Psalms 78
1 [A Psalm] of instruction for Asaph. Give heed, O my people, to my law: incline your ear to the words of my mouth.
Eine Unterweisung; von Asaph. Höre, mein Volk, meine Lehre, neiget eure Ohren zu den Reden meines Mundes!
2 I will open my mouth in parables: I will utter dark sayings [which have been] from the beginning.
Ich will meinen Mund zu einem Spruche öffnen, will Rätsel vortragen aus alter Zeit,
3 All which we have heard and known, and our fathers have declared to us.
was wir gehört und gelernt und was unsre Väter uns erzählt haben.
4 They were not hid from their children to a second generations; [the fathers] declaring the praises of the Lord, and his mighty acts, and his wonders which he wrought.
Es wurde ihren Söhnen nicht vorenthalten, sondern sie haben dem spätern Geschlecht den Ruhm des HERRN erzählt, seine Macht und seine Wunder, die er getan,
5 And he raised up a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, to make it known to their children:
nämlich, daß er ein Zeugnis aufstellte in Jakob und ein Gesetz gab in Israel, von welchem er unsern Vätern befahl, es ihren Kindern kundzutun,
6 that another generation might know, even the sons which should be born; and they should arise and declare them to their children.
damit das spätere Geschlecht es wisse, die Kinder, die noch sollten geboren werden, und damit auch sie, wenn sie aufgewachsen wären, es ihren Kindern erzählten;
7 That they might set their hope on God, and not forget the works of God, but diligently seek his commandments.
daß diese auf Gott ihr Vertrauen setzten und nicht vergäßen die Taten Gottes und seine Gebote befolgten
8 That they should not be as their fathers, a perverse and provoking generation; a generation which set not its heart aright, and its spirit was not steadfast with God.
und nicht würden wie ihre Väter, ein abtrünniges und widerspenstiges Geschlecht, ein Geschlecht, das kein festes Herz hatte, und dessen Geist nicht treu war gegen Gott.
9 The children of Ephraim, bending and shooting [with] the bow, turned [back] in the day of battle.
Die Kinder Ephraims, geübte Bogenschützen, wandten um am Tage der Schlacht.
10 They kept not the covenant of God, and would not walk in his law.
Sie bewahrten den Bund Gottes nicht und wollten nicht nach seinem Gesetze wandeln.
11 And they forgot his benefits, and his miracles which he [had] showed them;
Und sie vergaßen seine Taten und seine Wunder, die er ihnen erzeigt.
12 the miracles which he wrought before their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the plain of Tanes.
Vor ihren Vätern hatte er Wunder getan im Lande Ägypten, im Gefilde Zoan.
13 He clave the sea, and led them through: he made the waters to stand as [in] a bottle.
Er spaltete das Meer und führte sie hindurch und türmte die Wasser auf wie einen Damm,
14 And he guided them with a cloud by day, and all the night with a light of fire.
und leitete sie bei Tag mit einer Wolke und während der ganzen Nacht mit einem hellen Feuer.
15 he clave a rock in the wilderness, and made them drink as in a great deep.
Er spaltete Felsen in der Wüste und tränkte sie wie mit großen Fluten,
16 And he brought water out of the rock, and caused waters to flow down as rivers.
und ließ Bäche aus dem Felsen hervorspringen und Wasser herabfließen in Strömen.
17 And they sinned yet more against him; they provoked the Most High in the wilderness.
Dennoch fuhren sie fort, wider ihn zu sündigen und den Höchsten zu erzürnen in der Wüste.
18 And they tempted God in their hearts, in asking meat for [the desire of] their souls.
Und sie versuchten Gott in ihrem Herzen, indem sie Speise forderten nach ihrem Gelüste.
19 They spoke also against God, and said, Will God be able to prepare a table in the wilderness?
Und sie redeten wider Gott und sprachen: «Kann Gott einen Tisch bereiten in der Wüste?
20 Forasmuch as he struck the rock, and the waters flowed, and the torrents ran abundantly; will he be able also to give bread, or prepare a table for his people?
Siehe, er hat den Felsen geschlagen, daß Wasser flossen und Bäche sich ergossen. Kann er aber auch Brot geben? Wird er seinem Volke Fleisch verschaffen?»
