< Psalms 78 >
1 [A Psalm] of instruction for Asaph. Give heed, O my people, to my law: incline your ear to the words of my mouth.
Asaph ih maskil. Aw kai ih kaminawk, kang patuk ih kaalok ah naa to patueng oh loe, ka pakha hoi tacawt loknawk hae tahngai oh.
2 I will open my mouth in parables: I will utter dark sayings [which have been] from the beginning.
Patahhaih hoiah pakha to ka paongh moe, canghnii ah thuih ih kathuk loknawk to kang thuih o han,
3 All which we have heard and known, and our fathers have declared to us.
to loknawk loe aicae ampanawk mah aicae khaeah thuih o boeh, aicae mah a thaih o moe, a panoek o boeh.
4 They were not hid from their children to a second generations; [the fathers] declaring the praises of the Lord, and his mighty acts, and his wonders which he wrought.
Nihcae ih caanawk khaeah kang phat pae o mak ai; Angraeng saphawhaih, a thacakhaih, a sak ih dawnrai hmuennawk loe, angzo han koi adung kaminawk khaeah amtuengsak tih.
5 And he raised up a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, to make it known to their children:
Jakob acaeng hanah lok a paek, Israel caanawk khaeah kaalok to a caksak, anih mah aicae ampanawk khaeah, na caanawk han patuk o patoeng ah:
6 that another generation might know, even the sons which should be born; and they should arise and declare them to their children.
angzo han koi nawktanawk hoi tapen han koi nawktanawk mah doeh panoek o moe, a caanawk khaeah thuih pae o patoeng hanah,
7 That they might set their hope on God, and not forget the works of God, but diligently seek his commandments.
Sithaw to oep o moe, Sithaw mah sak ih hmuennawk to pahnet ai ah, a paek ih loknawk to pazui o hanah, lokthui pae ah:
8 That they should not be as their fathers, a perverse and provoking generation; a generation which set not its heart aright, and its spirit was not steadfast with God.
nihcae loe palung thah o moe, laisaep o thaih, poek toeng ai kami, Sithaw oephaih muithla tawn ai, ampanawk baktiah om o ai.
9 The children of Ephraim, bending and shooting [with] the bow, turned [back] in the day of battle.
Ephraim caanawk loe kalii avak o moe, misa to tuk o, toe hnukbangah amlaem o let.
10 They kept not the covenant of God, and would not walk in his law.
Nihcae loe Sithaw lokmaihaih to pakuem o ai, anih mah paek ih kaalok to pazui han koeh o ai.
11 And they forgot his benefits, and his miracles which he [had] showed them;
Nihcae loe anih mah sak ih toknawk hoi nihcae khaeah amtuengsak ih dawnrai hmuennawk to pahnet o.
12 the miracles which he wrought before their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the plain of Tanes.
Izip prae, Zoan ah ampanawk hmaa ah anih mah dawnrai hmuennawk to sak pae.
13 He clave the sea, and led them through: he made the waters to stand as [in] a bottle.
Anih mah tuipui to pakhoih moe, tui to angkatsak; tuinawk to tapang baktiah angdoetsak.
14 And he guided them with a cloud by day, and all the night with a light of fire.
Khodai ah tamai hoiah a zaeh, khoving ah aqum puek hmaithaw hoiah a hoih.
15 he clave a rock in the wilderness, and made them drink as in a great deep.
Praezaek ah lungsongnawk to boh moe, tuipui baktiah pop parai tui to nihcae hanah a paek.
16 And he brought water out of the rock, and caused waters to flow down as rivers.
Thlung thung hoiah tui to tacawtsak moe, tuinawk to vapui baktiah a longsak.
17 And they sinned yet more against him; they provoked the Most High in the wilderness.
Toe nihcae loe anih nuiah zaehaih to sak o aep, Kasang koek to praezaek ah laisaep o thuih vop.
18 And they tempted God in their hearts, in asking meat for [the desire of] their souls.
Angmacae zok kamthlam dipsak han ih khue ni Sithaw to tanoek o.
19 They spoke also against God, and said, Will God be able to prepare a table in the wilderness?
Ue, nihcae loe Sithaw aekhaih lok to thuih o; praezaek ah Sithaw mah caboi na baih pae tang tih maw? tiah a thuih o.
20 Forasmuch as he struck the rock, and the waters flowed, and the torrents ran abundantly; will he be able also to give bread, or prepare a table for his people?
Khenah, thlung a boh naah, tui to tacawt moe, pop parai vacong tui ah longh; takaw doeh na paek thai tih maw? Angmah ih kaminawk hanah moi doeh paek thai tih maw? tiah a thuih o.
21 Therefore the Lord heard, and was provoked: and fire was kindled in Jacob, and wrath went up against Israel.
Angraeng mah to lok to thaih naah, palungphui; Jakob acaengnawk to hmai mah kangh moe, Israel caanawk nuiah palungphuihaih to phak,
22 Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation.
tipongah tih nahaeloe nihcae loe Sithaw tang o ai, anih ih pahlonghaih ah doeh oephaih to tawn o ai.
