Psalms 33
1 [A Psalm] of David. Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous; praise becomes the upright.
Juble, I rettferdige, i Herren! For de opriktige sømmer sig lovsang.
2 Praise the Lord on the harp; platy to him on a lute of ten strings.
Pris Herren med citar, lovsyng ham til tistrenget harpe!
3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.
Syng en ny sang for ham, spill liflig med frydesang!
4 For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are faithful.
For Herrens ord er sant, og all hans gjerning er trofast.
5 He loves mercy and judgment; the earth is full the mercy of the Lord.
Han elsker rettferdighet og rett; jorden er full av Herrens miskunnhet.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the host of them by the breath of his [mouth].
Himlene er skapt ved Herrens ord, og all deres hær ved hans munns ånde.
7 Who gathers the waters of the sea as [in] a bottle; who lays up the deeps in treasuries.
Han samler havets vann som en dynge, han legger de dype vann i forrådshus.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; and let all that dwell in the world be moved because of him.
All jorden frykte for Herren, for ham beve alle de som bor på jorderike!
9 For he spoke, and they were made; he commanded, and they were created.
For han talte, og det skjedde; han bød, og det stod der.
10 The Lord frustrates the counsels of the nations; he brings to nothing also the reasonings of the peoples, and brings to nothing the counsels of princes.
Herren omstøter hedningenes råd, han gjør folkenes tanker til intet.
11 But the counsel of the Lord endures for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
Herrens råd står fast evindelig, hans hjertes tanker fra slekt til slekt.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.
Salig er det folk hvis Gud Herren er, det folk han har utvalgt til sin arv.
13 The Lord looks out of heaven; he beholds all the sons of men.
Fra himmelen skuer Herren ned han ser alle menneskenes barn.
14 He looks from his prepared habitation on all the dwellers on the earth;
Fra det sted hvor han bor, ser han ned til alle dem som bor på jorden,
15 who fashioned their hearts alone; who understands all their works.
han som har skapt deres hjerter alle sammen, han som gir akt på alle deres gjerninger.
16 A king is not saved by reason of a great host; and a giant shall not be delivered by the greatness of his strength.
En konge frelses ikke ved sin store makt, en helt reddes ikke ved sin store kraft.
17 A horse is vain for safety; neither shall he be delivered by the greatness of his power.
Hesten er ikke å stole på til frelse, og med sin store styrke redder den ikke.
18 Behold, the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him, those that hope in his mercy;
Se, Herrens øie ser til dem som frykter ham, som bier på hans miskunnhet,
19 to deliver their souls from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
for å utfri deres sjel fra døden og holde dem i live i hungersnød.
20 Our soul waits on the Lord; for he is our helper and defender.
Vår sjel bier på Herren; han er vår hjelp og vårt skjold.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, and we have hoped in his holy name.
For i ham fryder vårt hjerte sig, fordi vi setter vår lit til hans hellige navn.
22 Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in you.
Din miskunnhet, Herre, være over oss, således som vi håper på dig!