21 Therefore the Lord heard, and was provoked: and fire was kindled in Jacob, and wrath went up against Israel.
Darum, als der HERR das hörte, ward er entrüstet, und Feuer entbrannte wider Jakob, ja, Zorn stieg auf über Israel,
22 Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation.
weil sie Gott nicht glaubten und nicht auf seine Hilfe vertrauten.
23 Yet he commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
Und er gebot den Wolken droben und öffnete die Türen des Himmels;
24 and rained upon them manna to eat, and gave them the bread of heaven.
und er ließ Manna auf sie regnen zum Essen und gab ihnen Himmelskorn.
25 Man ate angels' bread; he sent them provision to the full.
Der Mensch aß Engelsbrot; er sandte ihnen Speise genug.
26 He removed the south wind from heaven; and by his might he brought in the southwest wind.
Er erregte den Ostwind am Himmel und führte durch seine Kraft den Südwind herbei,
27 And he rained upon them flesh like dust, and feathered birds like the sand of the seas.
ließ Fleisch auf sie regnen wie Staub und beschwingte Vögel wie Sand am Meer,
28 And they fell into the midst of their camp, round about their tents.
und ließ sie fallen mitten in ihr Lager, rings um ihre Wohnung her.
29 So they ate, and were completely filled; and he gave them their desire.
Da aßen sie und wurden allzu satt; was sie gewünscht hatten, gewährte er ihnen.
30 They were not disappointed of their desire: [but] when their food was yet in their mouth,
Sie hatten sich ihres Gelüstes noch nicht entschlagen, und ihre Speise war noch in ihrem Munde,
31 then the indignation of God rose up against them, and killed the fattest of them, and overthrew the choice men of Israel.
als der Zorn Gottes sich wider sie erhob und die Fetten unter ihnen erwürgte und die Jungmannschaft Israels darniederstürzte.
32 In the midst of all this they sinned yet more, and believed not his miracles.
Trotz alledem sündigten sie weiter und glaubten nicht an seine Wunder.
33 And their days were consumed in vanity, and their years with anxiety.
Darum ließ er ihre Tage wie einen Hauch vergehen und ihre Jahre durch plötzlichen Untergang.
34 When he killed them, they sought him: and they returned and called betimes upon God.
Wenn er sie tötete, so suchten sie ihn und kehrten sich wieder zu Gott
35 And they remembered that God was their helper, and the most high God was their redeemer.
und dachten daran, daß Gott ihr Fels sei, und Gott, der Höchste, ihr Erlöser.
36 Yet they loved him [only] with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
Aber sie heuchelten ihm mit ihrem Munde und logen mit ihren Zungen;
37 For their heart [was] not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.
denn ihr Herz war nicht aufrichtig gegen ihn, und sie hielten nicht treu an seinem Bund.
38 But he is compassionate, and will forgive their sins, and will not destroy [them]: yes, he will frequently turn away his wrath, and will not kindle all his anger.
Er aber war barmherzig und vergab die Schuld und vertilgte sie nicht und hat oftmals seinen Zorn abgewandt und nicht allen seinen Grimm erweckt;
39 And he remembered that they are flesh; a wind that passes away, and returns not.
denn er dachte daran, daß sie Fleisch seien, ein Wind, der hinfährt und nicht wiederkehrt.
40 How often did they provoke him in the wilderness, [and] anger him in a dry land!
Wie oft empörten sie sich wider ihn in der Wüste und betrübten ihn in der Einöde!
41 Yes, they turned back, and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
Und sie versuchten Gott immer wieder und kränkten den Heiligen Israels.
42 They remembered not his hand, the day in which he delivered them from the hand of the oppressor.
Sie sind seiner Hand nicht eingedenk gewesen, des Tages, da er sie vom Feinde erlöste;
43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Tanes:
da er seine Zeichen tat in Ägypten und seine Wunder im Gefilde Zoan;
44 and had changed their rivers into blood; and their streams, that they should not drink.
als er ihre Ströme in Blut verwandelte und ihre Bäche, so daß man nicht trinken konnte;
45 He sent against them the dog-fly, and it devoured them; and the frog, and it spoiled them.
da er Ungeziefer unter sie sandte, das sie fraß, und Frösche, die sie verderbten;
46 And he gave their fruit to the canker worm, and their labors to the locust.
da er den Fressern ihre Früchte gab und den Heuschrecken ihre Erzeugnisse;
47 He killed their vines with hail, and their sycamores with frost.
da er ihre Weinstöcke mit Hagel schlug und ihre Maulbeerbäume mit Schlossen
48 And he gave up their cattle to hail, and their substance to the fire.
und ihr Vieh dem Hagel preisgab und ihre Herden den Wetterstrahlen;
49 He sent out against them the fury of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and affliction, a message by evil angels.