23 Yet he commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
Toe anih mah ranui ih tamai to lokpaek moe, van thoknawk to amongh,
24 and rained upon them manna to eat, and gave them the bread of heaven.
caak hanah nihcae nuiah manna kho to angzoh pae; nihcae hanah van takaw to a paek.
25 Man ate angels' bread; he sent them provision to the full.
Kaminawk loe vankaminawk ih buh to caak o; nihcae zok amhah hanah caaknaek to a paek.
26 He removed the south wind from heaven; and by his might he brought in the southwest wind.
Ni angyae bang ih takhi to van ah a songsak moe, a thacakhaih hoiah aloih bang ih takhi to a songsak.
27 And he rained upon them flesh like dust, and feathered birds like the sand of the seas.
Maiphu baktiah moi to kho ah angzohsak, tuipui taeng ih savuet baktiah tavaanawk to azawksak.
28 And they fell into the midst of their camp, round about their tents.
A sak o ih im salak hoi nihcae ataihaih ahmuen taengah a kraksak.
29 So they ate, and were completely filled; and he gave them their desire.
Nihcae koeh ih baktiah anih mah paek pongah, nihcae loe caak o moe, zok amhah o.
30 They were not disappointed of their desire: [but] when their food was yet in their mouth,
A koeh o ih buhcaakhaih to angkhoe o ai vop, buh a caak o li naah,
31 then the indignation of God rose up against them, and killed the fattest of them, and overthrew the choice men of Israel.
Sithaw palungphuihaih to nihcae nuiah phak, nihcae thungah kathawk koek kami to anih mah hum pae ving; a qoih o ih Israel thendoengnawk to dueksak.
32 In the midst of all this they sinned yet more, and believed not his miracles.
Hae baktih hmuennawk boih a tongh o, toe anih mah sak ih dawnrai hmuennawk to tang o ai, zaehaih to a sak o toeng toeng vop.
33 And their days were consumed in vanity, and their years with anxiety.
To pongah nihcae ih ani to azom pui ah laemsak moe, saningnawk to raihaih hoiah boengsak.
34 When he killed them, they sought him: and they returned and called betimes upon God.
Sithaw mah nihcae to hum naah, kalah kaminawk loe amlaem o let moe, Sithaw to palung tang hoiah pakrong o.
35 And they remembered that God was their helper, and the most high God was their redeemer.
Sithaw loe angmacae ih lungsong, Kasang koek loe angmacae pahlongkung ah oh, tiah nihcae mah panoek o.
36 Yet they loved him [only] with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
Toe pakha hoiah ni anih to pakoeh o, anih khaeah palai hoi amsawnlok to a thuih o.
37 For their heart [was] not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.
Anih khaeah poek toenghaih tawn o ai, a sak o ih lokkamhaih nuiah doeh oephaih tawn o ai.
38 But he is compassionate, and will forgive their sins, and will not destroy [them]: yes, he will frequently turn away his wrath, and will not kindle all his anger.
Toe anih loe tahmenhaih hoiah koi pongah, nihcae zaehaih to tahmen pae, nihcae to amrosak ai: ue, pop parai palungphuihaih to anih mah pauep, palung a phuihaih to amtuengsak ai.
39 And he remembered that they are flesh; a wind that passes away, and returns not.
Sithaw mah nihcae loe taksa ah ni oh o, kalaem tangcae amlaem let thai ai takhi ah ni oh o, tiah panoek.
40 How often did they provoke him in the wilderness, [and] anger him in a dry land!
Anih to praezaek ah vai nazetto maw laisaep o thuih moe, taw ah nazetto maw palungset o sak?
41 Yes, they turned back, and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
Ue, nihcae loe hnukbangah amlaem o moe, Sithaw to tanoek o, Israel Ciimcai Kami to palungphui o sak.
42 They remembered not his hand, the day in which he delivered them from the hand of the oppressor.
Anih thacakhaih to nihcae mah panoek o ai, anih mah misa ban thung hoi pahlonghaih to panoek o ai.
43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Tanes:
Izip prae ah sak ih angmathaih, Zoan ah sak ih dawnrai hmuennawk;
44 and had changed their rivers into blood; and their streams, that they should not drink.
nihcae mah tui naek o thaih han ai ah, vapuinawk hoi vacongnawk to athii ah angcoengsak.
45 He sent against them the dog-fly, and it devoured them; and the frog, and it spoiled them.
Nihcae kaek hanah taksaenawk to prawt pae moe, nihcae amrosak hanah ukongnawk to patoeh.
46 And he gave their fruit to the canker worm, and their labors to the locust.
Nihcae ih thingthai qumponawk loe langkawk hanah paek moe, nihcae ih hmuennawk doeh pakhu hanah a paek.
47 He killed their vines with hail, and their sycamores with frost.
Nihcae ih misurkungnawk to qaetui hoiah dueksak moe, thaiduetkungnawk doeh dantui hoiah dueksak.
