে রথ ও ঘোড়া সাজিয়েছিল, ও তার আগে আগে দৌড়ানোর জন্য 50 জন লোক জোগাড় করল।
6 And his father had never grieved him in all his life by saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was of a very goodly form; and his mother had born him after Abshalom.
(তার বাবা কখনও এই বলে তাকে তিরস্কার করেননি, “তুমি কেন এরকম আচরণ করছ?” সেও দেখতে খুব সুন্দর ছিল ও অবশালোমের পরেই তার জন্ম হল।)
7 And he had conferences with Joab the son of Zeruyah, and with Ebyathar the priest: and they, following Adoniyah, helped him.
আদোনিয় সরূয়ার ছেলে যোয়াব ও যাজক অবিয়াথরের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করল, এবং তারা তাকে তাদের সমর্থন জানিয়েছিলেন।
8 But Zadok the priest, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and Nathan the prophet, and Shim'i, and Re'i, and the mighty men that belonged to David, were not with Adoniyah.
কিন্তু যাজক সাদোক, যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়, ভাববাদী নাথন, শিমিয়ি ও রেয়ি এবং দাউদের বিশেষ রক্ষীদল আদোনিয়ের সঙ্গে যোগ দেননি।
9 And Adoniyah slaughtered sheep and oxen and fatted cattle by the stone Zocheleth, which is by 'En-rogel; and he invited all his brothers the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants;
আদোনিয় পরে ঐন-রোগেলের কাছে অবস্থিত সোহেলৎ পাথরে কয়েকটি মেষ, গবাদি পশু ও হৃষ্টপুষ্ট বাছুর বলি দিয়েছিল। সে তার সব ভাইকে, অর্থাৎ রাজার ছেলেদের, ও যিহূদার সব কর্মকর্তাকে নিমন্ত্রণ জানিয়েছিল,
10 But Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he invited not.
কিন্তু সে ভাববাদী নাথনকে বা বনায়কে বা বিশেষ রক্ষীদলকে অথবা তার ভাই শলোমনকে নিমন্ত্রণ জানায়নি।
11 And Nathan spoke unto Bath-sheba' the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adoniyah the son of Chaggith is become king, and [that] David our lord knoweth it not?
তখন শলোমনের মা বৎশেবাকে নাথন জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনি কি শোনেননি যে হগীতের ছেলে আদোনিয় রাজা হয়েছে, এবং আমাদের মনিব দাউদ এ বিষয়ে কিছুই জানেন না?
12 And now come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thy own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
তবে এখন, কীভাবে আপনি নিজের ও আপনার ছেলে শলোমনের প্রাণরক্ষা করবেন, সে বিষয়ে আমি আপনাকে পরামর্শ দিচ্ছি।
13 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy hand-maid, saying, Assuredly, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne? why then is Adoniyah become king?
রাজা দাউদের কাছে যান ও তাঁকে গিয়ে বলুন, ‘হে আমার প্রভু মহারাজ, আপনি কি আপনার দাসীর কাছে এই প্রতিজ্ঞা করেননি: “তোমার ছেলে শলোমন অবশ্যই আমার পরে রাজা হবে, ও সেই আমার সিংহাসনে বসবে”? তবে আদোনিয় কেন রাজা হল?’
14 And, lo, while thou shalt be yet speaking there with the king, I myself will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.
মহারাজের সঙ্গে আপনার কথাবার্তা শেষ হওয়ার আগেই আমি সেখানে পৌঁছে যাব ও আপনার বলা কথার সঙ্গে আমার নিজের কথাও যোগ করব।”
15 And Bath-sheba' went in unto the king into the chamber, and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering unto the king.
অতএব বৎশেবা বৃদ্ধ রাজামশাইকে দেখতে তাঁর ঘরে গেলেন। সেখানে তখন শূনেমীয়া অবীশগ তাঁর যত্নআত্তি করছিল।
16 And Bath-sheba' bowed, and prostrated herself unto the king: and the king said, What wouldst thou?
বৎশেবা মহারাজের সামনে উবুড় হয়ে তাঁকে প্রণাম করলেন। “তুমি কী চাও?” রাজামশাই জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন।
17 And she said unto him, My lord, thou thyself didst swear by the Lord thy God unto thy hand-maid, Assuredly, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne.
