Psalms 40
1 For the end, a Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the Lord; and he attended to me, and listened to my supplication.
Al maestro del coro. Di Davide. Salmo. Ho sperato: ho sperato nel Signore ed egli su di me si è chinato, ha dato ascolto al mio grido.
2 And he brought me up out of a pit of misery, and from miry clay: and he set my feet on a rock, and ordered my goings aright.
Mi ha tratto dalla fossa della morte, dal fango della palude; i miei piedi ha stabilito sulla roccia, ha reso sicuri i miei passi.
3 And he put a new song into my mouth, [even] a hymn to our God: many shall see [it], and fear, and shall hope in the Lord.
Mi ha messo sulla bocca un canto nuovo, lode al nostro Dio. Molti vedranno e avranno timore e confideranno nel Signore.
4 Blessed [is] the man whose hope is in the name of the Lord, and [who] has not regarded vanities and false frenzies.
Beato l'uomo che spera nel Signore e non si mette dalla parte dei superbi, né si volge a chi segue la menzogna.
5 O Lord my God, you have multiplied your wonderful works, and in your thoughts there is none who shall be likened to you: I declared and spoke [of them]: they exceeded number.
Quanti prodigi tu hai fatto, Signore Dio mio, quali disegni in nostro favore: nessuno a te si può paragonare. Se li voglio annunziare e proclamare sono troppi per essere contati.
6 Sacrifice and offering you would not; but a body have you prepared me: whole burnt offering and [sacrifice] for sin you did not require.
Sacrificio e offerta non gradisci, gli orecchi mi hai aperto. Non hai chiesto olocausto e vittima per la colpa.
7 Then I said, Behold, I come: in the volume of the book it is written concerning me,
Allora ho detto: «Ecco, io vengo. Sul rotolo del libro di me è scritto,
8 I desired to do your will, O my God, and your law in the midst of mine heart.
che io faccia il tuo volere. Mio Dio, questo io desidero, la tua legge è nel profondo del mio cuore».
9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation; behold! I will not refrain my lips; O Lord, you know my righteousness.
Ho annunziato la tua giustizia nella grande assemblea; vedi, non tengo chiuse le labbra, Signore, tu lo sai.
10 I have not hid your truth within my heart, and I have declared your salvation; I have not hid your mercy and your truth from the great congregation.
Non ho nascosto la tua giustizia in fondo al cuore, la tua fedeltà e la tua salvezza ho proclamato. Non ho nascosto la tua grazia e la tua fedeltà alla grande assemblea.
11 But you, Lord, remove not your compassion far from me; your mercy and your truth have helped me continually.
Non rifiutarmi, Signore, la tua misericordia, la tua fedeltà e la tua grazia mi proteggano sempre,
12 For innumerable evils have encompassed me; my transgressions have taken hold of me, and I could not see; they are multiplied more than the hairs of my head; and my heart has failed me.
poiché mi circondano mali senza numero, le mie colpe mi opprimono e non posso più vedere. Sono più dei capelli del mio capo, il mio cuore viene meno.
13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me; O Lord, draw near to help me.
Degnati, Signore, di liberarmi; accorri, Signore, in mio aiuto.
14 Let those that seek my soul, to destroy it, be ashamed and confounded together; let those that wish me evil be turned backward and put to shame.
Vergogna e confusione per quanti cercano di togliermi la vita. Retrocedano coperti d'infamia quelli che godono della mia sventura.
15 Let those that say to me, Aha, aha, quickly receive shame for their reward.
Siano presi da tremore e da vergogna quelli che mi scherniscono.
16 Let all those that seek you, O Lord, exult and rejoice in you; and let them that love your salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.
Esultino e gioiscano in te quanti ti cercano, dicano sempre: «Il Signore è grande» quelli che bramano la tua salvezza.
17 But I am poor and needy; the Lord will take care of me; you are my helper, and my defender, O my God, delay not.
Io sono povero e infelice; di me ha cura il Signore. Tu, mio aiuto e mia liberazione, mio Dio, non tardare.