48 And he gave up their cattle to hail, and their substance to the fire.
Sithaw mah nihcae ih maitawnawk to qaetui hanah paek moe, tuunawk doeh hmai hanah paek pae.
49 He sent out against them the fury of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and affliction, a message by evil angels.
Anih palungphuihaih tha hoiah nihcae khaeah kasae vankaminawk to patoeh moe, palungbethaih, palung hmai amngaehhaih hoi raihaihnawk to ohsak.
50 He made a way for his wrath; he spared not their souls from death, but consigned their cattle to death;
Palungphuihaih loklam to a sak; nihcae ih pakhra paduek hanah paawt ai, nihcae hinghaih to nathaih kasae khaeah a paek.
51 and struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt; the first fruits of their labors in the tents of Cham.
Izip prae ah calunawk boih, Ham ih kahni imthung ah kaom thacak tangsuekhaih calu koek to paduek pae boih.
52 And he removed his people like sheep; he led them as a flock in the wilderness.
Toe angmah ih kaminawk loe tuu baktiah a huih moe, tuunawk baktiah praezaek ah a caeh haih.
53 And he guided them with hope, and they feared not: but the sea covered their enemies.
Misa ban thung hoi loih hanah anih mah zaeh pongah, nihcae loe zii o ai; toe nihcae ih misanawk loe tuipui mah khuk khoep.
54 And he brought them in to the mountain of his sanctuary, this mountain which his right hand had purchased.
Nihcae to kaciim ahmuen angzithaih ramri khoek to, a bantang ban hoiah lak ih mae karoek to a caeh haih.
55 And he cast out the nations from before them, and made them to inherit by a line of inheritance, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
Nihcae hmaa ah Sithaw panoek ai kaminawk to a haek pae, qawk ah toep ih long to tah o moe, amzet o, Israel caanawk loe imsak o moe, to ah oh o.
56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies.
Toe nihcae mah Kasang koek Sithaw to tanoek o moe, laisaep o thuih, a thuih ih lok to tahngai o ai.
57 And they turned back, and broke covenant, even as also their fathers: they became like a crooked bow.
Nihcae loe ampanawk baktiah oep om o ai, hnukbangah angnawn o; oepthok ai palaa baktiah lam amkhraeng o.
58 And they provoked him with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
Nihcae mah kasang ahmuennawk hoiah anih to palungphui o sak moe, sakcop ih krangnawk hoiah uthaih palung to tacawt o sak.
59 God heard and lightly regarded [them], and greatly despised Israel.
Sithaw mah thaih naah, palungphui moe, Israel caanawk to paroeai panuet,
60 And he rejected the tabernacle of Selom, his tent where he lived among men.
kaminawk salakah kaom, Shiloh ih kahni im doeh a caeh taak,
61 And he gave their strength into captivity, and their beauty into the enemy's hand.
a thacakhaih to tamna ah caehsak moe, a lensawkhaih to misa banah a paek.
62 And he gave his people to the sword; and disdained his inheritance.
Angmah ih kaminawk to sumsen hoi hum hanah a paek; a toep han ih qawk nuiah kating ai palungphui.
63 Fire devoured their young men; and their virgins mourned not.
Nihcae ih thendoengnawk to hmai mah kangh pae; nihcae ih tanglanawk doeh sava sah o ai.
64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows shall not be wept for.
Angmacae ih qaimanawk doeh sumsen hoiah duek o; lamhmainawk doeh qah o ai boeh.
65 So the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, [and] as a mighty man who has been heated with wine.
To naah Angraeng loe iih kangthawk baktih, misurtui pongah kahang thacak kami baktiah angthawk.
66 And he struck his enemies in the hinder parts: he brought on them a perpetual reproach.
Angmah ih misanawk to a tuk moe, dungzan khoek to azatsak.
67 And he rejected the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim;
Joseph ih kahni im to a maak pae, Ephraim acaeng doeh qoi ai,
68 but chose the tribe of Juda, the mount Sion which he loved.
toe Judah acaeng, angmah palung ih, Zion mae to anih mah qoih.
69 And he built his sanctuary as [the place] of unicorns; he founded it for ever on the earth.
Angmah ih hmuenciim to hmuen sang baktiah a sak moe, dungzan khoek to caksak ih long baktih a ohsak.
70 He chose David also his servant, and took him up from the flocks of sheep.
A tamna David to qoih, tuu imthung hoiah anih to a lak;
71 He took him from following the ewes great with young, to be the shepherd of Jacob his servant, and Israel his inheritance.
angmah ih kami Jakob acaeng hoi angmah ih qawk ah kaom Israel acaeng to khetzawn hanah, caa kaom tuu amnonawk toephaih thung hoiah ni anih to qoih.
72 So he tended them in the innocency of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
To pongah toenghaih palungthin hoiah nihcae to a khetzawn moe, palunghahaih ban hoiah nihcae to a hoih.