বৎশেবা তাঁকে বললেন, “হে আমার প্রভু, আপনার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর নামে আপনি নিজেই আপনার এই দাসী—আমার কাছে প্রতিজ্ঞা করলেন: ‘তোমার ছেলে শলোমন আমার পরে রাজা হবে, ও সে আমার সিংহাসনে বসবে।’
18 And now, behold, Adoniyah is become king; and now, my lord, O king, thou knowest it not:
কিন্তু এখন আদোনিয় রাজা হয়ে গিয়েছে, এবং আপনি, আমার প্রভু মহারাজ এ বিষয়ে কিছুই জানেন না।
19 And he hath slaughtered oxen and fatted cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath invited all the sons of the king, and Ebyathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but Solomon thy servant hath he not invited.
সে প্রচুর পরিমাণে গবাদি পশু, হৃষ্টপুষ্ট বাছুর ও মেষ বলি দিয়েছে, এবং রাজার ছেলেদের সবাইকে, যাজক অবিয়াথরকে ও সেনাপতি যোয়াবকে নিমন্ত্রণ করেছে, অথচ আপনার দাস শলোমনকে নিমন্ত্রণ করেননি।
20 And as for thee, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, to tell them, who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
হে আমার প্রভু মহারাজ, আপনার পরে আমার প্রভু মহারাজের সিংহাসনে কে বসবে তা জানার জন্য ইস্রায়েলে সবার চোখের দৃষ্টি আপনার উপর স্থির হয়ে আছে।
21 Otherwise it would come to pass, when my lord the king sleepeth with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon may be counted offenders.
তা না হলে, আমার প্রভু মহারাজ যেই না তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের সঙ্গে চিরবিশ্রামে শায়িত হবেন, আমার সঙ্গে ও আমার ছেলে শলোমনের সঙ্গে তখন অপরাধীর মতো ব্যবহার করা হবে।”
22 And, lo, while she was yet speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.
তিনি তখনও রাজার সঙ্গে কথা বলছিলেন, এমন সময় ভাববাদী নাথন সেখানে পৌঁছেছিলেন।
23 And they told the king, saying, Behold, here is Nathan the prophet: and when he was come in before the king, he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground.
রাজামশাইকে বলা হল, “ভাববাদী নাথন এখানে এসেছেন।” অতএব তিনি রাজার সামনে গিয়ে উবুড় হয়ে তাঁকে প্রণাম করলেন।
24 And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou then said, Adoniyah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
নাথন বললেন, “হে আমার প্রভু মহারাজ, আপনি কি ঘোষণা করেছেন যে আপনার পরে আদোনিয়ই রাজা হবে ও সেই আপনার সিংহাসনে বসবে?
25 For he is gone down this day, and hath slaughtered oxen and fatted cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath invited all the king's sons, and the captains of the army, and Ebyathar the priest: and, behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and they say, Long live king Adoniyah.
আজই সে নিচে নেমে গিয়ে প্রচুর পরিমাণে গবাদি পশু, হৃষ্টপুষ্ট বাছুর ও মেষ বলি দিয়েছে। সে রাজার ছেলেদের সবাইকে, সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতিদের ও যাজক অবিয়াথরকে নিমন্ত্রণ করল। ঠিক এই মুহূর্তে তারা তার সঙ্গে বসে ভোজনপান করছে ও বলছে, ‘রাজা আদোনিয় চিরজীবী হোন!’
26 But as for me, me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and thy servant Solomon, hath he not invited.
কিন্তু আপনার এই দাস আমাকে, যাজক সাদোককে, ও যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়কে এবং আপনার দাস শলোমনকে সে নিমন্ত্রণ করেননি।
27 Can it be that this hath been done by order of my lord the king, and thou hast not informed thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
আমার প্রভু মহারাজের পরে তাঁর সিংহাসনে কে বসবে সে বিষয়ে তাঁর দাসদের কিছু না জানিয়ে কি আমার প্রভু মহারাজ কিছু সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন?”
28 Then answered king David, and said, Call me Bath-sheba'; and she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.
তখন রাজা দাউদ বললেন, “বৎশেবাকে ডেকে আনো।” অতএব তিনি রাজার কাছে এসে তাঁর সামনে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন।
29 And the king swore and said, As the Lord liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,
রাজামশাই তখন একটি শপথ নিয়েছিলেন: “যিনি আমাকে সব বিপত্তি থেকে রক্ষা করেছেন, সেই জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি,
30 Even as I have sworn unto thee by the Lord the God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne in my stead: even so will I certainly do this day.