da er gegen sie die Glut seines Zornes entsandte, Grimm und Ungnade und Drangsal, Scharen von Unglücksengeln;
50 He made a way for his wrath; he spared not their souls from death, but consigned their cattle to death;
da er seinem Zorn den Lauf ließ, ihre Seele nicht vor dem Tod bewahrte, sondern ihr Leben der Pest preisgab;
51 and struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt; the first fruits of their labors in the tents of Cham.
da er alle Erstgeburt in Ägypten schlug, die Erstlinge ihrer Kraft in den Hütten Hams.
52 And he removed his people like sheep; he led them as a flock in the wilderness.
Und er ließ sein Volk ausziehen wie Schafe und leitete sie wie eine Herde in der Wüste
53 And he guided them with hope, and they feared not: but the sea covered their enemies.
und führte sie sicher, daß sie sich nicht fürchteten; ihre Feinde aber bedeckte das Meer.
54 And he brought them in to the mountain of his sanctuary, this mountain which his right hand had purchased.
Und er brachte sie in die Grenzen seines Heiligtums; zu diesem Berg, den seine Rechte erworben.
55 And he cast out the nations from before them, and made them to inherit by a line of inheritance, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
Und er vertrieb vor ihnen her die Heiden und teilte ihnen das Erbe aus mit der Meßschnur und ließ in ihren Zelten die Stämme Israels wohnen.
56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies.
Aber sie versuchten und erzürnten den höchsten Gott und hielten seine Zeugnisse nicht,
57 And they turned back, and broke covenant, even as also their fathers: they became like a crooked bow.
sondern wichen zurück und fielen ab wie ihre Väter; sie gingen fehl wie ein trügerischer Bogen.
58 And they provoked him with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
Und sie reizten ihn zum Zorn durch ihre Höhen und zur Eifersucht durch ihre Götzen.
59 God heard and lightly regarded [them], and greatly despised Israel.
Gott hörte es und entrüstete sich und verabscheute Israel sehr.
60 And he rejected the tabernacle of Selom, his tent where he lived among men.
Und er verließ seine Wohnung zu Silo, das Zelt, wo er unter den Menschen wohnte,
61 And he gave their strength into captivity, and their beauty into the enemy's hand.
und gab seine Macht in Gefangenschaft und seine Herrlichkeit in Feindeshand,
62 And he gave his people to the sword; and disdained his inheritance.
und überlieferte sein Volk dem Schwert und war entrüstet über sein Erbe.
63 Fire devoured their young men; and their virgins mourned not.
Seine Jünglinge hat das Feuer verzehrt, und seine Jungfrauen mußten ohne Brautlied bleiben.
64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows shall not be wept for.
Seine Priester sind durchs Schwert gefallen, und seine Witwen konnten nicht weinen.
65 So the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, [and] as a mighty man who has been heated with wine.
Da erwachte der Herr wie ein Schlafender, wie ein Starker, der sich Mut zugetrunken.
66 And he struck his enemies in the hinder parts: he brought on them a perpetual reproach.
Und er schlug seine Feinde zurück, ewige Schande fügte er ihnen zu.
67 And he rejected the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim;
Und er verwarf das Zelt Josephs und erwählte nicht den Stamm Ephraim,
68 but chose the tribe of Juda, the mount Sion which he loved.
sondern erwählte den Stamm Juda, den Berg Zion, welchen er liebt.
69 And he built his sanctuary as [the place] of unicorns; he founded it for ever on the earth.
Und er baute sein Heiligtum wie Himmelshöhen, gleich der Erde, die er auf ewig gegründet hat.
70 He chose David also his servant, and took him up from the flocks of sheep.
Und er erwählte seinen Knecht David und nahm ihn von den Schafhürden weg.
71 He took him from following the ewes great with young, to be the shepherd of Jacob his servant, and Israel his inheritance.
Da er den tragenden Schafen nachging, holte er ihn, daß er weiden sollte Jakob, sein Volk, und Israel, sein Erbe.
72 So he tended them in the innocency of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
Und er weidete sie mit aller Treue seines Herzens und leitete sie mit geschickter Hand.
