Psalms 37
1 [A Psalm] of David. Fret not yourself because of evil-doers, neither be envious of them that do iniquity.
Di Davide. Non ti crucciare a cagion de’ malvagi; non portare invidia a quelli che operano perversamente;
2 For they shall soon be withered as the grass, and shall soon fall away as the green herbs.
perché saran di subito falciati come il fieno, e appassiranno come l’erba verde.
3 Hope in the Lord, and do good; and dwell on the land, and you shall be fed with the wealth of it.
Confidati nell’Eterno e fa’ il bene; abita il paese e coltiva la fedeltà.
4 Delight [yourself] in the Lord; and he shall grant you the requests of your heart.
Prendi il tuo diletto nell’Eterno, ed egli ti darà quel che il tuo cuore domanda.
5 Disclose your way to the Lord, and hope in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass.
Rimetti la tua sorte nell’Eterno; confidati in lui, ed egli opererà
6 And he shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noon-day.
Egli farà risplendere la tua giustizia come la luce, e il tuo diritto come il mezzodì.
7 Submit yourself to the Lord, and supplicate him: fret not yourself because of him that prospers in his way, at the man that does unlawful deeds.
Sta’ in silenzio dinanzi all’Eterno, e aspettalo; non ti crucciare per colui che prospera nella sua via, per l’uomo che riesce ne’ suoi malvagi disegni.
8 ease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not yourself so as to do evil.
Cessa dall’ira e lascia lo sdegno; non crucciarti; ciò non conduce che al mal fare.
9 For evil-doers shall be destroyed: but they that wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the land.
Poiché i malvagi saranno sterminati; ma quelli che sperano nell’Eterno possederanno la terra.
10 And yet a little while, and the sinner shall not be, and you shall seek for his place, and shall not find [it].
Ancora un poco e l’empio non sarà più; tu osserverai il suo luogo, ed egli non vi sarà più.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight [themselves] in the abundance of peace.
Ma i mansueti erederanno la terra e godranno abbondanza di pace.
12 The sinner will watch for the righteous, and gnash his teeth upon him.
L’empio macchina contro il giusto e digrigna i denti contro lui.
13 But the Lord shall laugh at him: for he foresees that his day will come.
Il Signore si ride di lui, perché vede che il suo giorno viene.
14 Sinners have drawn their swords, they have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy one, [and] to kill the upright in heart.
Gli empi han tratto la spada e teso il loro arco per abbattere il misero e il bisognoso, per sgozzare quelli che vanno per la via diritta.
15 Let their sword enter into their [own] heart, and their bows be broken.
La loro spada entrerà loro nel cuore, e gli archi loro saranno rotti.
16 A little is better to the righteous than abundant wealth of sinners.
Meglio vale il poco del giusto che l’abbondanza di molti empi.
17 For the arms of sinners shall be broken; but the Lord supports the righteous.
Perché le braccia degli empi saranno rotte; ma l’Eterno sostiene i giusti.
18 The Lord knows the ways of the perfect; and their inheritance shall be for ever.
L’Eterno conosce i giorni degli uomini integri; e la loro eredità durerà in perpetuo.
19 They shall not be ashamed in an evil time; and in days of famine they shall be satisfied.
Essi non saran confusi nel tempo dell’avversità, e saranno saziati nel tempo dalla fame.
20 For the sinners shall perish; and the enemies of the Lord at the moment of their being honored and exalted have utterly vanished like smoke.
Ma gli empi periranno; e i nemici dell’Eterno, come grasso d’agnelli, saran consumati e andranno in fumo.
21 The sinner borrows, and will not pay again: but the righteous has compassion, and gives.
L’empio prende a prestito e non rende; ma il giusto è pietoso e dona.
22 For they that bless him shall inherit the earth; and they that curse him shall be utterly destroyed.
Poiché quelli che Dio benedice erederanno la terra, ma quelli ch’ei maledice saranno sterminati.
23 The steps of a man are rightly ordered by the Lord: and he will take pleasure in his way.
I passi dell’uomo dabbene son diretti dall’Eterno ed egli gradisce le vie di lui.
24 When he falls, he shall not be ruined: for the Lord supports his hand.
Se cade, non è però atterrato, perché l’Eterno lo sostiene per la mano.
25 I was [once] young, indeed I am now old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed seeking bread.
Io sono stato giovane e son anche divenuto vecchio, ma non ho visto il giusto abbandonato, né la sua progenie accattare il pane.
26 He is merciful, and lends continually; and his seed shall be blessed.
Egli tutti i giorni è pietoso e presta, e la sua progenie è in benedizione.
27 Turn aside from evil, and do good; and dwell for ever.
Ritraiti dal male e fa’ il bene, e dimorerai nel paese in perpetuo.
28 For the Lord loves judgment, and will not forsake his saints; they shall be preserved for ever: the blameless shall be avenged, but the seed of the ungodly shall be utterly destroyed.
Poiché l’Eterno ama la giustizia e non abbandona i suoi santi; essi son conservati in perpetuo; ma la progenie degli empi sarà sterminata.
29 But the righteous shall inherit the earth, and dwell upon it for ever.
I giusti erederanno la terra e l’abiteranno in perpetuo.
30 The mouth of the righteous will meditate wisdom, and his tongue will speak of judgment.
La bocca del giusto proferisce sapienza e la sua lingua pronunzia giustizia.
31 The law of his God is in his heart; and his steps shall not slide.
La legge del suo Dio è nel suo cuore; i suoi passi non vacilleranno.
32 The sinner watches the righteous, and seeks to kill him.
L’empio spia il giusto e cerca di farlo morire.
33 But the Lord will not leave him in his hands, nor by any means condemn him when he is judged.
L’Eterno non l’abbandonerà nelle sue mani, e non lo condannerà quando verrà in giudicio.
34 Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt you to inherit the land: when the wicked are destroyed, you shall see [it].
Aspetta l’Eterno e osserva la sua via; egli t’innalzerà perché tu eredi la terra; e quando gli empi saranno sterminati, tu lo vedrai.
35 I saw the ungodly very highly exalting himself, and lifting himself up like the cedars of Libanus.
Io ho veduto l’empio potente, e distendersi come albero verde sul suolo natìo;
36 Yet I passed by, and behold! he was not: and I sought him, but his place was not found.
ma è passato via, ed ecco, non è più; io l’ho cercato, ma non s’è più trovato.
37 Maintain innocence, and behold uprightness: for there is a remnant to the peaceful man.
Osserva l’uomo integro e considera l’uomo retto; perché v’è una posterità per l’uomo di pace.
38 But the transgressors shall be utterly destroyed together: the remnants of the ungodly shall be utterly destroyed.
Mentre i trasgressori saranno tutti quanti distrutti; la posterità degli empi sarà sterminata.
39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord; and he is their defender in the time of affliction.
Ma la salvezza dei giusti procede dall’Eterno; egli è la loro fortezza nel tempo della distretta.
40 And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: and he shall rescue them from sinners, and save them, because they have hoped in him.
L’Eterno li aiuta e li libera: li libera dagli empi e li salva, perché si sono rifugiati in lui.