আমি ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর নামে তোমার কাছে যে প্রতিজ্ঞাটি করলাম, সেটি আমি অবশ্যই পালন করব: তোমার ছেলে শলোমনই আমার পরে রাজা হবে, আর আমার স্থানে আমার সিংহাসনে সেই বসবে।”
31 Then did Bath-sheba' bow herself with her face to the earth, and prostrate herself unto the king; and she said, May my lord, the king David, live for ever!
তখন বৎশেবা মাটিতে উবুড় হয়ে রাজামশাইকে প্রণাম করে বললেন, “আমার প্রভু মহারাজ দাউদ, চিরজীবী হোন!”
32 And king David said, Call unto me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada'. And they came before the king.
রাজা দাউদ বললেন, “যাজক সাদোক, ভাববাদী নাথন ও যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়কে ডেকে আনো।” তারা রাজার সামনে আসার পর
33 And the king said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon my own mule, and conduct him down to Gichon:
তিনি তাদের বললেন: “তোমরা তোমাদের মনিবের দাসদের সঙ্গে নাও ও আমার ছেলে শলোমনকে আমার নিজস্ব খচ্চরের পিঠে চাপিয়ে তাকে নিয়ে গীহোন জলের উৎসে নেমে যাও।
34 And let Zadok the priest with Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel; and blow ye with the cornet, and say, Long live king Solomon.
সেখানে গিয়ে যাজক সাদোক ও ভাববাদী নাথন তাকে ইস্রায়েলের উপর রাজপদে অভিষিক্ত করুক। তোমরা শিঙা বাজিয়ে চিৎকার করে বোলো, ‘রাজা শলোমন দীর্ঘজীবী হোন!’
35 Then shall ye go up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; and he shall be king in my stead: and him have I ordained to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.
পরে তোমরা তার সঙ্গে থেকে উপরে উঠে যেয়ো ও সে এসে আমার সিংহাসনে বসে আমার স্থানে রাজত্ব করুক। আমি তাকে ইস্রায়েল ও যিহূদার উপর শাসক নিযুক্ত করলাম।”
36 And Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' answered the king, and said, Amen: May thus say the Eternal the God of my lord the king.
যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায় রাজামশাইকে উত্তর দিলেন, “আমেন! আমার প্রভু মহারাজের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুও এরকমই ঘোষণা করুন।
37 As the Eternal hath been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and may he make his throne greater than the throne of my lord the king David.
সদাপ্রভু যেমন আমার প্রভু মহারাজের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ছিলেন, তিনি যেন সেভাবেই শলোমনেরও সঙ্গে সঙ্গে থাকেন ও তাঁর সিংহাসন আমার প্রভু মহারাজ দাউদের সিংহাসনের চেয়েও বড়ো করলেন!”
38 Thereupon Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and conducted him to Gichon.
অতএব যাজক সাদোক, ভাববাদী নাথন, যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়, করেথীয়রা ও পলেথীয়রা শলোমনকে রাজা দাউদের খচ্চরের পিঠে চাপিয়ে, তাঁর সমগামী হয়ে তাঁকে গীহোনে নিয়ে গেলেন।
39 And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew with the cornet; and all the people said, Long live king Solomon.
যাজক সাদোক পবিত্র তাঁবু থেকে তেলের সেই শিং নিয়ে এসে শলোমনকে অভিষিক্ত করলেন। পরে তারা শিঙা বাজিয়েছিলেন ও সব লোকজন চিৎকার করে উঠেছিল, “রাজা শলোমন দীর্ঘজীবী হোন!”
40 And all the people went up after him, and the people blew on flutes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth was rent at their noise.
সব লোকজন তাঁর পিছু পিছু বাঁশি বাজিয়ে ও মহানন্দে এমনভাবে ছুটতে শুরু করল, যে সেই শব্দে মাটি কেঁপে উঠেছিল।
41 And Adoniyah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had just finished eating: and when Joab heard the sound of the cornet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city in an uproar?
আদোনিয় ও তার সঙ্গে থাকা সব অতিথি ভোজসভার ভোজনপান প্রায় শেষ করে এসেছে, এমন সময় তারা সেই শব্দ শুনতে পেয়েছিল। শিঙার শব্দ শুনতে পেয়ে যোয়াব জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “নগরে কী এত চিৎকার-চেঁচামেচি হচ্ছে?”
42 And while he was yet speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Ebyathar the priest came in: and Adoniyah said [unto him], Come in; for thou art a worthy man, and must bring good tidings.
