Psalms 60
1 For the end, for them that shall yet be changed; for an inscription by David for instruction, when he [had] burned Mesopotamia of Syria, and Syria Sobal, and Joab [had] returned and struck [in] the valley of salt twelve thousand. O God, you have rejected and destroyed us; you have been angry, yet have pitied us.
Dem Vorsänger. Auf Schuschan Edut. Eine Denkschrift von David; zum Lehren. Als er gestritten hatte mit den Syrern von Mesopotamien und mit den Syrern von Zoba, und Joab zurückkehrte und die Edomiter im Salztal schlug, zwölftausend Mann. O Gott, der du uns verstoßen und in deinem Zorn zerrissen hast, stelle uns wieder her!
2 You have shaken the earth, and troubled it; heal its breaches, for it has been shaken.
Der du die Erde erschüttert und zerspalten hast, heile ihre Brüche; denn sie wankt.
3 You have shown your people hard things: you has made us drink the wine of astonishment.
Du hast dein Volk Schweres sehen lassen, du tränktest uns mit Taumelwein.
4 You have given a token to them that fear you, that they might flee from the bow. (Pause)
Du hast denen, die dich fürchten, ein Panier gegeben, daß sie sich erheben angesichts [deiner] Treue. (Pause)
5 That your beloved ones may be delivered; save with your right hand, and hear me.
Auf daß deine Geliebten errettet werden, laß siegen deine Rechte und erhöre uns!
6 God has spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, and divide Sicima, and measure out the valley of tents.
Gott hat gesprochen in seinem Heiligtum: «Ich will frohlocken! Ich will Sichem teilen und das Tal Suchot vermessen;
7 Galaad is mine, and Manasse is mine; and Ephraim is the strength of my head;
Gilead ist mein, und Manasse ist mein, Ephraim ist meines Hauptes Wehr, Juda mein Herrscherstab;
8 Judas is my king; Moab is the caldron of my hope; over Idumea will I stretch out my shoe; the Philistines have been subjected to me.
Moab ist mein Waschbecken, über Edom werfe ich meinen Schuh, jauchze mir zu, Philisterland!»
9 Who will lead me into the fortified city? who will guide me as far a Idumea?
Wer führt mich in eine feste Stadt, wer geleitet mich nach Edom?
10 Will not you, O God, who have cast us off? and will not you, O God, go forth with our forces?
Wirst du es nicht tun, o Gott, der du uns verstoßen hast? Oder solltest du, o Gott, nicht ausziehen mit unserm Heer?
11 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the deliverance of man.
Schaffe uns Hilfe in der Not, denn eitel ist Menschenhilfe!
12 In God will we do valiantly; and he shall bring to nothing them that harass us.
Mit Gott wollen wir Taten tun; er wird unsre Feinde untertreten.