তিনি একথা বলতে না বলতেই যাজক অবিয়াথরের ছেলে যোনাথন সেখানে পৌঁছে গেলেন। আদোনিয় বলল, “আসুন, আসুন। আপনার মতো গুণীজন নিশ্চয় ভালো খবরই নিয়ে এসেছেন।”
43 And Jonathan answered and said to Adoniyah, Alas, no; our lord king David hath made Solomon king;
“একেবারেই না!” যোনাথন আদোনিয়কে উত্তর দিলেন। “আমাদের প্রভু মহারাজ দাউদ শলোমনকে রাজা করেছেন।
44 And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule;
মহারাজ তাঁর সঙ্গে যাজক সাদোক, ভাববাদী নাথন, যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়, করেথীয় ও পলেথীয়দেরও পাঠালেন, এবং তারা শলোমনকে মহারাজের খচ্চরের পিঠে চাপিয়ে দিলেন,
45 And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him as king on the Gichon; and they are come up from there rejoicing, and the city hath been set in commotion. This is the noise that ye have heard.
এবং যাজক সাদোক ও ভাববাদী নাথন গীহোনে তাঁকে রাজপদে অভিষিক্ত করেছেন। সেখান থেকে তারা হর্ষধ্বনি করতে করতে চলে গিয়েছেন, এবং নগরেও তার প্রতিধ্বনি ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। তোমরা এই চিৎকারই শুনেছ।
46 And Solomon hath also sat on the kingly throne.
এছাড়াও, শলোমন রাজসিংহাসনে বসে পড়েছেন।
47 And also the king's servants are come to bless our lord king David, saying, May God make the name of Solomon more famous than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne: and the king hath bowed himself upon the bed.
আবার, রাজকর্মচারীরা এই বলে আমাদের প্রভু মহারাজ দাউদকে অভিনন্দন জানাতে এসেছে যে, ‘আপনার ঈশ্বর, শলোমনের নাম আপনার নামের চেয়েও বিখ্যাত করে তুলুন এবং তাঁর সিংহাসন আপনার সিংহাসনের চেয়েও বড়ো করে তুলুন!’ মহারাজ নিজের বিছানাতেই আরাধনা করে
48 And also thus hath the king said, Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who hath given [me] this day one who sitteth on my throne, while my eyes see it.
বলেছেন, ‘ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর প্রশংসা হোক, যিনি আজ আমাকে নিজের চোখেই আমার সিংহাসনের উত্তরাধিকারী দেখে যাওয়ার সুযোগ দিলেন।’”
49 And all the guests that were with Adoniyah were terrified, and rose up, and went, every man, on his own way.
একথা শুনে আদোনিয়ের অতিথিরা সবাই আতঙ্কগ্রস্ত হয়ে উঠে ছত্রভঙ্গ হয়ে গেল।
50 And Adoniyah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
কিন্তু আদোনিয় শলোমনের ভয়ে গিয়ে যজ্ঞবেদির শিংগুলি আঁকড়ে জড়িয়ে ধরেছিল।
51 And it was told unto Solomon, saying, Behold, Adoniyah feareth king Solomon; and, behold, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me today that he will not slay his servant with the sword.
তখন শলোমনকে বলা হল, “আদোনিয় রাজা শলোমনের ভয়ে যজ্ঞবেদির শিংগুলি আঁকড়ে ধরে আছে। সে বলছে, ‘রাজা শলোমন আজ আমার কাছে শপথ করে বলুন যে তিনি তাঁর দাসকে তরোয়ালের আঘাতে হত্যা করবেন না।’”
52 And Solomon said, If he will become a worthy man, there shall not a hair of his fall to the earth; but if any wrong shall be found on him, then shall he die.
শলোমন উত্তর দিলেন, “সে যদি নিজেকে অনুগত প্রমাণিত করতে পারে, তবে তার মাথার একটি চুলও মাটিতে পড়বে না; কিন্তু যদি তার মধ্যে দুষ্টতা খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়, তবে তাকে মরতেই হবে।”
53 So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar; and he came and bowed himself to king Solomon; and Solomon said unto him, Go to thy house.
পরে রাজা শলোমন লোক পাঠালেন, ও তারা তাকে যজ্ঞবেদি থেকে নামিয়ে এনেছিল। আদোনিয় এসে রাজা শলোমনের কাছে নতজানু হল, ও শলোমন বললেন, “তোমার ঘরে ফিরে যাও।”
